  • addObjectsFromArray

    - by derek.lo
I have a question about memory management when using the addObjectsFromArray method. Basically, I have 2 arrays defined in the appDelegate. I need these 2 arrays for the duration of my application's runtime. I therefore release them in my appDelegate's dealloc method. When I go to use these two arrays in a class, I want one array to store the values from the other, so that the other can have it's contents removed, but still stick around for use. Something like this: [appDelegate.arrayTwo addObjectsFromArray:appDelegate.arrayOne]; [appDelegate.arrayOne removeAllObjects]; I'm getting the compiler error: EXC_BAD_ACCESS because of a pointer issue? retaining issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

  • iphone NSMutableArray loses objects at end of method

    - by Brodie4598
    Hello - in my app, an NSMutableArray is populated with an object in viewDidLoad (eventually there will be many objects but I'm just doing one til I get it working right). I also start a timer that starts a method that needs to access the NSMutableArray every few seconds. The NSMutableArray works fine in viewDidLoad, but as soon as that method is finished, it loses the object. myApp.h @interface MyApp : UIViewController { NSMutableArray *myMutableArray; NSTimer *timer; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *myMutableArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSTimer *timer; @end myApp.m #import "MyApp.h" @implementation MyApp @synthesize myMutableArray; - (void) viewDidLoad { cycleTimer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:4.0 target:self selector:@selector(newCycle) userInfo: nil repeats:YES]; MyObject *myCustomUIViewObject = [[MyObject alloc]init]; [myMutableArray addObject:myCustomUIViewObject]; [myCustomUIViewObject release]; NSLog(@"%i",[myMutableArray count]); /////outputs "1" } -(void) newCycle { NSLog(@"%i",[myMutableArray count]); /////outputs "0" ?? why is this?? }

  • UITabBarController "More" tab issues

    - by codemonkey
I've got a UITabBarController with 7 tabs. Each of the 7 tabs has its own UINavigationController and customizes its toolbar. When a view is loaded via the UITabBarController's "More" menu its custom toolbar isn't appearing. If i switch the order of the views around so that the same view is now accessible from the UITabBar without going through the "More" menu then the custom toolbar shows up like it's supposed to. Is there a way to customize a NavigationController's toolbar when that NavigationController is loaded via the "More" menu of a TabBarController? I'm actually also interested in replacing the "More" menu navigation controller with my own custom one on views loaded via the "More" menu... not sure whether that's even possible. Any feedback will be appreciated.

  • UIButton custom font vertical alignment

    - by Willshaw Media
I've got a UIButton which uses a custom font, which is set when my view loads: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.searchButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName: @"FONTNAME" size: 15.0 ]; } The problem I've got is that the font is appearing to float up of the center line. If I comment out this line, the default font appears vertically centered fine. But changing to the custom font breaks the vertical alignment. I'm getting the same issue on a Table Cell with a custom font too. Do I need to tell the view somewhere that the custom font is not as tall as other fonts? EDIT: I've just realized that the font I'm using is a Windows TrueType Font. I can use it fine in TextEdit on the Mac, only a problem with the alignment in my App

  • iPhone: Crash When Deleting UITableView Rows

    - by Ajeet Kumar Yadav
Hi, I am new in iPhone development. I am developing an application that fetches a value from a database and displays it in a table view. I want to delete table rows one by one but the rows do not delete and the application crashes. Here is my row deletion code: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tv commitEditingStyle:(UITableViewCellEditingStyle)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { if(editingStyle == UITableViewCellEditingStyleDelete) { SanjeevKapoorAppDelegate *appDelegate =(SanjeevKapoorAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; list *animal =[appDelegate.list1 objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; [appDelegate deleteCoffee]; [self.tableView reloadData]; //Delete the object from the table. [self.tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; } I also delete all rows with this action: -(IBAction)deletebtn:(id)sender{ SanjeevKapoorAppDelegate *appDelegate =(SanjeevKapoorAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate deleteCoffee]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } How do I properly implement delete in an UITableView?

  • How do I send the mutable string to the NSTextField properly?

    - by Merle
So I have all this code that I have debugged and it seems to be fine. I made a mutable string and for some reason I can not get it to be displayed on my label. the debugger says "2010-04-22 22:50:26.126 Fibonacci[24836:10b] * -[NSTextField setString:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x130150" What is wrong with this? When I just send the string to NSLog, it comes out fine. here's all my code, any help would be appreciated. "elementNum" is a comboBox and "display" is a Label. Thanks #import "Controller.h" @implementation Controller - (IBAction)computeNumber:(id)sender { int x = 1; int y = 1; NSMutableString *numbers = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; [numbers setString:@"1, 1,"]; int num = [[elementNum objectValueOfSelectedItem]intValue]; int count = 1; while (count<=num) { int z = y; y+=x; x=z; [numbers appendString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@" %d,", y]]; count++; } [display setString:numbers]; NSLog(numbers); } @end `

  • Cocoa-Touch framework for speaking to a TCP socket?

    - by Coocoo4Cocoa
I have a daemon running on a server that's latched onto a TCP/IP port. I'm looking to see if there's currently any support iPhone/Cocoa-touch frameworks that gives a nice OO wrapper for speaking to the daemon over an IP socket. I need to be able to interactively query the daemon with commands and retrieve back information. If there isn't any OO wrappers for such a task, what's the next best bet?

  • Show UIView for app presentation only once in iOS

    - by André Muniz
I need to show an UIScrollView with some pages for present the app to user when launched for the first time. My slides are working correctly, lefting the logic to present it. Is a good practice to set the UIScrollViewController as root controller and set a NSUserDefault variable to control the presentation and redirect to main controller or set the main ViewController as root normally and call the presentation view if needed is a better approach? If there is a better way to do this can someone help? Thanks.

  • How to properly set relationships in Core Data when using setValue and data already exists

    - by ern
Let's say I have two objects: Articles and Categories. For the sake of this example all relevant categories have already been added to the data store. When looping through data that holds edits for articles, there is category relationship information that needs to be saved. I was planning on using the -setValue method in the Article class in order to set the relationships like so: - (void)setValue:(id)value forUndefinedKey:(NSString *)key { if([key isEqualToString:@"categories"]){ NSLog(@"trying to set categories..."); } } The problem is that value isn't a Category, it is just a string (or array of strings) holding the title of a category. I could certainly do a lookup within this method for each category and assign it, but that seems inefficient when processing a whole bunch of articles at once. Another option is to populate an array of all possible categories and just filter, but my question is where to store that array? Should it be a class method on Article? Is there a way to pass in additional data to the -setValue method? Is there another, better option for setting the relationship I'm not thinking of? Thanks for your help.

  • Long polling with NSURLConnection

    - by pix0r
I'm working on an iPhone application which will use long-polling to send event notifications from the server to the client over HTTP. After opening a connection on the server I'm sending small bits of JSON that represent events, as they occur. I am finding that -[NSURLConnectionDelegate connection:didReceiveData] is not being called until after I close the connection, regardless of the cache settings I use when creating the NSURLRequest. I've verified that the server end is working as expected - the first JSON event will be sent immediately, and subsequent events will be sent over the wire as they occur. Is there a way to use NSURLConnection to receive these events as they occur, or will I need to instead drop down to the CFSocket API? I'm starting to work on integrating CocoaAsyncSocket, but would prefer to continue using NSURLConnection if possible as it fits much better with the rest of my REST/JSON-based web service structure.

  • Controlling QR Code Scanning Actions

    - by Elijah
I am looking to create a QR code that does the following: When scanned from inside an application, it dislpays a custom alert, (Ex. "You won $5") When scanned with a different QR code reader (non app) it goes to a mobile web page that directs the user to download the application. My main question is: Can you control what happens when a QR code is scanned by a reader that is not your own? (A 'default' action, if you will)

I am trying to display a modal view controller as a UIPresentationFormSheet. The view appears, but I can't seem to resize it. My XIB has the proper height & width, but it seems to get overridden when I call it like this: composeTweetController = [[ComposeTweet alloc] initWithNibName:@"ComposeTweet" bundle:nil]; composeTweetController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; [self presentModalViewController:composeTweetController animated:TRUE]; Any thoughts? I am using the iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 4

  • Writing multiple NSData to File

    - by user326943
I need a hint on how to write multiple NSData chunks to single file. Downloading a file using NSURLConnection in chunks. Each chunk is downloaded in a separate NSOperation thread. As the chunks finish downloading they need to be written to a file so combined result is the file downloaded. What would be the best way to manage the NSData that is returned and writing it to a single file?
