  • What's the best practice for taking MySQL dump, encrypting it and then pushing to s3?

    This current project requires that the DB be dumped, encrypted and pushed to s3. I'm wondering what might be some "best practices" for such a task. As of now I'm using a pretty straight ahead method but would like to have some better ideas where security is concerned. Here is the start of my script: mysqldump -u root --password="lepass" --all-databases --single-transaction > db.backup.sql tar -c db.backup.sql | openssl des3 -salt --passphrase foopass > db.backup.tarfile s3put backup/db.backup.tarfile db.backup.tarfile # Let's pull it down again and untar it for kicks s3get surgeryflow-backup/db/db.backup.tarfile db.backup.tarfile cat db.backup.tarfile | openssl des3 -d -salt --passphrase foopass |tar -xvj Obviously the problem is that this script everything an attacker would need to raise hell. Any thoughts, critiques and suggestions for this task will be appreciated.

    My current LINQ query and example XML are below. What I'd like to do is select the primary email address from the email-addresses element into the User.Email property. The type element under the email-address element is set to primary when this is true. There may be more than one element under the email-addresses but only one will be marked primary. What is the simplest approach to take here?   • Select videos using UIImagePickerController in 2G/3G

    Hi, I am facing a problem where-in I cannot select videos from the photo album in iPhone 2G/3G device. The default photos application does show videos and is capable of playing them, which in turn means that UIImagePickerController should clearly be capable of showing videos in photo album and selecting them. I havent tested for 3GS, but I am sure that this problem does not exist in it with reference to other threads. I have built the app for both 3.0 (base SDK) and 3.1 but with the same results. This issue is already discussed in the thread: http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/36197-uiimagepickercontroller-does-not-show-movies-albums.html But it does not seem to host a solution.     I'm trying to set the default value for a Content Taxonomy field in a hook_form_alter, but can't pin down the necessary format.     Hello, I am using an autocomplete widget, and would like a dialog to show when an item is selected. The dialog does show up, but I want a field in the dialog to receive focus when it opens.     Hi, In my model I have a manytomany field mentors = models.ManyToManyField(MentorArea, verbose_name='Areas', blank=True) In my form I want to render this as: drop down box with list of all MentorArea objects which has not been associated with the object. Next to that an add button which will call a javascript function which will add it to the object. Then under that a ul list which has each selected MentorArea object with a x next to it which again calls a javascript function which will remove the MentorArea from the object. I know that to change how an field element is rendered you create a custom widget and override the render function and I have done that to create the add button. class AreaWidget(widgets.Select): def render(self, name, value, attrs=None, choices=()): jquery = u''' <input class="button def" type="button" value="Add" id="Add Area" />''' output = super(AreaWidget, self).render(name, value, attrs, choices) return output + mark_safe(jquery) However I don't know how to list the currently selected ones underneath as a list. Can anyone help me? Also what is the best way to filter down the list so that it only shows MentorArea objects which have not been added? I currently have the field as mentors = forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField(queryset=MentorArea.objects.all(), widget = AreaWidget, required=False) but this shows all mentors no matter if they have been added or not.     Hi, I am new to jQuery and would like to know how is it possible for me to hide an option in a selection box based on the selection of another selection box. I have 5 selection boxes, this is for the administrator to select the users of a limited criteria. The <options> are create dynamically from the results of a database query and php, and they all have the same <options>. e.g. this is an example of the selection boxes with their option values. userbox1 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox2 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox3 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox4 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox5 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan So if the administrator selects Cathy in userbox1, Cathy will be automatically be hidden from the selection on the rest of the userbox. And if the administrator changes his/her mind and reselect another user call Ethan. The userboxes should be able to show the availability of Cathy in the selection. I am not sure is hide/show the correct status to be used in such cases. May I know how is it possible to write the function as stated above?   • has_many :through formtastic multi-select field

    I'm trying to set up a many to many relationship using the has_many :through method and then use a multi-select field to setup the relationships. I'm following this tutorial: http://asciicasts.com/episodes/185-formtastic-part-2 However for some reason the form displays a strange hex number and it changes each page refresh, I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong.   • Using NHibernate to select entities based on activity of children entities

    I'm having a case of the Mondays... I need to select blog posts based on recent activity in the post's comments collection (a Post has a List<Comment> property and likewise, a Comment has a Post property, establishing the relationship. I don't want to show the same post twice, and I only need a subset of the entities, not all of the posts. First thought was to grab all posts that have comments, then order those based on the most recent comment. For this to work, I'm pretty sure I'd have to limit the comments for each Post to the first/newest Comment. Last I'd simply take the top 5 (or whatever max results number I want to pass into the method). Second thought would be to grab all of the comments, ordered by CreatedOn, and filter so there's only one Comment per Post. Then return those top (whatever) posts. This seems like the same as the first option, just going through the back door. I've got an ugly, two query option I've got working with some LINQ on the side for filtering, but I know there's a more elegant way to do it in using the NHibernate API. Hoping to see some good ideas here.

TrackHistory has each track added to it as a row whenever it is played ie. a track will appear in there many times. Ratings value will either be 1 or -1. What I'm trying to do is select the Track with the highest rating, that is more than 2 hours old, and if there is a duplicate rating for a track (ie a track receives 6 +1 ratings and 1 - rating, giving that track a total rating of 5, another track also has a total rating of 5), the track that was last played the longest ago should be returned. (If all tracks have been played within the last 2 hours, no rows should be returned) I'm getting somewhere doing each part individually using the link above, SUM(Value) and GROUP BY Track_Id, but I'm having trouble putting it all together. Hopefully someone with a bit more (MS)SQL knowledge will be able to help me. Many thanks!

    We have a website that contains a database of places. For each place our users are able to take one of the follow actions which we record: VIEW - View it's profile RATING - Rate it on a scale of 1-5 stars REVIEW - Review it COMPLETED - Mark that they've been there WISH LIST - Mark that they want to go there FAVORITE - Mark that it's one of their favorites In our database table of places each place contains a count of the number of times each action above was taken as well as the average rating given by users. views ratings avg_rating completed wishlist favorite What we want to be able to do is generate lists of the top places using the above information. Ideally, we would want to be able to generate this list using a relatively simple SQL query without needing to do any legwork to calculate additional fields or stack rank places against one another. That being said, since we only have about 50,000 places we could run a nightly cron job to calculate some fields such as rankings on different categories if it would make a meaningful difference in the overall results of our top places. I'd appreciate if you could make some suggestions on how we should think about bubbling the best places to the top, which criteria we should weight more heavily, and given that information - suggest what the MySQL query would need to look like in order to select the top 10 places. One thing to note is that at this time we are less concerned with the recency of a place being popular - meaning that looking at the aggregate information is fine and that more recent data doesn't need to be weighted more heavily. Now I loop through all the header nodes and I want to get the table rows which are adjacent to the respective header rows. foreach (HtmlNode node in headerNodes) { HtmlNodeCollection itemNodes = ??? } My question is that what I should write here so that for header row with text "Random Value 1" I get the item rows 1,2 and 3. Similarly for header row with text "Random Value 2" I get the item row 4,5 and 6 and so on.

    I'm still learning SQL and my brain is having a hard time with this one. Say I have 3 tables: teams players and teams_players as my link table All I want to do is run a query to get each team and the players on them. I tried this: SELECT * FROM teams INNER JOIN teams_players ON teams.id = teams_players.team_id INNER JOIN players ON teams_players.player_id = players.id But it returned a separate row for each player on each team. Is JOIN the right way to do it or should I be doing something else? ----------------------------------------- Edit Ok, so from what I'm hearing, this isn't necessarily a bad way to do it. I'll just have to group the data by team while I'm doing my loop. I have not yet tried the modified SQL statements provided, but I will today and get back to you. To answer the question about structure - I guess I wasn't thinking about the returned row structure which is part of what lead to my confusion. In this particular case, each team is limited to 4 players (or less) so I guess the structure that would be helpful to me is something like the following: teams.id, teams.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, 1 Team ABC 1 Jim 2 Bob 3 Ned 4 Roy 2 Team XYZ 2 Bob 3 Ned 5 Ralph 6 Tom

  • LinqToSql Select to a class then do more queries

    I have a LINQ query running with multiple joins and I want to pass it around as an IQueryable<T> and apply additional filters in other methods. The problem is that I can't work out how to pass around a var data type and keep it strongly typed, and if I try to put it in my own class (EG: .Select((a,b) => new MyClass(a,b))) I get errors when I try to add later Where clauses because my class has no translations into SQL. Is there any way I can do one of the following: Make my class map to SQL? Make the var data-type implement an interface (So I can pass it round as though it's that)? Something I haven't though of that'll solve my issue? Example: public void Main() { using (DBDataContext context = new DBDataContext()) { var result = context.TableAs.Join( context.TableBs, a => a.BID, b => b.ID, (a,b) => new {A = a, B = b} ); result = addNeedValue(result, 4); } } private ???? addNeedValue(???? result, int value) { return result.Where(r => r.A.Value == value); } PS: I know in my example I can flatten out the function easily, but in the real thing it'd be an absolute mess if I tried.
