  • Is it possible to return a list of all ranges from all worksheets in an Excel 2002 workbook?

    Hello all. I want to extract "special" data from an Excel 2002 (client requirement, cannot change) workbook and worksheets contained therein. I have classified ranges in this "special" data category. I would like to acquire a list of all ranges in, ideally, all worksheets in a workbook. The attributes I'm interested in are the range name, and the range address. I have been googling for a while now, and have not found anything relevant. I was assuming the Excel 2002 API would expose something like this: ApplicationClass app = new ApplicationClass(); Workbook workbook = app.Workbooks.Open(@"c:\file.xls", ...); Worksheet worksheet = workbook.Worksheets["sheet1"] as Worksheet; Range[] ranges = worksheet.GetAllRanges(); or something similar. However, I am sadly mistaken. Is this possible with Excel 2002?

  • How to copy a formatted cell in Excel to a table cell in Word using .NET?

    I'm attempting to copy cells, one at a time, from an Excel 2003 (or 2007) spreadsheet to a Word 2003 (or 2007) table. I'd like the code to be version-agnostic, and so am using late binding. The formatting of the contents of the Excel cell, such as color, underline, strike-through, needs to be preserved. My approach is to use a Word doc as a template. It has a table at the top which I can copy to the end of the doc, add rows as needed, and fill in the word table cells with the data from the excel spreadsheet. Unfortunately, all the formatting disappears. All I get is the text itself.

    I have an application that I want to link to excel. I have no preference which control is used as long as I can copy the data or control, and paste link into excel. When the data changes in my application, I want the cell to change in excel. I have a client that claims it is possible and he has seen it, but has no proof and may be confused. I have searched the internet and have come up with a number of half-solutions, and people who want the opposite of what I want. Does anyone know the full solution?

    Hi! I'm using VSTO to create an Excel Add-on. This add-on retrieves and display alot of data from a sql-server. This works great, but later on I plan to access some of the data inside excel and modify it in some ways. My problem is that I need a way of classify cells that I want to modify. Is there any way to add meta-data to a cell to know if it is a cell that should be modified? E.g. add a attribute to the cell, e.g. "editable_cell", and do something like Excel.FindCellsWithAttribute("editable_cell") to find the sought after cells? Thanks! /Gustav

  • .NET Excel Interop - Why aren't my Footers displaying in my printed output file?

    I'm working with C# and Office 2007's Excel Interop API. I'm opening an Excel file, applying some formatting and then sending it to the printer. I've got a problem, though. The Footer text doesn't appear to be printing. If I check the PageSetup.RightFooter property, I can see the expected Page Number in the Footer. That Page Number doesn't appear anywhere on the printed output sheet. When I print using Excel, though, they appear. Does anyone know why my Footer text is not appearing? Here's my code.   • Adding a calculated field to a Query at run time.

    I'm getting data using a query in Delphi, and would like to add a calculated field to the query before it runs. The calculated field is using values in code as well as the query so I can't just calculate it in SQL. I know I can attach an OnCalcFields Event to actually make the calculation, but the problem is after adding the calculated field there are no other fields in the query... I did some digging and found that all of the field defs are created but the actual fields are only created if DefaultFields then CreateFields Default Fields is specified procedure TDataSet.DoInternalOpen; begin FDefaultFields := FieldCount = 0; ... end; Which would indicate that if you add fields you only get the fields you added. I would like all the fields in the query AS WELL AS the ones I Add. Is this possible or do I have to add all the fields I'm using as well?

    I have several lists in Matlab that I want to write to the same excel file. I have one list xordered and another list aspl. I do not know the length of the lists till after I run the Matlab program. I used data = xlswrite('edgar.xls',fliplr(sortedx'),'A2:A3000') for the first list but when I tried to write another list to the same file like this I ended up with two different excel files named edgar.xls asp_data = xlswrite('edagr.xls', fliplr(aspl'), 'B2:B3000') Is there a way I can write both of these lists into the same excel file? xordered in the A column and aspl in the B column?

    I have some data of an excel file below. At first, I figured that reading from the file could be done using the Excel Library then using an OLEDB connection. I managed to get the DocumentNo column data with the OLEDB approach. However, when the excel file is closed, I am unable to do the operation because it gives an error that "External table is not in the expected format."   • Can you detect if and excel find and replace is active during worksheet_change()?

    Hi I've just crashed excel using amazon spreadsheet to update feed. When doing find and replace [replace all] with 2 cells selected after the first replacement the worksheet_change() function finished with the whole spreadsheet selected. This meant that the replacements took place outside of the original area. Unfortunatly the replcement text included the find text and each replacement re-selected the entire area excel ran until it ran out of space then crashed. Pressing control-break brings up the vba dialog STOP/CONTINUE/DEBUG. DEBUG is greyed out as amazon had protected the sheet. STOP would stop one run but would then continue to crash. CONTINUE would switch back to the current change and continue to crash. Is there any way to detect if a find&replace operation is in action whilst executing excel vba? Regards John

    I know of several approaches using a macro (VBA) to show/hide columns and rows in Excel, but I cannot figure out or find a way to do this using either a formula or conditional formatting. Of particular interest is Excel 2007 - but I'd be curious to know if someone has managed to do it in any version of Excel. For those who want background, I have a spread of data with dates across the top and labels down the first column. I would like to specify a date window (on another sheet) as two cells with drop down dates (months) which would then show/hide the appropriate columns on the data sheet.

    When using Jira web service methods that operate on work logs you may get the following error when running your .NET application: Object of type System.Xml.XmlNode[] cannot be stored in an array of this type. In this posting I will show you solution to this problem. I don’t want to go to deep in details about this problem. I think it’s enough for this posting to mention that this problem is related to one small conflict between .NET web service support and Axis. Of course, Jira team is trying to solve it but until this problem is solved you can use solution provided here. There is good solution to this problem given by Jira forum user Kostadin. You can find it from Jira forum thread RemoteWorkLog serialization from Soap Service in C#. Solution is simple – you have to use SOAP extension class to replace new class names with old ones that .NET found from WSDL.     I tried installing a trial version of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 on Windows Vista on my laptop but I couldn't succeed. Then I tried installing SAP Web Application Server 6.20. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong?   • SQL SERVER – What is SSAS Tabular Data model and Why to use it – Part 2

    In my last article, I talked about the basics of tabular data model and why use it. Then I demonstrated step by step creation of a basic tabular model project. In this part I’m going to throw some light on how to create measures and analyses in excel. If you look at the tabular project closely, you will notice that we have not defined any measure yet. So, in the first step we will define the measure first.  Open the solution and select the column you want to define as a measure. Then, click on the summation icon on the toolbar. You will see the aggregated results at the bottom of that column. You have also other choices as well like average, min, max, count and distinct count. After creating the required measures, we need to analyze our data in excel. To do this, click on the excel icon in the upper left corner of the toolbar. This will open your analysis in excel. Notice the pivot table field list here. I have highlighted the measures that we created in the earlier step. Now, we can use these measures in our analysis Now, we have to put the required fields in their respective places as column labels, row labels, Values and Report filter for analysis. See below snapshot for details, it shows region wise sales on a yearly basis You can even apply filters on the above analysis by placing the slicer field in report filter. In our example, we will take an English product name as a filter. You can use the filter as depicted in the below snapshot. Optionally, you can also use the slider to filter data more interactively.   • Unable to regress web application from AJAX Control Toolkit 3.0 back to 1.0

    I was recently asked to stop using the Ajax Control Toolkit 3.0 in my application and need to go back to 1.0. Luckily I only have one calendar control which I don't believe will be affected by this. I have removed the reference to the 3.0 .dll and added a reference to the 1.0 .dll.     I am having a hard time consuming a very simple (Hello World) WCF web service in my iPhone app. From what I have read, you must manually create the request message then send it to the web service URL. I was able to accomplish this on a .asmx web service, but not with a WCF service. How do I know the correct format of the request SOAP message? The web service I am trying to hit has a format of: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT/IService1/ (running locally in a VM) I apologize for the lack of information, I am pretty lost.     I am quite certain we cannot use the LIMIT clause for what I want to do - so wanted to find if there are any other ways we can accomplish this. I have a table which captures which user visited which store. Every time a user visits a store, a row is inserted into this table. Some of the fields are shopping_id (primary key) store_id user_id Now what I want is - for a given set of stores, find the top 5 users who have visited the store max number of times. I can do this 1 store at a time as: select store_id,user_id,count(1) as visits from shopping where store_id = 60 group by user_id,store_id order by visits desc Limit 5 This will give me the 5 users who have visited store_id=60 the max times What I want to do is provide a list of 10 store_ids and for each store fetch the 5 users who have visited that store max times select store_id,user_id,count(1) as visits from shopping where store_id in (60,61,62,63,64,65,66) group by user_id,store_id order by visits desc Limit 5 This will not work as the Limit at the end will return only 5 rows rather than 5 rows for each store. Any ideas on how I can achieve this. I can always write a loop and pass 1 store at a time but wanted to know if there is a better way

    Hi, Next week i am supposed to develop an asp.net application which will connect to SAP, retrieve some data, change them and send back to SAP. We decided to use web services to achieve this and now i just want to know what diffuculties may i face with? I have URL of WSDL of the Web Service, will it be enough for me to adding web reference and giving the WSDL's URL? How will i authenticate? And Will it be the same with consuming normal web services? Also i wonder is there anybody that can share a .NET dll that can be used in visual studio 2008? There are some articles relating how to create such a dll using SAP .Net Connector and visual studio 2003 but i could not find anybody sharing the resulting dll under their post. Thanks...

    Hello, I am trying to add the web reference of a IBM FileNet WebSErvice in my .net application. The only change I did is changed the namespace in the reference from System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol TO Microsoft.Web.Services3.WebServicesClientProtocol After doing so, though the application is building properly. I am getting an error ExecuteChanges[webMethod] cannot be reflected. Please help

    I'm trying to get accurate download numbers for some files on a web server. I look at the user agents and some are clearly bots or web crawlers, but many for many I'm not sure, they may or may not be a web crawler and they are causing many downloads so it's important for me to know. Is there somewhere a list of know web crawlers with some documentation like user agent, IPs, behavior, etc? I'm not interested in the official ones, like Google's, Yahoo's, or Microsoft's. Those are generally well behaved and self-indentified.

    Hello, I'm trying to build a .Net application to interrogate Active Directory. From my research, Windows 2008 R2 has Active Directory Web Services (ADWS) built in. I can't find any details or examples anywhere on the web which tell me whether I should be able to use ADWS in a .Net application to read/write AD information. Should I simply be able to add a web reference or is ADWS just for Powershell use. Cheers, Iain
