I'm sure you will say this is bad, but sometimes it is necessary. In Sql Server, you just put [brackets] around the field name.
Is it possible to do this in Access?
Recently set up root encryption with a couple of LVM volumes inside one LUKS volume, and I am just a little confused as to how I would go about getting it to automatically unlock using a keyfile stored on a USB flash drive, I presume I would have to put the drive in the fstab inside my initramfs (if there is one), and add a hook for USB device support.
But I digress, essentially, I want to know what I have to do to enable my LUKS volume (containing all of my partitions sans /boot) to unlock using a keyfile stored on a USB flash drive, rather than a manually entered passphrase.
I have a highly secured computer windows server 2003 where my outlook express is configured, i want to forward all the mails coming from Outlook to gmail. I put some auto forward rule in outlook but its not working. (May be auto forwarding is disabled).
I can forward mails manually.
Is there anyway to get rid off this problem?
I develop web applications on Mac OSX in SQLite, MySQL and PostgreSQL and these are then put on the webserver. I want to be able to take the brunt out of looking at the terminal locally when dealing with these databases - is there any software available (free or otherwise) that can handle all three of these database technologies in a GUI for the Mac that is actually decent and worth it?
My question is very specifically about solid state drives, not regular hard drives. I would like to put in place a grandfather-father-son backup scheme, with the SSDs being used for the grandfather and father portions, and the yearly grandfather would be locked in a safe offsite for maybe 5-10 years. Can I expect that after this period of time the data would be preserved as well as it would be on a tape?
I have a rather big directory on one server (over 4000 files), which I'd like to copy to another server (which contains a previous version of this directory). rsync is the first option, but it will put the destination folder into waiting status for a rather long period of time (more than a minute).
I'd like to do it a bit differently:
gzip the source folder
scp the archive to the destination server
gunzip the file there
delete the archive at the source and the destination
What is the best way to accomplish all this?
Hello all,
I'm using Windows Vista, and I was wondering if I can put shortcuts for applications.Like for example, if I press a certain combination of keys I get notepad, or something like that. If those shortcuts were already there, how can I know them?
Another thing, if I have an application that runs on media files for example, can I add it on the " Right Click" menu when I right click on media files. I hope you got that :)
Thanks alot :)
How should I go about mounting an external hard drive without an enclosure?
I have a IDE/SATA to USB adapter. But where should I put the drive, what side should be facing upwards, etc?
What is the Linux command to clear IP address of an interface without bringing it down and/or restarting network services. Seems strange ifconfig is able to change IP address but has no option to clear it, or am I wrong?
EDIT:As simple as ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0. They should have put it in the man
Today I downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 x64 .iso but when trying it out in live cd the keyboard of both my laptop and a microsoft branded one didn't work. I was planning into installing Ubuntu in a partition but I couldn't even put my info in the installation process to do it.
Is this a problem with the .iso or the driver? because I'm afraid that if I can actually go ahead with the installation then the keyboard won't work after that too.
I'd like to use a netbook to run

I'm thinking of buying the HP ProLiant MicroServer*. My question is if I just put a single 2TB drive, how easy would it be in the future to upgrade to a second 2TB drive in a RAID-1 setup? Can this be done without formatting the original 2TB drive?
*It looks like the £100 cashback offer is stopping end of Aug, making this system cost around £260 without HDDs. Are there any other brands that anyone would recommend for all-in-one hardware solutions.
For the past two days, whenever I plug in my USB mouse (which has been working for a long time, previously) into the laptop, my computer restarts! I tried changing mice, but the same thing happens.
I have 3 ports, usually, I try one port and the laser does not come on, then I try another one and the laser comes and and off, then I again take out and put it in any port and the damn thing just turns off the computer.

I am modding out a custom built case/system. I have my motherboard mounted on a metal tray, (Dell did this) has been working great. Not I am modding the case to hold everything and how I want to mount the motherboard on the tray I have a slight gap between the wall of the case and the motherboard/tray.
Can I put a piece of thin anti-static foam/packaging in between the tray and the case?
That is safe right?
I have MySQL replication set up in production as follows:
DB1 - DB2
DB1 - BAK
Where DB2 and BAK are slaves to DB1. All 3 servers are in sync (0 seconds behind the master) and have 30+ GB of data.
I'd like to put the servers in a new master-slave configuration as follows:
DB1 - DB2 - BAK
What is the best way to change the master host on BAK?
Is there a way to avoid having to stop the slave thread on DB2 and getting a mysqldump for BAK (a 5-6 hour processes) ?
I'm trying to make everything portable, as my office IT has cracked down on native app installation. One of my favorites (and a good CYA app in this case) is Spybot. All I can find are directions on how to alter the installation to make it portable. Is there a single download out there that would put the app right onto my USB drive?
I found this link to modify an Ubuntu install CD.

However, I want to put the Adaptec aic94xx RAID driver onto the disk so that my RAID controller is recognised and I can set up a mirror.
How do I go about doing this?

Hi,
Is it possible to insert to total amount of slides in a powerpoint footnote? I'm looking for an automated way.
Of couse that I could edit the footer and put it manually, but, if I increase/decrease it, I would be necessary to adjust it. And this is something that we always forget.
The help at MS explains how to do it manually. I can't believe that powerpoint doesn't have it...
TIA,
Bob
Took me a bit to realize that since upgrading to 8.1 my touchpad smart gestures (two finger scroll, top down swipe, left in swipe, ect) don't work. I have read up a little online but can't seem to find an answer or fix that 1) sounds trustworthy and 2) is put into language and steps that I understand.
I already have a hard time navigating windows 8 in general, so any help is awesome, but please dumb it down for me if you can.
Thanks -K-
I've received an email with an embedded table. I want to put some marks inside that table (i.e., edit the contentof the table) and send it back.
Unfortunately, the Gmail interface doesn't seem to have table editing capabilities: after I hit reply, I see the table in the quoted text of the original message, but is not editable...
If this is not possible in Gmail, how do I export the HTML source of this messsage and edit in another installed word processor?
I have a buildVM running in Fusion that is in need of some more power so I want to move it to an ESX host.
What do I need to do to the VM before I move it?
where on the ESX host should I put it (local storage here)
what should I do to it after its physically on the ESX host?
I use Open Grid Scheduler (a fork/copy of Sun Grid Engine).
I have tried this configuration from master:
# qconf -mattr exechost complex_values slots=8 slave2
# qconf -mq all.q | grep slots
slots 100,[slave1=1],[slave2=8]
slave1 is down, then I run 10 qsub with a sleep example (so no CPU consumption) but only 4 jobs are run at the same time on slave2 instead of I have put 8 slots.
What does I missed ?
PS: my goal is to provide infinite slots to force SGE to schedule only via consummable ressources.
I find myself constantly typing (using tab, of course) absurd paths like
cd path/to/the/thing\ that\ I\ need/python/proj/eraseme
Aside from doing an ln -s (or some other type of ln?), is there any other way to get around faster? Also, if the solution is to use ln, is there some standard way/place to put the links so a not to clutter my ~ directory?
I'm not asking for shortcuts only: any solution that helps with the problem of "how to get around" would help.
I need a cheap netbook for "router" functions. [OpenBSD/Scientific Linux/whatever will be on it on OS level]. So once I configure it I will put it somewhere down for YEARS.
The Question is: What is the lifespan difference of the netbook if it will be [for years]:
with opened lid
with closed lid
I don't think there will be heat problems, because netbooks doesn't produce too much heat. But will ex.: a closed lid [for years] decrease the lifespan of a netbook?
Hi all,
I have recently pulled the battery out of the motherboard on an old Acer desktop to reset the bios, but when I put the battery back in after about 3-4 hours, and start it up, the cpu fan just keeps getting faster and faster, like it won't stop at all.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this problem?
Cheers!
