  • Help creating image from LVM

    I need to duplicate CentOS hard drive image for multiple stations. The HD has the following layout: Disk /dev/sdb: 250GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 32.3kB 107MB 107MB primary ext3 boot 2 107MB 250GB 250GB primary lvm I saved /dev/sdb1 to file with fsarchiver but for sdb2 I get: /fsarchiver savefs an2.fsa /dev/sdb2 oper_save.c#1006,filesystem_mount_partition(): can't detect and mount filesystem of partition [/dev/sdb2], cannot continue. removed an2.fsa Although fsarchiver probe simple correctly detects sdb2 as LVM2_member. Is fsarchiver correct tool for this job? What's wrong? I'm on Ubuntu 9.1 with fsarchiver 0.6.8 and lvm tools installed. Thanks.

  • External USB disk drive cannot be remounted in Windows XP

    I have Maxtor Basics Desktop 1TB external USB drive connected to Windows XP. The dirve's firmware puts it to sleep after 10-20 min of inactivity and then the drive cannot be mounted unless I reset it via power connector. While in sleep mode I can see the device in the Device Manager under both Disk drives and USB sections. Is there a way to get the drive out of sleep mode without hard reset? Thanks

  • installing wxGTK-devel on CentOS 5.4

    I'm trying to install wxGTK-devel on CentOS and since it's not in the base repo I added RPMForge. But now I'm getting these broken dependencies. I don't want start tampering with separate rpms because I suspect it will make thing worse. I remember installing this package from RPMForge without a problem several months ago.   • Host hijacks USB printer from VirtualBox machine

    I have Ubuntu 9.1 running Windows XP in VirtualBox. Windows XP is a print server (there is no Linux driver for our printer). The printer is connected via USB and its USB filter is added to virtual machine settings. The problem is that every several hours Ubuntu tries to access the printer (trying to install it) and disconnects it from the virtual machine. The printer remains disconnected until I connect it again manually. I thought it is a problem with Windows power management but disabling sleep/standby in Windows didn't help. Please, advise.

    What is the Linux command to clear IP address of an interface without bringing it down and/or restarting network services. Seems strange ifconfig is able to change IP address but has no option to clear it, or am I wrong? EDIT:As simple as ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0. They should have put it in the man

  • bridge traffic limiting via tc

    I have a Linux machine running as a bridge simulating various network conditions. I use tc for this. Introducing delays or packet loss is quite simple but I got into trouble trying to configure bandwidth limiting. Can you, please, show me how to limit all the traffic going through my bridge without any special rules and condition, simply limit it to 1Mb/s? Thanks. PS Your favorite link to tc tutorial will be appreciated.
