• Why is my iPhone SDK 3.2 iPad code showing a white screen?

  I'm trying to get a UISplitViewController working with an iPad app. I have the table view controller linked up under the Master pane and a plain UIView under the Detail view. I also have [window addSubview:splitView.view]; in my code. For some reason I just get a white screen even though the table view controller code is properly coded and linked under my nib. • Upon doing a XSL Transform to XML how do I remove white space from a Node's attribute or data?

  I have a part's list built out in XML and each part is labeled as such: <division> <parts> <part number="123456 " drawing="123456 " cad="y"> <attribute> <header>Header</header> <list>2</list> </attribute> </part> And I need to get the data behind the number and drawing attributes without the white space. I tried xsl:strip-space on the specific elements, and across the board, but that only strips the content in between the tags. I unfortunately have no access to the back-end that's producing the XML, so removing the spaces there doesn't look like an option.

  I want to render an ERDAS-Image-file (suffix .img) with the UMN-Mapserver. The data is rendered on the right position and with the correct shape, but all data is white instead of an raster-image. The Image contains many layers.   If I add a validation attribute: public class ProductDownloadListModel { //xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx [Required] [StringLength(17)] public string PSN { get; set; } public DateTime PsnExpirationDate { get; set; } public DataTable Downloads { get; set; } } and the user enters a 17-character string but includes white space on the end, I get a validation error because the string is greater than that specified by the [StringLength(17)] attribute. How can I prevent this? I'd prefer not to have to have javaScript trim the string before submits.

  I export an oracle "schema" using exp userid=/ file=pt.dmp log=pt.log owner=FOO buffer=10000000 statistics=NONE direct=Y and then import it into a different schema on the same oracle instance on the same SID using imp userid=/ file=pt.dmp fromuser=FOO touser=paul When I try to access the stored procedures, I get ORA-29541: class PAUL.ESMQOracleStoredProc could not be resolved Any idea why one user can resolve this but another one can't?

• Convert color photos of documents to good black-and-white images?

  Since I don't have a copier or scanner, I'm using an 8 megapixel camera to copy documents. This works pretty well except they need a lot of processing afterward. I'd like to get from a photo to a bitmap, but using djpeg -grayscale -pnm photo.jpg | pgmtopbm -threshold -value XXX does not work so well, for two reasons: It's hard to guess what XXX should be, and XXX is different for different photos. Illumination varies, and sometimes a single threshold isn't what's right for the image. How can I do better? The ideal solution will be fully automatic command-line program that I can run on Linux. (I have already written a program to remove dark pixels from the edges of images.)

  I only want to accpet email from two addresses, the rest I want to delete immediately, unseen. I know how to make fileers and I can whitelist those two addresses. If I make 3 filter, in this order; 1) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 2) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 3) from *@*.* delete immediately, never move to trash can I be guaranteed that that will do what I want? For instance, can I be sure that the filters are executed in that order? I dont want to lose amy mail from those two adresses.

  I am relative new to shell scripting and sed. I need to substitute a pattern, globably, but I also need to remember (or save) part of the pattern and use it later in the same substitute command. The saved pattern will be varible, so I need to use a wild card. For example, input message=trt:GetAudioSourcesRequest/> and I want to end up with something like input message=trt:GetAudioSourcesRequest PAUL/GetAudioSourcesRequest/> but the function string "GetAudioSourcesRequest" will change (in length also) throughtout the file, so I need a wild card, e.g. sed -i "s/input message=trt:<wild card in here>/>/input message=trt:<print wild card> PAUL/<print wild card>/> I have managed to get the following command to nearly do what I want but it is too rigid. It only stores a 4 syllable pattern so if I have a function name such as GetProfileRequest, this doesn't work echo "input message=\"trt:GetAudioSourcesRequest\"/>" | sed 's/input message=\"trt:\([A-Z][a-z]*\)\([A-Z][a-z]*\)\([A-Z][a-z]*\)\([A-Z][a-z]*\).*/input message=\"trt:\1\2\3\4\ PAUL\/\1\2\3\4"\/\>/g' This outputs input message="trt:GetAudioSourcesRequest PAUL/GetAudioSourcesRequest"/> Which is ok but when I use GetProfileRequest this doesn't. • Ubuntu 14.04 stalling. Problem with LightDM. Plymouth (and logging out) switches over to a black screen w/ white cursor

  if its a duplicate, sorry. Couldn't find anything that fits my issue, much less that was on 14.04. I changed a few things recently. Switched to the Numix theme (from PPA), installed lm-sensors and psensor (ran all the I/O probes), Ubuntu Tweak, Pinta, and well, Team Fortress 2 on Steam. :P The system will get to the Plymouth 'ubuntu' screen, load load, all dots filled, switches over to LightDM, but wait! No LightDM. :I Just a blank screen with that white cursor. Can't switch out to tty1-6 - not sure if the Ctrl-Alt-F1 is disabled in 14.04 or if its literally just locked down. If I change any files, I have access to the filesystem from my Windows 8 partition. That's it. :/ I'm pretty familiar with Linux, especially Ubuntu, but I think I'm still at the point I know just enough to break things and not always how to fix 'em. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! UPDATE I was just able to get into my desktop briefly. I booted Ubuntu. When the black screen froze, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. When it started switching off, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. It rebooted. I plugged the second monitor in I had been using before the issue ever came about. Plymouth displayed on both. LightDM came up, displayed on both (it used to show only the ubuntu logo on the unfocused monitor though). I logged in just fine. Even ran some pending software updates. I logged out of the desktop though, and LightDM refused to show again. xP

  I have gone through a few posts that talks about changing the GraphicsDevice.BlendState and GraphicsDevice.DepthStencilState (SpriteBatch & Render states). . however even after changing the states .. i cant see my 3D model on the screen.. I see the model for a second before i draw my video in the background. . • Plan Operator Tuesday round-up

  Eighteen posts for T-SQL Tuesday #43 this month, discussing Plan Operators. I put them together and made the following clickable plan. It’s 1000px wide, so I hope you have a monitor wide enough. Let me explain this plan for you (people’s names are the links to the articles on their blogs – the same links as in the plan above). It was clearly a SELECT statement. Wayne Sheffield (@dbawayne) wrote about that, so we start with a SELECT physical operator, leveraging the logical operator Wayne Sheffield. The SELECT operator calls the Paul White operator, discussed by Jason Brimhall (@sqlrnnr) in his post. The Paul White operator is quite remarkable, and can consume three streams of data. Let’s look at those streams. The first pulls data from a Table Scan – Boris Hristov (@borishristov)’s post – using parallel threads (Bradley Ball – @sqlballs) that pull the data eagerly through a Table Spool (Oliver Asmus – @oliverasmus). A scalar operation is also performed on it, thanks to Jeffrey Verheul (@devjef)’s Compute Scalar operator. The second stream of data applies Evil (I figured that must mean a procedural TVF, but could’ve been anything), courtesy of Jason Strate (@stratesql). It performs this Evil on the merging of parallel streams (Steve Jones – @way0utwest), which suck data out of a Switch (Paul White – @sql_kiwi). This Switch operator is consuming data from up to four lookups, thanks to Kalen Delaney (@sqlqueen), Rick Krueger (@dataogre), Mickey Stuewe (@sqlmickey) and Kathi Kellenberger (@auntkathi). Unfortunately Kathi’s name is a bit long and has been truncated, just like in real plans. The last stream performs a join of two others via a Nested Loop (Matan Yungman – @matanyungman). One pulls data from a Spool (my post – @rob_farley) populated from a Table Scan (Jon Morisi). The other applies a catchall operator (the catchall is because Tamera Clark (@tameraclark) didn’t specify any particular operator, and a catchall is what gets shown when SSMS doesn’t know what to show. Surprisingly, it’s showing the yellow one, which is about cursors. Hopefully that’s not what Tamera planned, but anyway...) to the output from an Index Seek operator (Sebastian Meine – @sqlity). Lastly, I think everyone put in 110% effort, so that’s what all the operators cost. That didn’t leave anything for me, unfortunately, but that’s okay. Also, because he decided to use the Paul White operator, Jason Brimhall gets 0%, and his 110% was given to Paul’s Switch operator post. • GAME MAKER Problem with sprites! Can't see the sprite after mouse action

  I have got a problem in Game Maker Pro: http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3646/egdpdu6u_gif.htm At the start we see a white square moving. If I press a key the square stop to move and the background changes to white. If the background changes to white a new animation/sprite should play on the same position where the white square was. BUT IT DOESNT! (Actually it is still there! It just does not move and this is fine) The animation is basically a sprite animation with some outlines of the square. If I press a key again, the background changes to white and we see the animation of the sprite.. but we do not see the animation of the sprites when it does not move. And this is strange!! I want to have the animation of the square when it doesn't move. But I don't get it.. by the way.. the .gif is a old version. I allready fixed the problem with the moving animation.. but I am still not able to play the animation if the square does not fly. The color of the animation is allready set to green or something! for better contrast. But still.. can't see it. • unable to read/write CIFS mounts in Ubuntu 11.10

  upgraded my laptop from 11.04 too 11.10 and since then the CIFS mounts are not working before the upgrade it would allow mounts on host names, in 11.10 its only IP addresses (not much of an issue) however all the shares i mount are as Read only despite the FStab File declaring the options rw and auto, i have chowned the mount point to be nogroup.nouser and it still wont work, here is an extract from my FSTAB: //192.168.1.1/stories /home/paul/Documents/Stories cifs rw,user,exec,auto,username=,password= 0 0

• Is there any hueristic to polygonize a closed 2d-raster shape with n triangles?

  Lets say we have a 2d image black on white that shows a closed geometric shape. Is there any (not naive brute force) algorithm that approximates that shape as closely as possible with n triangles? If you want a formal definition for as closely as possible: Approximate the shape with a polygon that when rendered into a new 2d image will match the largest number of pixels possible with the original image.
