    When trying to start Ubuntu from my USB key in UEFI mode (it works in Legacy mode, but I have to keep Windows) on a Dell Inspiron 15z , Grub starts, but when I choose any option, I get a black screen and my USB key stop teling me it is being read. EDIT: when using the legacy mode and trying to install Ubuntu, I get a blank partition table with Ubiquity… … and a very strange partition table from GParted (I have a hybrid 32Go SSD + 500Go HDD disk) :

  • How does "Compatability Mode" in Windows 7 affect the application?

    Background: Based on the answer given to this question: "Skype behaviour in the Windows 7 Superbar" ...you can get Skype to minimize to the system tray (rather than the task bar) by running it in compatibility mode. (red flags going off in my head) That's the behavior that I want but what does "compatibility mode" do to the executing application? I am concerned about changing the execution mode of an entire (important) application to a previous generation just to alter the user interface behavior a bit. So, what does compatibility mode actually do internally? What are the disadvantages, as in "how could the application (Skype) suffer?"

  • Continuous integration - build Debug and Release every time?

    Is it standard practice when setting up a Continuous Integration server to build a Debug and Release version of each project? Most of the time developers code with a Debug mode project configuration set enabled and there could be different library path configurations, compiler defines, or other items configured differently between Debug/Release that would cause them to act differently. I configured my CI server to build both Debug & Release of each project and I'm wondering if I'm just overthinking it. My assumption is that I'll do this as long as I can get quick feedback and once that happens, then push the Release off to a nightly build perhaps. Is there a 'standard' way of approaching this?

  • Doing an SNES Mode 7 (affine transform) effect in pygame

    Is there such a thing as a short answer on how to do a Mode 7 / mario kart type effect in pygame? I have googled extensively, all the docs I can come up with are dozens of pages in other languages (asm, c) with lots of strange-looking equations and such. Ideally, I would like to find something explained more in English than in mathematical terms. I can use PIL or pygame to manipulate the image/texture, or whatever else is necessary. I would really like to achieve a mode 7 effect in pygame, but I seem close to my wit's end. Help would be greatly appreciated. Any and all resources or explanations you can provide would be fantastic, even if they're not as simple as I'd like them to be.   • Sales and Procurement Contracts 12.1.3++ Release Information

    New functionality has been released for Sales and Procurement Contracts in a new patch: Contracts 12.1.3++: Patch 13877401: 12.1.3 Rollup for Oracle Contracts Core. The new functionality includes: APIs for Import of Contract Templates, Contract Expert rules, Questions and Constants: The three APIs are as follows: API for Templates, API for Rules, and API for Questions and Constants. These can be used to both create entities and update existing templates and rules. The APIs will display error and warning messages which can be processed and analyzed by the customer. Ability to Apply Multiple Templates to a Sourcing, Procurement or Sales Document: The buyer can select and add multiple templates to a quote,sales agreement document, sourcing or purchasing odcument.  All the clauses and deliverables from the new templates are synchronized with the document. The Contract Expert rules are from the original template. The buyer can also view the list of templates that are added to any sales or procurement document. Ability to Define Multi-Row Variables: You can create user defined manual variables that are tables containing one row per line or multiple rows. Contract Preview will print the variable values according to the layout defined for the variable. These variables are not available for Contract Expert Rules and Supplier. Enhancement to Suggested Sections for Clauses by Contract Expert: You can associate multiple default sections with a clause. A clause is associated with multiple values of any system variable and for each such value a section name is associated in Contracts Terms Library. When Contract Expert is run in the contract authoring flow, the clause is automatically placed in the associated section name. Plus many more new features.   • Windows only successfully wakes up from sleep mode about 2/3rds of the time.

    On my Vista laptop, when it goes into sleep mode (for low power, or manually being put into sleep mode, it happens regardless of how), about 1 in 3 times it won't wake up properly from sleep mode, and just display a black screen. The only option is to hold the power button to turn it off by holding the power button, and turning it back on again. (And yes, I have moved the mouse, pressed keyboard buttons and stuff).

  • How to define template for org-mode HTML export?

    I am using org-mode to generate html pages from my notes. I used Publishing Org-mode files to HTML to setup blog system. I have defined an export template. But to use it I have to add following line in top of my every org file inside my notes project. #+SETUPFILE: ~/.emacs.d/org-templates/level-0.org Is there a way to set this up in .emacs or to customize an org-mode variable so that I do not have to place this line in every file? According to org-mode manual, #+SETUPFILE is an in-buffer setting. Does this mean I cannot define it globally for all org files? These two answers on SU tell how to customize style for HTML export. But my template file contains other settings besides CSS style. So only customizing style won't do it for me.

  • Cannot load viper-mode in Emacs24

    Every time I try to load viper-mode in Emacs24 using M-x viper-mode, I get error Wrong type argument: symbolp, (quote 3) I have observed it happens when I try to load viper-mode for the after opening Emacs or after I have issued M-x viper-go-away So once I get this error and run the same command again, viper-mode loads successfully. When I use toggle-viper-mode to turn it off, viper-mode goes away successfully. But when I try to turn it back on using toggle-viper-mode again, I get the above stated error. I have to use viper-go-away and then M-x viper-mode twice to get it back working. How can I get rid of this error?

    Vim has a terrific paste mode, in which abbreviations and mappings are ignored. Frustratingly, even keys that do not map to pastable ASCII characters, such as the function keys, are pasted literally. For instance the key F2 is pasted as <F2>. Is there anyway around this? Note that pastetoggle can in fact be mapped to a function key to easily leave paste mode, however the function that I am writing changes other values when entering or leaving paste mode (such as enabling or disabling line numbers and other things). Therefore I would really like to find a workaround.     When attaching a USB flash disk (NTFS formatted) to a laptop with Ubuntu Server 12.04 on board, I get following messages: [ 3572.355603] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present [ 3572.355640] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 3572.361599] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present [ 3572.361636] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through I get them right in the terminal, so that I should press Ctrl+C to proceed with working (entering commands). Is it normal or do I have to setup Caching mode somehow? Thank you.
