    I right-click on a top-level folder in Windows Explorer. I choose Properties Security tab Advanced Change Permissions. I check "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" Apply. I get a Windows Security dialog that says, "Setting security information on" the list of objects that flashes by. But now the "Replace all child object permissions" box is unchecked. What is happening here?

    I you copy/paste some files into a directory that already contains files with the same name you'll get a confirmation dialog "There is already a file with the same name in this location..." To replace all files you have to check "Do this for the next N conflicts" and then click on "Copy and Replace". Is there a keyboard shortcut for this (like there was in XP where you could simply press 'a')?

    I have thousands of files with no specific extensions. What I need to do is to search for a sting in filename and replace with other string and further search for second string and replace with any other string and so on. I.e.: I have multiple strings to replace with other multiple strings. It may be like: "abc" in filename replaced with "def" * String "abc" may be in many files "jkl" in filename replaced with "srt" * String "jkl" may be in many files "pqr" in filename replaced with "xyz" * String "pqr" may be in many files I am currently using excel macro to get the file names in excel and then preserving original names in one column and replacing desired in the content copied in other column. then I create a batch file for the same. Like: rename Path\OriginalName1 NewName1 rename Path\OriginalName2 NewName2 Problem with the above procedure is that it takes a lot of time as the files are many. And As I am using excel 2003 there is limitation on number of rows as well. I need a script in batch like: replacestr abc with def replacestr pqr with xyz in a single directory. Will it be better to do in unix script?

  • Suspend not working after kernel update on an HP Envy14 1050

    I just update ubuntu 12.04 to the kernel 3.2.0-30 and together with it a lot of packeges in the system. I am running it on an HP Envy14 1050. When I first made a fresh install of the clean ubuntu 12.04 I had the problem that when restoring from suspend the screen was black, although some backlight was there. I could fix it following this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/989674/comments/20. Now, after the update the black screen after suspend has reappeared but with no backlight at all and the led in the caps lock key blinking. The laptop is using a ATI radeon 5600 with the privative drivers. During the update process there was an error with depmod . You can see the /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt-term.log file at the end. UPDATE: suspend is not working at all. The problem is not when restoring from suspend, but when I try to suspend the system it gets blocked and the fan running. Only option is to press power button.     Hello I have a directory with lots of folders, subfolder and all with files in them. The idea of my project is to recurse through the entire directory, gather up all the names of the files and replace invalid characters (invalid for a SharePoint migration). However, i'm completely unfamiliar with Regular Expressions. The characters i need to get rid in filenames are: ~, #, %, &, *, { } , \, /, :, <, ?, -, | and "" I want to replace these characters with a blank space. I was hoping to use a string.replace() method to look through all these file names and do the replacement. So far, the only code i've gotten to is the recursion. I was thinking of the recursion scanning the drive, fetching the names of these files and putting them in a List. Can anybody help me with how to find/replace invalid chars with RegEx with those specific characters?

    I'm trying to purge my WordPress content from "false" carriage return (CR). These are caused after a migration of my content, that now presents from time to time a &nbsp; code that makes the web rendering engine to "paint" a CR where I would like to be nothing. The paragraphs seem to have a double CR because of this, and look too far apart. I'd like to be able to make a MySQL query in order to get rid of that strings, but at the moment I haven't found the key. What I've tried is UPDATE wp_posts set post_content = replace (post_content,'&nbsp;',' '); But i get <p> </p> where before were the &nbsp; strings. This seems not the answer at all. Could it have to be with the ampersand, and in that case, should I use something like &amp;nbsp; or something similar?

    When I tried to do a Windows Vista Complete PC Backup, I received an error message that blathered about bad sectors. Then, when I ran chkdsk /r on the destination drive, this is what I got: C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /R E: The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is Desktop Backup. On the other hand, if I RmA the drive to Seagate, I have no SeaTools error number to use and they may claim that the drive is just fine. What should I try to do next? Side frustration: There is plenty of free hard drive space. The E: partition has 182 GB free.

    Hi guys! I'm trying to create permalink like behavior for some article titles and i don't want to add a new db field for permalink. So i decided to write a helper that will convert my article title from: "O "focoasa" a pornit cruciada, împotriva barbatilor zgârciti" to "o-focoasa-a-pornit-cruciada-impotriva-barbatilor-zgarciti". While i figured out how to replace spaces with hyphens and remove other special characters (other than -) using: title.gsub(/\s/, "-").gsub(/[^\w-]/, '').downcase I am wondering if there is any other way to replace a character with a specific other character from only one .gsub method call, so I won't have to chain title.gsub("a", "a") methods for all the UTF-8 special characters of my localization. I was thinking of building a hash with all the special characters and their counterparts but I haven't figured out yet how to use variables with regexps. What I was looking for is something like: title.gsub(/\s/, "-").gsub(*replace character goes here*).gsub(/[^\w-]/, '').downcase Thanks!
