  • Report Viewer problem after moving to new server

    I have just moved a site from a Windows 2003, IIS6 SQL 2005 server to a new one with Windows 2008, IIS7 and SQL 2008. I am having problems with the Report Viewer. I have installed the Report Viewer Re-distributable (I've tried 2005, 2005sp, 2008 and 2008sp) I've Mapped a handler in IIS for Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd to type Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler, Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a However whenever I run a report on the website I get the following error message: Could not load type 'Microsoft.Reporting.Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler' from assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'Microsoft.Reporting.Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler' from assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'.   • Sanity check on this idea for an Image Viewer in a web app

    I have an approach in mind for an image viewer in a web app, and want to get a sanity check and any thoughts you stackoverflowers might have. Here's the whirlwind nutshell summary: I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC application that will run in my company's retail stores. Even though it is a web application, we own the store machines and have control over them. We have a "windows agent" running on the store machine which we can talk to via http post (it is a WCF service, and our web app has permission to talk to it from the browser). One of the web pages needs to be an "image viewer" page with some common things like Rotate & Zoom. Now, there are some WebForms controls that offer Rotate and Zoom. However, they take up server resources and generate a good bit of traffic between the server and the browser. For example, the Rotate function would cause an ajax call to the server, which would then generate a new image written to a .NET Canvas object, which would then be written to a file on the server, which would then be returned from the ajax call and refreshed inside the browser. Normally, that's a pretty good way of doing things. But in our case, we have code running on the store machine that we can communicate with. This leads me to consider the following approach: When the user asks to view an image, we tell our "windows agent" to download it from our image server to the store machine. We then redirect our browser to our image viewer page, which will pull the image from the local file we just wrote to the store machine. When the user clicks "Rotate", we cause JavaScript code in the browser to call our "windows agent" software, asking it to perform the "Rotate" function. The "windows agent" does the rotation using the same kind of imaging control that would formerly have been used on the server, but it does so now on the store machine. Javascript in the browser then refreshes the image on the page to show the newly rotated image. Zoom and similar features would be implemented the same way. This seems to be much more efficient, scalable, and responsive for the end-users. However, I've never heard of anything like it being done, mostly because it's rare to have this combination of a web app plus a "windows agent" on the client machine. What do you think? Feasible? Reasonable? Any pitfalls I overlooked or improvements / suggestions you can see? Has anyone done anything like this who would like to offer the wisdom of experience? Thanks!

  • BIRT Viewer with Rails App

    Has anyone tried using BIRT for reporting on a Rails app.. I am working on a pretty big app on ROR. I was trying to get BIRT to work happily with the app. Since the BIRT Report Designer cannot be used with Rails, I decided to use BIRT Viewer alone and give the links to the reports on the page and have BIRT Viewer running on Tomcat on the same box to render the reports. This has a big problem of not being able to allow the user to create any custom reports. Has anybody tried anything even remotely close to this??? If yes do you have any tips for me on any part of this endeavor? Thanks in advance for all the help.

    My program is getting a false positive from a certain 3 letter Anti Virus Company. Its just our companies branded version of Ultra VNC. Its only this one company that's identifying it as a virus and we've been using the same copy of that program for almost a year. I know its possible to tell this Anti Virus program the VNC client is safe, but I can't do that for all of our clients. I've tried to find a way to contact this company to see if they can do something to prevent this from happening, but I'm not getting anywhere. Has anyone who's experiened this issue with thier software, found a solution? Thanks

    Hi all, for a data warehouse project I need to know about some best practices regarding custom report viewer filters/parameters. Usually I use the standard parameter feature for reports, like multiple select boxes, check boxes, text boxes etc.. But for the current project some reports require more complex report parameters. E.g. a user wants to analyze some measures. For that the user needs to set a filter on a specific address. There are over 100.000 address to choose from, so he has to have the ability to search for an address (full text). Since such features cannot be done with the standard parameters, I will have to create custom params within a ASPX page which are then passed to the report viewer control. So my question is: Are there any best practices on how to create custom parameters? Did anyone had similar problems, if so, how did you solve it?

    I am working on a software product with an integrated log file viewer. Problem is, its slow and unstable for really large files because it reads the whole file into memory when you view a log file. I'm wanting to write a new log file viewer that addresses this problem. What are the best practices for writing viewers for large text files? How does editors like notepad++ and VIM acomplish this? I was thinking of using a buffered Bi-directional text stream reader together with Java's TableModel. Am I thinking along the right lines and are such stream implementations available for Java?

    I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed on a machine and I always use it remotely from VNC. When I have monitor connected to this machine, I can change the resolution of my VNC viewer in the following line: $vnc4server --geometry 1440x900 This worked for me, but I always use this machine remotely, I unplug the monitor and reboot. and the above command line not work anymore. Then I tried xrandr SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh *0 1024 x 768 ( 260mm x 195mm ) *60 Current rotation - normal Current reflection - none Rotations possible - normal Reflections possible - none There is only one option available, so I tried to add a new one. $cvt 1440 900 # 1440x900 59.89 Hz (CVT 1.30MA) hsync: 55.93 kHz; pclk: 106.50 MHz Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.50 1440 1528 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 -hsync +vsync $xrandr --newmode "1440x900_60.00" 106.50 1440 1528 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 -hsync +vsync $xrandr --addmode S2 "1440x900_60.00" then I checked with xrandr again and can't see the new mode added. I try to execute the following command and get error says my RandR is too old. $xrandr --output S2 --mode 1440x900_60.00 xrandr: Server RandR version before 1.2 but this does not make sense to me, if I plug in the monitor back and run the xrandr command, it works again! It seems that Ubuntu must conntect to a real monitor before I can change my resolution in my VNC viewer. Can anyone help? UPDATE: Finally I solved this problem by changing to tightvncserver $tightvncserver -geometry 1440x900 works for me. Thanks everything answered my question

  • Is it possible to use Google Docs Viewer to view files already in Google Docs?

    The title is a little confusing. I'll elaborate. As far as I can tell, the Google Docs Viewer tool accepts a link to a raw document file (e.g. .doc, .pdf, et. al.), and renders its contents in the browser. For example, this url to a pdf http://research.google.com/archive/bigtable-osdi06.pdf when passed to Viewer, returns this link: http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fresearch.google.com%2Farchive%2Fbigtable-osdi06.pdf What I'm trying to achieve is, use the Viewer to view a document already hosted in Google Docs (i.e. no longer a raw document file). When passing a link to a Google Docs document to the Viewer, the result is not as expected. It renders the link's HTML source instead of the document's contents. The reason I want to do this is that I want to be able to use the "embed" feature of Viewer to view Google Docs documents. Does Google Docs have a "link to embeddable view" feature? P.S. Here is a sample snippet to an embedded document.     I found the following error message when I checked View source of the web page , but the web page works just fine. Our Test lead found the error while performing Assertion tests. Note:There is a div tag around this error message which has style="display:none" I am trying to find out why but everybody has only discussed this error message as one which is thrown in the webpage. Bonus point: -Alarm when certain pattern is matched.

Means I can't use gmail or yahoo site for mailing. Ok. I don't want to break my office rules - but what about my mails on gmail & yahoo, they are really very important for me.     Hi, One of my most valuable software tools has always been Norton DiskEdit from Norton Utilities/Symantec Systemworks. I have used it for years for so many things, including, but not limited to learning file-systems. I am now in search of a similar tool that can let me view FAT and NTFS disks at a low and high level under Windows. I have seen Runtime Software’s DiskExplorer, but unfortunately, it is limited in a number of ways, particularly annoying is that it does not really let you view the disk as structured (it does not let you see directory entries from a directory that is fragmented like DiskEdit can without doing a too-exhaustive scan which doesn’t even work for FAT partitions that have cluster sizes <4KB). Does anyone know of a Windows alternative of a Norton DiskEditor? Thanks a lot.

  • PDF rendering of images seems to vary from viewer to viewer with blurring?

    I'm generating PDF figures in Adobe Illustrator CS5 that include embedded images. I've noticed that the images look dramatically different when I display the same PDF in Preview, Skim or Adobe Reader (I'm on OS X). See screenshots. Adobe Reader displays them "correctly" while Skim and Preview blurs the image out each in a different way. Is there a setting I can set when saving my PDF from Illustrator so that the images are displayed correctly in Skim and Preview? The PDF was generated in Illustrator and saved without any compression or downsampling.     I'm looking for a solution that allows multiple persons to put plan and notify their vacation by putting it in their electronic calendar and invite a dedicated "robot" email. On the other side I should be able to get a quick overview of the vacation for each person and do a print out that allows me to put it on a board. Example: John puts his winter vacation for week 7 into his calendar and invite [email protected]. Ben does the same thing for week 4 and 5 and invites [email protected]. Dilbert host the [email protected] and prints out and overview for the next 3 months. Each person's vacation is either stated by name or/and color on the print out. I would like to do the thing with standard business software like Outlook 2010 without installing too many softwares. But at the same time it should be easy and quick to make the print outs without too much fiddling Am I dreaming ?

  • remote desktop computer viewer?

    I would like to install a quad core computer in my dorm at college and use my much slower laptop to be able to control the quad core just as if I had a quad core laptop (control as in i see the gui, not command line control)! Both are on the same college network, though Im also interested in what would be necessary if the computers were on different networks. What would be the best method fot this?
