  I was wondering which way would create a faster programming language, because I have tried both. Writing code that takes the text, splits it by whitespace or newlines or something, then processes each line and has a dictionary for variables. Or writing code that takes text and converts it to another programming language.   i know this is a "not build in" or "the way dba thinks" but a programmer aproach , How could one request from 3 fields to get the one that is not null, into a result filed. lets say we have a table with f1,f2,f3,f4,f5. lets say f2,f3,f4 are the same type. lets say the content of the table be tupples of (key1,null,null,value1,value2) (key2,null,value3,value4,value5) (key3,null,null,null,value6) now if we return the first tupple then we get (key1) we get (key1,value1,value2) if we ask for key2 we get (key1,value3,value5) if we ask for key3 we get (key1,null,value6) how is it possible to get the fields in the priority of if you have value in f2, then its set into the returned field, only then if we have value in f3 then its set into the middle returned field, only then if we have value in f4 then its set into the middle returned field the main goal is to get the result into a sigel feild and prevent the overhead work needed at the result end.

  This is based on another SO question: Have you ever recognized any source code visible in a movie? where we were discussing some of the cheap tricks to add technical "details" to a scene (e.g. showing HTML/java script code or hexdumps and mockup GUIs). Which brought up the question: Has anybody here helped create "computer effects" (e.g. as a technical consultant) for movies/TV shows to add some pseudo-technical details to a scene? If you can, please do provide details - what exactly were you supposed to do, and what did you end up doing? Were your proud of your contribution to the final product? What was the pay like?

  Looking at python modules and at code in the "lib-dnyload" directory in the python framework, I noticed whenever code is creating some kind of gui or graphic it imports a non-python file with a .so extension. And there are tons .so files in "lib-dnyload". From googling things I found that these files are called shared objects and are written in c or c++. I have a mac and I use gcc. I want to know how to make shared object files that are accessible via python. Mainly just how to make shared objects with gcc using mac os x.

• Alien deletes .deb when converting from .rpm

  I'm trying to convert .rpm to .deb using alien. sudo alien -k libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.rpm Alien says that: libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.deb generated But when I check the folder - there is just original .rpm and no .deb. Also - I can see that for a split second there is a .deb file in a folder. so it looks like alien create .deb and deletes it right away. I suspect that it's maybe because I run 64 bit os and package is 32? Can somebody explain why alien deletes .deb automatically?   I'm having frequent disconnects with my new install of Ubuntu 12.10. I tried updating the kernel driver to the latest intel release to no avail. My expertise is spent. • Alien deletes .deb when converting from .rpm

  I'm trying to convert .rpm to .deb using alien. sudo alien -k libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.rpm Alien says that: libtetra-1.0.0-2.i386.deb generated But when I check the folder - there is just original .rpm and no .deb. Also - I can see that for a split second there is a .deb file in a folder. so it looks like alien create .deb and deletes it right away. I suspect that it's maybe because I run 64 bit os and package is 32? Can somebody explain why alien deletes .deb automatically? • Why is Google Webmaster Tools crawling invalid URLS and showing 500 errors?

  Google Webmaster tools is reporting 12k+ 500 errors. Eeek! None of the URLS are valid- they all contain www.youtube.com. First, why is Google crawling these URLS if they don't exist? I supplied a sitemap, and they are of course not in the sitemap. I don't have a robots.txt blocking anything. I've checked for invalid redirects--none, and checked for unclosed tags or something that would throw www.youtube.com into the URL by accident--none. In every 'linked from', the referring URL is also a bad URL, with www.youtube.com in it. The Google Tools report no malware, and I can't check the server logs because the host won't give me access. Really stuck!! Any ideas appreciated!

• No inodes left error, df -i command says contrary

  I copied a lot of files in my mounted Windows drive from Ubuntu and I subsequently ran into Error opening file '/media/windows/<some-file-path>': No space left on device error. I have plenty of disk space left - around 500GB. What's the problem then?

• root and home are on seperate partitions, but home still uses up space on root?

  When installing Ubuntu 12.10 for the first time, I made sure /home had it's own partition, gave it about 185GB, and gave root ~10GB. Now root is almost full after a few days and I've noticed that root is as big as /home and some additional MB from some actual root files. Note that I deleted some unused files in /home to make sure it really affects how much space is used in root, and it clearly does.
