• Ubuntu 9.0.4 Presario S4000NX Fan Speed

  I recently install Ubuntu 9.0.4 on a Presario S4000NX and the CPU fan speed is kept at max. With Windows XP installed the fan speed would increase/decrease as required. I've tried to install lm-sensors and run the sensors-detect. It recommended that I load the modules which I did: smsc47m192 i2c-i801 When running sensor-detect it gave me this strange message: Trying family SMSC Found SMSC LPC47M15x/192/997 Super IO Fan Sensors (but not activated) Running the sensors command gives me a list of voltages and CPU and temperature but doesn't list any fans. After doing some Internet research I then tried to load the smsc47m1 module but I get the following error: FATAL: Error inserting smsc47m1 (/lib/modules/2.6.28-15-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/smsc47m1.ko): no such device The file smsc47m1.ko does exist in the listed folder. Any suggestions for getting the fan speed (and the noise) down in Ubuntu? Thanx. - Chris P.S. - I would have put better tags but Server Fault wouldn't let me.

• c#: exporting swf object as image to Word

  Hello in my Asp.net web page (C# on backend) I use a Repeater, whose items consist of a title and a Flex chart (embedded .swf file). I am trying to export the contents of the Repeater to a Word document. My problem is to convert the SWF files into images and pass it on to the Word document. The swf object has a public function which returns a byteArray representation of itself (public function grabScreen():ByteArray), but I do not know how to call it directly from c#. I have access to the mxml files, so I can make modifications to the swf files, if needed.   Hi Everyone, here's a problem that i've run into lately: I have a listview with a custom adapter class, the adapter takes in a listview and populates the listview with elements from it. Now, i'd like to have a button on each row of a listview to remove the item from it. How should i approach this problem? Is there a way to remotely trigger a method in the activity class and call notifydatachanged() method on the adapter to refresh the listview? thanks in advance for your help and some code snippets if possible best regards peter

• FileWatcher fires change event after file deletion

  Hi all, I'm using a FileWatcher to trigger processing of files as soon as they are added to a folder. After the file it is processed it is deleted. My problem is that after the file is deleted I get another file change event which is so close to the deletion than in some cases checking for File.Exists it tells that the file still exists. But of course some milliseconds later when looking to process the file it does not really exists. • Why does [NSOutlineView clickedRow] always return -1?

  I have a fairly pedestrian non-editable NSOutlineView setup. In the bindings for the outline view, I have set the binding to my file's owner (MyDocument FWIW) with a selector of outlineViewWasDoubleClicked The method exists and is called, but when I call -clickedRow it consistently returns -1 rather than the row number of the row that I double clicked to trigger the method. My _outlineView is an IBOutlet and I've verified that it is hooked up correctly by using -selectedRow for the method rather than -clickedRow (I would rather use -clickedRow though because it seems unintuitive for the user to have a row selected, double click another row to do something with it and have the method triggered with the row they had selected.) My best guess right now is that the -clickedRow value is getting cleared out before my method fires, but I don't know where or what might be gobbling it up. Thanks in advance for any help.

• Replace values in a dataframe based on another factor which contains NA's in R

  I have a dataframe which contains (among other things) a numeric column with a concentration, and a factor column with a status flag. This status flag contains NA's. Here's an example df<-structure(list(conc = c(101.769, 1.734, 62.944, 92.697, 25.091, 27.377, 24.343, 55.084, 0.335, 23.280), status = structure(c(NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, NA, 2L, NA, 1L, NA), .Label = c("<LLOQ", "NR"), class = "factor")), .Names = c("conc", "status"), row.names = c(NA, -10L), class = "data.frame") I want to replace the concentration column with a string for some values of the flag column, or with the concentration value formatted to a certain number of significant digits. When I try this ifelse(df$status=="NR","NR",df$conc) The NA's in the status flag don't trigger either the true or false condition (and return NA) - as the documentation suggests it will. I could loop over the rows and use IF then else on each one but this seems inefficient. Am I missing something ? I've tried as.character(df$status) as well which doesn't work. My mojo must be getting low....

Ultimately what I'm trying to achieve is using width & precision specifiers for strings with format. boost::format does not support the use of the * width & precision specifiers, as indicated in the docs: Width or precision set to asterisk (*) are used by printf to read this field from an argument. e.g. printf("%1$d:%2$.*3$d:%4$.*3$d\n", hour, min, precision, sec); This class does not support this mechanism for now. so such precision or width fields are quietly ignored by the parsing. so I'm trying to find other ways to accomplish the same goal. • Nhibernate Criteria Ignore Child Collection

  I have a simple one to many association in my model. The parent class has a collection of children. In the mapping files, the association is a one to many, eager-loaded, using fetchmode.join. This works fine, but how can I write a criteria query but NOT trigger the loading of the child collection? In other words, I want to query the parent and not have it generate the join in the resulting sql. I tried setting the fetch mode to lazy, but in that case Nhibernate generates two separate queries. I don't want the table for child queried at all.

• Windows Server 2012 and Ubuntu 12.04.1 under Hyper-V

  I've set up an instance of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS under Hyper-V 2012. However it seems to be nondeterministic as to whether or not it completes the boot process. I get a Kernel Panic, "IO-APIC + timer doesn't work!", which from my research is caused by not having integration services correctly installed? It was my understanding that the integration services were all now baked into the kernel? It should then be fine to update the OS (including any kernel updates, as I'm guessing that's what has happened) Being able to rely on this successfully booting would be great as I intend on using ssh for crisis situations.

  We are trying to set up some virtual Fibre Channel HBA's in Solaris. This seems to be possible with NPIV. Creating NPIV's in a Solaris global zone works fine, but passing that NPIV to a zone didn't work at all. It should be possible to display the WWN of the virtual HBA and mount the storage presented by the disk subsystem. Any ideas to pass the NPIV to a solaris zone or to virtualise this with vmware?

• Keycodes of function keys with F-lock off?

  Many recent keyboard from Microsoft and Logitech have a so-called F-Lock key, which toggles the function keys F1 to F12 between their traditional keycodes and new meanings that are printed onto the keys: F1=Help F2=Undo F3=Redo F4=Open ... . (See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-Lock.) This means that long-established shortcuts such as Alt+F4 no longer work if the F-lock is off, and googling shows that quite a few people are unhappy about this. So I'm wondering, what virtual key (VK) codes do the function keys send when F-lock is off? VK_F13 to VK_F24 perhaps? Or do they not trigger standard keyboard events at all? (I haven't got such a keyboard to try and find out myself, and didn't manage to dig up anything on MSDN about this.)

• What metric captures why my OSX machine is so slow during XCode indexing

  My entire machine OSX Lion machine slows down while XCode 4.4 is indexing. The CPU is less than 10% busy, I've got over 500 MB free memory, plenty of disk space, disk IO rate is not high, network activity is not high. Indexing just a few files can take minutes and builds are extremely slow. While this is going on, even loading a new web page in Chrome can be slow. Knowing how to fix it would be great, but more fundamentally how can I measure what is actually going slowly? What metrics should I be looking at? Nothing in Activity Monitor, iostat, top, or sar betray anything about what's going on to me. Even getting a man page is interminable.

  I've been testing Hudson for a few days now and for PHP projects it seems ok; What I need though is a system that will allow me to publish an SVN tag to an FTP folder without adding a pile of rubbish on the end; hudson gets overexcited and adds a pile of folders to the export. Are their any other decent systems; it needs to be simple to use as this will eventually fall under the control of 'admins' in order to meet sox compliance (aka the man with the gun cant pull the trigger). • Connect my mac to my external local asp server

  I have pc server running asp that we use locally for our work that we have several PC's connected to it, and all works ok with this and we can run the sites locally ok. But I would also like to connect our mac to this server so we can also then use Dreamweaver on. I can access the server via the mac and Dreamweaver but when I set up a site(s) via DW using the same settings as we do on a PC and then run locally the site fails. • ImagickDraw::setFont has no effect on my system; suggestions?

  Running on Ubuntu LTS 8.04, PHP 5.2.8, ImageMagick 6.6.1-5 installed from source, and Imagick 2.3.0 installed from pecl. ImageMagick's 'convert' command sets fonts properly, and ImagickDraw::setFont properly complains if an invalid path to a font has been specified. However, specifying a valid font has no effect in changing the appearance of the drawn font whatsoever. Also, specifying a valid filename that contains invalid font data fails to trigger an error. It's almost as if Imagick isn't doing anything other than verifying that the specified file exists. Any suggestions?

  When creating an WPF application with the MVVM pattern, it seems I have to gather the necessary tools myself to even begin the most rudimentary event handling, e.g. AttachedBehaviors I get from here DelegateCommands I get from here Now I'm looking for some way to handle the ItemSelected event in a ComboBox and am getting suggestions of tricks and workarounds to do this (using a XAML trigger or have other elements bound to the selected item, etc.). Ok, I can go down this road, but it seems to be reinventing the wheel. It would be nice to just have an ItemSelected command that I can handle in my ViewModel. Am I missing some set of standard tools or is everyone doing MVVM with WPF basically building and putting together their own collection of tools just so they can do the simplest plumbing tasks with events and commands, things that take only a couple lines in code-behind with a Click="eventHandler"?

• Accordion - Expand/Collapse - but first panel is opened and screws it up

  Hey guys, I've got an accordion which has the first panel opened on default by throwing in: $("h4#open").trigger('click'); (which triggers the first panel to act as if the h4 link were clicked, and thus opened...) But this seems to screw up the only way I can think of expanding / collapsing all the panels. I have this code to expand / collapse: $("a.ex-col").click(function(){ $("div.accordion div").slideToggle("slow"); return false; }); When using this, all the panels toggle open and close except any panel that happens to be open (or closed) at the time. How can I keep the default div opened on load, while also expanding / collapsing with the rest of them? Thanks.

• baffling stat pauses - (reiserfs)

  I've got a SuSE server with reiserfs formatted partitions, all on a RAID1 mirror. I'm noticing odd spikes in iowait, but generally all seems okay. iostat claims not even 3% iowait in general: avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle 6.53 0.03 1.45 2.92 0.00 89.07 After tracking down some odd behaviour when ls'ing, it appears "stat" (ls is aliased to include color which does a stat process on each file) randomly takes 5 seconds on a file in the directory. ReiserFS does a file system sync every 5 seconds, but that's interval between not length of time taken to sync. Out of curiosity I did remount using noatime to see if that would help though as it would reduce sync's workload, but no joy. Anyone got any thoughts what might be causing this pause? Disks appear healthy, RAID controller believes the RAID is healthy, and io stats show the disks aren't working very hard at all.

  Using a trigger-based approach to audit logging, I am recording the history of changes made to tables in the database. The approach I'm using (with a static sql server login) to record which user made the change involves running a stored procedure at the outset of each database connection. The triggers use this username when recording the audit rows. (The triggers are provided by the product OmniAudit.) However, the ASP.NET Membership tables are accessed primarily through the Membership API. I need to pass in the current user's identity when the Membership API opens its database connection. I tried subclassing MembershipProvider but I cannot access the underlying database connection. It seems like this would be a common problem. Does anyone know of any hooks we can access when the ASP.NET Membership makes its database connection?

  IDE: STS(Eclipse) Server: Jetty-distribution-8.1.15.v20140411 I have created a SpringsMVC Project using Template available in STS tool(New-Springs Project- Springs MVC Project). I generated a war file(SpringsMVC.war) and placed it in /webapps folder of Jetty server. Now I started Jetty using JRE's 'java' , D:\jetty-distribution-8.1.15.v20140411"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java" -jar start.jar Now when I tried to access my application in browser, it shows the below error; HTTP ERROR 500 Problem accessing /SpringMVCProject1/. Reason: Server Error Caused by: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: PWC6345: There is an error in invoking javac.   Hi, I'm having the following problem: When I got two labels into each other: <Label x:Name="First" MouseUp="Label_MouseUp"> <Label x:Name="Second" MouseUp="Label_MouseUp_1">This is a label into another label</Label> </Label> And the following code: private void Label_MouseUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine("Do NOT show me"); } private void Label_MouseUp_1(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine("Show me"); } When i click "Second", I want it to trigger only "Label_MouseUp_1". But in my console i get: Show me Do NOT show me Is there a way to turn off the bubbling events? (also, "First" has to be clickable, so removing the event there doesn't solve the problem) Thnx
