  • Which is the most memory leak safe approach.

    I have a table of frequently updated information. This is presented using a container div with a div for each row, each row containing 10 divs. I am using setInterval to call a an asmx webservice that returns some json formatted information. On the success callback I call $("#myContainer").empty(); on the container div and recreate the rows and 10 nested divs for each row's columns. This page may be left to run for a whole day, so I am wary of updating the DOM like this as I have noticed that memory does rise for the browser over time (IE8). The other approach I am considering is to add an idea to the row div. When new results process each item of data, look for the corresponding row, if it exists overwrite the data in each div. If it doesn't exist (new data for example), append the row. What approaches have others used for this sort of long lived pseudo realtime information display. TIA

  • Parsing a complicated array with GetJSON Jquery

    TLDR: Started with this question simplified it after got some of it working and continuing it here. I need to 'GET' the JSON array Format it correctly and for each within the array place it in the corresponding DIV. ?? It works. This is a followup from this question to simplify and continue. I need to some complicated JSON data from an array. With it I need the title and it's value. The reason why I am doing this is because I will know what the array is called but not the data that is being generated inside it. Lets say this new array looks as follows: {"Days": ["Sunday":"10.00", "Monday":"12.00", "Tuesday":"09.00", "Wednesday":"10.00", "Thursday":"02.00", "Friday":"05.00", "Saturday":"08.00"] } I would need it to get Sunday & 10.00 as well as the same for all of the others. My code to parse this at the moment is as follows: $.getJSON(url, function(data){ $.each(data, function(i,item){ $('.testfield').append('<p>' + item + '</p>'); }); }); Without the added times on each date it will parse the data as follows: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday With the times added to the days in the array Firebug no longer recognizes it as a JSON string. So I am guessing I have formatted something wrong here. Also, I need each day & time to be on a new line I thought that $('.testfield').append('<p>' + item + '</p>' + '<br />'); Would have applied each one to a new line but that did not work. How do I get each day or item to be on a new line? How do I get the $getjson to parse the data correctly day and its value, into a div?

  • A stupid question regarding google gadgets. How to host a google gadget? How it works?

    Hi, I spent 5 hours by checking google gadgets websites and FAQs. maybe I am really stupid. I have no idea how to host a gadget. What I knew from reading the google website: 1, I can write gadget with xml, javascript etc.. 2, gadget can be added to igoogle etc.. 3, google can host the gadget for you. 4, gadget can be hosted at anywhere??? All of the above information doesn't answer my question. For instance, with jQuery or Dojo Toolkit, I can download the javascript framework and use it. With google gadget, I can not find a download link for the framework. Why? Does google provide its framework? If no, why does google website say it can be hosted anywhere? I am totally confused. A download link is nowhere in google-gadget website. A brief explanation or some helpful links are very welcome!! Thanks a lot!!! Please don't blame me if you think this question is too silly.

    I am building an ASP.NET server control which extends CompositeControl. I need fine grained control over the rendering, so I override Render() and output the child controls myself, interspersed with HTML generation code: writer.AddStyleAttribute("float", "left"); writer.RenderBeginTag(System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriterTag.Div); writer.RenderBeginTag(System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriterTag.Strong); writer.Write("Table"); writer.RenderEndTag(); // strong writer.WriteBreak(); tableList.RenderControl(writer); writer.RenderEndTag(); // div This works really well for user controls that just contain simple controls without children of their own. However, if I want to use something like a MultiView or an UpdatePanel I run into problems, since I can't override Render() on View or UpdatePanel without extending them, and if I do extend them the implementation would presumably have to depend on FindControl() voodoo to get references to the right controls during render. That doesn't sound like the right way to do this - is there a better way?

  • JQuery Passing Variable From href to load()

    I am trying to pass an href id to load() in JQuery, I can see from the alert the returned id# 960, so I know the id value is getting past I just don't know how to append the load url, well the $("#refreshme_"+add_id) is the important part, I use that to refresh the unique div id in the page assigned by the database pull, so it would be looking for id="refreshme_960". My simple example that is obviously not working. I want to refresh the db select part of the page showing the new list of cars. Is there any cross-browser-compatible, in-browser technology that allows a high-performance perstistent network connection between a server application and a client written in, say, Javascript? Think XmlHttpRequest on caffeine. I am working on a visualisation system that's restricted to at most a few users at once, and the server is pretty robust, so it can handle as much as it needs to. I would like to allow the client to have access to video streamed from the server at a minimum of about 20 frames per second, regardless of what their graphics hardware capabilities are. Simply put: is this doable without resorting to Flash or Java?

So i would like to hear an architectural advice on connecting these sites into a single community. These sites include: 1. Invision Power Board Forum (the most important site) 2. 3 custom made cms-s (changes to code allowable) 3. 1 drupal site 4. 3-4 wordpress blogs Requirements are as follows: 1. Connecting all users of all sites into a single administrable entity. With permissions changing ability, users banning etc. 2. Later on, based on this implementation I have to implement "facebook like" chat, which will be available to all users regardless of place of login. I observe that non-intrusive, transparent to visitor spam prevention techniques (like context-based filtering or honey traps) are frequently called non-captcha. Is it correct understanding of term CAPTCHA which is "type of challenge-response [ 2 ]test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a compute" [ 1 ] and challenge-response does not seem to imply obligatory human involvement. So, which understanding (definition) of term and classification I'd better to stick with? How would I better call CAPTCHA without direct human interaction in order to avoid ambiguity and confusion of terms understnding? How would I better (succinctly and unambiguously) coin the term for captchas requiring human interaction but without typing into textbox? How would I better (succinctly and unambiguously) coin the terms to mark the difference between human interaction with images (playing, drag&dropping, rearranging, clicking with images) vs. just recognizing them (and then typing into a textbox the answer without interaction with images)? PS. The problem is that recognition of a wiggled word in an image or typing the answer to question is also interaction and when I start to use the terms "interaction", "interactive", "captcha", "protection", "non-captcha", "non-interactive", "static", "dynamic", "visible", "hidden" the terms overlap ambiguously with which another (especailly because the definitions or their actual practice of usage are vague or contradictive).   • Can I refresh a Yii CGridView from js?

    When a "Create" modal dialog is submitted via XHR Then the rows in a Yii CGridView should be refreshed. I've tried to achieve this by rendering the new gridview in the XHR "create" action and then inserting it into the page via $("#list").html(response), but rendering a CGridView causes jQuery <script> include tags to be registered for inclusion, and so when I introduce those tags into the page they reload jQuery, which wipes out my live event handlers, so a bunch of stuff breaks. Which has me thinking, "the GridView knows how to refresh itself. heck, it does all the time on sort or page." So I can click a sort button in the GridView from js, but thats less than Ideal. I'd prefer to say $("#list").gridview('reload') or $.fn.gridview.reload("#list") or some such sense. Or do the way cool thing that is soo much simpler that you thought of just now.

    I am using Telerik controls in my webforms and want to serialize object on the client. Since I am getting a stackoverflow error with Sys.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.deserialize I wanted to try JSON. With both JSON and and the MS library I get "Sys.Application is undefined." Has anyone encountered this what did you do as a work around? EDIT I am serializing my object on a parent page and passing them via an argument to a child window. The child window is in an IFRAME tag. The object can be used in the child page, but I receive the stackoverflow error when I serialize it. The object is an Array of objects.

I been reading and it's not that hard to use it BUT what I can not figure out and find any thing on is how to work with one object, all the examples I find are a list of objects. My situation is I need to work with one object only. How can I do that?   • if cookies are disabled, does asp.net store the cookie as a session cookie instead or not?

    basically, if cookeis are disabled on the client, im wondering if this... dim newCookie = New HttpCookie("cookieName", "cookieValue") newCookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1) response.cookies.add(newCookie) notice i set a date, so it should be stored on disk, if cookies are disabled does asp.net automatically store this cookie as a session cookie (which is a cookie that lasts in browser memory until the user closes the browser, if i am not mistaken).... OR does asp.net not add the cookie at all (anywhere) in which case i would have to re-add the cookie to the collection without the date (which stores as a session cookie)... of course, this would require me doing the addition of a cookie twice... perhaps the second time unnecessarily if it is being stored in browsers memory anyway... im just trying not to store it twice as it's just bad code!! any ideas if i need to write another line or not? (which would be)... response.cookies.add(New HttpCookie("cookieName", "cookieValue") ' session cookie in client browser memory thanks guys

  • Empty POST from jQuery UI Dialog to PHP function with $.post

    Hello, I am having hell of a time trying to figure this one out. Maybe someone can help me here or point me in the right direction. I have a jQuery UI dialog that pops up when user clicks on an image. The dialog displays a form with 2 drop down windows. "dept" and "group". Group drop down is disabled, until something is selected in the "dept" dropdown menu. When user selects a department, I do a POST to php function and then enable and populate the group drop down. Simple enough... <select name="dept" id="dept_select" onchange="getDeptGroups(this.value);"> // Some data here </select> JS function: function getDeptGroups(dept) { // This alert works and displays department name. //alert(dept); $.post("/am/ldap/getDepartmentGroups.php", { department: dept }, function(data){ alert(data); }); } and finally in php page i just do <? print_r($_POST); ?> and end up with empty array. Array ( ) This happens in both, Chrome and Firefox, however, FireBug clearly shows post data being submitted: What am i doing wrong here?

When I click the checkbox to change the panel, the panel just disappears instantly and the new one appears instantly, but I want it to be animated as if I clicked the headers. Is there a way to cause the animation to happen when force changing the visible panel?
