  • Windows 2003 IIS FTP Server Migration w/ User Accounts

    I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate an FTP server from old hardware to new hardware. The server is on a domain, but not all the users setup on the server (to use FTP) are domain accounts, some are local to the server. For example, I have users both ways: domain\username machinename\username The new machine name will be different. So I need to copy all the files with permissions in tact from the old server to the new server. Then I need to convert all the user accounts from the old server to the new server. Then I need to change the file permissions so that they are no longer oldserver\username but newserver\username. Can this be accomplished all with CALCS? Is there an easy way that perhaps I'm missing?

  • LAMP stack security question - uploading files to server

    I am running Ubuntu 9.10 desktop on my home machine. I need to upload files from my local machine, to my web server, on a periodic basis. My server is running Ubuntu Server LTS. I want my server to be secure, and only run the LAMP stack and possibly, an email server. I do not (ideally) want to have FTP or anything that can allow (more) knowledgeable hackers to be able to hack into my server. Can anyone recommend how I may send files from my local machine to the server? This may seem an easy/trivial question, but I am relatively new to Linux - and I got my previous Windows server machine serious hacked in the past, hence the move to Linux, and thats why I am so security conscious.

  • How do I objectively measure an application's load on a server

    All, I'm not even sure where to begin looking for resources to answer my question, and I realize that speculation about this kind of thing is highly subjective. I need help determining what class of server I should purchase to host a MS Silverlight application with a MSSQL server back-end on a Windows Server 2008 platform. It's an interactive program, so I can't simply generate a list of URLs to test against, and run it with 1000 simultaneous users. What tools are out there to help me determine what kind of load the application will put on a server at varying levels of concurrent users? Would you all suggest separating the SQL server form the web server, to better differentiate the generated load on the different parts of the stack?

  • Multiple PXE server same subnet

    I've been struggling with this for some time. I have a few test machines that boot from the network, they receive the boot data from the DHCP server, this tells them who is the boot server where is the file they'll boot etc. However, I need to add a second PXE server in the same subnet (create another Vlan is not an option right now). I read somewhere that I may be able to send certain parameters to certain machines based on their MAC address (this way choosing what computers boot from what server) however I cannot find how to do this, anyone knows how? this will be my solution but I cannot find the answer. My DHCP is a windows server 2003 I have 2 servers running custom flavors of Linux server as TFTP servers. Some machines use data to boot from server 1, and the others must bu able to boot from server 2. Thx

  • Login problems on SQL EXPRESS using a user

    Hello Serverfault. First time I set up a SQL server, so I hope you can help me out. I have a problem regarding logging in using SQL auth on my SQL EXPRESS 2008. I have added a user though the management interface as you can see on the image below. But as soon as I try to login using SQL auth I get an error the login failed for the user. The server log says: Login failed for user 'zebisgaard'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. [CLIENT: <named pipe>] Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5. Do you have an idea why? I have triple checked that the username/password is correct, tried to recreate the user and so much more. And all this is localhost.

We're trying to determine if Server 2008 Web Edition supports being a print server, however the comparison chart I found here only mentions Internet Print Client. Unfortunately I work at a software company, so no one knows, and Microsoft's feature comparison isn't being incredibly helpful. If Web Edition does not support Print Server, what is the recommended edition for a Web and Print server machine?

    While establishing mirroring without witness at last step i am getting an error: One or more of the server network addresses lacks a fully qualified domain name (FDQN). To start mirroring without using a FQDN, click "yes". To specify the FDQN, click "no". Then specify every TCP address by using the syntax for a fully qualified TCP address, and click Start mirroring again. TCP/IP are in enabled mode in Computer management. How to rectifity this error?

    I need help installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition.I really need to remove the current SQL Server 2005.installation that is no longer on my Add/Remove software list but yet still installed on the machine. I tried to uninstall SQL Server Express / Developer Edition but it only removed it from my Add/Remove software list. It returned immediately but did NOT actually remove the product. (I'm now in a bad state.) i tried to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and its says I'm blocked as all components are already installed - but they are not. How can I remove all instance of previous one and install clean Enterprise edition on my server Thanks

    I want a Server 2008R2 (x64) to act as DNLA-Server. I remember I tried this with a Server 2008 about two years ago and this was only possible with some ugly hacks. Is it on Server 2008R2 now possible to enable Windows MediaPlayer Media-Sharing by installing the desktop experience packet? Has someone already experience on this. Or is there another possibility to allow media sharing on a Server 2008R2 "the designated way"? I remember that on Server 2008 the way was to install the old MediaConnect-Pacakge. But I hesitate to install such a component on a server. Anciently I installed VirtualServer with Vista and enabled the media server there in, but this seems to me somewhat overkill for such a simple task.

    Hi I have a domain controller that I have installed active directory onto and have set up an account that I want to use for my SQL server installation on another computer that is linked onto the domain. I can search for the account in active directory and I am able to select it into the add new user section in MSSMS, however, when I click add I get 'Windows NT user or group 'DOMAIN\user' not found. Check the name again. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15401) I have googled the Error code and I havent found a solution that has fixed the error. If you have any help I would be greatful Thanks :)

    We're setting up two clusters. One dev and one prod. The Production will host two SQL instances - a OLTP and a DW. The development will host 4 OLTP non-production environments and at least one DW non-production. We're working on getting more DW non-prods and possibly more OLTP systems. I'm considering a naming scheme like this, where PROJ would be 3 initials for the project name. Dev Cluster MSSQLPROJD1\D1 (DEV) MSSQLPROJD2\D2 (TEST) MSSQLPROJD3\D3 (QA) MSSQLPROJD4\D4 (STAGE) MSSQLPROJD5\D5 (DW) Prd Cluster MSSQLPROJP1\P1 (PRD) MSSQLPROJP2\P2 (DW) To the left of the slash, each name must be unique network wide. On each server, the instance name, to the right of the slash, must be unique. Any thoughts on this? I'm trying to avoid having instance names drifting from reality as the project progresses - say we change what we call a certain environment or want to repurpose one. Then we can update a listing of the purposes for the instances and be done with it. How has a scheme like this worked out for you? Maybe you do things another way in your shop - tell me about it.   • Cloning a WebCenter Portal Managed Server

    I had to run some tests on a WebCenter Portal application deployed in a cluster. I've got a development VM with WebCenter PS4 (this also works on PS5) and I was trying to figure out how could I easily add a new managed server to my single-node domain, and make it a cluster. Creating the machine and cluster are a piece of cake, you can do it pretty quick through WLS Console. Now, you'd guess that using the clone option on WLS Console would do the magic of cloning an existing instance, right? Well, it does, but all you get is an "empty" managed server: with no target libraries.  It was a good surprise to find that WebCenter provides a way of cloning an existing WebCenter Portal managed server through a simple WLST command: cloneWebCenterManagedServer  This is a screenshot of my starting point. I want to clone WC_CustomPortal managed server: These are the steps to clone my WC_CustomPortal managed server: 1. In the command line, invoke WLST. It should be on <ORACLE_HOME_for_component>/common/bin/wlst.sh. In my case, it is ./product/Middleware/WebCenterPortal/common/bin/wlst.sh 2. Connect to the Admin Server:  connect ('<wls_admin_username>','<password>','t3://<server>:<port>') 3.     My buddy Sutha Thiru sent me an email recently asking about my opinion on a particular nuance of the project deployment model in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 2012 and I’d like to share my response as I think it warrants a wider discussion. For example if we have following scenrio how do we do deploy? Sprint 1 Pkg1, 2 & 3 has been developed and deployed to UAT. Once signed off its been deployed to Live. Sprint 2 Pkg 4 & 5 been developed. During this time users raised a bug on Pkg2. We want to make the change to Pkg2 and deploy that to UAT and eventually to LIVE without releasing Pkg 4 &5. How do we do it? I steadfastly believe that there should not be a way for an unscrupulous developer to slide in a new version of a package under the covers. Deploying .ispac files brings a degree of rigour to your operational processes. Yes, that means that we as SSIS developers are going to have to get better at using source control and branching properly but that is no bad thing in my opinion. Claiming to be proper "developers" is a bit of a cheap claim if we don't even do the fundamentals correctly. I would be interested in the thoughts of others who have used the project deployment model. Do you agree with my point of view? @Jamiet

    The CTRL key, which stands for ConTRoL…aw, the good ole days What keyboard shortcuts should EVERY Oracle SQL Developer user know? How do you find new shortcuts to master, and how do you change them to match ones you’ve already learned in other tools? These are the driving questions for today’s post. While some of us may be keyboard ninjas, and others are more driven to use the mouse – everyone has probably picked up a few strategic keyboard shortcuts over the years. For example, I’ve personally JUST memorized the Cmd-Shift-4 ‘trick’ in Mac OS X. And of course we all know what F1 does, right? Right?!? Here are a few more keyboard shortcuts to commit to memory. My Favorite SQL Developer Shortcuts ctrl-enter : executes the current statement(s) F5 : executes the current code as a script (think SQL*Plus) ctrl-space : invokes code insight on demand Code Editor – Completion Insight – Enable Completion Auto-Popup (Keyword being Auto) ctrl-Up/Dn : replaces worksheet with previous/next SQL from SQL History ctrl-shift+Up/Dn : same as above but appends instead of replaces shift+F4 : opens a Describe window for current object at cursor ctrl+F7 : format SQL ctrl+/ : toggles line commenting ctrl+e : incremental search Configuring Keyboard Shortcuts in SQL Developer Tools Preferences Shortcut Keys Search by command name OR the keystroke itself Some tips… Sort by category Pay special attention to the ‘Code Editor’ and ‘Other’ categories Mind the conflicts when you change the defaults Be nice – share!   • VS2008 adding SQL Server Database (SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio) not working

    I'm trying to practice using the ASP.Net MVC at home, but I ran into an impossible problem. I cannot open a connection to SQL Server 2008, I get this error: "Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. ..." I've googled around for numerous responses, none of them either working or addressing this issue. I'm running Vista 32bit, my SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio is also 32bit, I have SP1 installed both on VS2008 Professional, as well as the SQL Server. I changed the machine.config connectionStrings from ./SQLExpress to my SQL Server 2008 name. Now if I connect manually through web.config, in an asp:datasource or code-behind, everything works fine. But for some reason trying to add a DB Connection directly like this always gets the error. This is pretty fatal, since I can't rightly do much unless I can use LINQ to SQL with my MVC test project, and this is the only way I know how. Worked fine in school and work, but not at home. Installing SQL Server Express 2005, as some have suggested, is not an option. Obviously it HAS to work with SQL Server 2008. Thanks in advance.

  • Tables are not visible in SQL Server Management Studio but they are in Visual Studio using same acco

    I'm experiencing a weird problem with a particular SQL login. When I connect to the server in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (2008) using this account, I cannot see any of the tables, stored procedures etc. that this account should have access to. When I connect to the same server within Visual Studio (2008) with the same account everything is there. I've also had a co-worker connect to the server using the same login and he's able to view everything as well. The strange thing is if I switch logins, I'm able to view objects that the other account has access to which indicates that there isn't a problem with MSSMS on my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can diagnose this problem? I've check to make sure I don't have any Table filters etc.

    When trying to install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2008 instance that is running on a virtual machine, the installer will start:   But then after about 20 seconds I receive the following error message: TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. ----------------------------- SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created. ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Searching for this issue I found that several people have the same problem and there is no clear solution.  Some had success with closing windows or Internet Explorer but that didn’t work for me; what did work is to make sure the SQL Server 2008 “Please wait while SQL Server 2008 Setup processes the current operation.” dialog is selected and has the focus when it first shows up.  Selected (with the current focus) it looks like this:   Without focus the dialog looks like this: Add a comment if you find out any information about how to consistently get around this issue or why it is happening in the first place.

I have had a look through google but I've noticed some of the blog posts are missing things which I have found through my own testing: For example, quite a lot is summarised in this blog entry http://www.keepitsimpleandfast.com/2009/12/main-differences-between-sql-azure-and.html Common Language Runtime (CLR) Database file placement Database mirroring Distributed queries Distributed transactions Filegroup management Global temporary tables Spatial data and indexes SQL Server configuration options SQL Server Service Broker System tables Trace Flags which is a repeat of the MSDN page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff394115.aspx I've noticed from my own testing that the following seem to have issues when migrating from SQL Server 2008 to the Azure: XML Types (the msdn does mention large custom types - I guess it may include this?? even if the data schema is really small?) Multi-part views I've been using SQL Azure Migration Wizard v3.1.8 to migrate local databases into the cloud. I was wondering if anyone could point to a list or give me any information till when these features are likely to be included in SQL Azure.

  • Standard -server to server- and -browser to server- authentication method

    I have server with some resources; until now all these resources were requested through a browser by a human user, and the authentication was made with an username/password method, that generates a cookie with a token (to have the session open for some time). Right now the system requires that other servers make GET requests to this resource server but they have to authenticate to get them. We have been using a list of authorized IPs but having two authentication methods makes the code more complex. My questions are: Is there any standard method or pattern to authenticate human users and servers using the same code? If there is not, are the methods I'm using now the right ones or is there a better / more standard way to accomplish what I need? Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
