    Hi, I'm refactoring some specs, in controller specs I have a before(:each) which sets up things required in the session my before filter is... config.before(:each, :type => :controller) do ... session[:current_user] = @user session[:instance] = @instance ... end @user and @instance are also set in the before(:each) i've just hidden them for readability here I get the following error when running the controller tests undefined method `session' for nil:NilClass I would expect the global before callbacks to have the same things as the ones in the individual tests but I guess maybe they are loaded before the rails environment has been initialised?     First, I wanna compare between 2 tables tb_wrapper and tb_summary to get the data in the tb_wrapper that doesn't exist in the tb_summary then save in $link. If I don't get the same data, I want to print the result $link. When I don't get the not same data, I want it to go to another process. I now need to dynamically reference a name in the resouce file. assume I have a resource file called Login.resx, an a number of strings: foo="hello", bar="cruel" and baz="world" normally, I will refer as: String result =Login.foo; and result=="hello"; my problem is, that at code time, I do not know if I want to refer to foo, bar or baz - I have a string that contains either "foo", "bar" or "baz". I need something like: Login["foo"]; Does anyone know if there is any way to dynamically reference a string in a resource file?

  • When to use pointer to a class and when to just instantiate it as a variable

    Im sort of confused by it. The best I could find was reading through the cplusplus.com tutorial and all they have to say about pointers to classes. "It is perfectly valid to create pointers that point to classes. We simply have to consider that once declared, a class becomes a valid type, so we can use the class name as the type for the pointer" Which tells me nothing about when to use them over the normal instantiation. I've seen the - operator many times, and looked at some codes but cant really decipher why they did it. Generic examples will be appreciated; but more specifically related to gui programming. Its where I encountered it first. But i would like to have the same i as in my <a> tag. What is the best way to handle this? I could put i in the data() of the <a> tag for example but i am sure there is a easier way.

    Been trying to decide between using CodeMirror or Ace editor. I've been leaning towards CodeMirror, however there's one feature of Ace that I really like and that is how it does syntax validation. So as I'm typing there can appear a warning or error icon in the left gutter area beside the line number, and when I hover over it it gives me a little description. Is there any way to get this functionality in CodeMirror? Specifically, I'm using the css mode for CodeMirror. It'd also be nice to be able to add in my own custom validation. Thanks.

    Hello, heres basically what I need to get done. I have a jsp page which allows me to add/modify/delete an item. The items are stored in a database which I have controller classes to access(dont worry bout that part) When an item gets selected and deleted the id of the item gets sent to the controller to be processed. The item will not always be deleted if their is a foreign key constraint so I send either a delete=true or delete=false through url back to the jsp page. I would like to have it so a javascript function gets called displaying an alert saying the item was deleted or the item was not deleted. can someone please tell me the best way to do this? thank you

  • Dynamic Data Extract Tools

    I've been searching around for a few weeks now for a tool that either is fully built or a direction of something I could build for dynamically extracting data via a web interface. Basically, what I'm looking for is a way to give users a list of all available data objects from our database and then let them pick ones from the list they'd like to view and set parameters then export the results to an excel file. Right now we're doing it purely with SQL statements but we have hundreds of objects so as you might imagine, those statements are really complex and prone to errors. It would be great if there was a tool available to do this or if someone had an idea of an easy way to organize this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've looked at BI tools like QlikView and Tableau but that is probably overkill for what we're trying to do. The open-source BI tools we've looked at seemed really primitive in their functionality. The other thing we looked at was MSAS (our DB is SQL Server) but I'd prefer something that was more database-agnostic and lived on a web server instead of on the database.

    I am constructing a lighbox gallery, currently experimenting with FancyBox (http://fancybox.net) and ColorBox (http://colorpowered.com/colorbox). By default you have to include a link to the large version of the image so that the Lightbox can display it. However, I am wanting to have the image link URLs pointing to a script rather than directly to the image file. So for example, instead of: <a href="mysite/images/myimage.jpg"> I want to do: <a href="mysite/photos/view/abc123"> The above URL points to a function: public function actionPhotos($view) { $photo=Photo::model()->find('name=:name', array(':name'=>$view)); if(!empty($photo)) { $user=$photo->user; $this->renderPartial('_photo', array('user'=>$user, 'photo'=>$photo, true)); } } At some point in the future the function will also update the view count of the image. Now this approach is working to an extent - most images load up but some do not load up (the lightbox gets displayed in a malformed state). I think the reason for this is because it is not processing the function quick enough. For example when I click the "next" button it needs to go to the URL, process the function and retreive/output the response. Does anybody know how I can get this working properly?
