• Real Time Monitoring System using .net [closed]

  I need to develop the application which display the dashboard where data from various SQL DB is fetched from different servers and displayed. Now this need to happen real time we can have refresh time say 5 min. Here is my thought, suggest if anything is wrong. 1) To Develop the Windows Service to accumulate the data from various SQL Server Instance. 2) Then Persist those details into SQL DB from which Dashboard will displayed on the web page. 3) Fetch of data from Windows service will be trigger every x minutes. 4) SQL Server Instance details will be stored in SQL DB which Windows Service will be referring. Thus this approach make sense. Thanks..

• Game testing on Android - emulator or real devices?

  I am working at a localization agency and we have been approached by a client about testing their games on iOS as well as Android. Testing on iOS seems fairly easy as we can just buy a couple of devices and we should be covered. For Android it seems to be completely different. From what i found, the emulator can cover all API levels, screen sizes and such, but i hear it's buggy and nothing could replace testing on real devices. With the vast amount of Android devices out there and the rate at which new devices are released it seems impossible to keep up. How can i test games (localization and functional) on Android covering all compatible devices?

  Is there a suitable software or a good tutorial for creating 2D rooms/scenery for adventure games from real photos? Is it possible to achieve good results by using photos, or the hand-drawn style will always be the best choice? Thank you! --- EDIT --- I want to clarify that I'm particularly interested in the art creation process, not on the environment in which to build games. I'm writing the game in Java for Android, but I don't think it matters. Also, I'm not trying to decide if the game will have photo realistic rooms or not - I want to achieve 2d pixelated, old-school style background scenes and I wonder if this can be made from photos, because I cannot draw them myself. For example, can I shoot a scene with my camera and then make it look something like the image in the following link: PIXEL ART FOREST I know that I cannot get the same quality as an absolutely hand-drawn pixel, but I'm looking for some decent technology/tutorial/software to make them somewhat similar.

During a set of morning sessions, I presented on some of the new things that we've done in Oracle Solaris 11 and our focus for the future. One of the sessions I presented was giving a quick technical overview of what a typical application deployment scenario would look like using technologies like the Image Packaging System (IPS), Service Management Facility (SMF), Oracle Solaris Zones, and network virtualization. While it's just a simple example, it provides the basic building blocks for a more advanced configuration that a data center would typically deploy. Given these would likely be of general interest, I thought I'd upload the slides for others to view - enjoy! • Is it okay for an application to check for automatic updates in less than 20 hour interval?

  I have a desktop application that has the ability to automatically update itself on the next restart (without the user's consent - but this is another issue altogether). Assuming that the user would never notice anything related to application updating (such as a progress bar, or pop-up requiring restart), and that our server would support the request spam load, is there any reason why it should not check for updates in less than 20 hour interval? The reason I'm asking this is because all applications that I know that have auto-update capability check for update every 20 to 24 hours and at startup. I was just wondering if there was an ethical rule about it, or simply because of the risk of overloading the server.

  I have an animation of traffic. I have 20 cars in road network, each car have a starting node and end node. Each car know how much distance does it need to travel in order to reach the end node. I move cars each 20 ms for 10 px. To move all cars from their start node to end node I need 60 iterations. That is 60*20ms = 1200ms. Now I want to convert this time, or use data that I have, to a real time where car move 50km/h. How can I do that? Any idea?
