But after thinking about it for a while I didn't find a way I can use beyond-trivial math in my pet projects.. Or probably it is a moment like "You are not aware that you are not aware" and I should learn more math before I can start to see great examples of how I can apply it?

I know this isn't possible because of the duplicate url-pattern values.   • Automatic music rating based on listening habits

    I've created a Winamp-like music player in Delphi. Not so complex, of course. Just a simple one. But now I would like to add a more complex feature: Songs in the library should be automatically rated based on the user's listening habits. This means: The application should "understand" if the user likes a song or not. And not only whether he/she likes it but also how much. My approach so far (data which could be used): Simply measure how often a song was played per time. Start counting time when the song was added to the library so that recent songs don't have any disadvantage. Measure how long a song was played on average (minutes). Starting a song but directly change to another one should have a bad influence on the ranking since the user didn't seem to like the song. ... Could you please help me with this problem? I would just like to have some ideas. I don't need the implementation in Delphi.

  • The Immerman-Szelepcsenyi Theorem

    In the Immerman-Szelepcsenyi Theorem, two algorithms are specified that use non-determinisim. There is a rather lengthy algorithm using "inductive counting", which determines the number of reachable configurations for a given non-deterministic turing machine. The algorithm looks like this: Let m_{i+1}=0 For all configurations C Let b=0, r=0 For all configurations D Guess a path from I to D in at most i steps If found Let r=r+1 If D=C or D goes to C in 1 step Let b=1 If r<m_i halt and reject Let m_{i+1}=m_{i+1}+b I is the starting configuration. m_i is the number of configurations reachable from the starting configuration in i steps. This algorithm only calculates the "next step", i.e. m_i+1 from m_i. This seems pretty reasonable, but since we have nondeterminisim, why don't we just write: Let m_i = 0 For all configurations C Guess a path from I to C in at most i steps If found m_i = m_i + 1 What is wrong with this algorithm? I am using nondeterminism to guess a path from I to C, and I verify reachability I am iterating through the list of ALL configurations, so I am sure to not miss any configuration I respect space bounds I can generate a certificate (the list of reachable configs) I believe I have a misunderstanding of the "power" of non-determinisim, but I can't figure out where to look next. I am stuck on this for quite a while and I would really appreciate any help.

    I've never used SOAP before and I'm sort of new to Python. I'm doing this to get myself acquainted with both technologies. I've installed SOAPlib and I've tried to read their Client documentation, but I don't understand it too well. Is there anything else I can look into which is more suited for being a SOAP Client library for Python? Edit: Just in case it helps, I'm using Python 2.6.

Mostly I want to remove few 'fixed' lines which are always present in email body. Do I need to run some sort of PHP process to do it? Is it possible to do it on email server itself?     Hi, lets say I have a script like that: if(some condition) begin select somecolumn from sometable end Lets say, that "somecolumn" does not exist and the condition is not true, which means the select is NOT executed. Even though the select would not be executed, the script is not valid, Management Studio complains about the missing column "somecolumn". Question: Can I somehow disable this sort of check so that the script is executed and since the if is not true, it will never notice that the column is missing? Thanks :-)

The update, which I assume would be some sort of setup package type program, would need to be able to do the following: access the file system and registry to determine where files should be copied to supply the files to be copied provide strong security so the data files cannot be downloaded or used by the wrong people What would be best way to achieve all of the above?

  • Finder conceals network connections from lsof?

    If I use the Finder's Go-Connect to Server and connect to an smb/afs, I can see the connection in netstat. But I can't see it in lsof. I also use LittleSnitch, and it fails to detect outbound connections from the Finder. Why is this? Is there some sort of "Apple rootkit" that i'm not aware of?

    If i have DataGrid which looks like: Col 1 Col 2 ------- ------- 1 a 2 b 3 c ... ... n n Can the order be reversed easily without sorting? So that n is first, and 1 is last. I have custom sort implemented from this article, but sorting the same column twice in a row calls sorting function twice (which is slow), so just reversing the order should be faster and have the same effect.
