  • Why does every thread in my application use a different hibernate session?

    - by Ittai
    Hi, I have a web-application which uses hibernate and for some reason every thread (httprequest or other threads related to queueing) uses a different session. I've implemented a HibernateSessionFactory class which looks like this: public class HibernateSessionFactory { private static final ThreadLocal<Session> threadLocal = new ThreadLocal<Session>(); private static Configuration configuration = new AnnotationConfiguration(); private static org.hibernate.SessionFactory sessionFactory; static { try { configuration.configure(configFile); sessionFactory = configuration.buildSessionFactory(); } catch (Exception e) {} } private HibernateSessionFactory() {} public static Session getSession() throws HibernateException { Session session = (Session) threadLocal.get(); if (session == null || !session.isOpen()) { if (sessionFactory == null) { rebuildSessionFactory();//This method basically does what the static init block does } session = (sessionFactory != null) ? sessionFactory.openSession(): null; threadLocal.set(session); } return session; } //More non relevant methods here. Now from my testing it seems that the threadLocal member is indeed initialized only once when the class is first loaded by the JVM but for some reason when different threads access the getSession() method they use different sessions. When a thread first accesses this class (Session) threadLocal.get(); will return null but as expected all other access requests will yeild the same session. I'm not sure how this can be happening as the threadLocal variable is final and the method threadLocal.set(session) is only used in the above context (which I'm 99.9% sure has to yeild a non null session as I would have encountered a NullPointerException at a different part of my app). I'm not sure this is relevant but these are the main parts of my hibernate.cfg.xml file: <hibernate-configuration> <session-factory> <property name="connection.url">someURL</property> <property name="connection.driver_class"> com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</property> <property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.SQLServerDialect</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.isolation">1</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.username">User</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.password">Password</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.pool_size">10</property> <property name="show_sql">false</property> <property name="current_session_context_class">thread</property> <property name="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto">update</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_second_level_cache">false</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class">org.hibernate.cache.NoCacheProvider</property> <!-- Mapping files --> I'd appreciate any help granted and of course if anyone has any questions I'd be happy to clarify. • Android Camera takePicture function does not call Callback function

    - by Tomáš 'Guns Blazing' Frcek
    I am working on a custom Camera activity for my application. I was following the instruction from the Android Developers site here: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html Everything seems to works fine, except the Callback function is not called and the picture is not saved. Here is my code: public class CameraActivity extends Activity { private Camera mCamera; private CameraPreview mPreview; private static final String TAG = "CameraActivity"; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.camera); // Create an instance of Camera mCamera = getCameraInstance(); // Create our Preview view and set it as the content of our activity. mPreview = new CameraPreview(this, mCamera); FrameLayout preview = (FrameLayout) findViewById(R.id.camera_preview); preview.addView(mPreview); Button captureButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button_capture); captureButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Log.v(TAG, "will now take picture"); mCamera.takePicture(null, null, mPicture); Log.v(TAG, "will now release camera"); mCamera.release(); Log.v(TAG, "will now call finish()"); finish(); } }); } private PictureCallback mPicture = new PictureCallback() { @Override public void onPictureTaken(byte[] data, Camera camera) { Log.v(TAG, "Getting output media file"); File pictureFile = getOutputMediaFile(); if (pictureFile == null) { Log.v(TAG, "Error creating output file"); return; } try { FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(pictureFile); fos.write(data); fos.close(); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { Log.v(TAG, e.getMessage()); } catch (IOException e) { Log.v(TAG, e.getMessage()); } } }; private static File getOutputMediaFile() { String state = Environment.getExternalStorageState(); if (!state.equals(Environment.MEDIA_MOUNTED)) { return null; } else { File folder_gui = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + File.separator + "GUI"); if (!folder_gui.exists()) { Log.v(TAG, "Creating folder: " + folder_gui.getAbsolutePath()); folder_gui.mkdirs(); } File outFile = new File(folder_gui, "temp.jpg"); Log.v(TAG, "Returnng file: " + outFile.getAbsolutePath()); return outFile; } } After clicking the Button, I get logs: "will now take picture", "will now release camera" and "will now call finish". The activity finishes succesfully, but the Callback function was not called during the mCamera.takePicture(null, null, mPicture); function (There were no logs from the mPicture callback or getMediaOutputFile functions) and there is no file in the location that was specified. Any ideas? :) Much thanks!

  • XAML get new width and height for Canvas

    - by Jack Navarro
    I have searched through many times but have not seen this before. Probably really simple question but can't wrap my head around it. Wrote a VSTO add-in for Excel that draws a Grid dynamically. Then launches a new window and replaces the contents of the Canvas with the generated Grid. The problem is with printing. When I call the print procedure the canvas.height and canvas.width returned is the old value prior to replacing it with the grid. Sample: string="<Grid Name=\"CanvasGrid\" xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation\">..Lots of stuff..</Grid>"; // Launch new window and replace the Canvas element WpfUserControl newWindow = new WpfUserControl(); newWindow.Show(); //To test MessageBox.Show(myCanvas.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 894 Grid testGrid = myCanvas.FindName("CanvasGrid") as Grid; MessageBox.Show("Grid " + testGrid.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 234 StringReader stringReader = new StringReader(LssAllcChrt); XmlReader xmlReader = XmlReader.Create(stringReader); Canvas myCanvas = newWindow.FindName("GrphCnvs") as Canvas; myCanvas.Children.Clear(); myCanvas.Children.Add((UIElement)XamlReader.Load(xmlReader)); //To test MessageBox.Show(myCanvas.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 894 but should be much larger the Grid spans all three of my screens Grid testGrid = myCanvas.FindName("CanvasGrid") as Grid; MessageBox.Show("Grid " + testGrid.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 234 but should be much larger the Grid spans all three of my screens //Run code from WpfUserControl.cs after it loads from button click Grid testGrid = canvas.FindName("CanvasGrid") as Grid; MessageBox.Show("Grid " + testGrid.ActualWidth.ToString()); //return 234 but should be much larger the Grid spans all three of my screens So basically I have no way of telling what my new width and height are.

  • Sorted sets and comparators

    - by Jack
    Hello, I'm working with a TreeSetthat is meant to store pathfind locations used during the execution of a A* algorithm. Basically until there are "open" elements (still to be exhaustively visited) the neighbours of every open element are taken into consideration and added to a SortedSetthat keeps them ordered by their cost and heuristic cost. This means that I have a class like: public class PathTileInfo implements Comparable<PathTileInfo> { int cost; int hCost; final int x, y; @Override public int compareTo(PathTileInfo t2) { int c = cost + hCost; int c2 = t2.cost + t2.hCost; int costComp = c < c2 ? -1 : (c > c2 ? 1: 0); return costComp != 0 ? costComp : (x < t2.x || y < t2.y ? -1 : (x > t2.x || y > t2.y ? 1 : 0)); } @Override public boolean equals(Object o2) { if (o2 instanceof PathTileInfo) { PathTileInfo i = (PathTileInfo)o2; return i.cost + i.hCost == cost + hCost && x == i.x && y == i.y; } return false; } } In this way first the total cost is considered, then, since a total ordering is needed (consistency with equals) a ordering according to the x,y coordinate is taken into account. This should work but simply it doesn't, if I iterate over the TreeSet during the algorithm execution like in for (PathTileInfo t : openSet) System.out.print("("+t.x+","+t.y+","+(t.cost+t.hCost)+") "); I get results in which the right ordering is not kept, eg: (7,7,6) (7,6,7) (6,8,6) (6,6,7) (5,8,7) (5,7,7) (6,7,6) (6,6,7) (6,5,7) (5,7,7) (5,5,8) (4,7,7) (4,6,8) (4,5,8) is there something subtle I am missing? Thanks!

  • Appending unique values only in a linked list in C

    - by LuckySlevin
    typedef struct child {int count; char word[100]; inner_list*next;} child; typedef struct parent { char data [100]; inner_list * head; int count; outer_list * next; } parent; void append(child **q,char num[100],int size) { child *temp,*r,*temp2,*temp3; parent *out=NULL; temp = *q; temp2 = *q; temp3 = *q; char *str; if(*q==NULL) { temp = (child *)malloc(sizeof(child)); strcpy(temp->word,num); temp->count =size; temp->next=NULL; *q=temp; } else { temp = *q; while(temp->next !=NULL) { temp=temp->next; } r = (child *)malloc(sizeof(child)); strcpy(r->word,num); r->count = size; r->next=NULL; temp->next=r; } } This is my append function which I use for adding an element to my child list. But my problem is it only should append unique values which are followed by a string. Which means : Inputs : aaa bbb aaa ccc aaa bbb ccc aaa Append should act : For aaa string there should be a list like bbb->ccc(Not bbb->ccc->bbb since bbb is already there if bbb is coming more than one time it should be increase count only.) For bbb string there should be list like aaa->ccc only For ccc string there should be list like aaa only I hope i could make myself clear. Is there any ideas? Please ask for further info.

  • jquery.validation - how to ignore default values when validating mandatory fields

    - by jack
    I am using jquery validation plugin to validate a registration form. Each text input field has instructions pre-filled as values in the input box ex: for a text-input box id='Name', the default value will be set to 'Enter Your Name'. I have pasted below sample code: <input type="text" id="Name" value="Enter Your Name" onfocus="if(this.value == 'Your Name'){this.value = '';}" type="text" class="required" onblur="if(this.value == ''){this.value='Your Name';}" size="25" /> What I need to know is how to specify in the validation rule such that the plugin throws a required field error if the input box contains either the default message or empty values. Help much appreciated.

  • Problem with skipping empty cells while importing data from .xlsx file in asp.net c# application

    - by Eedoh
    Hi to all. I have a problem with reading .xlsx files in asp.net mvc2.0 application, using c#. Problem occurs when reading empty cell from .xlsx file. My code simply skips this cell and reads the next one. For example, if the contents of .xlsx file are: FirstName LastName Age John 36 They will be read as: FirstName LastName Age John 36 Here's the code that does the reading. private string GetValue(Cell cell, SharedStringTablePart stringTablePart) { if (cell.ChildElements.Count == 0) return string.Empty; //get cell value string value = cell.ElementAt(0).InnerText;//CellValue.InnerText; //Look up real value from shared string table if ((cell.DataType != null) && (cell.DataType == CellValues.SharedString)) value = stringTablePart.SharedStringTable.ChildElements[Int32.Parse(value)].InnerText; return value; } private DataTable ExtractExcelSheetValuesToDataTable(string xlsxFilePath, string sheetName) { DataTable dt = new DataTable(); using (SpreadsheetDocument myWorkbook = SpreadsheetDocument.Open(xlsxFilePath, true)) { //Access the main Workbook part, which contains data WorkbookPart workbookPart = myWorkbook.WorkbookPart; WorksheetPart worksheetPart = null; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(sheetName)) { Sheet ss = workbookPart.Workbook.Descendants<Sheet>().Where(s => s.Name == sheetName).SingleOrDefault<Sheet>(); worksheetPart = (WorksheetPart)workbookPart.GetPartById(ss.Id); } else { worksheetPart = workbookPart.WorksheetParts.FirstOrDefault(); } SharedStringTablePart stringTablePart = workbookPart.SharedStringTablePart; if (worksheetPart != null) { Row lastRow = worksheetPart.Worksheet.Descendants<Row>().LastOrDefault(); Row firstRow = worksheetPart.Worksheet.Descendants<Row>().FirstOrDefault(); if (firstRow != null) { foreach (Cell c in firstRow.ChildElements) { string value = GetValue(c, stringTablePart); dt.Columns.Add(value); } } if (lastRow != null) { for (int i = 2; i <= lastRow.RowIndex; i++) { DataRow dr = dt.NewRow(); bool empty = true; Row row = worksheetPart.Worksheet.Descendants<Row>().Where(r => i == r.RowIndex).FirstOrDefault(); int j = 0; if (row != null) { foreach (Cell c in row.ChildElements) { //Get cell value string value = GetValue(c, stringTablePart); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(value) && value != "") empty = false; dr[j] = value; j++; if (j == dt.Columns.Count) break; } if (empty) break; dt.Rows.Add(dr); } } } } } return dt; }

  • Change default Console I/O functions handle.

    - by b-gen-jack-o-neill
    Hello. Is it possible to somehow change standart I/O functions handle on Windows? Language preffered is C++. If I understand it right, by selecting console project, compiler just pre-allocate console for you, and operates all standart I/O functions to work with its handle. So, what I want to do is to let one Console app actually write into another app Console buffer. I though that I could get first´s Console handle, than pass it to second app by a file (I don´t know much about interprocess comunication, and this seems easy) and than somehow use for example prinf with the first app handle. Can this be done? I know how to get console handle, but I have no idea how to redirect printf to that handle. Its just study-purpose project to more understand of OS work behind this. I am interested in how printf knows what Console it is assiciated with.

  • Having trouble parsing XML with jQuery

    - by Jack
    Hi Guys, I'm trying to parse some XML data using jQuery, and as it stands I have extracted the 'ID' attribute of the required nodes and stored them in an array, and now I want to run a loop for each array member and eventually grab more attributes from the notes specific to each ID. The problem currently is that once I get to the 'for' loop, it isn't looping, and I think I may have written the xml path data incorrectly. It runs once and I recieve the 'alert(arrayIds.length);' only once, and it only loops the correct amount of times if I remove the subsequent xml path code. Here is my function: var arrayIds = new Array(); $(document).ready(function(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "question.xml", dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { $(xml).find("C").each(function(){ $("#attr2").append($(this).attr('ID') + "<br />"); arrayIds.push($(this).attr('ID')); }); for (i=0; i<arrayIds.length; i++) { alert(arrayIds.length); $(xml).find("C[ID='arrayIds[i]']").(function(){ // pass values alert('test'); }); } } }); }); Any ideas?

  • Error: Too Many Arguments Specified when Inserting Values from ASP.NET to SQL Server

    Good Afternoon All, I have a wizard control that contains 20 textboxes for part numbers and another 20 for quantities. I want the part numbers and quantities loaded into the following table: USE [Diel_inventory] GO /****** Object: Table [dbo].[QUOTEDETAILPARTS] Script Date: 05/09/2010 16:26:54 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[QUOTEDETAILPARTS]( [QuoteDetailPartID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [QuoteDetailID] [int] NOT NULL, [PartNumber] [float] NULL, [Quantity] [int] NULL, CONSTRAINT [pkQuoteDetailPartID] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [QuoteDetailPartID] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[QUOTEDETAILPARTS] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [fkQuoteDetailID] FOREIGN KEY([QuoteDetailID]) REFERENCES [dbo].[QUOTEDETAIL] ([ID]) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE CASCADE GO Here's the snippet from my sproc for this insert: set @ID=scope_identity() Insert into dbo.QuoteDetailParts (QuoteDetailPartID, QuoteDetailID, PartNumber, Quantity) values (@ID, @QuoteDetailPartID, @PartNumber, @Quantity) When I run the ASPX page, I receive an error that there are too many arguments specified for my stored procedure. I understand why I'm getting the error, given the above table layout. However, I need help in structuring my insert syntax to look for values in all 20 PartNumber and Quantity field pairs. Thanks, Sid

  • WPF - How do I style a row based on a binding property value?

    - by Nick
    Hey! So I am trying to bind a collection of objects (IList<) to a WPF datagrid. I would like to make the row background a different color if the 'artist' property is null or empty. I am checking the value stored at the property on the LoadingRow datagrid event. Currently my implementation seems to style all of the rows with an empty or null 'artist' property correctly. The problem is that is also styles the rows where the property is not null or empty in some cases. So some rows are given the red background even though the rows 'artist' property is not null. Can anyone tell me why this could be?? Here is the LoadingRow event: private void trackGrid_LoadingRow(object sender, DataGridRowEventArgs e) { Track t = e.Row.DataContext as Track; if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(t.Artist)) { e.Row.Background = new System.Windows.Media.SolidColorBrush(System.Windows.Media.Color.FromArgb(255, 255, 125, 125)); } }

  • How to improve multi-threaded access to Cache (custom implementation)

    - by Andy
    I have a custom Cache implementation, which allows to cache TCacheable<TKey> descendants using LRU (Least Recently Used) cache replacement algorithm. Every time an element is accessed, it is bubbled up to the top of the LRU queue using the following synchronized function: // a single instance is created to handle all TCacheable<T> elements public class Cache() { private object syncQueue = new object(); private void topQueue(TCacheable<T> el) { lock (syncQueue) if (newest != el) { if (el.elder != null) el.elder.newer = el.newer; if (el.newer != null) el.newer.elder = el.elder; if (oldest == el) oldest = el.newer; if (oldest == null) oldest = el; if (newest != null) newest.newer = el; el.newer = null; el.elder = newest; newest = el; } } } The bottleneck in this function is the lock() operator, which limits cache access to just one thread at a time. Question: Is it possible to get rid of lock(syncQueue) in this function while still preserving the queue integrity?

  • Getting the final value to this MySQL query...

    - by Jack W-H
    I've got my database set up with three tables - code, tags, and code_tags for tagging posts. This will be the SQL query processed when a post is submitted. Each tag is sliced up by PHP and individually inserted using these queries. INSERT IGNORE INTO tags (tag) VALUES ('$tags[1]'); SELECT tags.id FROM tags WHERE tag = '$tags[1]' ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 1; INSERT INTO code_tags (code_id, tag_id) VALUES ($codeid, WHAT_GOES_HERE?) The WHAT_GOES_HERE? value at the end is what I need to know. It needs to be the ID of the tag that the second query fetched. How can I put that ID into the third query? I hope I explained that correctly. I'll rephrase if necessary.

  • Update table without using cursor and on date

    - by Muhammad Kashif Nadeem

I am using the following query UPDATE @Calls SET OrderId = ( CASE WHEN (s.CallTime > e.OrderDate) THEN e.OrderId END ) FROM @Calls s INNER JOIN @Orders e ON s.CallToId = e.CustomerId and the result of my query is not what I need. Requirement: As you can see there are two orders. One is on 2010-12-12 and one is on 2010-12-22. I want to update @Calls table with relevant OrderId with respect to CallTime. In short If subsequent Orders are added, and there are further calls then we assume that a new call is associated with the most recent Order Note: This is sample data so this is not the case that I always have two Orders. There might be 10+ Orders and 100+ calls. Note2 I could not find good title for this question. Please change it if you think of any better. Thanks.

But when trying this way I get the following response back. HTTP/1.1 405 Method Not Allowed Am I trying the correct way or should I be doing it another way?

I notice the issue within my class method InitInstance(); declaration #pragma once #include "stdafx.h" #include "resource.h" #define MAX_LOADSTRING 100 class RenderEngine { protected: int m_width; int m_height; ATOM RegisterEngineClass(); public: static HINSTANCE m_hInst; HWND m_hWnd; int m_nCmdShow; TCHAR m_szTitle[MAX_LOADSTRING]; // The title bar text TCHAR m_szWindowClass[MAX_LOADSTRING]; // the main window class name bool InitWindow(); bool InitDirectX(); bool InitInstance(); //static functions static LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam); static INT_PTR CALLBACK About(HWND hDlg, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam); int Run(); }; implementation #include "stdafx.h" #include "RenderEngine.h" HINSTANCE RenderEngine::m_hInst = NULL; bool RenderEngine::InitWindow() { RenderEngine::m_hInst = NULL; // Initialize global strings LoadString(m_hInst, IDS_APP_TITLE, m_szTitle, MAX_LOADSTRING); LoadString(m_hInst, IDC_RENDERENGINE, m_szWindowClass, MAX_LOADSTRING); if(!RegisterEngineClass()) { return false; } if(!InitInstance()) { return false; } return true; } ATOM RenderEngine::RegisterEngineClass() { WNDCLASSEX wcex; wcex.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wcex.style = CS_HREDRAW | CS_VREDRAW; wcex.lpfnWndProc = RenderEngine::WndProc; wcex.cbClsExtra = 0; wcex.cbWndExtra = 0; wcex.hInstance = m_hInst; wcex.hIcon = LoadIcon(m_hInst, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_RENDERENGINE)); wcex.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wcex.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(COLOR_WINDOW+1); wcex.lpszMenuName = MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDC_RENDERENGINE); wcex.lpszClassName = m_szWindowClass; wcex.hIconSm = LoadIcon(wcex.hInstance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_SMALL)); return RegisterClassEx(&wcex); } LRESULT CALLBACK RenderEngine::WndProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { int wmId, wmEvent; PAINTSTRUCT ps; HDC hdc; switch (message) { case WM_COMMAND: wmId = LOWORD(wParam); wmEvent = HIWORD(wParam); // Parse the menu selections: switch (wmId) { case IDM_ABOUT: DialogBox(m_hInst, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDD_ABOUTBOX), hWnd, About); break; case IDM_EXIT: DestroyWindow(hWnd); break; default: return DefWindowProc(hWnd, message, wParam, lParam); } break; case WM_PAINT: hdc = BeginPaint(hWnd, &ps); // TODO: Add any drawing code here...   • Can't store UTF-8 in RDS despite setting up new Parameter Group using Rails on Heroku

    - by Lail
    I'm setting up a new instance of a Rails(2.3.5) app on Heroku using Amazon RDS as the database. I'd like to use UTF-8 for everything. Since RDS isn't UTF-8 by default, I set up a new Parameter Group and switched the database to use that one, basically per this. Seems to have worked: SHOW VARIABLES LIKE '%character%'; character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_filesystem binary character_set_results utf8 character_set_server utf8 character_set_system utf8 character_sets_dir /rdsdbbin/mysql-5.1.50.R3/share/mysql/charsets/ Furthermore, I've successfully setup Heroku to use the RDS database. After rake db:migrate, everything looks good: CREATE TABLE `comments` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `commentable_id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `parent_id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL, `content` text COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci, `child_count` int(11) DEFAULT '0', `created_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL, `updated_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `commentable_id` (`commentable_id`), KEY `index_comments_on_community_id` (`community_id`), KEY `parent_id` (`parent_id`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=4 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci; In the markup, I've included: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> Also, I've set: production: encoding: utf8 collation: utf8_general_ci ...in the database.yml, though I'm not very confident that anything is being done to honor any of those settings in this case, as Heroku seems to be doing its own config when connecting to RDS. Now, I enter a comment through the form in the app: "Úbe® ƒåiL", but in the database I've got "Úbe® Æ’Ã¥iL" It looks fine when Rails loads it back out of the database and it is rendered to the page, so whatever it is doing one way, it's undoing the other way. If I look at the RDS database in Sequel Pro, it looks fine if I set the encoding to "UTF-8 Unicode via Latin 1". So it seems Latin-1 is sneaking in there somewhere. Somebody must have done this before, right? What am I missing?

  • CreateProcess() fails with an access violation

    - by John Doe
    My aim is to execute an external executable in my program. First, I used system() function, but I don't want the console to be seen to the user. So, I searched a bit, and found CreateProcess() function. However, when I try to pass a parameter to it, I don't know why, it fails. I took this code from MSDN, and changed a bit: #include <windows.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <tchar.h> void _tmain( int argc, TCHAR *argv[] ) { STARTUPINFO si; PROCESS_INFORMATION pi; ZeroMemory( &si, sizeof(si) ); si.cb = sizeof(si); ZeroMemory( &pi, sizeof(pi) ); /* if( argc != 2 ) { printf("Usage: %s [cmdline]\n", argv[0]); return; } */ // Start the child process. if( !CreateProcess( NULL, // No module name (use command line) L"c:\\users\\e\\desktop\\mspaint.exe", // Command line NULL, // Process handle not inheritable NULL, // Thread handle not inheritable FALSE, // Set handle inheritance to FALSE 0, // No creation flags NULL, // Use parent's environment block NULL, // Use parent's starting directory &si, // Pointer to STARTUPINFO structure &pi ) // Pointer to PROCESS_INFORMATION structure ) { printf( "CreateProcess failed (%d).\n", GetLastError() ); return; } // Wait until child process exits. WaitForSingleObject( pi.hProcess, INFINITE ); // Close process and thread handles. CloseHandle( pi.hProcess ); CloseHandle( pi.hThread ); } However, this code crated access violation somehow. Can I execute mspaint without showing user the console? Thank you very much.

  • how does MySQL implement the "group by"?

    - by user188916
    I read from the MySQL Reference Manual and find that when it can take use of index,it just do index scan,other it will create tmp tables and do things like filesort. And I also read from other article that the "Group By" result will sort by group by columns by default,if "order by null" clause added,it won't don filesort. The difference can be found from the "explain ..." clause. so my problem is:what is the difference between "group by" clause that with "order by null" and which doesn't have? I try to use profiling to see what mysql do on the background,and only see result like: result for group clause without order by null: |preparing | 0.000016 | | Creating tmp table | 0.000048 | | executing | 0.000009 | | Copying to tmp table | 0.000109 | **| Sorting result | 0.000023 |** | Sending data | 0.000027 | result for clause with "order by null": preparing | 0.000016 | | Creating tmp table | 0.000052 | | executing | 0.000009 | | Copying to tmp table | 0.000114 | | Sending data | 0.000028 | So I guess what MySQL do when the "order by null" added,it does not use filesort algorithm,maybe when it creates the tmp table,it uses index as well,and then use the index to do group by operation,when completed,it just read result from the table rows and does not sort the result. But my original opinion is that MySQL can use quicksort to sort the items and then do group by,so the result will be sorted as well. Any opinion appreciated,thanks.
