  • Is there anyway to set values in the settings.bundle from within the APP

    - by joneswah
Is there any way to set/update values in the settings.bundle from within your app. I am fine reading in values from the preferences into NSUserDefaults but was wondering whether you can set values from within the app. I have a web-app which I am making a iPhone client for and was thinking to include the users account details in the settings.bundle. This is fine if the user only updates the values through the Apple Application Preferences screens, but what if the user updated those values in the web app. I wanted to pull down the values from the web and then "update" the values in the settings.bundle from within the App. I am guessing that this is not possible and that maybe I need to create my own "in-app" settings screen? But thought I would check with you all first ...

  • Custom URL Schema and UTI

    - by user573259
I define a Custom URL Schema for my iPhone App http://iphonedevelopertips.com/cocoa/lau…url-scheme.html or a custom UTI (Uniform type identifier) developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/FileManagement/Conceptual/understanding_utis/understand_utis_declare/understand_utis_declare.html%23//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40001319-CH204-SW1 -- Where is this information stored on the iphone? (I do not mean the Info.plist of the app - here must be a central file for such settings like keychain-2.db for passes and stuff) I got some very confusing behavior of an app that was compiled installed with different settings in the Info.plist for the file type (UTI) association and I would like to check if there is some trash (old settings) left from previous versions. Regards, Frood

  • xCode screensaver with openGL

    - by moka
Hi, I am currently simply trying to build a simple screen saver in xcode 3.2 on osx 10.6.3 using an openGL view as described in this article: http://cocoadevcentral.com/articles/000089.php anyways even if I use the exact same code from the example all I see when testing the screen saver is a black screen. I looked in OSX Console if it tells me anything useful. the only thing I get is something like this: [0x0-0x1e01e].com.apple.systempreferences[629] System Preferences(629,0x7fff71071be0) malloc: reference count underflow for 0x20057be80, break on auto_refcount_underflow_error to debug. System Preferences[629] invalid context I have no idea what is wrong, so I would be glad if someone could tell me how to use openGL together with the screensaver template in xCode 3.2. Also, is there a way to make another target so I can preview the screensaver from within xCode? Thanks!

  • How do I convert a NSString into TIS-620 encoded string

    - by MacPC
In the apple document, I can see that there's a way to convert from UTF8 string to ASCII string like this NSData *asciiData = [theString dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding allowLossyConversion:YES]; NSString *asciiString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:asciiData encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; But my app requires a TIS-620 string to post to a site so I try to do the same thing NSData *asciiData = [newPost.header dataUsingEncoding:kCFStringEncodingMacThai allowLossyConversion:YES]; NSString *asciiString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:asciiData encoding:kCFStringEncodingMacThai]; NSLog(@"%@", asciiString); The output I got is like this ???????????. Does anyone know how to convert the NSString to TIS-620 properly? Thanks so much.

  • Help modifying QuartzDemo example application

    - by BittenApple
Can anyone please, oh sweet pain, please take me out of my misery by writing a simple example on how the heck you pass a number (int value) which gets created in 1 .m file to another .m file. In the apple demo application called QuartzDemo, there is a file called QuartzImages.m This file has the following line of code: [CODE]CGPDFPageRef page = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(pdf, 1);[/CODE] Notice the (pdf, 1) in that line. This number should be replaced with an integer variable. Now, there is also a file called MainViewController.m. In that file, there is a method? called -(void)viewDidLoad In that method, I want to assign a number to the integer variable which would replace the damn "1" with whatever number I want. I have been pulling my hair trying to get this done, reading beginning iPhone 3 Development book, dev documentation and God knows what not, without results. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Sigh.

  • xcode scripting language

    - by PurplePilot
i notice that Java has a number of ancillary scripting languages. Clojure and Groovy for example. My understanding is that these can be used when the full might and power of Java does not need to be applied and a speedy cludge can be hacked in Groovy/Clojure. But at the end of the day the scripting tools contribution gets compiled into the application Question 1) Is there a similar scripting in x-code? I was not so interested in Python or Ruby in this situation as they are languages in their own right added in, as indeed i think can happen in Java, but i was looking for a purpose built tools. Question 2) If there is such a tool would it count the application out vis-a-vis the new Apple guidelines as to what can be used to generate iXxx apps?

  • How can I use the Scala program schema2src?

    - by pr1001
This perhaps more a Server Fault question... I installed schema2src via sbaz and now I would like to convert a DTD (Apple's plist schema) to Scala source. $ schema2src usage: schema2src [flags] --module mname arg* or schema2src dtd arg* or (experimental) schema2src xsd arg* (this doesn't work at all yet) where supported [flags] may be: --verbose prints some debugging information However, if I try give any argument, it appears it can't find Scala: $ schema2src --verbose Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: scala/runtime/BoxesUtility at schema2src.Main$.processArgs(Main.scala:56) at schema2src.Main$.main(Main.scala:25) at schema2src.Main.main(Main.scala) Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: scala.runtime.BoxesUtility at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:315) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:330) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:250) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:398) ... 3 more I have scala in my PATH... Any suggestions? Assuming that problem can be fixed, is this the correct syntax? $ schema2src PropertyList-1.0.dtd

  • Default.png images and iPad.

    - by Leg10n
I'm about to submit my first iPad app, and I have 2 questions regarding to Default.png images. I would prefer a "splash screen" showing some artwork of my app, instead of the UI as if it was loaded, the app is a bit heavy and I've seen the users dispair when the UI is apparently loaded but it's not working. Does anyone know if apple is accepting apps with "splash screens"? I want to provide a Default-X.png for every orientation, I've read the iPad programming guide, my question is, is "Default-LandscapeLeft" a Default image rotated 90 degrees clockwise, and "Default-LandscapeRight" rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise? I'm asking this because I don't have an iPad yet to test this on. Thank you a lot in advance.

  • Poping multiple levels in UITableViewController

    - by LavaSlider
I would like to be able to pop multiple views from a UITableViewController stack. For example in the Apple DrillDownSave example, when viewing Level 3 to go back to Level 1 or when viewing an Item to go back to Level 2 when a button is pushed. I tried: [self.navigationController.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; and [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; [self.navigationController.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated: NO]; but these leave me the same place as just a single popViewControllerAnimated:. Is there an easy way to do this?

  • Does this popup view violate HIGS?

    - by brettr
Will using a popup view to present a comment submission form violate the HIGS? I may have one popup with selections that goes to the final popup. Two popups back to back. This is more similar to a modal type of view than an alert or action sheet as described by the HIGS: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/ModalViews/ModalViews.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH11-SW1 under the section 'Using Modal Views'. Basically the type of view I'm shooting for is a combination of an alert with a custom view. It's sort of a mini view since it will be centered in the middle of the screen but not take up all of the viewing area. I'm fairly sure that is a violation however, but I'm looking for a few opinions on it. I believe what needs to happen is use a modal view, which will cover the entire view.

  • MPMoviePlayerController seems to make 2 calls for each movie

    - by user76328
I seem to have an issue where an iphone app using the MPMoviePlayerController seems to make 2 calls to the server for each video it wants to play back. This occurs with iphone 3.x OS and libraries but not with iphone 2.x. I know that iphone does progressive download and will make multiple 206 requests, etc. but as far as our back end is concerned the player appears to make 2 separate sessions. This only appears to be an issue with iPhone native apps and not iphone videos played through safari. Additional info from apple: iPhone OS 3.0 added support for streaming audio and video over HTTP, and MPMoviePlayerController must validate the media before playback to determine if it is streaming content or progressively downloaded content. This is the delay you are experiencing. On a fast network, the delay should be minimized. Is this double check causing 2 sessions be created for each video request? Any one else seeing same issue? Is there a remedy?

  • installing NUMPY for Mac OSX 10.7. (Lion) for use with Python

    - by user1744871
I Need to use nltk and numpy with Python. I am a newbie to Python and initially used the python 2.7.3 that came with my mac (currently running OSX 10.7.5). I learned that the apple version of python may not be robust so I downloaded the standard version from python.org. I have downloaded the nltk program for Mac OSX 10.7. This seemed to install fine. I am trying to download and install numpy using the instructions from the scipy website. http://www.scipy.org/Installing_SciPy/Mac_OS_X. I cloned numpy from github but when I tried to build it using the following command $ python setup.py build I received the following error MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setup.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory I also tried to build it using the scons command $ python setupscons.py scons --jobs=2 and received the following error /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Resources/Python.app/Contents/MacOS/Python: can't open file 'setupscons.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory Can anyone think of a possible workaround?

  • How to programmatically deactivate the AirPort?

    - by mystify
I want to make a small utility to programmatically deactivate the AirPort of my mac. I have networking problems which couldnt be resolved by expensive experts. I need to deactivate and reactivate the mac AirPort once every half hour. So a little utility which does that automatically would be great. I think I wouldn't need an UI for this either. Just the most simple possible kind of application to automatically stop and start the AirPort. Maybe even apple automator code?

  • UIAcceleration filtering

    - by Ilya
    Hi, I found the following piece of code in apple guidelines: - (void)accelerometer:(UIAccelerometer*)accelerometer didAccelerate:(UIAcceleration*)acceleration { //Use a basic low-pass filter to only keep the gravity in the accelerometer values accel[0] = acceleration.x * kFilteringFactor + accel[0] * (1.0 - kFilteringFactor); accel[1] = acceleration.y * kFilteringFactor + accel[1] * (1.0 - kFilteringFactor); accel[2] = acceleration.z * kFilteringFactor + accel[2] * (1.0 - kFilteringFactor); } What does it exactly do? What is this low-pass filter? Why do I have to apply it? Thank you in advance.

  • iOS app rejected by itunes team for copyright when embedding video from youtube

    - by Thiru Subramaniam
I have created a simple app for my client with his selection of youtube videos embedded via iframe player and html5. The app got approved in android store whereas itunes rejected it claiming below, "Apps may not use protected third party material such as trademarks, copyrights, patents or violate 3rd party terms of use. Authorization to use such material must be provided upon request" Below is the link for the app in android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jayam.shortfilms While I share videos using the html code obtained from youtube share button, still apple is claiming that I should provide evidence of copyright from each video owner. Any experiences of this kind will be very helpful for me.

  • How to suppress javascript errors for sites I'm not developing?

    - by Simon_Weaver
I like to keep javascript debugging enabled in my browser so when I'm developing my own code I can instantly see when I've made an error. Of course this means I see errors on apple.com, microsoft.com, stackoverflow.com, cnn.com, facebook.com. Its quite fun sometimes to see just how much awful code there is out there being run by major sites but sometimes it gets really annoyed. I've wondered for YEARS how to change this but never really got around to it. Its particularly annoying today and I'd really like to know of any solutions. The only solution I have is : use a different browser for everyday browsing. I'm hopin theres some quick and easy plugin someone can direct me to where I can toggle it on and off based upon the domain i'm on. Edit: I generally use IE7 for everyday browsing

  • What is the flag to show the nesting of views in a Mac app?

    - by theMikeSwan
I have just spet the last few hours trying to find the flag to use in Terminal to launch an app with the colored outlines around the various view elements to show how they are nested. I know that Matt Gemmell covered it during the Cocoa Face Off session of NSConference 2009 (at about the 13minute mark in the video). Unfortunately I can't actually read what he types and he doesn't speak the exact command. I know it has to be in the Apple docs somewhere but the search system is currently not being of any use. It looks like her just adds -showAllViews YES to the end of the command to open TextEdit but that command has no effect in 10.6.6. I have also tried every other capitalization I can think of as well as using view instead of views. Every command opens TextEdit just fine but doesn't show the colored outlines.

  • How to create a zip file in the same format as the Finder's "Compress" menu item?

    - by benzado
On Mac OS X, you can create a zip archive from the Finder by selecting some files and selecting "Compress" from the contextual menu or the File menu. Unfortunately, the resulting file is not identical to the archive created by the zip command (with the default options). This distinction matters to at least one service operated by Apple, which fails to accept archives created with the zip command. Having to create archives manually is preventing me from fully automating my release build process. How can I create a zip archive in the correct format within a shell script?

  • Custom nib UITableViewCell height

    - by Chuck
I've created a custom UITableViewCell in IB, linked it to the root view controller's property for it, and set it up in CellForRowAtIndexPath. But the height of my drawn cells doesn't match what I setup in IB, advice? Here's some screenshots and the code. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *AddressCellIdentifier = @"AddressCellIdent"; UITableViewCell *thisCell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:AddressCellIdentifier]; if (thisCell == nil) { [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"AddressCell" owner:self options:nil]; thisCell = addressCell; self.addressCell = nil; } return thisCell ; } addressCell is a @property (nonatomic, assign) IBOutlet UITableViewCell *addressCell;, and is linked up in IB to the file's owner (the table view controller). I'm using the example from Apple's table view programming guide.

  • How to get a green to show up like the charging battery on the iPhone lock screen?

    - by tarheel
I am trying to get a color to show up on screen just like the charging battery (shown here): After looking at the Apple Documentation on UIColor here, I have attempted using both colorWithHue:saturation:brightness:aplha: and colorWithRed:green:blue:alpha: to get a color to show up like that. For example when I use colorWithHue:.3 saturation:.84 brightness:1 alpha:.5 on a black background, it renders a color like this: or the colorWithRed:0 green:1 blue:0 alpha:.5 on a black background shows up like this: It doesn't have that translucent or glossy look to it. Is there a better method to use? Or do I just not have the values right? (I have tried many combinations)

  • iPhone - Drawing 2D with OpenGL ES, fast and simple.

    - by Johannes Jensen
I'm going to make a game for the iPhone, and I'm mostly going to be using images. I've read that using Quartz only is slow for actual games with high frame rates, so I was wondering if you guys had any good ideas for using OpenGL for rendering a game scene? I'm going to be using a lot of images, and I want to be able to freely rotate them. I've looked at Apple's examples GLSprite and GLPaint, but I don't really see anything I could use. All I want to do is be able to render images at specific positions, and want to be able to rotate them. I'm a noob at OpenGL, but I know Quartz.

  • How does the default Camera iPhone app manages to save a photo so fast?

    - by worriorbg
Hello everyone. So far I've managed to create an app for iPhone that takes multiple images with about a 3 second interval between each. I`m processing each image in a separate thread asynchronously and everything is great till it gets to the moment for saving the image on the iPhone disk. Then it takes about 12 seconds to save the image to the disk using JPEG representation. How does Apple do it, how do they manage to save a single image so fast to the disk is there a trick they are using? I saw that the animations distract the user for a while, but still the time needed is below 12 seconds! Thanks in advance.

  • CRC32 calculations for png chunk doesn't match the real one

    - by user2507197
I'm attempting to mimic the function used for creating CRC's in PNG files, I'm using the autodin II polynomial and the source code from: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/xnu/xnu-1456.1.26/bsd/libkern/crc32.c My tests have all been for the IHDR chunk, so my parameters have been: crc - 0xffffffff and 0 (both have been suggested) buff - the address of the IHDR Chunk's type. length - the IHDR Chunk's length + 4 (the length of the chunk's data + the length of the type) I printed the calculated CRC in binary, which I compared to the actual CRC of the chunk. I can see no similarities (little-big endian, reversed bits, XOR'd, etc). This is the data for the IHDR chunk (hexadecimal format): length(big endian): d0 00 00 00 (13) type: 49 48 44 52 data: 00 00 01 77 00 00 01 68 08 06 00 00 00 existing CRC: b0 bb 40 ac If anyone can tell me why my calculations are off, or give me a CRC32 function that will work I would greatly appreciate it. Thank-you!

  • iOS subview widget hooked up to multiple controllers

    - by Allison A
So, I want to create a reusable widget as a xib and subview that can appear on a set amount of specific screens. This widget will have three buttons, each with an Action. I want to be able to handle these actions on multiple viewcontrollers. So say ViewControllerA, ViewControllerD, and ViewControllerF can handle the three button events, each in their own way. I've created the nib file. How do I import it into the specific viewcontrollers, and then how do I wire up those events? EDIT: I know that I could potentially get outlets set up via a viewcontroller, but Apple states that UIViewController is for full-screen views only, and my widget is only taking up a small portion of the screen.

  • How to quickly access documentation in Xcode 4.5.1?

    - by International Frog
How can I quickly access the documentation for a symbol, method, enum, etc. in Xcode 4.5? alt + click on symbol shows a quick-info. Apple removed the dictionary icon which opened the documentation. I tried all other possible shortcuts of the cmd / alt / shift / click mumbo jumbo dance and none of them open the documentation browser. I suppose there is a hidden trick to quickly open it anyways? Edit: Figured out this new quick-info box has a link to the documentation.
