• Silverlight layout Best Practices

  I'm writing a fairly big interface using Silverlight. As I progress, the xaml file is getting fairly big and is becoming proportionally uglier. Questions Are there any resources out there to make the xaml more readable? For example, how would I display the order of attributes (e.g. height and Width first) so that it looks the most tidy? Another issue is that there are multiple ways to implement an interface with grids and stack panels. Is there a preferred approach when using one or the other? I am looking for advice and links to other resources that can be used as examples.

• Splitting up/merging windows in WPF

  I'm new to WPF but I need to implement following functionality: I have a window that contains one Grid (might be changed to stack panel or something else). In that Grid I have 2 columns, each of them contains another Grid. Lets call them gridFirst and gridSecond. There is also GridSplitter in first column allowing to resize the columns. I want to provide a button that will allow to separate gridFirst from this window and display it "as it is" in another window. How do I do that? It would be nice if the new window had a same menu as the original window without me having to copy-paste (that not a good coding practise) all its code to the new window. Thanks for answers

• webViewDidFinishLoad exception

  Hi, I have a screen with a webView in my navigation controller stack and when I navigate from this view back to a previous before the page completely loaded I get a EXCEPTION_BAD_ACCESS. Seems, that the view with a webView being released before it comes to webViewDidFinishLoad function. My question is how to overcome this problem? I don't expect from the user to wait till the page loads...   Hello all. I'm trying to populate a page with X entries from my tumblr feed, and I'm wondering how I can only pull that X number from the JSON object it returns. • How to store a user's password to another web application

  I'm building a web application that shows users interesting visualizations of their Gmail activity (who they're emailing the most, etc). Obviously the user needs to give me his Gmail password to use the application, and I'm wondering how I should store it: Store the Gmail password in plaintext. Risky! Don't store the Gmail password at all; force the user to enter it every time he wants to sync data. Potentially inconvenient! Encrypt the Gmail password before storing it. The user's password to my application is the key. Something like (3) seems best, but with (3) I can only sync data when the user logs in (since I won't know his password to my application at any other time), which isn't ideal. I'd prefer a Mint.com-like solution whereby the user can click a button to sync data from Gmail at any time without re-entering his password (any idea how Mint accomplishes this without storing your banking passwords?)

• Problem with stackless python, cannot write to a dict

  I have simple map-reduce type algorithm, which I want to implement in python and make use of multiple cores. I read somewhere that threads using native thread module in 2.6 dont make use of multiple cores. is that true? • MUL instruction help

  I've read a few tutorials and examples, but I cannot wrap my head around how the MUL instruction works. I've used ADD and SUB without problems. So apparently this instruction multiplies its operand by the value in a register. What register (eax, ebp, esp, etc.) is multiplied by the first operand? And what register is the result stored in, so I can move it to the stack? Sorry, I'm just learning x86 assembly. When I try to compile this line... mull $9 I get, "Error: suffix or operands invalid for 'mul'". Can anyone help me out? Thanks. EDIT: OK Madhur, I replaced "mull" with "mul" and I'm still getting the same error. • XmlSerializer throws exception when serializing dynamically loaded type

  Hi I'm trying to use the System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer to serialize a dynamically loaded (and compiled class). If I build the class in question into the main assembly, everything works as expected. But if I compile and load the class from an dynamically loaded assembly, the XmlSerializer throws an exception. • Updated iphone application not live yet

  Hi All, 3 weeks back we uploaded an application on the iTunes(V1.0). On Thursday we updated that application with new build (V1.2). I clicked the "Update" button on itunesconnect.apple.com and followed uploaded the new binary and new contents. On the next day the Description and price tag are updated successfully, but the build version number and screens shots are still from the previous version. And the amazing thing we noticed is that application status is "Waiting for Review" from last 2 days... :( I tried to play with release date, but still application status is "Waiting for Review". Its been 2 days that there is no activity happening from apple... :( Please help me in this scenario..... Thanks in advance. Regards, Vishal.

• WinAPI C - RunAsUser from REDMON_USER and REDMON_SESSIONID

  I installed a PostScript printer driver and have setup REDMON (redmonnt.dll) for redirecting postscript output to my program. In my rather simple c program I capture the data from STDIN and I am able to successfully save it into a .ps file. The file looks OK. However, I want to start gsview.exe for viewing the file. If I call ShellExecute it fails in Windows 7 because of permission issues. It seems that my program is called under a different user account (LOCAL SERVICE). So I am looking for a way to run gsview.exe under a specific username (the user who initiated the print job is available to me in a variable as REDMON_USER along with the SESSIONID as well. I am stuck (and my stack is overflowing =) What are the minimum WinAPI call I need to use to launch a program given a username and a sessionid? Any code examples in C/C++, .NET would be very helpful

• Light-weight client/server DB?

  Hello, (This question falls between programming and finding a tool, so I guess I'll ask here in SO since it has more activity than SuperUser.) I like the simplicity of SQLite, but by design, it doesn't support concurrent access. The apps I write don't have heavy needs, so I'd like to avoid heavier solutions like MySQL that are more difficult to deploy (remote customers with usually no computer personnel). Does someone know of a good solution that would offer the following features? Client available for VB.Net applications The server itself doesn't have to be a .Net application. Actually, I'd rather a bare-metal server so that it can run even on embedded Linux hosts with less RAM/CPU than regular PC's Easy install: the client part should either be statically linked inside the client application or be available as a single DLL, and the server should just be a single EXE listening for queries, à la Fossil (http://www.fossil-scm.org) clients can locate the server on the LAN by broadcasting data picked up by the server, so users don't have to write down the IP address and paste it into each client open-source, or moderately priced closed-source Thank you.

Once I click on the notification and it brings up SomeActivity, it brings up the activity and the extra data is available. However, if I exit the app, hold the home button until the recent activities list comes up, and choose to open the app again, the extra data is still passed. Is there a way I can make this data get passed only if the app is opened via the Notification, and not from the recent activities list?

• Loading a UIDatePicker in Landscape on a UINavigationController

  I have a custom UINavigationController that supports auto-rotate. I also have a UIDatePicker on one of my views that I throw onto the stack of the Navigation controller. The auto-rotate works if I start the date picker view in portrait and then rotate it. If I try load the date picker view in landscape to begin with, the view is all messed up. It looks like it would if it didn't support rotation and the frame only has about half of the picker visible and off center. I've tried making my own date picker that supports auto-rotate in case that was the problem, I've tried creating two different views and swapping them out, and I've tried changing the view frame size on the ViewWillAppear method. None of them seem to be working for me as of yet. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the date picker to show up in landscape correctly on a navigation controller? I probably am overlooking something simple and the answer is right in front of me, but I'm not finding it.

• How to persist a very abstract data type between sessions: PHP

  I have an abstract data type that behaves much like stack. It represents a history of "graph objects" made by a particular user. Each "graph object" holds one or more "lines", a date range, keys, and a title. Each "line" holds a sql generator configured for a particular subset of data in my db. I would like for these "histories" to be available to users between their sessions. It will be in the form of a tab that reads something like "most recent graphs". What do you believe to be the best way to persist this type of data between sessions. This application could get rather large, so efficiency is a concern. Thanks in advance.

  After looking up the advantages and disadvantages of using Google's AJAX Libraries API instead of using jQuery locally, I saw that someone wrote in an answer (here on Stack Overflow, of course) that it's possible to get around the downtime that Google's API sometimes experiences by somehow falling back to a local copy of the library you use. I want to use Google's AJAX Libraries API on my site, but I'm concerned about this possible downtime and I'm curious how such a fallback procedure can be implemented. However, most documentation that describes how the managed heap works depicts it as a linear data structure, such as a linked list or stack. So, is the managed heap actually a heap, or is it implemented with some other data structure? If it actually does not use a heap data structure, is seems like a significant failure of terminology to overload the meaning of this word. If it is in fact a heap data structure, what is the value that satisfies the heap property: the size of the allocated memory region?

  Hello everyone, I'm writing a compiler that converts source code (written in a small imperative programming language) to Intel AT&T 32-bit assembler. I tend to spend a lot of time debugging, because of nasty offset-mistakes etc. in the generated code, and I would like to know if anyone knows of a tool to "walk through" the generated assembler code step-by-step, visualizing what's on the stack etc. I use Ubuntu Linux as my development platform, and I'm comfortable with the terminal -- a GUI-program would be nice though. Does it exist? Or is there a good reason it doesn't (maybe the problem isn't so straightforward..?) If you have good ideas for approaching debugging tasks in assembly code, I'll be glad to hear from you!

  I want to create an environment like UAC. i.e. my dialog should appear to the user and unless he responds to it, i want to disable the background. User should not be able to carry out any activity. For this purpose I created a new desktop and display my dialog on the new desktop. But i want something like UAC where the background seems disabled (or transparent??). I'm trying to write a unit test that goes something like this: [Test] public void Test() { UnityContainer container = new UnityContainer(); DynamicMock myMock = new DynamicMock(typeof(IMyInterface)); container.RegisterInstance(typeof(IMyInterface), myMock.MockInstance); //Error here // Continue unit test... } When this test executes, the container throws an ArgumentNullException inside the RegisterInstance method with the message Value cannot be null. Parameter name: assignmentValueType. The top line of the stack trace is at Microsoft.Practices.Unity.Utility.Guard.TypeIsAssignable(Type assignmentTargetType, Type assignmentValueType, String argumentName). Why can't I register a MockInstance with the UnityContainer, and how do I work around this?

  Hi everyone, I'm struggling to understand the Android AccountManager API. As far as I got thinks working I can use the blockingGetAuthToken method and specify whether Android should provide a notification for user to allow or deny the request. Another possibility is to use getAuthToken and check if KEY_INTENT is returned. If that's the case I could start a new Activity where the user can confirm my request. My problem is that I would like to call one of these two methods from within a Service. Is there any chance to get a callback once the user has made a decision? Thanks for your help
