  • Virtual machine shows no network adapter

    I had a an old Lotus/Domino server (R5), I just virtualized. It ran Windows 2000 server. I had to use Vmware Converter v3.x to create the vm because it was the only one I could find that could actually do a Win2k machine that had no service packs. It was just put out to pasture a couple months ago, so it isn't being used except to store the old email for archiving. It took a bit of work to get it onto the Win2008R2 servers hyper-v but I got it there. Problem now, is that the network adapter didn't show up. I could not install the guest additions because it needed sp4 + on win2k... so I installed sp4 onto the vm guest. Everything seems fine except the network adapter still isn;t showing up in device manager. NOthing. Now this server had an external ip, and I did not want it to be put onto the internal virtual network. I am going to use a dedicated adapter on the host (hyper-v server) if that matters... but this shouldn't matter if the the guests network adapter doesn't show at all. Thoughts?

The 'Date modified' of the .VHD stays at the starttime of the VM. 1/How can we force an update of het VM while the VM is running? 2/Where aree the temporary changes kept?     We are going to be setting up two replicas of our DataMart and related databases, and our plan includes using Hyper-V VM's to handle the load. When creating the VM's, we cannot find specific requirements or recommendations for RAM/CPU power for read-only replicas. Our current Primary DataMart setup has 64GB RAM and Two Quad-Core procs, which so far has been adequate for our usage. What should be the server setup for replicas and SQL Server to adequately support the read-only usage?

    Hi, I'm trying to determine how to set up dual NICs on my Server 2008 box (not R2). I want all web traffic on one NIC and all Hyper-V traffic on the other. Is this possible? ( I assume that it is ) How is this done? ( A link to a tutorial you know of would be great ) Both NICs are the same (Intel PRO/1000 EB Network Connection with I/O Acceleration). I want to uncover an unexpected CPU load peak problem which occurs once a day in a regular fashion. Since it's a terminal server, all network connections time out and bandwidth tends to zero.

    Im trying to take a link either when clicked or hover over be able to grab the attribute href and tell if its a hyper-link or not. Also i want it to be able to tell me if its a hyper-link to my own site. Plus various other filters. The main purpose for this is so that when a internal link is clicked it will tell ajax to grab the content, alot of my links are generated (via wordpress)so I can't modify them too much. Another purpose for this is so i can also make all external links open on a new window. I have a solution that works on a simple test page but when i put into a working page it breaks. I know i am probably making this harder then it should be.     I run a dual monitor setup. To get from monitor 1 to 2 (or vice-versa) requires lots of unnecessary mouse movement. My thought was to leverage a extra mouse button (I have two) and have the mouse hyper-jump (apologies to Star Trek) from the XY coordinates on monitor 1 to the same XY coordinates on monitor 2. How would I go about doing this? Could it be done via C#?

    I am using Cluster Shared Volumes on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V. The different volumes available have different sizes, and are physically located on different disks on the SAN. These volumes defaulted to labels such as C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1. I know that it is not possible / recommended to change where the CSV mount points are (C:\ClusterStorage), but I want to change the rest of the path to be a more useful name than "Volume1". In the Failover Cluster Manager, under Cluster Shared Volumes, I can see these CSVs, and they are working just fine. When I go into their properties, I can see a list, which has the mount point listed, but the entries are not modifiable. How can I change the mount point of a Cluster Shared Volume in Windows Server 2008 R2?

  • PIN based Login in Windows 8.1 Missing

    I installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Pro using Hyper-V, and updated with all updates via Windows Update. It's not domain joined. I cannot however activate a PIN based login for the installation and I'm not sure why. I'm using a Microsoft account to login (not just a local login). I have even manually enabled the feature using group policy (which apparently only should have mattered for a domain joined workstation anyway), rebooted, and it's still not available. As far as I can tell, everything else seems normal and is working as expected. For Sign-in options, I only see Password as a choice:

  • How to route HyperV VMs traffic through host VPN

    I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro with HyperV. I have several VMs for development, all of them connected with host via Internal adapter using network addresses: 192.168.10.0/24 Where: 192.168.10.1 is my host's Hyper-V internal NIC address. When I'm not in my office I use 3G usb dongle an dialup VPN connection. I would like to route traffic from all existing and future VMs through the VPN. In best scenario traffic would be routed only partially to the local company network addresses 10.1.1.0/24 I don't want to use sharing because I'm switching between WiFi, USB 3G dongle and VPN. Moving to other virtualization is also not an option for me.

  • moving to a new dedicated server and need advice on the new setup

    I currently have a dedicated server that we have outgrown and we are moving to another server. Our current setup was a 8gb W2008R2 server running a W2008R2 IIS virtual machine using VMWare. We are moving to a 2 cpu 24 gb server with W2012 R2 on Hyper-V. On our virtual machine we are running iis 7.5 and sql server. Sql Server seems to want to eat up all the memory so I had to cap it at 2gb, which doesn't seem sufficient. My question is, when I move the virtual machine to the new server, should I create 2 virtual machines, one for sql server and one for IIS? Or should I leave them both on the same virtual machine? Or even, put the Sql Server on the dedicated server and run the IIS in the vm? I'd like some input on how this should be done, I've not got the experience needed to make the right call. Thanks!

  • Can't start the Windows Phone Emulator

    When I try run/debug an app in the emulator I get this error: And in Visual Studio's Error List console it simply says: 0x80131500 I haven't worked on this project for about a week, but it was working then. I checked the BIOS and everything is enabled (as it was last week). I don't think this is related, but yesterday, I did upgrade my system SSD and used the Samsung Data Migration Tool to clone my drive. I've tried repairing the Windows Phone SDK 8.0, but that didn't help. Are there any other things I can try? I really don't think it's related to the SSD. Hyper-V related services: I can't start any of these either.

    Hello, I have an win 2008 R2 machine (a home machine of mine) that I am messing around with and learning the server technologies. I also wanted to try out oracle, and was wondering if its possible to setup a LINUX machine with Oracle, and have the two interoperate. What I mean by that is if I setup the server and my laptop on a domain, would it be possible to communicate to that LINUX machine and thus the Oracle database, and if so, are there any good resources on the setup? I was going to create a LINUX hyper v virtual... Any tips appreciated. Thanks.
