  I am thinking of running a self-site builder. But was wondering how would I allow customers to use their own domains that they already own. Is that even possible? Let's say my site is www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com and each customer has urls like this www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/frances www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/eden www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/john And a customer has a domain called widgets.com Is it actually possible domain widgets.com to go to my site somehow and have HASHES on the URL still work (my site makes use of hashes for AJAX queries). • My IIS server won't serve SSL sites to some browsers

I've got an IIS 6.0 server that won't serve pages over SSL to some browsers. In Webkit-based browsers on OS X 10.6, I can't load pages at all. In MSIE 8 on Windows XP SP3, I can load pages, but it will sometimes hang downloading images or sending POSTs. • How can I view my IIS hosted sites on other machines on my network

  Hello, at home i have a simple network setup conatining 2 machines and 1 belkin router. On one machine i have a site hosted with IIS7. Rather than the standard localhost/index.htm address i have added an entry in the HOSTS file pointing the local ip (127.0.0.1) to this domain - www.mysite.dev. i can access the site with www.mysite.dev with no problem. what i would like to do is be able to view this site from my other machine on the network. initially i assumed this could be done with a url like so MACHINE-NAME/www.mysite.dev, but the connection always times out. But I can ping MACHINE-NAME without problems. For testing purposes i have diabled the windows firewall on both machines but to no joy. Like a typical web developer, my techy/network skills are pretty poor. Can anyone see where im going wrong ?? thank you for your time Truegilly :)

  I hope you can help... I have a google account that I use to manage my church website. This account is set up with my work email address. My work (a school system) is in the process of changing us all over to use google accounts to replace Outlook. When I logged in to this new account (which is my same email address) it no longer lets me manage my google site.   I've just set up a fail-over DNS to switch the site to a second host if the first is down. This is great for showing an old / archived version of the site, but I suspect maintenance is going to be a real pain. I moved the files over with rsync in the first place. Is this the kinda thing that could be run as a cron job, automatically moving over newer files?

• Cannot connect to FTP sites anymore

  I have the FTP service running on Server 2003, and I am hosting websites through Apache. I have users configured to point to certain directories on the server. I am using FileZilla to remote FTP, but it never seems to connect to the directory. The command window says: Command: USER wayne Response: 331 Password required for wayne Command: PASS: ***** Response: 230 User wayne logged in Status: Connected Status: Retrieving directory isting... Command: PWD Response: 257 "/wayne" is current directory Command: TYPE I Response: 200 Type set to I. Command: PASV And that's it. It doesn't display any directories at all, and the pane says "Not connected to any server". Sometimes it will display the folder, but nothing happens when I click on it to expand it. It was working fine, and I have another FTP server set up the same way that does work. How can I fix this? EDIT: I've tried changing it to Active FTP, and it says: Command: LIST Command: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for /bin/ls Response: 425 Can't open data connection. Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing. I also noticed that I'm not able to browse the site in IIS's management console anymore, it just shows a blank screen when I click on one of the names and says There are no items to show in this view, although the name has permissions to view the folder and everything. Could it be because I have the Web Publishing service disabled (as I'm not using IIS to host websites)? That shouldn't cause anything should it?

  I have 2 websites a main website hosted at fasthosts and an e-commerce website hosted at Vidahost. I want to combine both websites under the same domain set. Main site would be www.mydomain.com Store site would be shop.mydomain.com I want to keep the directory path showing on the shop subdomain so what was previously www.mystore.com/product/hat would become shop.mydomain.com/product/hat How can I accomplish this, have already created the subdomain on fasthosts and setup web forwarding to the store but the directory paths do not show.

• Internet explorer rejects cookies in kerberos protected intranet sites

  I'm trying to build an intranet site using joomla. The webserver is using HTTP Kerberos authentication with mod_kerb_auth. Everything works fine, the users get authenticated and so on. But if i try to login to the administrator panel i can't because IE does not accept the needed cookies. No such problem with firefox. The intranet site is called "intranet_new" and is hosted by webintranet04, under the directory /var/www/vhosts/joomla/intranet_new/. Does JIT happens every time you restart windows? Is it related to creation of w3wp.exe process? Why sites are so slow for the first request after each restart?

• Can't connect to FTP sites

  This started happening when I installed Windows 7. I've tried with Filezilla and with the FireFTP Firefox plugin, and I could never connect. Filezilla gave the error message "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server". I tried disabling the Windows Firewall, but no luck. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I just discovered that I can connect with web services like net2ftp, but not with FTP clients.

  I would like to set all virtualhosts on my server down for maintenance for some time. The temporary page should contain something like sorry, the page www.xxx.com is down for maintenance. you can see the cached version here: Then the trick: the user should then see the cached page from a cache like googlecache or similar for the requested page as long as the server is down. This would show the correct content on pages, that are static anyway and give the visitor the needed content in many cases, while I can shut down mysql and other services that would usually be needed to show that pages. How can I set a global page on all virtualhosts, that parses the original requested URL through PHP?

• Plesk and Apache configuration gives me 403 on all sites

  My friends server running Plesk 9.2 with Apache. Now there were some problems the last days where he couldn't tell me what exactly has happened. The situation now is the following: He has a lot of domains in it. When somebody visit any domain it shows up a 403. I checked the logs and saw the problem [Sun Jun 24 08:24:47 2012] [error] [client XX.XX.XX.XX] script '/srv/www/htdocs/index.php' not found or unable to stat Apache should route to '/srv/www/vhosts/domain.tld/htdocs/index.php' instead of /srv/www/htdocs/index.php It's doing that on all of the domains. Can you tell me whats wrong and how to fix it?

• Windows 7 PC browsers having trouble to open certain sites but not others

  Hi, My Win7 PC these days acting very weird: Examples: It can not open bing.com, alexa.com, msdn.microsoft.com (blank page or page can not be found); It can open zdnet.com but lost all CSS layouts and pictures; It can open stackoverflow and Google no problem; I tried all three browsers (IE8, Chrome, Firefox 3.6) same thing. I didn't change anything on this PC in days. This PC does have Anti-Virus installed and updated. I'm also pretty sure it's not a network problem, because my other laptops are just fine at the same time. The only thing I can think of is it might be some auto-update stuff underneath happened without my knowledge, but I have no idea where to troubleshoot? Please shed some lights for me? Thanks a lot.

• Windows FTP client to mirror ftp sites?

  I need a Windows application that works like *nix's lftp. The Windows host will download the latest changes made to FTP Server #1, and upload those changes to FTP Server #2. Server #2 can't pull files directly from Server #1 because it's a www shared host with no shell account. The requirements are: 1. Windows app available for XP/Vista/W7 2. Must run either as icon or service. I don't want to have an extra icon open in the task bar 3. Reliable, so I don't have to worry about it. Is there an application you would recommend? Thank you.

  I am having a rough time running apache and using multiple domain names here is a snippet of my config file. I keep getting a error saying that NameVirtualHost has no VirtualHosts. I want them both running on the same IP and I'm not sure why this doesn't work. I've been digging through the documentation for VirtualHosts, NameVirtualHost, and apache's page about name based virtual hosting. That example in the name based page is almost exactly my config! What am I doing wrong? • 389 DS Achitecture for Multiple Sites

  I'm looking to deploy 389 Directory in my environment to replace an existing iPlanet installation. I would be using it primarily to store user account data for authentication purposes. I have two physically separate data centers that I would like to share the same directory tree. My initial thinking is to setup 389 DS as follows: -A Master/Consumer in DataCenter A -A Master/Consumer in DataCenter B -Replication agreement between both masters, to mirror the directory tree in both environments. Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Is there a better way to do it? (ie: four masters?) Is there documentation for best practices when setting up 389 DS in situations such as this? Thanks.

• Xen virtual host can reach some sites but not others

  Okay, this is killing me. Debian Squeeze, Xen 4.0, brand new install. No iptables rules whatsoever except for the ones added by the default xen bridge script. Dom0 can reach the entire world, no problems. DomU can receive packets from some hosts, but not from others. For instance, if I ping Host A, it works fine. If I ping Host B, the DomU reports 100% packet loss. The hosts are random, but consistent (even after reboots). I can see no pattern to why some work and others don't. In fact, in some cases, different virtual hosts on the same server (an other server at a different data center) are divided; some work and others do not. I can reboot (DomU or Dom0 too) and the same hosts will work or fail as before. If I tcpdump on the Host B while pinging from the DomU, everything looks fine. It sees the echo request coming in and says it's sending one back. However, if I tcpdump peth0 on the Dom0, it never sees the echo reply. Any ideas what could be happening? I'm tearing my hair out here.

Is it possible somehow to define a domain name(s) for which (only for 1 domain! not every page) some regexps should be looked for? To be clear: How to replace "Google"-"garbage" in page source only for host host.example.org? May be other content filtering system can do this? Then which one?
