  • Installing Plugins from Cloud p2 repository in Eclipse IDE

    I have been recently reading a lot about p2 for a requirement of mine. Most of the p2 documentation online points to p2 for RCP. My requirement is for a plugin repo. I have a plugin that is used within Eclipse IDE. I dnt want to change the repo location but based on the Eclipse Version, if the user looks for Install New Software or Check for Updates it needs to download the respective plugins. My repo currently contains all the plugins for all the versions. but i need to everytime give a different URL to my user based on the Version. For e.g i am using Eclipse 3.7(Indigo). I install the plugin thru Install New Software by adding the p2 Repo URL. Now the user decides to for some requirement move to Eclipse 3.6, I want him to connect to the same p2 Repo URL and download the plugins created for Eclipse 3.6. This is definitely possible using p2 Discovery, or i could categorize the downloads using composite repository but i dnt want to do any of these. Just want to kno is there any API that i can hold on to, so that before processing the URL and finding the updates, i can check the version of Eclipse and redirect it based on the version to an internal URL. This is possible in RCP, want to kno if i can do it in Eclipse p2 UI. All the p2 UI looks to be internal classes. Any directives would be appreciated. Malai

  • How come I can not install plugins on my local Wordpress install?

    Hello, I got WordPress up and running fine on Ubuntu 10.04 by using this source except that when I try to update and install themes/plugins I get this following error message in wp-admin page: Installing Plugin: WordPress.com Stats 1.8.1 Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/stats.1.8.1.zip… Unpacking the package… Could not create directory. /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/upgrade/stats.tmp/stats Actions: Return to Plugin Installer At first I thought I had to setup an FTP account but searched more and I found some information that says that I need to change the permissions of the wp-content folder which is located in the directory: /var/www/wordpress/wp-content I tried changing it by doing: sudo chmod -R 777 wp-content/ but when I tried installing a plugin I got the same error message. I also tried passing it 755 as a permission but still got the same thing. I settled on 755 because it is more secure I have read. How can I solve this problem safely and securely?

  • Turning off auto indent when pasting text into vim

    Unfortunately, I am not an experienced vim user. But, I am making the effort to learn it. When I paste code into my document from the clipboard, I get extra spaces at the start of each new line: line line line I know you can turn off auto indent but mine doesn't seem to work because I have some other settings conflicting or something (which look pretty obvious in my .vimrc but don't seem to matter when I take them out). Can someone please show me the way to turn this off when I paste code but still have vim auto indent when I am writing code?   • Lost left/right cursor keys in VIM insert mode?

    When I edit .sql file in VIM, I can't use left/right cursor keys while in insert mode. In normal mode they work just fine. In another file types - they work fine as well. in ~/.vim/ftplugin/sql.vim there is bunch of "iab"s, but not much more. I found out that when running vim with standard vimrc, not-customized, the problem is not existing. What could be wrong? Is there any option that could have been set, that disables some (up and down work) cursor keys in insert mode ?!

  • How can I view multiple git diffs side by side in vim

    I'd like to be able to run a command that opens up a git diff in vim, with a tab for each file in the diff set. So if for example I've changed files foo.txt and bar.txt in my working tree and I ran the command I would see vim open with two tabs. The first tab would contain a side-by-side diff between foo.txt in my working tree and foo.txt in the repository, and the second tab would contain a side-by-side diff for bar.txt. Anyone got any ideas?

On a few occasions I've accidentally opened a blank vim file with some complex bash command I was writing. Awesome. How do I get the newly written line in vim back into bash?   • How can I get vim to set an ACL on its swap files?

    I use vim on an OS X Snow Leopard Server machine. A number of the directories I work in have ACLs (so that various groups of users can access them over AFP) that are inherited. For some reason, when I'm working in one of these directories, vim cannot read it's own swap files. It can create them fine but can't read them which, for some reason, makes it display the "swap file already exists" message (and no, the swap file does not already exist). vim -r lists the newly created swap file as "[cannot be read]". The owner and group are correct and the permissions are 0600, and the ACLs on the swap file and the file I'm editing are identical (as disclosed by ls -le and compared with diff). groups returns the same thing whether invoked from my login shell or via :! in vim. Has anyone encountered (and hopefully resolved) a problem like this before?

    Hi, I run an Ubuntu server virtualbox under a Windows host for web development. At the moment I do all editing in Vim running inside PuTTY. It runs pretty well, but lacks some useful features like native copypasting from the host. I know about the remote mode of Vim, but afaik it can only operate on the same machine. Question is, is it possible to make gVim on the windows host proxy all the commands (and the editing) to a Vim instance running on the Linux guest?

  • Fast word count function in Vim

    I am trying to display a live word count in the vim statusline. I do this by setting my status line in my .vimrc and inserting a function into it. The idea of this function is to return the number of words in the current buffer. This number is then displayed on the status line. This should work nicely as the statusline is updated at just about every possible opportunity so the count will always remain 'live'. The problem is that the function I have currently defined is slow and so vim is obviously sluggish when it is used for all but the smallest files; due to this function being executed so frequently. In summary, does anyone have a clever trick for producing a function that is blazingly fast at calculating the number of words in the current buffer and returning the result?

    Hi, I've started using Vim for my rails development (who hasn't!).. And i'm loving it except that when im in a html.erb file (HTML and Ruby).. I get no snipMate snippets, I would like both html and ruby... or just html would be fine, How would i do this? Would i need to write a set of snippets? if so is there a way of pulling in existing snippets without copying them? Is there a way of telling vim to go into html mode when it sees .html erb?   • Scroll up/down while selecting multi-page block of text in Vim through putty

    I'm using vim 6.3.81 on a xterm through putty. When I use set mouse=a , I can scroll through the file , but not select text. When mouse is disabled using set mouse=, I can select text with mouse (automatically copied to a buffer) , but if the text block is over one page long , I can't scroll up/down (and have to select text one screen at a time) !! Is there any way to have the best of both - while selecting text with mouse , if i reach the end of page , it automatically scrolls up/down depending on whether i've reached top/bottom of page and allows me to select text from the next page as well ? I know vim is powerful/flexible enough to do what I want - I just don't know how !! Can anyone help ?

  • vim: how do I keep 10 lines visible when scrolling up to EOF with CRTL-F ???

    Hello! I am used to use vi, not vim. What I find annoying in vim is that when you are scrolling with CTRL-F and reach EOF, vim scrolls down to the very last line and put this line on the top of your screen, and you can't see the lines above. You must scroll up a little bit so you can see the context. All this happens with CTRL-F only, not with j or the down cursor key. In vi, you scroll down (with CTRL-F), but when you reach EOF it still show you, say, 15 lines and then the tippical ~. I am using Putty for remote access. How can I config vim to behave like vi in this case? Hope you understand the question. Thank you! Gaston.

    I use VIM as my text editor and I edit a lot of XML and WSDL files. WSDL files have an XSD section. Is there some VIM plugin I can use to traverse the XSD types? i.e., if I have the following line and the caret is where the '|' sign is: <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="FooName" type="Magic|FooType"/> and I press Ctrl+Alt+Foo (or some other magic combo) it will get me to the definition of MagicFooType, i.e.: <xsd:complexType name="MagicFooType"> I couldn't find how to use ctags for this and all the other plugins that I could find are for imperative languages (i.e. Java). Is there some plugin/script to do the job?

  • Vim 80 column layout concerns

    I feel like the way I do 80-column indication in Vim is incorrect: set columns=80. At times I also set textwidth but I like to be able to see and anticipate line overflow with the set columns alternative. This has some unfortunate side effects -- I can't set number for fear of splitting between files that have different orders of line numbers; i.e. < 100 line files and = 100 line files will require two different set columns values because of the extra column used for the additional digit display. I also start new (g)Vim sessions instead of splitting windows vertically, which forces me to use the window manager's clipboard -- vsplits force me to do set columns every time I open or close a pane, so starting a new session is less hassle. How do you handle the 80-character indication when you want to set numbers, vertically split, etc.?

  • Pressing "Home" in Vim on an Indented Line

    I have a bad habit of using the 'home' key to go back to the beginning of a line. As I recently started using vim (and loving it!) I noticed that when I press the home key on a lined that is indented, it returns me to the very beginning of the line. In Notepad++ (the editor I used to use) it would return me to the beginning of the code on that line, right after the indent. Is there some way to replicate this behavior in vim? Usually, when I'm pressing home it's in the Insert mode for me to (usually) stick a variable there. I have set smartindent in my vimrc, with set noautoindent as a "tips" page told me to make sure to disable autoindent (although it didn't seem to be enabled in the first place - perhaps that option is extraneous.)     I have a basic pagination system that looks something like that: First | < Previous | 1, 2, [3], 4, 5 ... 100, 101, 102 | Next > | Last Nothing fancy really. I am looking at various plugins to improve the way the user would browse this, but so far I haven't found anything really new or interesting except: http://tympanus.net/jPaginate/ : interesting way of browsing between pages but still very classical in the realization http://cpojer.net/Scripts/Pagination/ : totally new way of doing pagination, but the implementation isn't perfect and it's not really usable. Do you guys have ideas on how I could improve the way my users browse through navigation? Are there any good jQuery plugins out there already doing that?

    There were two things that I want to know how to do in Emacs (23.2, *nix): Go to the first character after indentation in a line Go to the first character that's the equivalent to a given character (an equivalent to vim's fx command that goes forward until it hits the x character; maybe C-s (incremental search) is the best way to do this) But, I think it would be better if I had a cheat sheet that listed navigational bindings. Maybe Emacs (self-documenting) can do this on it's own. Is there a list of commands that are equivalent to vim's default commands anywhere? How about a list of navigational key-bindings in Emacs?
