Hello, I've recently started learning PHP, but I have a wide knowledge on C++. I've been wondering how to make a web bot and now, I would greatly like to make one. I won't be using this robot for spamming or anything, just as a test of what PHP/C++ can do online. I was wondering how I could go about doing this and if you have any articles/tutorials that would be helpful.
Thanks,
John
Hi guys, I've just started learning Struts and I'm trying to be marketable for a good job as a Java programmer. My next decision would be choosing which to learn next, Spring or Hibernate?
Also do you guys have any suggestions or tips for me to be good? Thanks in advance!
I'm trying to build a simple interpreted language for learning purposes. I've read countless theory and tutorials on ANTLR and JavaCC, but I can't figure out how to actually make it do something useful.
I learn best by "taking something apart and putting it back together again", so, are there any working examples of simple languages implemented with the help of tools such as ANTLR, or similar?
Something like the following might be nice:
x = 1
if x == 1
print "true"
This may be a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/31672/learning-fortran-in-the-modern-era, but that thread went on discussing legacy code concerns.
Anyway, few months ago in a bookstore sale I picked up book called FORTRAN 66 for PDP-11. I found it interesting and decided it would be nice to learn FORTRAN. So I'm looking for some modern books/tutorials dealing with new versions of FORTRAN.
What are some practical ideas that you have found useful for bringing graduates on to your team in their first job?
Some of the things that are working well for us include:
Assigning a mentor to assist the learning process
Written coding standards/guidelines
Spending a period of time with the test team to learn the product
Where possible, a broad range of experiences in the first few months
Anything else that works well for you?
A related question can be found here.
Given that someone has almost an equal understanding of coding(java, php, etc) and web designing(css, xml, photoshop) and wants to create a functional site. Which generally would be more time-consuming.
There is obviously lots of considerations...but in general
Just curious, because i am learning everything from books and now putting coding and design into practice and the css is kicking my *.
I've recently been learning perl and am wondering what frameworks are available for creating a web app. I'm mostly concerned about security, so if there are any security-specific web frameworks you'd recommend, I'd be more interested in those.
Recommendations from thread below (thanks!):
Catalyst
Web::Simple
CGI::Application
I am looking into creating a custom members login system (for learning) and I haven't been able to figure out the C# command to generate an encrypted hash.
Is there a certain namespace I need to import or anything like that?
Thanks for any help.
Does anyone have a good starting point for learning about development for the new Nintendo DSi? What kind of hardware do you need to develop and test something like this? Can you develop for the DSi using the standard DS? What language do you need to use?
[Bonus Question] : I also heard the new DSi is going to get an App Store similar to Apple - Are developers going to be able to sell games using this?
Its not the another language debate, its a decision making discussion.
I am a ASP.NET developer, but want to learn other frameworks/language (open source). I don't know from where i should start and why? Django and Rails both seems promising, but i am confused which one i should choose to start, or i should choose some other framework. I know learning the language (python or ruby) is must before start Django or Rails.
Please advise.
I am new to programming and only know html,css,PHP and would like to start learning another new language. I am focused on web development and would just like to get your opinion on ASP.net and python.
Which language would serve me best in making sites as to general programming? ASP.NET or django python?
I know Python is "easy to learn" and similar to PHP, but ASP.net is also a good language.

I am new to RIA and have not been actively involved with this technology in my projects as we using server-side Java, but I want to gain some experience with RIA. My questions are:
How has RIA technology evolved and in your opinion?
What technology stack currently
rules this domain?
What are the recommended resources for learning RIA? In general what is the suggested approach for getting started on the RIA journey?

Hello All,

I'm just learning ROR and I came across the if / else statements. I also came across 'elseif' but my text editor (textmate) doesn't pick it up as a keyword, not does the program run properly.
if name == 'Chris'
puts 'What a lovely name.'
elseif name == 'Katy'
puts 'What a lovely name!'
end
I'm using the book, Learn to Program, which was written several years ago. I was wondering if the 'elseif' was changed because when I simply use 'else' it seems to function properly
I am using Rails 2.0.2 and following Github installation instructions:
1. add as gem source ie "gem sources -a http://gemcutter.org/".....ok
2. install gem ie "gem install formtastic"....gives error, could not find formtastic locally or in a repository
I am learning Ruby on Rails and have no knowledge of gems
I'm in the beginning stages of writing (and learning as I go) a Python database app using SQLite.
I have the db structure planned on paper, and I have the queries I'll need in mind, but before I start coding I want to fully test the db design so I know it's right and ready.
What's the best free software to use to test the db structure quickest?

Hi there guys! I'm starting out learning some ASP.Net programming and I'm going to be making a little community website for my friends and myself.
I'm trying to pick up some good habits along the way.
I was thinking of having a usercontrol and have that 'loginBox' shows the appropriate textboxes and login button, but also show his username when he is logged in.
Do you think I should handle this as a user control or am I missing something as an ASP.Net newbie?
I am sick of this kind of URL:
www.domain.com/something/?id=person&photos=photoID&variable1=others&...
I am using apache, learning to write .htaccess now. Can anyone show me the basic code for this one?
Ugly: www.domain.com/something/?id=person&photos=photoID
Goal: www.domain.com/something/person/photoID
A friend of mine, who studies game development at an university, is currently learning programming in OpenCL. What would be a simple project that teaches the most important aspects of OpenCL and can be finished within about 50 - 100 hours?
