  • Obtain patterns in one file from another using ack or awk or better way than grep?

    - by Rock
Is there a way to obtain patterns in one file (a list of patterns) from another file using ack as the -f option in grep? I see there is an -f option in ack but it's different with the -f in grep. Perhaps an example will give you a better idea. Suppose I have file1: file1: a c e And file2: file2: a 1 b 2 c 3 d 4 e 5 And I want to obtain all the patterns in file1 from file2 to give: a 1 c 3 e 5 Can ack do this? Otherwise, is there a better way to handle the job (such like awk or using hash) because I have millions of records in both files and really need an efficient way to complete? Thanks!

  • Ruby Regexp methods?

    - by fjs6
Is there a gem/example_code that allows to work with regexps? I am not looking for what a regexp can do, but what can be done to a Regexp object. For example: r = Regexp.new(...) r.min_length => the minimum length of a matching string r = Regexp.new("car(less)?") r.min_length => 3 for the string "car" Thanks!

  • Filter syslog in php functions, then display contents in JS div?

    - by qx3rt
    Let's revise this question with a new approach...I have three files: logtail.php, ajax.js and index.php. My goal is to create a syslog viewer (Linux). On index.php I made a div where I want to display only the filtered contents of the syslog. I must filter the contents in logtail.php. I have to use a shell_exec and | grep the contents with multiple different regexes. Right now I | grep the entire syslog file and it displays live in the log viewer, but my filters are not working as planned. I need help figuring out how to use $_GET to grab only the contents from the syslog that the user wants to see. I have a text field and submit button prepared for that in my index.php file. Should I use functions (tried this already)? Or is there a better approach? Can you give me some examples? logtail.php //Executes a shell script to grab all file contents from syslog on the device //Explodes that content into an array by new line, sorts from most recent entry to oldest entry if (file_exists($filename = '/var/log/syslog')) { $syslogContent = shell_exec("cat $filename | grep -e '.*' $filename"); $contentArray = explode("\n", $syslogContent); rsort($contentArray); print_r($contentArray); } ajax.js (working properly) function createRequest() { var request = null; try { request = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (trymicrosoft) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (othermicrosoft) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (failed) { request = null; } } } if (request == null) { return alert("Error creating request object!"); } else { return request; } } var request = createRequest(); function getLog(timer) { var url = 'logtail.php'; request.open("GET", url, true); request.onreadystatechange = updatePage; request.send(null); startTail(timer); } function startTail(timer) { if (timer == "stop") { stopTail(); } else { t = setTimeout("getLog()",1000); } } function stopTail() { clearTimeout(t); var pause = "The log viewer has been paused. To begin viewing again, click the Start Log button.\n"; logDiv = document.getElementById("log"); var newNode = document.createTextNode(pause); logDiv.replaceChild(newNode,logDiv.childNodes[0]); } function updatePage() { if (request.readyState == 4) { if (request.status == 200) { var currentLogValue = request.responseText.split("\n"); eval(currentLogValue); logDiv = document.getElementById("log"); var logLine = ' '; for (i = 0; i < currentLogValue.length - 1; i++) { logLine += currentLogValue[i] + "<br/>\n"; } logDiv.innerHTML = logLine; } else alert("Error! Request status is " + request.status); } } index.php <script type="text/javascript" src="scripts/ajax.js"></script> <button style="margin-left:25px;" onclick="getLog('start');">Start Log</button> <button onclick="stopTail();">Stop Log</button> <form action="" method="get"> //This is where the filter options would be Date & Time (ex. Nov 03 07:24:57): <input type="text" name="dateTime" /> <input type="submit" value="submit" /> </form> <br> <div id="log" style="..."> //This is where the log contents are displayed </div>

  • Modify bash variables with sed

    - by Alexander Cska
I am trying to modify a number of environmental variables containing predefined compiler flags. To do so, I tried using a bash loop that goes over all environmental variables listed with "env". for i in $(env | grep ipo | awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} ; { print $1 } ' ) do echo $(sed -e "s/-ipo/ / ; s/-axAVX/ /" <<< $i) done This is not working since the loop variable $i contains just the name of the environmental variable stored as a character string. I tried searching a method to convert a string into a variable but things started becoming unnecessary complicated. The basic problem is how to properly supply the environmental variable itself to sed. Any ideas how to properly modify my script are welcome. Thanks, Alex

  • How to code an efficient blacklist filter function in php?

    - by achairapart
So, I have three arrays like this: [items] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [id] => someid [title] => sometitle [author] => someauthor ... ) ... ) and also a string with comma separated words to blacklist: $blacklist = "some, words,to,blacklist"; Now I need to match these words with (as they can be one of) id, title, author and show results accordingly. I was thinking of a function like this: $pattern = '('.strtr($blacklist, ",", "|").')'; // should return (some|words|etc) foreach ($items as $item) { if ( !preg_match($pattern,$item['id']) || !preg_match($pattern,$item['title']) || !preg_match($pattern,$item['author']) ) { // show item } } and I wonder if this is the most efficient way to filter the arrays or I should use something with strpos() or filter_var with FILTER_VALIDATE_REGEXP ... Note that this function is repeated per 3 arrays. However, each array will not contain more than 50 items.

  • Regular Expression for accurate word-count using JavaScript

    - by Haidon
I'm trying to put together a regular expression for a JavaScript command that accurately counts the number of words in a textarea. One solution I had found is as follows: document.querySelector("#wordcount").innerHTML = document.querySelector("#editor").value.split(/\b\w+\b/).length -1; But this doesn't count any non-Latin characters (eg: Cyrillic, Hangul, etc); it skips over them completely. Another one I put together: document.querySelector("#wordcount").innerHTML = document.querySelector("#editor").value.split(/\s+/g).length -1; But this doesn't count accurately unless the document ends in a space character. If a space character is appended to the value being counted it counts 1 word even with an empty document. Furthermore, if the document begins with a space character an extraneous word is counted. Is there a regular expression I can put into this command that counts the words accurately, regardless of input method?

  • Getting a "summary" of a webpage

    - by MattiasK
I have something of a a hairy problem, I'd like to generate a couple of paragraphs of "description" of a given url, normally the start of an article. The Meta description field is one way to go but it isn't always good or set properly. It's fair to say it's a bit problematic to accomplish this from the screenscraped HTML. I had a general idea that perhaps one could scan the HTML for the first "appropriate" segment but it's hard to say what that is, perhaps something like the first paragraph containing a certain amount of text... Anyone have any good ideas? :) It doesn't have to be foolproof

  • preg_replace - don't include string if $4 is blank

    - by bradenkeith
    I have this expression: $regex_phone = '/^(?:1(?:[. -])?)?(?:\((?=\d{3}\)))?([2-9]\d{2})' .'(?:(?<=\(\d{3})\))? ?(?:(?<=\d{3})[.-])?([2-9]\d{2})' .'[. -]?(\d{4})(?: (?i:ext)\.? ?(\d{1,5}))?$/'; if(!preg_match($regex_phone, $data['phone'])){ $error[] = "Please enter a valid phone number."; }else{ $data['phone'] = preg_replace($regex_phone, '($1) $2-$3 ext.$4', $data['phone']); } That will take a phone number such as: 803-888-8888 ext 2 as well as 803-888-8888 First number formats as: (803) 888-8888 ext.2 -- the desired effect Second number formats as: (803) 888-8888 ext. -- blank extension How can I set it so that if $4 is blank, that ext. won't show? Thanks so much for any help you can offer. I hope this was clear.

  • ruby parametrized regular expression

    - by astropanic
I have a string like "{some|words|are|here}" or "{another|set|of|words}" So in general the string consists of an opening curly bracket, words delimited by a pipe and a closing curly bracket. What is the most efficient way to get the selected word of that string ? I would like do something like this: @my_string = "{this|is|a|test|case}" @my_string.get_column(0) # => "this" @my_string.get_column(2) # => "is" @my_string.get_column(4) # => "case" What should the method get_column contain ?

  • Regular expression from font to span (size and colour) and back (VB.NET)

    - by chapmanio
Hi, I am looking for a regular expression that can convert my font tags (only with size and colour attributes) into span tags with the relevant inline css. This will be done in VB.NET if that helps at all. I also need a regular expression to go the other way as well. To elaborate below is an example of the conversion I am looking for: <font size="10">some text</font> To then become: <span style="font-size:10px;">some text</span> So converting the tag and putting a "px" at the end of whatever the font size is (I don't need to change/convert the font size, just stick px at the end). The regular expression needs to cope with a font tag that only has a size attribute, only a color attribute, or both: <font size="10">some text</font> <font color="#000000">some text</font> <font size="10" color="#000000">some text</font> <font color="#000000" size="10">some text</font> I also need another regular expression to do the opposite conversion. So for example: <span style="font-size:10px;">some text</span> Will become: <font size="10">some text</font> As before converting the tag but this time removing the "px", I don't need to worry about changing the font size. Again this will also need to cope with the size styling, font styling, and a combination of both: <span style="font-size:10px;">some text</span> <span style="color:#000000;">some text</span> <span style="font-size:10px; color:#000000;">some text</span> <span style="color:#000000; font-size:10px;">some text</span> I apprecitate this is a lot to ask, I am hopeless with regular expressions and need to find a way of making these conversions in my code. Thanks so much to anyone that can/is willing to help me!

  • java phone number validation....

    - by user69514
Here is my problem: Create a constructor for a telephone number given a string in the form xxx-xxx-xxxx or xxx-xxxx for a local number. Throw an exception if the format is not valid. So I was thinking to validate it using a regular expression, but I don't know if I'm doing it correctly. Also what kind of exception would I have to throw? Do I need to create my own exception? public TelephoneNumber(String aString){ if(isPhoneNumberValid(aString)==true){ StringTokenizer tokens = new StringTokenizer("-"); if(tokens.countTokens()==3){ areaCode = Integer.parseInt(tokens.nextToken()); exchangeCode = Integer.parseInt(tokens.nextToken()); number = Integer.parseInt(tokens.nextToken()); } else if(tokens.countTokens()==2){ exchangeCode = Integer.parseInt(tokens.nextToken()); number = Integer.parseInt(tokens.nextToken()); } else{ //throw an excemption here } } } public static boolean isPhoneNumberValid(String phoneNumber){ boolean isValid = false; //Initialize reg ex for phone number. String expression = "(\\d{3})(\\[-])(\\d{4})$"; CharSequence inputStr = phoneNumber; Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(expression); Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(inputStr); if(matcher.matches()){ isValid = true; } return isValid; } Hi sorry, yes this is homework. For this assignments the only valid format are xxx-xxx-xxxx and xxx-xxxx, all other formats (xxx)xxx-xxxx or xxxxxxxxxx are invalid in this case. I would like to know if my regular expression is correct

  • Selectively parsing log files using Java

    - by GPX
I have to parse a big bunch of log files, which are in the following format. SOME SQL STATEMENT/QUERY DB20000I The SQL command completed successfully. SOME OTHER SQL STATEMENT/QUERY DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a valid Command Line Processor command. EDIT 1: The first 3 lines (including a blank line) indicate an SQL statement executed successfully, while the next three show the statement and the exception it caused. darioo's reply below, suggesting the use of grep instead of Java, works beautifully for a single line SQL statement. EDIT 2: However, the SQL statement/query might not be a single line, necessarily. Sometimes it is a big CREATE PROCEDURE...END PROCEDURE block. Can this problem be overcome using only Unix commands too? Now I need to parse through the entire log file and pick all occurrences of the pair of (SQL statement + error) and write them in a separate file. Please show me how to do this!

  • calling function in radiobutton group

    - by vijisai
thank you very much. with your help, i am now able to call the function for each radio button. however, i get a error message Reference to non-existent field 'ics_si' ics_si is my function, which has the following code, i do not know where i am making a mistake i have created the edit box for user to input the values for bore and stroke. and vdisp is calculated and the result is displayed in the third edit box. function ics_si_Callback(hObject, eventdata, handles) b = str2double(get(handles.bore,'String')); s = str2double(get(handles.stroke,'String')); vdisp = (pi * b * b * s*10^(-3))/4; set(handles.vdisp,'String',vdisp); this code must be called when i press the first or second radio button. i.e. when the radio button is pressed, it should call the function ics_si, calculate it and display the result. how to get this.

  • PHP regular expression subpattern behaviour

    - by codecowboy
I want to match both the src and title attributes of an image tag: pattern: <img [^>]*src=["|\']([^"|\']+["|\'])|title=["|\']([^"|\']+) target: <img src="http://someurl.jpg" class="quiz_caption" title="Caption goes here!"> This pattern gives me one unwanted match, title="content", and the match I actually want which is the value between the quotes after the word 'title', i.e 'content'. So, my matches are: <img src="http://someurl.jpg http://someurl.jpg title="Caption goes here!" Caption goes here! Is there a way to avoid the third of these matches? I'm using PCRE in PHP 5.2.x

  • Regular Expression to match unlimited number of options

    - by Pekka
I want to be able to parse file paths like this one: /var/www/index.(htm|html|php|shtml) into an ordered array: array("htm", "html", "php", "shtml") and then produce a list of alternatives: /var/www/index.htm /var/www/index.html /var/www/index.php /var/www/index.shtml Right now, I have a preg_match statement that can split two alternatives: preg_match_all ("/\(([^)]*)\|([^)]*)\)/", $path_resource, $matches); Could somebody give me a pointer how to extend this to accept an unlimited number of alternatives (at least two)? Just regarding the regular expression, the rest I can deal with. The rule is: The list needs to start with a ( and close with a ) There must be one | in the list (i.e. at least two alternatives) Any other occurrence(s) of ( or ) are to remain untouched.

  • Is it possible to "learn" a regular expression by user-provided examples?

    - by DR
Is it possible to "learn" a regular expression by user-provided examples? To clarify: I do not want to learn regular expressions. I want to create a program which "learns" a regular expression from examples which are interactively provided by a user, perhaps by selecting parts from a text or selecting begin or end markers. Is it possible? Are there algorithms, keywords, etc. which I can Google for? EDIT: Thank you for the answers, but I'm not interested in tools which provide this feature. I'm looking for theoretical information, like papers, tutorials, source code, names of algorithms, so I can create something for myself.
