  • OptionParser python module - multiple entries of same variable?

    - by jduncan
I'm writing a little python script to get stats from several servers or a single server, and I'm using OptionParser to parse the command line input. #!/usr/bin/python import sys from optparse import OptionParser ... parser.add_option("-s", "--server", dest="server", metavar="SERVER", type="string", help="server(s) to gather stats [default: localhost]") ... my GOAL is to be able to do something like #test.py -s server1 -s server2 and it would append both of those values within the options.server object in some way so that I could iterate through them, whether they have 1 value or 10. Any thoughts / help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • setting url in yaml file for google app engin (page not found) problem

    - by mswallace
I am new to python and I am super excited to learn. I am building my first app on app engin and I am not totally understanding why my yaml file is not resolving to the url that I set up. here is the code handlers: - url: .* script: main.py - url: /letmein/.* script: letmein.py so if I go to http://localhost:8080/letmein/ I get a link is brooken or page not found error. here is the python code that I have in letmein.py from google.appengine.ext import webapp from google.appengine.ext.webapp import util class LetMeInHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self): self.response.out.write('letmein!') def main(): application = webapp.WSGIApplication([('/letmein/', LetMeInHandler)], debug=True) util.run_wsgi_app(application) if __name__ == '__main__': main() thanks in advance for the help!

  • What's the right way to use idlestartup on python 2.6.5?

    - by user210481
Idlestartup is analogous to pythonstartup variable, but for IDLE, instead of command line. But it seems not to work properly. I'm using python 2.6.5 on Windows. I have the following script assigned to it: from pprint import pprint import sys newPath = 'C:\\Python26\test') sys.path.append(newPath) print "initial config loaded" Both variables Idlestartup and pythonstartup are assigned to the same file (script above). When running IDLE, pprint and sys are NOT available, the final message is NOT printed, but newPath was added to sys.path. Running the command line, pprint and sys are available, the final message is printed and newPath was added to sys.path. Is it a bug? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

  • Condition checking vs. Exception handling

    - by Aidas Bendoraitis
When is exception handling more preferable than condition checking? There are many situations where I can choose using one or the other. For example, this is a summing function which uses a custom exception: # module mylibrary class WrongSummand(Exception): pass def sum_(a, b): """ returns the sum of two summands of the same type """ if type(a) != type(b): raise WrongSummand("given arguments are not of the same type") return a + b # module application using mylibrary from mylibrary import sum_, WrongSummand try: print sum_("A", 5) except WrongSummand: print "wrong arguments" And this is the same function, which avoids using exceptions # module mylibrary def sum_(a, b): """ returns the sum of two summands if they are both of the same type """ if type(a) == type(b): return a + b # module application using mylibrary from mylibrary import sum_ c = sum_("A", 5) if c is not None: print c else: print "wrong arguments" I think that using conditions is always more readable and manageable. Or am I wrong? What are the proper cases for defining APIs which raise exceptions and why?

  • Converting the value from string to integer in a nested dictionary

    - by tom smith
I want to change the numbers in my dictionary to int values for use later in my program. So far I have import time import math x = 400 y = 300 def read_next_object(file): obj = {} for line in file: if not line.strip(): continue line = line.strip() key, val = line.split(": ") if key in obj and key == "Object": yield obj obj = {} obj[key] = val yield obj planets = {} with open( "smallsolar.txt", 'r') as f: for obj in read_next_object(f): planets[obj["Object"]] = obj print(planets) scale=250/int(max([planets[x]["Orbital Radius"] for x in planets if "Orbital Radius" in planets[x]])) print(scale) and the output is {'Sun': {'Object': 'Sun', 'Satellites': 'Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune,Ceres,Pluto,Haumea,Makemake,Eris', 'Orbital Radius': '0', 'RootObject': 'Sun', 'Radius': '20890260'}, 'Moon': {'Object': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '18128500', 'Period': '27.321582', 'Radius': '1737000.10'}, 'Earth': {'Object': 'Earth', 'Satellites': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '77098290', 'Period': '365.256363004', 'Radius': '6371000.0'}} 3.2426140709476178e-06 I want to be able to convert the numbers in the dict to ints for further use. Any help in greatly appreciated.

  • How to setup Xcode 3.1.4 with Perforce ?

    - by Azeworai
Hi everyone, I've been trying to setup Xcode with Perforce for about 7 hours now and managed to get the Perforce Repository Authenticated within Xcode. The problem I have is, within the repositories window, I don't see any directories for me to check out. I can see the p4root login and client are ok with the tick on the repository log. When I try to Import an xcode project directory within the Perforce root directory- the import fails with '/Users/jackson/p4root/alpha/MessageTapper' is not under the Perforce root. I have p4d running on the local machine, and have created a user and workspace. The workspace has the directories in view. I'm hoping for someone to give me some direction or maybe point me to a good reference to how to set perforce up with xcode. Thanks!

  • Gui problem after rewriting to MVC

    - by trevor_nise
I'm practicing MVC style programming. I have a Mastermind game in a single file, working with no problems (maybe apart of the fact that "Check" button is invisible at start). http://paste.pocoo.org/show/226726/ But when I've rewritten it to model, view, controller files - when I click on empty Pin (that should be updated, and repainted with new color) - noting happens. Can anybody see any problems here ? I've tried placing repaint() in different places, but it simply does not work at all :/ Main : public class Main { public static void main(String[] args){ Model model = new Model(); View view = new View("Mastermind", 400, 590, model); • Dynamically creating page definitions in Cherrypy

    - by Hugh
Hi, I've been looking around the CherryPy documentation, but can't quite get my head around what I want to do. I suspect it might be more of a Python thing than a CherryPy thing... My current class looks something like this: import managerUtils class WebManager: def A(self, **kwds): return managerUtils.runAction("A", kwds) A.enabled = True def B(self, **kwds): return managerUtils.runAction("B", kwds) B.enabled = True def C(self, **kwds): return managerUtils.runAction("C", kwds) C.enabled = True Obviously there's a lot of repetition in here. in managerUtils.py, I have a dict that's something like: actions = {'A': functionToRunForA, 'B': functionToRunForB, 'C': functionToRunForC} Okay, so that's a slightly simplistic view of it, but I'm sure you get the idea. I want to be able to do something like: import managerUtils class WebManager: def __init__(self): for action in managerUtils.actions: f = registerFunction(action) f.enabled = True Any ideas of how to do this?

  • Multiprocessing Bomb

    - by iKarampa
I was working the following example from Doug Hellmann tutorial on multiprocessing: import multiprocessing def worker(): """worker function""" print 'Worker' return if __name__ == '__main__': jobs = [] for i in range(5): p = multiprocessing.Process(target=worker) jobs.append(p) p.start() When I tried to run it outside the if statement: import multiprocessing def worker(): """worker function""" print 'Worker' jobs = [] for i in range(5): p = multiprocessing.Process(target=worker) jobs.append(p) p.start() It started spawning processes non-stop, without any way of to terminating it. Why would that happen? Why it did not generate 5 processes and exit? Why do I need the if statement?

  • Python: Converting a tuple to a string with 'err'

    - by skylarking
Given this : import os import subprocess def check_server(): cl = subprocess.Popen(["nmap","10.7.1.71"], stdout=subprocess.PIPE) result = cl.communicate() print result check_server() check_server() returns this tuple: ('\nStarting Nmap 4.53 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2010-04-07 07:26 EDT\nInteresting ports on 10.7.1.71:\nNot shown: 1711 closed ports\nPORT STATE SERVICE\n21/tcp open ftp\n22/tcp open ssh\n80/tcp open http\n\nNmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.293 seconds\n', None) Changing the second line in the method to result, err = cl.communicate() results in check_server() returning : Starting Nmap 4.53 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2010-04-07 07:27 EDT Interesting ports on 10.7.1.71: Not shown: 1711 closed ports PORT STATE SERVICE 21/tcp open ftp 22/tcp open ssh 80/tcp open http Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.319 seconds Looks to be the case that the tuple is converted to a string, and the \n's are being stripped.... but how? What is 'err' and what exactly is it doing?

  • Python urllib3 and how to handle cookie support?

    - by bigredbob
So I'm looking into urllib3 because it has connection pooling and is thread safe (so performance is better, especially for crawling), but the documentation is... minimal to say the least. urllib2 has build_opener so something like: #!/usr/bin/python import cookielib, urllib2 cj = cookielib.CookieJar() opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(cj)) r = opener.open("http://example.com/") But urllib3 has no build_opener method, so the only way I have figured out so far is to manually put it in the header: #!/usr/bin/python import urllib3 http_pool = urllib3.connection_from_url("http://example.com") myheaders = {'Cookie':'some cookie data'} r = http_pool.get_url("http://example.org/", headers=myheaders) But I am hoping there is a better way and that one of you can tell me what it is. Also can someone tag this with "urllib3" please.

  • keyDown works but i get beeps

    - by Oscar
    I just got my keydown method to work. But i get system beep everytime i press key. i have no idea whats wrong. Googled for hours and all people say is that if you have your keyDown method you should also implement the acceptsFirstResponder. did that to and it still doesn't work. #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> #import "PaddleView.h" #import "BallView.h" @interface GameController : NSView { PaddleView *leftPaddle; PaddleView *rightPaddle; BallView * ball; CGPoint ballVelocity; int gameState; int player1Score; int player2Score; } @property (retain) IBOutlet PaddleView *leftPaddle; @property (retain) IBOutlet PaddleView *rightPaddle; @property (retain) IBOutlet BallView *ball; - (void)reset:(BOOL)newGame; @end #import "GameController.h" #define GameStateRunning 1 #define GameStatePause 2 #define BallSpeedX 0.2 #define BallSpeedY 0.3 #define CompMoveSpeed 15 #define ScoreToWin 5 @implementation GameController @synthesize leftPaddle, rightPaddle, ball; - (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)aDecoder { self = [super initWithCoder:aDecoder]; if(self) { gameState = GameStatePause; ballVelocity = CGPointMake(BallSpeedX, BallSpeedY); [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.001 target:self selector:@selector(gameLoop) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } return self; } - (void)gameLoop { if(gameState == GameStateRunning) { [ball setFrameOrigin:CGPointMake(ball.frame.origin.x + ballVelocity.x, ball.frame.origin.y + ballVelocity.y)]; if(ball.frame.origin.x + 15 > self.frame.size.width || ball.frame.origin.x < 0) { ballVelocity.x =- ballVelocity.x; } if(ball.frame.origin.y + 35 > self.frame.size.height || ball.frame.origin.y < 0) { ballVelocity.y =- ballVelocity.y; } } if(CGRectIntersectsRect(ball.frame, leftPaddle.frame)) { if(ball.frame.origin.x > leftPaddle.frame.origin.x) { ballVelocity.x =- ballVelocity.x; } } if(CGRectIntersectsRect(ball.frame, rightPaddle.frame)) { if(ball.frame.origin.x +15 > rightPaddle.frame.origin.x) { ballVelocity.x =- ballVelocity.x; } } if(ball.frame.origin.x <= self.frame.size.width / 2) { if(ball.frame.origin.y < leftPaddle.frame.origin.y + 75 && leftPaddle.frame.origin.y > 0) { [leftPaddle setFrameOrigin:CGPointMake(leftPaddle.frame.origin.x, leftPaddle.frame.origin.y - CompMoveSpeed)]; } if(ball.frame.origin.y > leftPaddle.frame.origin.y +75 && leftPaddle.frame.origin.y < 700 - leftPaddle.frame.size.height ) { [leftPaddle setFrameOrigin:CGPointMake(leftPaddle.frame.origin.x, leftPaddle.frame.origin.y + CompMoveSpeed)]; } } if(ball.frame.origin.x <= 0) { player2Score++; [self reset:(player2Score >= ScoreToWin)]; } if(ball.frame.origin.x + 15 > self.frame.size.width) { player1Score++; [self reset:(player1Score >= ScoreToWin)]; } } - (void)reset:(BOOL)newGame { gameState = GameStatePause; [ball setFrameOrigin:CGPointMake((self.frame.size.width + 7.5) / 2, (self.frame.size.height + 7.5)/2)]; if(newGame) { if(player1Score > player2Score) { NSLog(@"Player 1 Wins!"); } else { NSLog(@"Player 2 Wins!"); } player1Score = 0; player2Score = 0; } else { NSLog(@"Press key to serve"); } NSLog(@"Player 1: %d",player1Score); NSLog(@"Player 2: %d",player2Score); } - (void)moveRightPaddleUp { if(rightPaddle.frame.origin.y < 700 - rightPaddle.frame.size.height) { [rightPaddle setFrameOrigin:CGPointMake(rightPaddle.frame.origin.x, rightPaddle.frame.origin.y + 20)]; } } - (void)moveRightPaddleDown { if(rightPaddle.frame.origin.y > 0) { [rightPaddle setFrameOrigin:CGPointMake(rightPaddle.frame.origin.x, rightPaddle.frame.origin.y - 20)]; } } - (BOOL)acceptsFirstResponder { return YES; } - (void)keyDown:(NSEvent *)theEvent { if ([theEvent modifierFlags] & NSNumericPadKeyMask) { NSString *theArrow = [theEvent charactersIgnoringModifiers]; unichar keyChar = 0; if ( [theArrow length] == 0 ) { return; // reject dead keys } if ( [theArrow length] == 1 ) { keyChar = [theArrow characterAtIndex:0]; if ( keyChar == NSLeftArrowFunctionKey ) { gameState = GameStateRunning; } if ( keyChar == NSRightArrowFunctionKey ) { } if ( keyChar == NSUpArrowFunctionKey ) { [self moveRightPaddleUp]; } if ( keyChar == NSDownArrowFunctionKey ) { [self moveRightPaddleDown]; } [super keyDown:theEvent]; } } else { [super keyDown:theEvent]; } } - (void)drawRect:(NSRect)dirtyRect { } - (void)dealloc { [ball release]; [rightPaddle release]; [leftPaddle release]; [super dealloc]; } @end

  • How to use pom.xml/Maven to initialize a local thoughtsite (App Engine sample) project in Eclipse?

    - by ovr
This sample app ("thoughtsite") for App Engine contains a pom.xml in its trunk: http://code.google.com/p/thoughtsite/source/browse/#svn/trunk But I don't know what command to run in Maven to set up the project locally. (The README doesn't mention anything about Maven.) I tried to just import the project code directly into Eclipse but it doesn't look like it's in an appropriate format for a direct import. So I assume I need to do something with Maven to get it set up correctly. I haven't really used Maven before so I'm not sure what command I would need to run to set everything up. The pom.xml seems like it downloads a bunch of dependencies for the project like the Spring jar files which I don't see anywhere else in the svn repository.

  • Problem evaluating NULL in an IIF statement (Access)

    - by Mohgeroth
Item in the recordset rstImportData("Flat Size") is = Null With that, given the following statement: IIF(IsNull(rstImportData("Flat Size")), Null, cstr(rstImportData("Flat Size"))) Result: Throws error 94: Invalid use of Null If I change the statement by removing the type conversion upon a false comparison: IIF(IsNull(rstImportData("Flat Size")), Null, 0) Result: Null It returns Null as it should have the first time. It appears that I cannot do a type conversion in an IIF if the value passed in should ever be null even if it passes an IIF test, it still attempts to evaluate it at both the true and false answer. The only reason I'm using IIF like this is because I have a 25 line comparison to compare data from an Import against a matching record in a database to see if I need to append the prior to history. Any thoughts? The way data is imported there will be null dates and where the spreadsheet import is in a string format I must convert either side to the other to compare the values properly but if either side is null this exception occurs :(

  • How can I draw a log-normalized imshow plot with a colorbar representing the raw data in matplotlib

    - by Adam Fraser
I'm using matplotlib to plot log-normalized images but I would like the original raw image data to be represented in the colorbar rather than the [0-1] interval. I get the feeling there's a more matplotlib'y way of doing this by using some sort of normalization object and not transforming the data beforehand... in any case, there could be negative values in the raw image. import matplotlib.pyplot as plt import numpy as np def log_transform(im): '''returns log(image) scaled to the interval [0,1]''' try: (min, max) = (im[im > 0].min(), im.max()) if (max > min) and (max > 0): return (np.log(im.clip(min, max)) - np.log(min)) / (np.log(max) - np.log(min)) except: pass return im a = np.ones((100,100)) for i in range(100): a[i] = i f = plt.figure() ax = f.add_subplot(111) res = ax.imshow(log_transform(a)) # the colorbar drawn shows [0-1], but I want to see [0-99] cb = f.colorbar(res) I've tried using cb.set_array, but that didn't appear to do anything, and cb.set_clim, but that rescales the colors completely. Thanks in advance for any help :)

What is this Ord?

  • Event handling for keyboard strokes

Anyone has any idea what I should be doing instead? Thanks

  • How to make scipy.interpolate give a an extrapolated result beyond the input range?

    - by Salim Fadhley
I'm trying to port a program which uses a hand-rolled interpolator (developed by a mathematitian colleage) over to use the interpolators provided by scipy. I'd like to use or wrap the scipy interpolator so that it has as close as possible behavior to the old interpolator. A key difference between the two functions is that in our original interpolator - if the input value is above or below the input range, our original interpolator will extrapolate the result. If you try this with the scipy interpolator it raises a ValueError. Consider this program as an example: import numpy as np from scipy import interpolate x = np.arange(0,10) y = np.exp(-x/3.0) f = interpolate.interp1d(x, y) print f(9) print f(11) # Causes ValueError, because it's greater than max(x) Is there a sensible way to make it so that instead of crashing, the final line will simply do a linear extrapolate, continuing the gradients defined by the first and last two pouints to infinity. Note, that in the real software I'm not actually using the exp function - that's here for illustration only!

  • Improve a haskell script

    - by Hector Villalobos
    I'm a newbie in Haskell and I'd like some opinions about improving this script. This is a code generator and requires a command line argument to generate the sql script. ./GenCode "people name:string age:integer" Code: import Data.List import System.Environment (getArgs) create_table :: String -> String create_table str = "CREATE TABLE " ++ h (words str) where h (x:xs) = let cab = x final = xs in x ++ "( " ++ create_fields xs ++ ")" create_fields (x:xs) = takeWhile (/=':') x ++ type x ++ sig where sig | length xs > 0 = "," ++ create_fields xs | otherwise = " " ++ create_fields xs create_fields [] = "" type x | isInfixOf "string" x = " CHARACTER VARYING" | isInfixOf "integer" x = " INTEGER" | isInfixOf "date" x = " DATE" | isInfixOf "serial" x = " SERIAL" | otherwise = "" main = mainWith where mainWith = do args <- getArgs case args of [] -> putStrLn $ "You need one argument" (x:xs) -> putStrLn $ (create_table x)

  • How does one encrypt site passwords for a Dreamweaver export file?

    - by ngreenwood6
We have over 500 sites that we host. All of their ftp information is in a database. Whenever one of our programmers have to add a site they have to get all the info and set it up. However, I found that you can export them and it has all the info except for one problem. The password is encrypted. I am not trying to hack anything, I want to know how to encrypt our passwords so that we can import them using dreamweavers import feature. Can anyone tell me what encryption they use or a link on how to encrypt. I am not interested in decrypting at all because we already have all of them so it would not do me any good.

  • For Loop help In a Hash Cracker Homework.

    - by aaron burns
    On the homework I am working on we are making a hash cracker. I am implementing it so as to have my cracker. java call worker.java. Worker.java implements Runnable. Worker is to take the start and end of a list of char, the hash it is to crack, and the max length of the password that made the hash. I know I want to do a loop in run() BUT I cannot think of how I would do it so it would go to the given max pasword length. I have posted the code I have so far. Any directions or areas I should look into.... I thought there was a way to do this with a certain way to write the loop but I don't know or can't find the correct syntax. Oh.. also. In main I divide up so x amount of threads can be chosen and I know that as of write now it only works for an even number of the 40 possible char given. package HashCracker; import java.util.*; import java.security.MessageDigest; import java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException; public class Cracker { // Array of chars used to produce strings public static final char[] CHARS = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789.,-!".toCharArray(); public static final int numOfChar=40; /* Given a byte[] array, produces a hex String, such as "234a6f". with 2 chars for each byte in the array. (provided code) */ public static String hexToString(byte[] bytes) { StringBuffer buff = new StringBuffer(); for (int i=0; i<bytes.length; i++) { int val = bytes[i]; val = val & 0xff; // remove higher bits, sign if (val<16) buff.append('0'); // leading 0 buff.append(Integer.toString(val, 16)); } return buff.toString(); } /* Given a string of hex byte values such as "24a26f", creates a byte[] array of those values, one byte value -128..127 for each 2 chars. (provided code) */ public static byte[] hexToArray(String hex) { byte[] result = new byte[hex.length()/2]; for (int i=0; i<hex.length(); i+=2) { result[i/2] = (byte) Integer.parseInt(hex.substring(i, i+2), 16); } return result; } public static void main(String args[]) throws NoSuchAlgorithmException { if(args.length==1)//Hash Maker { //create a byte array , meassage digestand put password into it //and get out a hash value printed to the screen using provided methods. byte[] myByteArray=args[0].getBytes(); MessageDigest hasher=MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA-1"); hasher.update(myByteArray); byte[] digestedByte=hasher.digest(); String hashValue=Cracker.hexToString(digestedByte); System.out.println(hashValue); } else//Hash Cracker { ArrayList<Thread> myRunnables=new ArrayList<Thread>(); int numOfThreads = Integer.parseInt(args[2]); int charPerThread=Cracker.numOfChar/numOfThreads; int start=0; int end=charPerThread-1; for(int i=0; i<numOfThreads; i++) { //creates, stores and starts threads. Runnable tempWorker=new Worker(start, end, args[1], Integer.parseInt(args[1])); Thread temp=new Thread(tempWorker); myRunnables.add(temp); temp.start(); start=end+1; end=end+charPerThread; } } } import java.util.*; public class Worker implements Runnable{ private int charStart; private int charEnd; private String Hash2Crack; private int maxLength; public Worker(int start, int end, String hashValue, int maxPWlength) { charStart=start; charEnd=end; Hash2Crack=hashValue; maxLength=maxPWlength; } public void run() { byte[] myHash2Crack_=Cracker.hexToArray(Hash2Crack); for(int i=charStart; i<charEnd+1; i++) { Cracker.numOfChar[i]////// this is where I am stuck. } } }

  • Convert jpg Byte[] to Texture2D

    - by Damien Sawyer
I need to import jpeg images into a WP7/XNA app with associated metadata. The program which manages these images exports to an XML file with an encoded byte[] of the jpg files. I've written a custom importer/processor which successfully imports the reserialized objects into my XNA project. My question is, given the byte[] of the jpg, what is the best way to convert it back to Texture2D. // 'Standard' method for importing image Texture2D texture1 = Content.Load<Texture2D>("artwork"); // Uses the standard Content processor "Texture - XNA Framework" to import an image. // 'Custom' method var myCustomObject = Content.Load<CompiledBNBImage>("gamedata"); // Uses my custom content Processor to return POCO "CompiledBNBImage" byte[] myJPEGByteArray = myCustomObject.Image; // byte[] of jpeg Texture2D texture2 = ???? // What is the best way to convert myJPEGByteArray to a Texture2D? Thanks very much for your help. :-) DS
