  • Add Source file link to the default ASP.NET Server Error page?

    - by Max Schilling
    Has anyone ever thought to attempt to modify the default ASP.NET Server error page to provide a link BACK to the error source in Visual Studio? Consider the following standard error page in ASP.NET: Server Error in '/myproject' Application. Invalid object name 'usp_DoSomething'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'usp_DoSomething'. Source Error: Line 4323: cmd.CommandText = "usp_DoSomething"; Line 4324: Line 4325: using (var dr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) Line 4326: { Line 4327: if (dr != null) Source File: c:\development\myproject\myproject.components\providers\sql\sqldataprovider.cs Line: 4325 When an error like this is generated, the HTML has the source back to the file the error occurs in and the line number. Has anyone ever written or thought of writing some mechanism to turn the text into a link back to the error in Visual Studio? I've never seen anything that does it, but it just seems like it would be a helluva nice feature and I think about it in the back of my mind every time an error occurs when I have to manually go find it in the source. It would just be nice to be able to click a link to take me straight there. Anyone written any, or know of any solutions for this. I use Chrome or Firefox as my browsers of choice, but I'd even consider using IE again if someone found a plugin that did this. Thanks, Max

  • Choosing approach for an IM client-server app

    - by John
    Update: totally re-wrote this to be more succint. I'm looking at a new application, one part of which will be very similar to standard IM clients, i.e text chat, ability to send attachments, maybe some real-time interaction like a multi-user whiteboard. It will be client-server, i.e all traffic goes through my central server. That means if I want to support cross-communication with other IM systems, I am still free to pick any protocol for my own client<--server communication - my server can use XMPP or whatever to talk to other systems. Clients are expected to include desktop apps, but probably also browser-based as well either through Flex/Silverlight or HTML/AJAX. I see 3 options for my own client-server communication layer: XMPP. The benefits are clients already exist as do open-source servers. However it requires the most up-front research/learning and also appears like it might raise legal issues due to GPL. Custom sockets. A server app makes connections with the clients, allowing any text/binary data to be sent very fast. However this approach requires building said server from scratch, and also makes a JS client tricky Servlets (or similar web server). Using tried and tested Java web-stack, clients send HTTP requests similar to AJAX-based websites. The benefit is the server is easy to write using well-established technologies, and easy to talk to. But what restrictions would this bring? Is it appropriate technology for real-time communication? Advice and suggests are welcome, especially what pros and cons surround using a web-server approach as compared to a socket-based approach.

  • Android :WindowManager$BadTockenException on Spinner Click

    - by Miya
    Hi, I have a spinner in my home.class. When I click on the spinner, the process is stopped showing exception that WindowManager$BadTockenException is caught. I am calling this home.class from main.class which extends ActivityGroup. If I am simply run only the home.class, the spinner is showing all items. But the problem is only with calling home.class from main.class. The following are my code. Please tell me why this is happened. main.class public class main extends ActivityGroup { public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); Intent intent=new Intent(this,home.class); View view=getLocalActivityManager().startActivity("1", intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP)).getDecorView(); setContentView(view); } } home.class String[] country={"Please selects","US","INDIA","UK"}; Spinner s2 = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinnerCountry); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapterCountry=new ArrayAdapter(this,android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item,country); adapterCountry.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); s2.setAdapter(adapterCountry); s2.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() { public void onItemSelected( AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { countryName=country[position]; } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parent) { countryName=country[0]; } }); Stack Thread [<1 main] (Suspended (exception WindowManager$BadTokenException)) AlertDialog(Dialog).show() line: 245 AlertDialog$Builder.show() line: 802 Spinner.performClick() line: 260 View$PerformClick.run() line: 9080 ViewRoot(Handler).handleCallback(Message) line: 587 ViewRoot(Handler).dispatchMessage(Message) line: 92 Looper.loop() line: 123 ActivityThread.main(String[]) line: 3647 Method.invokeNative(Object, Object[], Class, Class[], Class, int, boolean) line: not available [native method] Method.invoke(Object, Object...) line: 507 ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run() line: 839 ZygoteInit.main(String[]) line: 597 NativeStart.main(String[]) line: not available [native method] Thank You....

  • Intercept creation of activities when the application is restored

    - by Johan Bilien
    Most of our activities access a user-specific model. All these activities inherit from a ModelActivity base class, which provides a getModel() call. When one of these activities detect that the user has signed out (through the AccountManager callback), it sticks to its existing model, but prepares to exit back to the root activity (which is not user-specific) by starting its intent with FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP. If however the user deletes an account while the app is not running, we run into trouble when the activity is restored. Now the activity needs to handle there not being a model, which makes the code more complicated and bug-prone. Ideally we would intercept the application restore process before the activity is created. Then we would check whether we have an account and a model, and if not clear up the saved stack of activities, and restart from our root activity instead of the last saved activity. But as far as I can tell the first place where we can run code is in the onCreate callback of the activity. Is there a way to run some code when the application is restored from background-saving, but before the saved activity is created?

  • Multiple File upload doesnot work in CI

    - by sabuj
    Hi I have used Jquery Plugin to upload multiple file with CI. It works fine for one file but if i try to upload more than one file it doesnot work it gives the result like this"menu_back9.pngmenu_back9.png.jpg". function do_upload() { $config['upload_path'] = './uploads/'; // server directory $config['allowed_types'] = 'gif|jpg|png'; // by extension, will check for whether it is an image $config['max_size'] = '1000'; // in kb $config['max_width'] = '1024'; $config['max_height'] = '768'; $this-load-library('upload', $config); $this-load-library('Multi_upload'); $files = $this-multi_upload-go_upload(); if ( ! $files ) { $error = array('error' => $this->upload->display_errors()); $this->load->view('admin/add_digital_product', $error); } else { foreach($files as $file) { $pic_name = $file['name']; echo $pic_name; } exit; $data = array( 'dg_image_1'=$picture, 'dgproduct_name'=$this-input-post('dgproduct_name',TRUE), 'dgproduct_description'=$this-input-post('dgproduct_description',TRUE), 'url_additional'=$this-input-post('url_additional',TRUE), 'url_stored'=$this-input-post('url_stored',TRUE), 'delivery_format'=$this-input-post('delivery_format',TRUE), 'item_size'=$this-input-post('item_size',TRUE), 'price'=$this-input-post('price',TRUE), 'item_code'=$this-input-post('item_code',TRUE), 'payment_pro_code'=$this-input-post('payment_pro_code',TRUE), 'delivery_time'=$this-input-post('delivery_time',TRUE), 'thankyou_message'=$this-input-post('thankyou_message',TRUE), ); $this-db-insert('sm_digital_product',$data); redirect(site_url().'admin/admins'); } } I used avobe code If any body know please tell me.   • Skip subdirectory in python import

    - by jstaab
    Ok, so I'm trying to change this: app/ - lib.py - models.py - blah.py Into this: app/ - __init__.py - lib.py - models/ - __init__.py - user.py - account.py - banana.py - blah.py And still be able to import my models using from app.models import User rather than having to change it to from app.models.user import User all over the place. Basically, I want everything to treat the package as a single module, but be able to navigate the code in separate files for development ease. The reason I can't do something like add for file in __all__: from file import * into init.py is I have circular references between the model files. A fix I don't want is to import those models from within the functions that use them. But that's super ugly. Let me give you an example: user.py ... from app.models import Banana ... banana.py ... from app.models import User ... I wrote a quick pre-processing script that grabs all the files, re-writes them to put imports at the top, and puts it into models.py, but that's hardly an improvement, since now my stack traces don't show the line number I actually need to change. Any ideas? I always though init was probably magical but now that I dig into it, I can't find anything that lets me provide myself this really simple convenience.

  • Learning OOP in PHP, trying to refactor my code. Can't connect to database anymore.

    - by Cortopasta
    Thought I understood how classes work, then I tried this code: class user { var $dbcon; var $dbinfo; var $con; var $error; function dbConnect() { $this->dbinfo['server'] = "localhost"; $this->dbinfo['database'] = "foolish_faith"; $this->dbinfo['user'] = "user"; $this->dbinfo['password'] = "password"; $this->con = "mysql:host=".$dbinfo['server']."; dbname=".$dbinfo['database']; $this->dbcon = new PDO($con, $dbinfo['user'], $dbinfo['password']); $this->dbcon->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION); $this->error = $this->dbcon->errorInfo(); if ($error[0] != "") { print "Error!"; print_r($error); } } } Now it just spits out this error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'invalid data source name' in E:\PortableApps\xampp\htdocs\dbcon.php:24 Stack trace: #0 E:\PortableApps\xampp\htdocs\dbcon.php(24): PDO-__construct('', NULL, NULL) #1 E:\PortableApps\xampp\htdocs\login.php(4): user-dbConnect() #2 {main} thrown in E:\PortableApps\xampp\htdocs\dbcon.php on line 24 Can anybody see what I'm doing wrong, as I'm sure it has to do with my lack of knowledge when it comes to classes?

  • In Ruby or Python can the very idea of Class be rewritten?

    - by John Berryman
    Howdy All... first time at stack overflow. I'm looking into using some of the metaprogramming features provided by Ruby or Python, but first I need to know the extent to which they will allow me to extend the language. The main thing I need to be able to do is to rewrite the concept of Class. This doesn't mean that I want to rewrite a specific class during run time, but rather I want to make my own conceptualization of what a Class is. To be a smidge more specific here, I want to make something that is like what people normally call a Class, but I want to follow an "open world" assumption. In the "closed world" of normal Classes, if I declare Poodle to be a subclass of Dog to be a subclass of Animal, then I know that Poodle is not going to also be a type of FurCoat. However, in an open world Class, then the Poodle object I've defined may or may not be and object of type FurCoat and we won't know for sure until I explain that I can wear the poodle. (Poor poodle.) This all has to do with a study I'm doing concerning OWL ontologies. Just so you know, I've tried to find information online, but due to the overloading of terms here I haven't found anything helpful. Super thanks, John

  • Why does PDO print my password when the connection fails?

    - by Joe Hopfgartner
    I have a simple website where I establish a connection to a Mysql server using PDO. $dbh = new PDO('mysql:host=localhost;dbname=DB;port=3306', 'USER', 'SECRET',array(PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_INIT_COMMAND => "SET NAMES utf8")); I had some traffic on my site and the servers connection limit was reached, and the website throw this error, with my PLAIN password in it! Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[08004] [1040] Too many connections' in /home/premiumize-me/html/index.php:64 Stack trace: #0 /home/premiumize-me/html/index.php(64): PDO-__construct('mysql:host=loca...', 'USER', 'SECRET', Array) #1 {main} thrown in /home/premiumize-me/html/index.php on line 64 Ironically I switched to PDO for security reasons, this really shocked me. Because this exact error is something you can provoke very easily on most sites using simple http flooding. I now wrapped my conenction into a try/catch clause, but still. I think this is catastrophic! So I am new to PDO and my questino is: What do I have to consider to be safe! How to I establish a connection in a secure way? Are there other known security holes like this one that I have to be aware of?

  • Typical Search, Result and Detail Workflow Staying Within an Android Tab

    - by Justin
    So, I've been banging my head looking for a good solution for a few days and am stuck. I have a search screen (Activity) in a tab, and after the user enters a value and clicks "search" I would like the results to come back in that same tab, and then if an item from the results is selected, to show more detailed results, in that same tab. I have it all working now in separate activities, and even the first step working in a tab, but as soon as I call the activity to process he search results... i.e. startActivity(i); for the results Activity, the results displayed are not in the tab! I am having a very difficult time getting this flow to work all under a tab. Any thoughts on how to make this happen? I keep hearing that Android views should be used instead of activities, but am I then to assume that all the logic I have right now for 3 activity needs to go inside 1 activity and then I need to handle setting the content and state for each of these cases? Plus, won't the history stack not work as pressing the back button will take the user out of the application, instead of taking them from say the search result to the search screen, or the details to the search results, etc. This seems like a mess. Can anyone show a more complex example of tabs or how one might have a simple search, result and detail workflow staying in a tab? I have seen a few questions on this concept of keeping activities "within a tab", but no good resolution. Please help.

  • The Purpose of a Service Layer and ASP.NET MVC 2

    - by user332022
    In an effort to understand MVC 2 and attempt to get my company to adopt it as a viable platform for future development, I have been doing a lot of reading lately. Having worked with ASP.NET pretty exclusively for the past few years, I had some catching up to do. Currently, I understand the repository pattern, models, controllers, data annotations, etc. But there is one thing that is keeping me from completely understanding enough to start work on a reference application. The first is the Service Layer Pattern. I have read many blog posts and questions here on Stack Overflow, but I still don't completely understand the purpose of this pattern. I watched the entire video series at MVCCentral on the Golf Tracker Application and also looked at the demo code he posted and it looks to me like the service layer is just another wrapper around the repository pattern that doesn't perform any work at all. I also read this post: http://www.asp.net/Learn/mvc/tutorial-38-cs.aspx and it seemed to somewhat answer my question, however, if you are using data annotations to perform your validation, this seems unnecessary. I have looked for demonstrations, posts, etc. but I can't seem to find anything that simply explains the pattern and gives me compelling evidence to use it. Can someone please provide me with a 2nd grade (ok, maybe 5th grade) reason to use this pattern, what I would lose if I don't, and what I gain if I do?a

  • Confused about Android API's and compatability

    - by Keith
    I have purchased an HTC Incredible and have dived into the world of android! Only to find myself totally confused about the API levels and backward compatibility. My device runs the 2.1 OS, but I know that most of the devices out there run 1.5 or 1.6; and soon the 2.2 OS will be running on new devices. The SDK has gone through such enormous changes, that even constants have been renamed (from VIEW_ACTION to ACTION_VIEW for example). Methods have been added and removed (onPause replacing the earlier call, etc al). So, If I want to write an application that will work from 1.6+, does that mean I have to install and write my code using the 1.6 API; then test on later versions? Or can I write using the 2.1 SDK and just set the minSDK level and not use "new" features? I have never worked with an SDK that changes SO drastically from release to release! So I am not sure what to do.... I read through an article on the Android Development site(and this posting on stack overflow that references it: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2076150/should-a-legacy-android-application-be-rebuilt-using-sdk-2-1), but it was still not very clear to me. Any help would be appreciated

  • how do i make the app take correct input..?

    - by user1824343
    This is my windows app's one layout which converts Celsius to Fahrenheit. The problem is that when I try to input the temperature it shows some junk(for eg: if i enter '3' it displayin '3.0000009') and sometimes its even showing stack overflow exception. The output is also not shown properly : cel.text is the textbox for celsius. fahre.text is the textbox for fahrenheit. namespace PanoramaApp1 { public partial class FahretoCel : PhoneApplicationPage { public FahretoCel() { InitializeComponent(); } private void fahre_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { if (fahre.Text != "") { try { double F = Convert.ToDouble(fahre.Text); cel.Text = "" + ((5.0/9.0) * (F - 32)) ; //this is conversion expression } catch (FormatException) { fahre.Text = ""; cel.Text = ""; } } else { cel.Text = ""; } } private void cel_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { if (cel.Text != "") { try { Double c = Convert.ToDouble(cel.Text); fahre.Text = "" + ((c *(9.0 / 5.0 )) + 32); } catch (FormatException) { fahre.Text = ""; cel.Text = ""; } } else { fahre.Text = ""; } } } }

  • Is there a case for parameterising using Abstract classes rather than Interfaces?

    - by Chris
    I'm currently developing a component based API that is heavily stateful. The top level components implement around a dozen interfaces each. The stock top-level components therefore sit ontop of a stack of Abstract implementations which in turn contain multiple mixin implementations and implement multiple mixin interfaces. So far, so good (I hope). The problem is that the base functionality is extremely complex to implement (1,000s of lines in 5 layers of base classes) and therefore I do not wish for component writers to implement the interfaces themselves but rather to extend my base classes (where all the boiler plate code is already written). If the API therefore accepts interfaces rather than references to the Abstract implementation that I wish for component writers to extends, then I have a risk that the implementer will not perform the validation that is both required and assumed by other areas of code. Therefore, my question is, is it sometimes valid to paramerise API methods using an abstract implementation reference rather than a reference to the interface(s) that it implements? Do you have an example of a well-designed API that uses this technique or am I trying to talk myself into bad-practice?

  • why cannot use uncaught_exception in dtor?

    - by camino
    Hi , Herb Sutter in his article http://www.gotw.ca/gotw/047.htm pointed out that we cannot use uncaught_exception in desturctor function, // Why the wrong solution is wrong // U::~U() { try { T t; // do work } catch( ... ) { // clean up } } If a U object is destroyed due to stack unwinding during to exception propagation, T::~T will fail to use the "code that could throw" path even though it safely could. but I write a test program, and T::~T in fact didn't use the "code that could throw" #include <exception> #include <iostream> using namespace std; class T { public: ~T() { if( !std::uncaught_exception() ) { cout<<"can throw"<<endl; throw 1; } else { cout<<"cannot throw"<<endl; } } }; struct U { ~U() { try { T t; } catch( ... ) { } } }; void f() { U u; throw 2; } int main() { try { f(); } catch(...) {} } output is : cannot throw did I miss something? Thanks

  • In Lua, how to pass vararg to another function while also taking a peek at them?

    - by romkyns
    It seems that in Lua, I can either pass vararg on to another function, or take a peek at them through arg, but not both. Here's an example: function a(marker, ...) print(marker) print(#arg, arg[1],arg[2]) end function b(marker, ...) print(marker) destination("--2--", ...) end function c(marker, ...) print(marker) print(#arg, arg[1],arg[2]) destination("--3--", ...) end function destination(marker, ...) print(marker) print(#arg, arg[1],arg[2]) end Observe that a only looks at the varargs, b only passes them on, while c does both. Here are the results: >> a("--1--", "abc", "def") --1-- 2 abc def >> b("--1--", "abc", "def") --1-- --2-- 2 abc def >> c("--1--", "abc", "def") --1-- test.lua:13: attempt to get length of local 'arg' (a nil value) stack traceback: ...test.lua:13: in function 'c' ...test.lua:22: in main chunk [C]: ? What am I doing wrong? Am I not supposed to combine the two? Why not?

  • ESPN API - How can I retrieve college basketball conferences using the Teams API?

    - by nomad
    The support forums on ESPN.com recommend using Stack Overflow with the ESPN tag. That's why I'm here. I'm trying to obtain a list of all NCAA college basketball teams using ESPN's Teams API. I started with this GET request: http://api.espn.com/v1/sports/basketball/mens-college-basketball/teams?apikey=MY_API_KEY That gave me a list of teams, but many of them are missing. For example, there is no Nebraska. So then I thought that maybe I need to get a list of teams by conference. So I read this in the documentation: GROUPS: Allows for filtering by "group" or division, e.g. AL East, NFC South, etc. For group IDs and their corresponding values, make a request to http://developer.espn.com/v1/{resource}/leagues. Not applicable to golf and tennis. So then I try to make a request to `http://developer.espn.com/v1/basketball/mens-college-basketball/leagues?apikey=MY_API_KEY' and it says the page does not exist. Is this a bug or user error?

  • Draggable cards (touch enumeration) issue

    - by glitch
    I'm trying to let a player tap, drag and release a card from a fanned stack on the screen to a 4x4 field on the board. My cards are instantiated from a custom class that inherits from the UIImageView class. I started with the Touches sample app, and I modified the event handlers for touches to iterate over my player's card hand instead of the 3 squares the sample app allows you to move on screen. Everything works, until that is, I move the card I'm dragging near another card. I'm really drawing a blank here for the logic to get the cards to behave properly. Here's my code: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSUInteger numTaps = [[touches anyObject] tapCount]; if(numTaps = 1) { for (UITouch *touch in touches) { [self dispatchFirstTouchAtPoint:[touch locationInView: self.boardCardView] forEvent:nil]; } } } -(void) dispatchFirstTouchAtPoint:(CGPoint)touchPoint forEvent:(UIEvent *)event { for (int i = 0; i<5; i++) { UIImageView *touchedCard = boardBuffer[i]; if (CGRectContainsPoint([touchedCard frame], touchPoint)) { [self animateFirstTouchAtPoint:touchPoint forView:touchedCard]; } } } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSUInteger touchCount = 0; for (UITouch *touch in touches){ [self dispatchTouchEvent:[touch view] toPosition:[touch locationInView:self.boardCardView]]; touchCount++; } } My questions are: How do I get the touch logic to disallow other cards from being picked up by a dragging finger? Is there anyway I can only enumerate the objects that are directly below a player's finger and explicitly disable other objects from responding? Thanks!

  • Casting pointer to object to void * in C++

    - by JB
    I've been reading StackOverflow too much and started doubting all the code I've ever written, I keep thinking "Is that undefined behavour?" even in code that has been working for ages. So my question - Is it safe and well defined behavour to cast a pointer to an object (In this case abstract interface classes) to a void* and then later on cast them back to the original class and call method using them? I'm fully aware that the code that does this is probably awful. I wouldn't even consider writing it like this now (this is old code which I don't really want to change), so I'm not looking for a discussion of better ways to do this. I already know how to write it better if I ever did this again. But if it's actually broken to rely on this in C++ then I'll have to look at changing the code, if it's merely awful code then changing it won't be a priority. I would have had no doubts about something this simple a year or two ago but as my understanding of C++ increases I actually find I have more and more worries about code being safe under the standards even if it works perfectly well. Perhaps reading too much stack overflow is a bad thing for productivity sometimes :P

    Here is a wget command that executes a HTML / PHP stack report suite that is hosted by a third party - we don't have control over the PHP or HTML page wget --no-check-certificate --http-user=/myacc --http-password=mypass -O /tmp/myoutput.csv "https://myserver.mydomain.com/mymodule.php?myrepcode=9999&action=exportcsv&admin=myappuserid&password=myappuserpass&startdate=2011-01-16&enddate=2011-01-16&reportby=mypreferredview" All the elements are working perfectly: --http-user / --http-pass as offered by a browsers standard popup for username and password prompt -O /tmp/myoutput.csv - the output file of interest https://myserver.mydomain.com/mymodule.php?myrepcode=9999&action=exportcsv&admin=myappuserid&password=myappuserpass&startdate=2011-01-16&enddate=2011-01-16&reportby=mypreferredview" The file generated on the fly by the parameters myrepcode=9999 - a reference to the report in question action=exportcsv internally written in the function admin=myappuserid the third party operats SSL to access the site - then internal username and password stored in a database to access the functions of the site) password=myappuserpass startdate=2011-01-16 this and end data are parameters specific to the report 9999 enddate=2011-01-16 reportby=mypreferredview This is an option in the report that facilitates different levels of detail or aggregation The problem is that the reportby parameter is a radio button selection in a list of 5 selections (sure I enough the default is highest level of aggregation , I want the last one which is the most detailed) Here is a sample of the HTML page code for the options of reportby View by The Default My Least Preferred My Second Least Preferred My Third Least Preferred My Preferred No matter which of the reportby items I select in the wget statement - thedefault is always executed. Questions 1) Has anyone come across this notation in HTML (id=inputname[inputelement]) I spoke to a senior web developer and he has never seen this notation for inputs (id=inputname[inputelement]) - and w3schools do not appear familiar with this either based on an extensive search 2) Can a wget command select a none default radio item when executing the command ? This probably will be initially received with a "Use CURL" response- however the wget approach works very well in the limited environment I am operating in - particularly as I need to download 10000 of these such items. Thanks ahead of response

  • How do I subtract two dates in Django/Python?

    - by Ryan
    Hi! I'm working on a little fitness tracker in order to teach myself Django. I want to graph my weight over time, so I've decided to use the Python Google Charts Wrapper. Google charts require that you convert your date into a x coordinate. To do this I want to take the number of days in my dataset by subtracting the first weigh-in from the last weigh-in and then using that to figure out the x coords (for example, I could 100 by the result and increment the x coord by the resulting number for each y coord.) Anyway, I need to figure out how to subtract Django datetime objects from one another and so far, I am striking out on both google and here at the stack. I know PHP, but have never gotten a handle on OO programming, so please excuse my ignorance. Here is what my models look like: class Goal(models.Model): goal_weight = models.DecimalField("Goal Weight",max_digits=4, decimal_places=1) target_date = models.DateTimeField("Target Date to Reach Goal") set_date = models.DateTimeField("When did you set your goal?") comments = models.TextField(blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return unicode(self.goal_weight) class Weight(models.Model): """Weight at a given date and time """ goal = models.ForeignKey(Goal) weight = models.DecimalField("Current Weight",max_digits=4, decimal_places=1) weigh_date = models.DateTimeField("Date of Weigh-In") comments = models.TextField(blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return unicode(self.weight) def recorded_today(self): return self.date.date() == datetime.date.today() Any ideas on how to proceed in the view? Thanks so much!

  • Parsing a Multi-Index Excel File in Pandas

    - by rhaskett
    I have a time series excel file with a tri-level column MultiIndex that I would like to successfully parse if possible. There are some results on how to do this for an index on stack overflow but not the columns and the parse function has a header that does not seem to take a list of rows. The ExcelFile looks like is like the following: Column A is all the time series dates starting on A4 Column B has top_level1 (B1) mid_level1 (B2) low_level1 (B3) data (B4-B100+) Column C has null (C1) null (C2) low_level2 (C3) data (C4-C100+) Column D has null (D1) mid_level2 (D2) low_level1 (D3) data (D4-D100+) Column E has null (E1) null (E2) low_level2 (E3) data (E4-E100+) ... So there are two low_level values many mid_level values and a few top_level values but the trick is the top and mid level values are null and are assumed to be the values to the left. So, for instance all the columns above would have top_level1 as the top multi-index value. My best idea so far is to use transpose, but the it fills Unnamed: # everywhere and doesn't seem to work. In Pandas 0.13 read_csv seems to have a header parameter that can take a list, but this doesn't seem to work with parse.

  • New to JEE; architecture suggestions for a service/daemon?

    - by Kate
    I am brand new to the JEE world. As an exercise to try and familiarize myself with JEE, I'm trying to create a tiered web-app, but I'm getting a little stuck on what the best way is to spin up a service in the background that does work. Parameters of the service: It must open and hold a socket connection and receive information from the connected server. There is a 1-to-1 correlation between a user and a new socket connection. So the idea is the user presses a button on the web-page, and somewhere on the server a socket connection is opened. For the remainder of the users session (or until the user presses some sort of disconnect button) the socket remains open and pushes received information to some sort of centralized store that servlets can query and return to the user via AJAX. Is there a JEE type way to handle this situation? Naturally what I would think to do is to just write a Java application that listens on a port that the servlets can connect to and spawns new threads that open these sockets, but that seems very ad-hoc to me. (PS: I am also new to Stack Overflow, so forgive me if it takes me some time to figure the site out!)
