• File manager respawns with ubuntuone

  Starting Feb 11, my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop respawns FileManager many times(hundreds). You can observe the "Starting File Manager" processes at the bottom of the gnome desktop. I can make this behaviour stop by: System - Preferences - Ubuntu One - Services - uncheck "Files". Can someone walk me though the debug process?   The Dell PowerEdge 11 th Generation Servers: R810, R910 and M910 Memory Guidance whitepaper seems to have caused some confusion. I believe the source is an error in the paper. In the section on FlexMem Bridge Technology, the Dell whitepaper says this applies to the R810 and the M910. The Dell M910 is a 4-way blade server for the Xeon 7500 series processor line. • Flash doesn't work any more on 10.04

  I have a very strange problem with flash on my 10.04 system. (An update to 12.04 is not an option, because the system is just too old and slow.) After a recent update flash has just stopped working altogether. Youtube just shows a white square, vimeo a black one. After a 10.04 reinstall the problem stays the same. Not even chrome displays flash content, just a message that shockwave flash could not be loaded. 'ubuntu-restricted-extras' 'flashplugin-nonfree' and 'flashplugin-installer' are all installed in version 11.2.202.238ubuntu0.10.04.1.

• Ubuntu 12 installation problem

  I have made about 30 copies of the Ubuntu installation CD, but there is no way to install it on my laptop. I get a black screen with a blinking cursor or I get a /casper/vmlinuz file not found or I get Invalid or corrupt kernel image. I tried all solutions that I found but no way to install ubuntu on this laptop. I tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions, I tried ubuntu 11, and no way to install it. Only If I install windows first and than can I install it with wubi. But that is not an ideal solution. That is linux installed on windows. If I install any other distributions of linux the installation works ok. So there must be some issue with ubuntu!

• Using JPA 2.0 with WebLogic Server 10.3.4 and Eclipse

  Beginning in Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) 11.1.1.6.1, we introduced a new feature for WebLogic Server configuration called Server Extensions. Similar in concept to project facets, Server Extensions allow us to install additional technologies, libraries, configurations, etc into an existing server runtime. WebLogic Server 10.3.4 introduces new support for Java Persistence 2.0, the new JEE 6 standard entity access. In order to start developing JPA 2.0 applications with WebLogic Server 10.3.4, a SmartUpdate patch must be applied to add and configure the EclipseLink libraries. More information on the manual EclipseLink installation and configuration can be found here. OEPE provides a Server Extension for JPA 2.0, making the addition and configuration of JPA 2.0 and EclipseLink much easier. When defining a new WebLogic Server 10.3.4 configuration, simply click the Install link for Java Persistence 2.0 and OEPE will take care of the WebLogic Server enablement for JPA 2.0.

• Changes to File Store Provider in UCM PS3

  In the recent PS3 release of UCM (11.1.1.4.0) there are some significant changes to the File Store Provider (FSP) configuration. For new PS3 installs (not upgrades from PS2) the FSP default storage rule includes a dispersion rule that will change the web-layout and vault paths by adding dispersion directories to the paths to limit the number of files in the vault and web-layout directories. What that means is that if you install a new PS3 UCM instance and migrate content in from a previous version of UCM the web URL will change. That is a critical problem for web sites and just general document management.   I've been searching online and reading tutorials and etc about how to make my ubuntu VM dual screen(x86_64). When I try booting the Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit installation CD in VirtualBox, the following message is displayed by VirtualBox: VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not operational. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot. Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V properly in the BIOS of your host computer. What am I doing wrong? • External USB 3 drive not recognized

  Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit seems not to recognize my external hard disk. It is a Vantec NST-310S3 external disk enclosure with a WD 3TB drive. The disk has two NTFS partitions. My PC is a dual boot system. Under Windows 7 the hard disk works fine but I can't make it work with Ubuntu. When the drive is connected to the PC then the command sudo fdisk -l seems to hang forever. Below are the output of lsusb and cat /proc/partitions without the external drive and then with it connected. I added also the last lines of the dmesg command at the end. • How do I Fallback to Older DirectX Versions?

  I had a feeling that it would be easier to tackle this problem before I got too deep into development (unless, of course if that's a bad idea/the hard way, please inform me...). I'm creating my game to be run ideally on DirectX 11, however, I want to offer it on DirectX 10, and I'm unsure if it is worth offering it for DirectX 9 for XP users. I'm not too sure how this fallback even works, as I can't find many articles on the internet. If someone could give me an in-depth article, that would be great. I've read a little about how since DirectX11 is completely absent on XP, it is hard to even check for support. Someone mentioned having multiple applications for each version, is this a good idea? Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction here.

• GNOME Shell Overview animation is slow on my NVIDIA 320M

The animation for switching to and from GNOME Shell overview is just very slow. Unfortunately, it's the most common animation on Shell.   I install ubuntu 12.04 in my notebook and I use c++. I want to use c++11,so I want to upgrade my gcc to gcc4.7. I do like this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gcc-4.7 sudo apt-get install g++-4.7 but when I run "sudo apt-get install gcc-4.7", it just can find gcc-4.7-base not gcc-4.7, and when I run "sudo apt-get install g++-4.7", it can find nothing... Today, I want to install the "bumblebee" and do like this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia sudo reboot but when I run "sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia", it tells me the packages can't be find. I want it to be game development, but I also want it to be good and fun university.Thing is, I don't want to pay 30 grands a year or so for Cambridge or something like that. I am looking for a decent university at a decent price. I have in my hometown a University that is ranked 1613 world-wide which has a software development category. • How do I recover from upgrading while using bad version of gcc/binutils?

  I upgraded from 9.04 to 10.10 a couple of days ago, and things are really messed up - X is crashing constantly. Since then, I had an application segfault for no reason, when I was debugging, I found that it was strlen() that was causing the segfault (pointing to libc being the problem)! Upon investigation, I found that it was because I had a bad version of gcc and binutils installed in /usr/bin/local; I removed it, recompiled the application, and it no longer crashes. Now, looking at my logs, I see that X is also crashing due to libc.   Most of you would probably just call me a kid (I'm 15). I'm doing hobby programming (I started fiddling around with ActionScript 2.0 in Flash 8 when I was 11, now I do mostly C, Python and Java). As I'm 15, I won't get a job for a long period of time (I'm going to spend years in academia before that) and thus this question is not about which programming methodologies you recommend me to read up on for a software engineering job, but instead which methodologies should a hobby programmer read about? What will a hobby developer learn from reading about your recommendation(s)?

• Corrupted File System on Dual HD/Dual Boot System

  I have the following system set up: 2 drives, 1 TB each, one with Windows 7 and the other with what used to be Ubuntu 11.x After an update my system became corrupted and now the file system is apparently corrupt. The Ubuntu drive is /dev/sda2, the Windows 7 is /dev/sda1. I've tried fsck /dev/sda2 -t ext3 and that does nothing. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't even mind wiping the /dev/sda2 drive clean, so it will at least accept a completely new installation of Ubuntu. I just don't know how to do that. Please help. Thank you

• Mouse takes a while to start working after boot

  I just recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit) and a number of my USB devices have stopped working. At least, they don't work for the first 3-5 minutes. I have two mice (one wireless, one wired) and a camera, which seem to take Ubuntu 3-5 minutes to recognize after booting up.
