  • Grant Sharepoint Access to all employees

    - by Satish
What's the easiest way to grant access to all the employees of our company to sharepoint portal. There are some general sites which all employees have read access. So Do I have to create an AD group for all employees and add to the site or is there some better way to manage this?

  • Compressing with RAR vs ZIP

    - by FerranB
A lot of people are compressing files with RAR, sending compressed files with RAR and so on. ZIP is more standard and works on all platforms. Windows users have ZIP included and linux users have no trouble with that file format. The tests I did sometime ago showed me that RAR compress better (some KyloBytes, no more) but not enough to use a non-free software when ZIP works on almost all the computers for free. Why do some people use RAR rather than ZIP for compressing?

  • Load balancing with 2 wireless cards

    - by user2544786
I'm thinking about building a wireless load balancer (if that makes sense). For example, the first wireless card will accept all connections for ip 192.168.1.1 and the second card will serve requests for 192.168.1.2. I know that I can assign both IPs to a single card and all requests will be served by a single wireless card. Would it be better (more bandwidth, more stable connection, etc?) to have two physical cards instead?

  • Turn off laptop CD-ROM

    - by Stan
Since I seldom use the built-in cd-rom, but usually carelessly press open door button which is on the side of laptop. Is there any way to power off cd-rom so the button won't work. Better not to open the back lid and unplug power cable.

  • What is this very short power cable called?

    - by Portman
I have a couple of networking components in my rack that take giant AC adapters ("power bricks") that don't fit neatly into my rackmount PDU. I have one "thingy" that is shown below, and I need to buy a few more. But I have no idea what I'm searching for because I don't know what the "thingy" is called. Yes, this drawing is terrible. I would ask my 4-year-old to draw it for me because she's a better artist, but she's taking a nap.

  • nginx config to serve as external secure proxy

    - by realworldcoder
I'm setting up an external nginx server to proxy all outgoing traffic in order to simplify outbound firewall rules. What I'd like is: https://service1.com.example.com -- https://service1.com:443 https://www.service2.com.example.com -- https://www.service2.com:443 https://service3.com.example.com -- http://service3.com:8080 (everything else denied) (There will be 30-40 different hosts here, so I'm looking for something relatively easy to maintain.) Is this possible with Nginx? Or is there some other proxy software that is better suited for this problem?

  • Nginx load balancing policy

    - by Alex
Is the Nginx's load balancing policy customizable in any way? Having two sites A and B I want 20% of all the requests to go to A and the rest to B. Is that possible/feasible? Is there a better solution out there for this task? Thanks, Alex

  • Server 2012 - Hyper V Manager, RemoteFX missing From Hardware List

    - by Brett Smith
I've installed Remote Desktop Services and Hyper-V on a server running Windows Server 2012. The Hyper-V settings are showing my GPU as selected for use with RemoteFX as below However when I go to add the hardware to a virtual machine it does not show up in the list of available hardware. Sorry, If I'm a little light on details, I'm not sure where to start on this I've been searching for answers for the better part of the day without much luck

  • Nagios vs Splunk

    - by dan_vitch
I am looking to implement log tracking at my current company. After some research it seems Nagios and Splunk are the two best options. I was wondering if there is a consensus with which is better. I understand that Splunk can be quite pricey if the non-free version is used. That being said I can imagine the answer to my question will be "If you have the money use Splunk, if not use Nagios"

  • Critix XenServer - VM

    - by khou
1 Is it a good idea to export a VM from one server and import the VM into a completely different server? 2 Would there be any issues? 3 or is it better to just reinstall and reconfiguration everything on the new server (this is good but its rather time consuming).

  • Log and Block Website using Windows 2008 SBS

    - by John
A client has asked me to setup Windows 2008 SBS to block and log websites from a list they will provide. As far as I know they only have standard edition which means I cannot use ISA. I was thinking of using squid authenticated against Active Directory. There is no budge for additional software. Does any one know of a different/better solution using either open source software or software that is available in Windows 2008 SBS? Thanks

  • grin, ack and rak comparison

    - by sumek
Having used ack for some time now, I find it much better for my development purposes than grep. But then I've heard about rak and grin. Has anyone used all three of them and can provide a comparison?

  • How do I detect if uTorrent is downloading?

    - by Richard
I need to write a script that determines whether or not uTorrent is currently downloading something. I'd rather it just be downloading, but if I cannot differentiate between downloading and uploading then it would be better than nothing. One possible way would be check the whether any files ending in .!ut are locked - but I'm hoping for something a little more elegant. My weapon of choice is VBScript but I'm happy to use the command line if needs be.

  • Very slow first handshake Apache

    - by Johan Larsson
Any one having any ideas where should I start to fix this issue, the first handshake take sometimes up to 20s, but refreshes after that takes only 0.9s. The setup, 100/10 Mbps Windows OS 4GB RAM Intel Core 2 @ 3.0 GHz And 7200 RPM HDD Apache 2.4 No SSL Mod_Security Enabled Mod_Deflate Enabled Mod_Expires Enabled Mod_ReWrite Enabled PHP & MySQL on same machine. I have seen much slower machines preforming better, therefor I think my problem is ony an optimization issue.

  • Bazaar merge identical files

    - by Kristopher Ives
I have two Bazaar (bzr) repositories that have very similar content. I'm trying to identify the differences and incrementally synchronize. My current strategy is to bzr add files to both repos and then use bzr merge to identify and resolve conflicts. The problem is that even if the file contents are identical it creates a conflict and a .moved file. What can I do to stop these conflicts or use a better workflow?

It doesnt happen with apache only set up? Any idea why it is happening with nginx? this was happening even i removed all external js from the page

  • How to resize Yahoo Messenger window?

    - by Ian Boyd
Yahoo messenger is huge: And that's as short as you can make it, it won't shrink vertically anymore. How can i make it a more reasonable size, e.g.: In fact, if we're making it look better, how about Yahoo stops pissing on their users and makes it: Okay, yes, the last one was me complaining. But the first two are a valid question! Note: The cut-off title bar is because Yahoo! developers don't pay their taxes, and assume that everyone runs at 96dpi.
