Using cd Command in Windows Command Line, Can't Navigate to D:\

This may be a stupid question, and I think I have looked elsewhere to find the answer... Might be a path issue, but when I open the command line and type from the C:\>: cd D:\ I cannot get to the D drive. Even if I type: cd D:\<folder name> The command.exe will auto-complete the line with the tab key, so it knows where I'm at. It just doesn't print to screen the result or actually get me there. This problem exists for the network drives as well. Now, if I use the chdir (cd) command like this: chdir D: or cd d: I get the print out of the D:\ below the command but it still says I'm in the C:\. I feel like I'm missing something simple.

Windows Task Scheduler

i am trying to deploy a auto-starting program with Administrator Priviliges on our XP-SP1-machines. For this, i am using the Windows Task Scheduler. Since most of our machines get deployed by using a PXE-imaging-system, the Task fails because the Administrator user entered is for example r126/Administrator. If i only enter Administrator then it automatically changes to machinename/Administrator. Since the machinenames are automatically changes by the imaging-system, the tasks fail run. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Failing SSHFS connection drags down the system

From time to time my sshfs mount fails. All programs using the mount freeze when it happens. I can't even ls anything or use nautilus. Is there a way to find out what's the cause and how to handle it? I've noticed regular SSH sessions to the server get their fair share of Write failed: broken pipe disconnects, too. If I wait long enough (and I'm talking about 20-ish minutes, here) it will auto reconnect and things start working again.

CSS: Horizontal UL: Getting it centered

I'm trying to make a horizontal menu/list. It has a mix of independent buttons and buttons that are wrapped in their own individual forms. With much hacking I got all of the buttons, in forms and not in forms to align horizontally. I haven't been able to get the whole thing to center on the page though. How to move mail among Google Apps for Domains users

Considering moving the domain used by my extended family for email to Google Apps. One less server for me to manage, better spam filtering, etc. One thing that's been nice about running my own has been the way I manage my kids' incoming email - it comes to me first, and I drop good mail in a symlinked IMAP folder that we share. A little procmail is all it takes, and straight-through exceptions are easy to implement. (FYI, no I'm not advocating censorship, but manually filtering spam and viruses from my 8-year-old's inbox seems like the right thing to do. YMMV) Anyway. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to do something similar in Google Apps - setting up filters to auto-redirect to me looks easy enough (any gotchas there?), but moving things back is not obvious. Yes, I could access both accounts via IMAP and drag mails across, but does anyone have an easier way?

Error while mounting home directory on different logical volume

I created RAID 5 form 3 hard drives. Formatted as ext4 this raid array. Created VG0 group and lv_home logical volume in LVM. Reccomendation for tuning 100's of SQL Databases

I'm running several SQL servers, each running a few hundred multi-gig databases for customers. They are all setup homogeneously as far as the schemas are concerned, however customer usages of the data differ quite a lot from database to database. What would be the best way to auto-index/profile/tune this large amount of databases? As there are at least 600 or more catalogs I cant have someone manually profile, and index as required by each databases usage patterns. I'm currently running SQL 2005 but will be moving to 2008, so solutions that work with either are fine.

Ubuntu on Oracle VirtualBox: Shared folders

I looked at this question, but it didn't help. I'm running Windows 7 as a host with Ubuntu 10.10 as a guest with VBox 4.0. I want to have a shared directory between the two. I have installed Guest Additions. I went to the VBox control panel in Windows, added a Shared Folder (sharename Shared_Folder), and chose "Auto Mount". A directory named "sf_Shared_Folder" appeared in /media on Ubuntu, but when I put files in that directory from an OS, I can't see them on the other one. I then tried to create a directory without automounting (sharename collectivefiles), and to run the following command: foo@foo-VirtualBox:~$ sudo mount -t vboxsf collectivefiles FileShare /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such device What is causing this error? I rebooted both the VM and VBox itself, but I'm still observing this.

Updating wordpress in a multi-node environment

I'm finding this very tricky in a multi node environment, with code under revision control. AKA. multiple frontends and single database. I have a deployment process that pushes a git repo to the servers, but obviously if I update Wordpress from within the admin panel, it will update the files to one FE. Then I would need to copy over the new files to the other FE nodes. Plus, whenever these changes are written when Wordpress updates on a node, it writes code into the git repo. As such, it then breaks the auto deploys that perform 'git pulls', as it then has untracked changes and refuses to pull in new deploys unless manually intervened. How does one easily keep Wordpress updated in a multi node (load balanced) environment?

Connect iPad to windows 7 VPN

My iPad keeps spitting out the error: "A connection could not be established to the PPP server." I am trying to connect it to a VPN I set up with Windows 7 as an incoming connection. On the iPad, I went into the VPN settings, added a new PPTP VPN with the following information Server: Windows 7 Computer's IP RSA SecurID: OFF Account: Account Username Password: Account Password Encryption Level: Auto Send All Traffic: ON Proxy: Off Now I know that it is making some connection to the Windows 7 Computer because whenever I intentionally put in the wrong VPN password on the iPad, it makes me put in the correct one before trying to connect again. All the ports are forwarded on my router for PPTP, and my Windows 7 Firewall is even off to try to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Centering contentplaceholders

I have a contentplaceholder which needs to be centered (as close to absolute as possible) to the center of the page. The issue I am having is when, the browser moves to different resolutions the centering is thrown off. I have tried using divs and tables. I have switched out the precent with em units, and still no workie. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It works ok like that, but the VPNs that I set use the public IP of the provider. For example if I have 5 VPNs set for ISP1 (WAN1) and the balancer sends the request trough WAN2 it can't use any of the configured VPNs because the public IP is different. How do I deal with this problem?

Limit WSUS replication to only certain product classifications

I have four WSUS 3.0 SP2 servers that are geographically distributed. The server at our main site (we'll call it WSUS1), is the main WSUS server. All manual and auto-approvals happen here. The other three WSUS servers are replicas of this server. Currently, we are only controlling desktop OS updates through WSUS. I would like to control server OS updates through WSUS as well. There is no need for all of these server updates to be on WSUS servers at the remote sites. The only server that would need a copy of them is WSUS1. Is there a way to keep my current infrastructure as-is and add server OS updates only to WSUS1, even though the others are set up as replicas, or will I need to configure an additional WSUS server that's not replicated?

Odd FTP ASCII/BINARY transfer behavior after migrating to a new server

I recently got a dedicated server and after migration to the new machine I started noticing problems with file transfers. My FTP client, despite being set to auto, keeps uploading php files in binary mode and the content of those files is messed up. Since I mostly upload files of different kinds it would be annoying to change from binary to ASCII every single time, beside, I never had such problems. What could be the cause of this behavior? My dedicated server runs CENTOS 6.4 and the ftp server is Pure-FTPd. I tried different FTP clients and they all have the same problem so I assume is soem misconfiguration on the server side. Thanks

Checking version of Applications installed in ~/Applications with unknown username

I'd like to check the version of Firefox through Apple Remote Desktop of all managed computers. I have written this, but it only checks for Firefox in /Applications /bin/cat /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info.plist | grep -A 1 CFBundleShortVersionString | grep string | sed 's/[/]//' | sed 's/<string>//g' For standard users Firefox auto update breaks if it is in /Applications so I instead have it installed in ~/Applications I'd like to check that copy (if it exists), but I can't specify the path in the command since it is unique to each computer. For example: /Users/jon/Applications/Firefox.app /Users/arya/Applications/Firefox.app Presumably I want to use find and pipe the result to my command. This should work for 10.6 through 10.8

Clustering with Vsphere and Apache load balacing

I was looking at Vsphere to automatically load balance my apache web servers, and mysql servers but will this actually do the job? I know it says it does auto load balancing but not actually sure it quite means what I want to achieve. Is there an easier way to set up a php-apache and mysql cluster within virtual machines? Or are there any guides to clustering? (I have tried googling without much luck) Any help towards understanding/setting up clustering and load balancing within virtual machines appreciated.

Run ClickOnce Application from CLI

I am working on an auto-install script for where I work and we have a ClickOnce type application we use from a vendor. I have looked into it and we can't automate the install but we would like to be able to at least start the install automatically. I have tried rundll32.exe dfshim.dll,ShOpenVerbApplication "%SOFTWARE%\ToolsApp.application" but it gives me an error about an invalid URI. What would probably be the easiest is to use whatever program Windows has (Windows XP in our case) to run the default "handler" for the file. I don't know if any such thing exists, but that is what comes to mind.

Automatically reboot Windows8 if no internet activity

I have a media server located in a very inconvenient part of my house. Occasionally I will have to reset my router or it will reset itself. The issue is the PC loses connectivity for some reason, and I am forced to walk outside, around the house, into the basement, over a bunch of toys and weights and boxes, to push a button to reboot it. I would love to have it check itself every 5-10 minutes and auto reboot if it is unable to ping a given address/IP. Any ideas how to accomplish this?

LXC Container Networking

I just started to experiment with LXC containers. I was able to create a container and start it up but I cannot get dhcp to assign the container an IP address. If I assign a static address the container can ping the host IP but not outside the host IP. The host is CentOS 6.5 and the guest is Ubuntu 14.04LTS. I used the template downloaded by lxc-create -t download -n cn-01 command. If I am trying to get an IP address on the same subnet as the host I don't believe I should need the IP tables rule for masquerading but I added it anyways. Same with IP forwarding. XsltContext is a specific XmlNamespaceManager, but I don't know if it's possible to instantiate it without an actual XslCompiledTransform (it's abstract) and use it as my expression context. Is there any way to do this (or any other way to use ms: extensions inside an XPathExpression)?

Creating a seperate static content site for IIS7 and MVC

With reference to this serverfault blog post: A Few Speed Improvements where it talks about how static content for stackexchange is served from a separate cookieless domain... How would someone go about doing this on IIS7.5 for a ASP.NET MVC site? The plan so far: Register domain eg static.com, create a new website in IIS Manually copy the js / css / images folders from MVC as is so that they have the same paths on the new server Enable IIS gzip settings (js/css = high compression, images = none) Set caching with far future expiry dates <clientCache cacheControlCustom="public" /> in the web.config Never set any cookies on the static.com site Combine and minimize js / css Auto deploy changes in static content with WebDeploy Is this plan correct? And how can you use WebDeploy to deploy the whole web app to one server and then only the static items to another? Cannot set audio input volume (internal microphone) on mac

On a macbook air (MacOS X 10.6.5), when doing skype calls people are complaining they hear me very low - so I had a look to the system preferences under audio and noticed the input volume was 54%. I am now trying to set the input volume to 100%. To my surprise the volume is gradually set back as I speak. I tried deselecting 'use ambient noise reduction' but it doesn't help.' Is there any way to avoid this volume auto-setting feature? Any help appreciated!
