  • Neither IE or Firefox respects the control values that are output

    I'm writing a survey designer asp.net mvc. It has buttons to move questions up and down. The buttons post the whole form back and the affected questions are swapped on the server. When the form returns the only thing that is changed are the values for each survey question. Both firefox and IE seem to ignore this change. Nothing is persisted to the database (until save) and url doesn't change so the post just returns the same view but I've stepped through my code to ensure the sequence of values being rendered in the view reflects the swap which is ok. However "view - source" doesn't show the change suggesting caching issue (maybe auto complete). I've tried autocomplete="off" in my form. Response.Cache.SetNoStore(); in my global.asax [System.Web.Mvc.OutputCache(NoStore = true, Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "*")] before my controller and the following in my page header NOTHING!!! This must be real common. Anyone got a clue?

  • Cross-browser padding/margins

    Hi All, I was wondering if you could give me some helpful hints on how to correct this issue? I have a main menu on my site, the code for it is as follows: li:hover { background-color: #222222; padding-top: 8px; padding-bottom: 9px; } And here's a demo of what it actually looks like: The problem is that when I hover over a menu option (li), the background appears, but it overflows to the outside of the menu's background, and makes it look really dodgy/crap/cheap/yuck! Note that (obviously) when I change the padding to make it display correctly in these browsers, it appears too small in height in IE! So I'm screwed either way. How can I make little imperfections like this look the same in all browsers?   • Preferred way of using UiBinder with multiple screens

    We have a GWT app that has multiple screens, based off of a menu. So App loads user sees Do This Do That Each menu item loads a different screen. What is the best way to switch the screens. Right now what I do roughly is RootPanel.get(CONTENT).remove(menu); RootPanel.get(CONTENT).add(new DoThisScreen()); I ask this because it seems on IE 8 (and I am sure 7,6) that the DoThisScreen is basically not recognize by IE's Developer Tool (wannabe firebug tool, when you press F12). Using IE's dev tool I tell it to highlight a textbox in the DoThisScreen, for some reason it won't highlight it or list it in the html.

    My code is working fine in FireFox but my users are restricted to IE. Update: returnList is an XML document object from an Ajax call. I'm trying to retrieve the JSON object string located within the XML tag.

  • URL Slugs: Redirects or 404s?

    Some sites, like here at SO, allow 'bogus' slugs in the URL. Before implementing URL slugs on my site, I have a question of 'best practices'... Given a structure like example.com/123/article-slug-here/, if my site allows bogus slugs by querying on the ID - Should I ... just do a redirect to the appropriate/canonical URL (verifying the slug, and redirecting in case of a mismatch)? -or- return a 404, since technically example.com/123/this-article-s-u-x doesn't exist?

  • IE z-index relative/absolute bug in list

    I have the following navigation where .topNav has position:relative and subnav has position:absolute. I cant get the sublist to appear over the main list due to z-index problems. This seems to be a known problem. <ul> <li class="topNav">About Us <ul class="subNav"><li> Subsection A</li><li>Subsection B</li></ul> </li> </ul> Does anyone know of a workaround? UPDATE http://brh.numbera.com/experiments/ie7_tests/zindex.html shows exacly the problem I have. My original posting was in the context of a list but I have reduced the problem to the fact that z-index dosn't seem to work when have an element with position:absolute inside a parent element with position:relative

  • TinyMCE Editor acts weird on IE

    Hi, I use TinyMCE and it works fine on FireFox but it shows weird icons on IE 8.0. As you can see, forecolor and backcolor icons are repeated. This doesn't happen on FF. Has anybody seen this? How do I fix this? Sam

  • Launch IE with specific BHO enabled

    I have a IE BHO plugin that I only want to be enabled when the user launches IE from my program (The program start IE using CreateProcess()). I don't want this BHO to be enabled when a user launches IE from outside my program, as that would mean any problems in the BHO could potentially mess up the user's normal browsing experience. What's the best way to do this? One way would be to register the BHO, launch IE and then quickly unregister the BHO. This seems kind of messy though, as a crash in the program that launches IE could cause the BHO to remain registered.

  • CSS issue in IE

    Hi, Me website contains drop down menus at the top right corner. Dropdwon is displayed fine but when I hover over elements of drop down then IE is causing issue on rendering them on the other hand Firefox is displaying the way i want. website is http://www.textsensor.com/test. Can anybody tell me what is causing IE issue on its menu. Here is the details. Each parent at top has child div which contains child elements in a ul. I am displaying them inline with width of div container fixed so that two of them are being displayed in one line. Each child li contains two images and an anchor in between. These two images are providing rounded corners whereas anchor contains span which contains text of sub-menu item. On mouseover on span I am showing its parent anchor sibling images through javascript and also setting its bg-image to white. Images are not aligned correctly and span tag got down about 10px from top on IE only.   • IE page redirect hanging

    My app does a POST to my local server to create a new DOM element, comes back and should redirect to the same page with the new element. The problem is when it gets back from the server, the app hangs for almost 2 minutes before doing the redirect. I've isolated the issue to the fact that IE seems to have trouble with my tree structure of 100+ DOM elements, and I can see in HTTPWatch that it sits in a "Blocked" call for the 2 minutes before doing the redirect. Our temporary workaround is to set the inner-html of the tree structure to an empty string before submitting, thus eliminating the heavy DOM lifting, but we shouldn't need to do this (firefox has no trouble with the redirect). Question 1: Is there a better fix for this issue? Question 2: Why does ANY page care about the content before a redirect if it's going to be refreshed anyway? Thanks yall //sw

  • Can mouseenter be made to not fire in IE on DOMready?

    jQuery emulates IE's mouseenter event on non-IE browsers. In IE, however, mouseenter is being triggered when the page loads (maybe due to jQuery's use of doScroll in the $.ready implementation), even if the mouse is not moved at all. This doesn't happen in other browsers and definitely doesn't follow Microsoft's own spec, which says (emphasis mine): The event fires only if the mouse pointer is outside the boundaries of the object and the user moves the mouse pointer inside the boundaries of the object. If the mouse pointer is currently inside the boundaries of the object, for the event to fire, the user must move the mouse pointer outside the boundaries of the object and then back inside the boundaries of the object. This only becomes an issue of usability if hover (or the hoverIntent plugin) is applied to a navigational item to display a drop down or "mega-menu": In IE, mouseenter will fire immediately after $.ready, obscuring the content with the menu. I've put together a demonstration of both the mouseenter inconsistency and the usability issue it creates.

  • IE6 Bug - Div within Anchor tag: inline images not links

    I'm trying to get everything in the anchor tag to be a clickable link. Unfortunately, in IE6 (which is the only browser I'm concerned with currently), the only thing that isn't a clickable link are the inline images. I know that it's not valid html to put a div inside of an anchor but it's not my markup and I've been asked to avoid changing it. Any suggestions to altering the CSS to enable the images as clickable links? If changing the markup is the only solution... any suggestions there? My initial thought was to set the image as a background of it's parent (.ph-item-featured-img), although I'm unclear if that will solve the problem.   • Absolute positioning in IE6, using left: 0; and right: 0; simultaneously

    Here is my website: http://dagwaging.110mb.com/ View it in any good browser, then in IE6. It dies in IE6. It seems that in IE6, one can't do this: div { position: absolute; left: 0px; right: 0px; } or this: div { position: absolute; top: 0px; bottom: 0px; } Absolute positions cannot be set for left and right or top and bottom at the same time. This is terrible, because that is pretty much the basis of my site design. The HTML can be viewed on the site, and the CSS is in /style.css. I'd like to fix this without invalidating my CSS or HTML. Can this be done? Another problem is that my content uses min-width and max-width to avoid over-stretching or compressing the content within. IE6 can't do min-width, so how can I replicate this behavior?

  • How to make JQGrid scroll properly in IE6?

    I've got a JQGrid that needs to scroll. It works fine in Firefox, but in IE6, the grid stays stationary while the rest of the content scrolls underneath it. What might be a complicating factor is that the grid is inside tabs, inside a dialog. I've googled all over the place, but I can't find a solution for this problem, so I turn to Stackoverflow. Does anyone here know what could cause this behavior? I'm using jqgrid 3.5.3, should that matter.

    Hello all, I am having a look at this example which makes use of activeX - it does extacly what I need from the description but everytime I try to run the example, I get the error: Could not load Drivers. The ActiveX Control could not be started. I have tried this on IE8 on a windows Vista Machine. What is the problem, how can I get those drivers? This is my first time with ActiveX.   • Any way to cache WAV files in IE?

    I'm seeing an issue with our web application. We have a few wave files which we can play (like ding.wav) and we have attempted to pre-load wave files but using Fiddler we're seeing that the WAV files are never cached like (js and css and image files). We always see an HTTP 200 instead of an HTTP 304. Any ideas on how to tell IE that it should cache wav files? We're inserting a div: <EMBED SRC='ding.wav' AUTOSTART='FALSE' HIDDEN='TRUE'>

  • Why does this window object not have the eval function?

    I ran into an interesting (?) problem in the YUI rich edit demo on IE. When looking at the window object for the content editable frame used as the browser I see that the eval function is undefined (by running the following). javascript:alert(document.getElementById("editor_editor").contentWindow.eval) This only happens on IE (I checked on IE6 and IE8), and it doesn't happen on Firefox or Chrome. All the other window functions and properties seem to be in order, now I realise that eval is not really defined on the window but on the global object but my understanding was that in browsers the window is the global object (also eval does appear on all other windows so why not on this one?). Does anyone know if this is a know bug/limitation in IE and how I can get to eval in the context of the global object of this frame? (I need the side effects to be available to anything running from within this frame).

    I have a ul/li based side menu, styled with two CSS rules, the following of them is ignored by IE8 Quirks mode, and I assume IE6: ul { padding-left: 15px; } I can reproduce the problem in FF by removing this rule completely. I have also tried using jQuery to apply the rule, with no change in IE8: $("ul.menu-class").find("ul").css("padding-left", 15); Is this a box model issue, and, how can I reduce the UL 'padding' in IE Quirks Mode?

  • IE is ignoring Z-Index on positioned elements

    IE yet again is proving to be the bane of my existence. The top of a site I'm working on has a horizontal menu, an item of which triggers a pure-CSS menu that is positioned absolute within the parent menu DIV (positioned relative). This places the menu perfectly in both IE and the W3C compliant browsers. The problem arises when I have more positioned elements further down on the page. These are also positioned relative, because there is data inside them that needs to be positioned absolute... again, this displays properly in all browsers I've tested it on. The problem is, that then the top menu is opened, part is obscured by the positioned elements further down the page - in effect, it's positioned BELOW these elements even though there are z-index properties defined on all. (in both the CSS file and inline). The only way to get IE to display this properly is to place the actual HTML for the menu at the bottom of the page, below (in DOM terms) the positioned elements elsewhere on the page. I would only do this as an absolute last resort. All Elements are the same type (div).
