• Rails plugin for generating dynamic / ajax crud interfaces compatible with Rails 3 beta?

  Anyone know of some good gems or plugins to create dynamic / ajax crud interfaces for Rails 3 projects? I know active scaffold was popular before and it's been awhile since I have used it / any other gems similar to this (I usually just write it myself). I like the direction that the formtastic gem (http://github.com/justinfrench/formtastic) is headed and wonder what else people are combining with it. Also I like the generators approach that Ryan Bates uses and he appears to be making updates for Rails 3. Anything else I am missing here? (I am also open to gems not compatible with Rails 3 too I guess, I can always make a contribution and try to help them get to the next phase. ;)) PS - Really stackoverflow, only one hyperlink?? lame.

• Beginning VSTO development

  Hi, I'm quite confused with what are the necessary tools for VSTO develpment. Specifically I want to manipulate Excel 2003/2007 documents programmatically. I did quite a lot of VBA before, if you want to relate any answer to that. Few questions I have about VSTO: Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition C#/C++ for this? Do I need to have .NET framework installed? Does the resulting VSTO program need to have a copy of Office installed in the same system to run? Direct links to the relevant tools/plugins/IDE will be appreciated. Note: I'm totally new to VSTO and .NET but an Office power user. Have experience with COM programming. Thanks.

  I have some legacy python scripts that manage my shell environment for all the programs and plugins I am running on Linux (bash) and windows (cmd.exe). I want to port this to powershell. How do I set environment variables in powershell by calling python script that prints $env:myVar=myvalue and causes my environment variable to persist in the powershell. In Bash I can use a bash function to call my python script which prints export var=value to stdout and the function will set the environment variables in my shell. This will also work in windows cmd shell by calling a .bat file. I cannot figure out how to do this in powershell. I think it should be something like this: setvar.ps1: function SETVAR {c:\python26\python.exe varconfig.py } varconfig.py: import sys print >> sys.stdout, '$env:myVar=foo'

• Suspending/Screen Going Off When Still In Use (Ubuntu & Arch)

  I have a laptop (HP Pavilion G6) that was running Ubuntu and for a while now (at least 6 months) has been having a problems randomly suspending whilst still in use with a full battery and still being charged. Originally the problem was with Ubuntu so I first attempted to disable suspend using every way I could find (gui settings + dconf editor) this didn't work and it still kept suspending so I ended up switching to Arch Linux. Unfortunately not long after switching to Arch Linux I ended up experiencing the same problems. So yet again I modified the settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf to prevent it from suspending and this time it worked, kind of. Now I am experiencing the screen going off and I have to change to a different tty (by using ctrl-alt-fx, which was something I also found I had to do sometimes when waking up from suspend in Ubuntu) to get the screen to go back on. The strange thing is this only happens when running a Linux distros and only occasionally (e.g. it may happen once/twice a week at most). But when it does happen it can happen multiple times in a row. And it only seems to happen when I am using it. This may just mean that it hasn't happened yet when I am not but generally if I leave it to run something or play a video it hasn't occurred only when I am using it regardless of which program I am using (e.g. it has occurred when using firefox, vim, even when using a virtualbox vm). At first I thought it could be the CPU temperature but after monitoring it I discovered it occurred a lot of the time when my CPU was less than 50 °C. I then checked /var/log/* but could not see anything related to it suspending only a few standard things from when it was woken up. I am really out of ideas and really hoping someone can help.   I'm trying to setup mutt wiht gmail for the first time. It seems to work pretty well, however when I send a mail from Mutt i appears twice in Gmail's sent folder. • How to get cheap version control?

  Hello, I'm a programmer, contractor, self experimenter and so on. I'd need to have cheap version control. I've been working with Subversion and recently with Mercurial. I've seen around many cheap hosting but, even if they are great (like BitBucket), many of them don't allow many private projects (1 or 2). Much of the code I need to keep on VC is not open, maybe because it is stuff I'm working on for clients, or maybe because it's code I usually need for my development, but it is not intended and usable as a open source project. Now, I've a cheap web hosting, with unlimited space and free mysql. I CAN'T install Mercurial or SVN on those machinese, but I was asking myself if is it there a way to use a common CVS with it, with "common" I mean something that has its good IDE plugins (Eclipse or Netbeans) that may avoid me to write commands by hand.   I am writing a Wireshark plugin to dissect a protocol that places multiple application-level packets in a single UDP frame. There is no enclosing protocol that indicates how many packets there are in the frame. So essentially, the payload coming down the wire will look like this: uint64 sequence1 uint64 data1 uint8 flags1 uint64 sequence2 uint64 data2 uint8 flags2 : : : uint64 sequence_n uint64 data_n uint8 flags_n In my server code that actually processes this information, I simply loop through the frame until I reach the end. In looking through the plugins included with the wireshark source code, I didn't see any protocols that did any looping like this. I know other protocols pack multiple payloads per frame. What is the cannonical or standard way to handle protocols like this in a Wireshark dissector?

  I'm trying to write a script that will show the rss version of a single url (title, author, image, source, etc..). This should behave much the way that facebook does when you copy paste a link to share and it generates this information automatically. I'm trying to do this with a php script but would also be open to opensource programs that can do this as well. also, if anyone knows of any Joomla/Drupal plugins that can do this that would be great. This may eventually end up on a site run on one of these frameworks. thanks!!

• iPad javascript scrolling

  I'd like to get the same behaviour of the native javascript scrollTo function in iPad, just attaching a function to the swipe event and scrolling the content a specific number of pixels. That doesn't work in iPad using scrollTo or several different jquery plugins, like scrollTo or iScroll. I think I'm having problems because I'm working with an iframe, as I have another html document in it, with its body divided in columns, but I'm just showing the first one. The point of all this is that, after swiping, it should show the next/prev column, and I tried scrolling the iframe window or the inner's html body, which actually works in chrome, but it doesn't in iPad.

• Linux: Can't overwrite files on samba store

  I'm using CentOS 5.5 with smbclient 3.0.33-3.28-el5 (latest version in repo), and I can't overwrite files in my Samba store. I am not the admin for the Samba server, so there isn't anything I can do server side. But I do have write permission to the server. I know the server runs Windows XP or Server 2003; I don't know. I can delete the file, and then copy the new version over, but I can't overwrite it. Using the cp command I'll get this error: [jonescb@localhost ~]$ cp foo.txt /mnt/si_storage/foo.txt cp: cannot create regular file `/mnt/si_storage/foo.txt': No such file or directory` And if I edit a file on the server using vim, I can save it once, but if I save it again I get this: "/mnt/si_storage/foo.txt" E212: Can't open file for writing This is my /etc/fstab entry for the samba server: //192.168.1.2/SI_STORAGE /mnt/si_storage cifs username=myuser,password=mypass 0 0 Edit: I can overwrite files just fine on my XP machine. The CentOS box is the only one having problems.

• two instances of tinymce with jquery ui causes chrome page to hang and be not responding

  in the cpanel that i'm developing thre is a department for articles in arabic and english so i used two tinymce editors one for arabic and the other is for english it works as expected, but the problem is that when i'm using chrome browser the page suddenly become not responding and never come back and i need to restart it but in IE8 no problem at all. i've found in chrome task manager that the memory usage of the page is over 22 kilobyte. i'm also using jquery ui. i've tried the following 1- using jquery plugin the compressor tiny_mce_gzip.php 2- decreasing the plugins of tinymce [ispell,layers,..] what is the solution or what is the cause

• How to make WPF app work as a child process in Citrix

  I am working on a 3rd party application that allows plugins to be written in .NET 1.1. I have decided I would like to write my plugin in a seperate process that is called from the .NET 1.1 application (achieved using Process.Start). This is fine- I create a new process that is a WPF app. When I launch this through MSTSC everything works as expected, however when I run the app through Citrix, the WPF child app fails to render correctly, and the mouse position starts going crazy- the child process window is basically not usable. Is there a way to avoid this happening? If I create a seperate WPF application and deploy this through Citrix everything works fine. If I create a child Windows forms app in .NET 3.5, that also works fine.

  I'm modifying a dynamically created input element by setting the innerHTML, when I view the element in the DOM Inspector I can see that the values I passed are in the input. However, I can't see it on the page? Is there a refresh() function that I should be calling after setting the value? I have tried innerText, and value and gotten the same results. • wordpress image showing up multiple times

  I am writing a wordpress theme, and have run into a fairly basic problem. By default, when you inset an image into the post, it displays that image at the size you specify, on both the homepage and the single post. I would like to have different sized images, displaying a thumbnail on the homepage, and a full sized image when you click through to the post. I am using wordpress 2.9's new thumbnail feature, which has created great thumbnails for the homepage. But now, I am stuck with a nice thumbnail next to a large photo (on the index/home page). On the single page, it is displaying correctly with just the large picture. Basically, I need to know how to tell wordpress to only display the large post image on the single page, not on the index. Also: I have used the timthumb script, but I think the answer is far more basic then needing plugins or scripts Thanks!

• Search and highlight - Client vs. Server side?

  Hi everyone, I have an MVC web application that shows ~ 2000 lines "divs", and I want to make the user able to search and highlight the keywords. I tried using jQuery plugins for this but the performance was really bad and IE got almost hung! So, I was wondering if this is the best way to do it? and If am not getting a faster version I'd rather do it on the server "AJAX call" and re-render the whole lines again - this way at least the user won't feel the browser is getting hung! • Problem with videos on heroku
