  Can you tell me what is the error in this code? Socket socket = new Socket(hostname, port); PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(socket.getOutputStream(), true); //DataInputStream is = new DataInputStream(socket.getInputStream()); out.println("hi"); System.out.print(in.readLine()); The Server Socket program is written in .Net and it echoes back the data. The data is sent successfully but could not be retrieved properly. I tried the same by using the linux command nc 192.168.1.6 8425 (enter) Hi (Sent data) Hi (recieved data) When I checked the code the data is found to have sent as byteStream in .Net. Is that a problem. In that case what modification should I make.

• Welcome To The Nashorn Blog

  Welcome to all.  Time to break the ice and instantiate The Nashorn Blog.  I hope to contribute routinely, but we are very busy, at this point, preparing for the next development milestone and, of course, getting ready for open source. So, if there are long gaps between postings please forgive. We're just coming back from JavaOne and are stoked by the positive response to all the Nashorn sessions. It was great for the team to have the front and centre slide from Georges Saab early in the keynote. It seems we have support coming from all directions. Most of the session videos are posted. Check out the links. Nashorn: Optimizing JavaScript and Dynamic Language Execution on the JVM. Unfortunately, Marcus - the code generation juggernaut,  got saddled with the first session of the first day. Still, he had a decent turnout. The talk focused on issues relating to optimizations we did to get good performance from the JVM. Much yet to be done but looking good. Nashorn: JavaScript on the JVM. This was the main talk about Nashorn. I delivered the little bit of this and a little bit of that session with an overview, a follow up on the open source announcement, a run through a few of the Nashorn features and some demos. The room was SRO, about 250±. High points: Sam Pullara, from Twitter, came forward to describe how painless it was to get Mustache.js up and running (20x over Rhino), and,  John Ceccarelli, from NetBeans came forward to describe how Nashorn has become an integral part of Netbeans. A healthy Q & A at the end was very encouraging. Meet the Nashorn JavaScript Team. Michel, Attila, Marcus and myself hosted a Q & A. There was only a handful of people in the room (we assume it was because of a conflicting session ;-) .) Most of the questions centred around Node.jar, which leads me to believe, Nashorn + Node.jar is what has the most interest. Akhil, Mr. Node.jar, sitting in the audience, fielded the Node.jar questions. Nashorn, Node, and Java Persistence. Doug Clarke, Akhil and myself, discussed the title topics, followed by a lengthy Q & A (security had to hustle us out.) 80 or so in the room. Lots of questions about Node.jar. It was great to see Doug's use of Nashorn + JPA. Nashorn in action, with such elegance and grace. Putting the Metaobject Protocol to Work: Nashorn’s Java Bindings. Attila discussed how he applied Dynalink to Nashorn. Good turn out for this session as well. I have a feeling that once people discover and embrace this hidden gem, great things will happen for all languages running on the JVM. Finally, there were quite a few JavaOne sessions that focused on non-Java languages and their impact on the JVM. I've always believed that one's tool belt should carry a variety of programming languages, not just for domain/task applicability, but also to enhance your thinking and approaches to problem solving. For the most part, future blog entries will focus on 'how to' in Nashorn, but if you have any suggestions for topics you want discussed, please drop a line.  Cheers.

• Memory usages in Linux drops frequently

  I run a CentOS 5.6 (64bit) machine that has Nginx (latest version) running, with php-fpm (latest version). Things run very well, but since about 2 weeks I noticed in my Munin graphs that about every 2 hours the 'cache' usages drops. Before it used be a steady fully graph, that didn't seem to reset every so often. PHP-FPM settings: pm.max_children = 300 daemonize = yes pm = static listen = /tmp/fpm.sock pm.max_requests = 1000 I have checked the php-fpm.log, and about once per 5 seconds a child process is killed, and restarted. But this is all the time, so this does not explain the sudden drops. I only run Nginx, PHP (via fpm), Munin and vsftpd on this machine. No crons run at exactly the time of the drops. My question: What could be causing these drops in cache usage?

• Windows Task Scheduler does not start task at next run time

  I have a Windows Server 2008 SP 2 Task Scheduler task that should run every 10 minutes. The trigger says "At 6:50 PM every day - After triggered, repeat every 10 minutes for a duration of 1 day." Looking at the Next Run Time, it says 6/18/2012 8:00 PM. However, when I let that time pass, the Next Run Time just changes to 8:10 PM but the task has not started and the Last Run Time is unchanged from yesterday. How can I get this task to run every 10 minutes when enabled no matter what. Similarly, I have other tasks that need to run on slightly different schedules: Every 30 minutes (5:30, 6:00, 6:30, etc) Every 30 minutes (5:35, 6:05, 6:35, etc) How can I define these intervals? And why does the task not start at the indicated Next Run Time?

  I have a confusing behaviour. I can't get any error into log file or screen. I made a file index.php with content like this: "<?php a();".Normally, I will get message like this: "Call to undefined function a()" but when I called this script on my configuration I got nothing. Here I can not get back the the screen 2101.pts-0.ubuntu and infact I get exited. Where as if I do screen -r 9531.pts-0.ubuntu [detached from 9531.pts-0.ubuntu] then above you can see I went inside that session and came out and I can do it again and again.But with other sessions same is not the case? SO what mistake am I doing?

• CRL checking problem windows 2003

  Hi all, we have CRL that is valid for 24 hours and has a next update in 12 hours. The CRL is valid from 12:12 AM to 12:12 AM and from 12:12 PM to 12:12 PM. In the logs of the CRL hosting webserver we see that one of our servers not always fetches the CRL at night, in most cases the server that missed the CRL IIS servers 403.16 on 12:13 PM. Is our following theory good: when a windows server misses fetching the CRL on it's nextUpdate but the current CRL is still valid, the fetching is not retried? This leads to a situation that when the CRL expires there is no overlap and gives a little time of 403.16 situations in IIS since the CRL is not thrusted and so all certificates are marked als unsafe? greetings, Tim

• Gnome 3 screensaver (not suspend) resume hook?

  Since whenever my laptop screen resumes sleeping (i.e. wakes up from screensaving) some settings are reset, such as keyboard backlight, I'd like to run some scripts each time this happens. I'm using gnome 3 with fedora 17 by the way. When researching this issue I came across pm-utils which allows one to hook anything to events handled by pm-utils but it seems to me monitor sleeping (i.e. screensaving) is not one of them. Looks like pm-utils only handles suspend and hybernate. So is there a way to hook up custom programs to screensaver?

And i am using this command in post-commit hooks to get notified svnnotify --repos-path "$1" --revision "$2" --from [email protected] \ --to-regex-map [email protected]="branches/Test_branch12" \ --smtp xxxxxx.com HTML::ColorDiff >> /tmp/notify.txt 2>&1 once the commit is successful i can see the below mentioned error in the output file. Use of uninitialized value $[0] in exec at /usr/local/share/perl5/SVN/Notify.pm line 2332. Can't exec "": No such file or directory at /usr/local/share/perl5/SVN/Notify.pm line 2332. Use of uninitialized value $[0] in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/local/share/perl5/SVN/Notify.pm line 2332. Cannot exec : No such file or directory Child process exited: 512 Can anyone help on this.

• Drive still usable if Seatools reports errors?

  I have a Seagate 3TB Expansion Desktop drive that was part of a Linux RAID 6 array that failed. I eventually did a zero fill both through Seagate DiscWizard and via Linux dd, neither reported errors. When I ran Seatools now, I got: Short DST - Started 5/31/2014 10:04:36 PM Short DST - Pass 5/31/2014 10:05:37 PM Long Generic - Started 5/31/2014 10:15:19 PM Bad LBA: 518242762 Not Repaired (whole bunch of bad LBAs ommited) Bad LBA: 518715255 Not Repaired Long Generic Aborted 6/1/2014 3:12:18 AM i.e. the short test passed, the long test failed. Unfortunately, the drive is out of warranty, so I can't just RMA it. But I hate tossing a drive that can still be used. So, my questions are: If the zero fill succeeded, and the short test passed, can I still use the whole drive? if not, since I'm using LVM on top of RAID, is there a way to tell either of these to just skip the bad area? If not the above, can I just create partitions before and after the part of the drive with the bad LBAs?

  Hi everyone, I want to get the business hours from ScotiaBank branches that are near to me. The base-URL is: http://maps.scotiabank.com/ I then, Click on the "Branches" radiobox. Click on the "Open Saturdays" checkbox. Enter "B3H 1M7" (my postal code) into the search box. Click the Search button. Click on the first result that pops up (Micmac shopping centre). Store the business hours as a variable (called businessHours). And now I'm stuck. How can I export the data that I assigned to the variable to a text file or anywhere else where I can view it later? I'm not sure if this is even possible with Selenium, but if it's not, can you tell me an alternative of how I could do this?   Excitement is building for the Collaborate conference April 18th through the 22nd. Outside of the event being in Las Vegas, which for me often seems to add to the excitement, there will be a great lineup of Oracle Content Management focused sessions. In fact, there are currently over 30 content management sessions scheduled, and attendees will get to hear from customers, partners, as well as Oracle experts. Attendees should expect to hear a lot about Oracle Content Management 11g at Collaborate 2010. As Magenic consultants, we all possess many of the “project managing” skills I talked about above and tend to be responsible for item #1 and #2 as well as the actual architecture/design tasks early in a project. When the real development begins and there is no PM involved, the project will quickly get harder to execute unless items #3 & #4 are assigned to a Project Manager.
