  • Can't install SQL Express 2008R2- caspol.exe application error - the application failed to initialize

    I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 on Windows 2003 Server (enterprise edition). I get the following error message: Title: caspol.exe - Application Error Text: The application failed to initialize properly (0x000007b), Click on OK to terminate the application. I get the same error message both when downloading the installer and running it and when using the web platform installer. All the pages on the internet I've found about similar problem say it's a corrupt .net installation issue - This server runs multiple .net apps and I've never had any problems with any of them. I've uninstalled and reinstalled .net (causing a painful outage) and nothing changed. Does anyone here has any idea what might cause this? Update 1: additional information I forgot to include: 32bit version of Windows running in a virtual machine, no anti virus Update 2: when running caspol.exe from the command line I get the same error

    Hi, I'm trying to work on a new project parsing some JSON data for a Silverlight 4 project (specifically created as a "Silverlight Business Application - Visual C#" project) using C# in Visual Studio 2010, and I can't find how to include the references to have parsers and native object support for JSON data. As far as I know my development tools are up to date (checked MS update). I know that I can probably just write my own parser but that seems like re-inventing the wheel. Below are some lines that work in VS 2008 in another project of ours (can't post the files due to their being part of a business app): using System.Json; results = (JsonObject)JsonObject.Load(e.Result); I hope my description is adequate.     Hi everybody. This error has been covered before in other questions, however not for a Visual Studio package. Could not find endpoint element with name 'WCFname' and contract 'WCFcontract' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. I have a VS package project that needs to connect to a WCF service that provides some functionality. Everytime it just throws this error: Could not find endpoint element with name 'WSHttpBinding_IWCFSearchService' and contract 'WCFSearchServiceReference.IWCFSearchService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this name could be found in the client element. My guess is that it's taking the configuration file for Visual Studio (since it is running VS experimental mode). So yeah...why isn't it recognizing the app.config file and how could I make the application to recognize it? Any help would be very welcomed as I have already tried to fix this for some time.   • Visual Studio 2010 - Export Template menu option grayed out

    In Visual Studio, I want to make a simple C++ project and export it out as a template, so I can use the template to start new projects to save me time. But the Export Template menu option is always grayed out. I've not once been able to click it. Anyone know why? Anyone know how to accomplish what I need (besides the obvious "make a copy of an existing project in explorer")? It seems like project templates should be a no-brainer feature for VS. This seems to be the case for Visual Studio 2005, 2010 (I probably 2008 as well I haven't checked).

  • Unable to uninstall SQL Server express

    When I try, I receive the following error message: A computer restart is required. You must restart this computer before installing SQL Server. Of course, I have restarted the computer :-) I'm not really sure how to proceed. The version that sql server reports when I query it is: SQL Server 10.0.1600.22 - RTM (Express Edition with Advanced ) Solved: As it turns out, I had to end up uninstalling logitech's quick cam pro software. Although the fix below did not directly resolve it, the value of that registry key led me to discovering the solution by querying for it online :-) thanks!!!

    I was using sandcastle to generate help for my project in visual studio 2008. When i change my project to visual studio 2010 and change the project .NET version to .NET 4.0 i got this problem with Sandcastel. I can't understand why sandcastel is using C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v3.5\MSBuild.exe and not C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0\MSBuild.exe thinking that i specified as framework version the v4.0.30319 Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue?? Where to change the path of the msbuild.exe or some other solution ??? Generating reflection information...   • Visual Studio 2008 macro only works from the Macro IDE, not the Macro Explorer

    Edit: Creating a new module in the same VSMacros project fixed the problem. The following macro only works if I open the Macro IDE from Visual Studio and run the macro from there. It'd be much more useful if I could just right click the macro from the Macro Explorer from my Visual Studio instance. I must be doing something obviously wrong, but I've never worked with VS macros before. The MessageBox does not appear in either case.     hi all, I have a SQL Server Express 2005 install on a godaddy virtual terminal which currently is only connected to(locally with mgt studio) every few days or so. Every time i try to connect I get a cannot connect to SQL Server error and after a restart it I can connect just fine locally. I was wondering if there is a timeout setting or something that I am missing that I need to change so that if it is not connected to for a while it does not required a restart? any ideas? thanks!

  • What are the performance differences between PCI-Express x16 and x4

    I have two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots on my motherboard, but one of them is actually just x4. For passing through my graphics card to a virtual machine I need to use both slots simultaneously and unfortunately, the easiest way for me to achieve that is putting the stronger card in the x4 slot (secondary slot; I need the stronger card to be in the secondary slot, not the primary). As such I am wondering what sort of noticable performance differences I can expect from using the x4 slot with a strong card as opposed to having it in the true x16 slot. Does it limit the performance so much that the strong card in the x4 slot will actually perform worse than the significantly weaker card in the x16 slot? (For spec comparison I am using a GTX-670 in the x4 slot and GTX-550-Ti in the x16 slot) What implications does this have?

    Running Visual Studio 2008 Professional it is possible to enable static code analysis using the /analyze flag (even though this is not supported for the Professional version according to the documentation). In Visual Studio 2010 Professional this no longer works. Instead there is a default /analyze- flag added (one I can't find a GUI setting for). This does not work as well as the VS2008 version (or at all). Can anyone shed some light into this? What does the new /analyze- flag do and is there any way to enable the old analysis?

    Using the new Visual Studio 2010 SDK developing against the MEF based editor structure there's a question: How can I use the MEF editor interfaces to handle snippet behavior in IntelliSense? The ICompletionSession itself is not a problem (e.g. get the available snippets) rather filling the snippet, handling the subsequently expected actions like tab, enter behavior, text replacement, etc. Is there any way to do that without a language service? Checking the built-in behavior in Visual Studio base editor implementation they built the MEF interfaces on top of a set of language service based objects.

  • Can I "reprogram" an American Express USB drive?

    I recently received a USB drive that looks like a credit card as a promotion. The drive portion flips out to plug it in. When you plug it in, it opens the run dialog, and opens a URL to an American Express web page. I was able to find it in the Device Manager: But I don't know what else to do? Is there a way I can convert this into a plain old USB drive? Or better yet, can I modify the command that it runs when inserted into a computer?

When I created a WPF application, i am seeing two guids in here. {60dc8134-eba5-43b8-bcc9-bb4bc16c2548};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC} Does these represent WPF and Windows type of applications? If I create my own project type (.myproj) that has .xaml and .cs files, what should I fill in this ProjectTypeGuids tags? Should I also need to fill the ProjectType tag?     Hello everyone :) I have an application that needs to operate on Windows 2000. I'd also like to use Visual Studio 2010 (mainly because of the change in the definition of the auto keyword). However, I'm in a bit of a bind because I need the app to be able to operate on older OS's, namely: Windows 2000 Windows XP RTM Windows XP SP1 Visual Studio 2010's runtime library depends on the EncodePointer / DecodePointer API which was introduced in Windows XP SP2. If using the alternate runtime library is possible, will this break code that relies on C++0x features added in VS2010, like std::regex?
