  • Cannot view, use, or open CDs or DVDs in Ubuntu 12.04

    - by user67592
    I am fairly new to Ubuntu 12.04 and I have encountered a rather irritating problem. Whenever I insert a CD or DVD (whether it have data, music, movies, or nothing at all), nothing pops up saying "you have inserted a CD", "play with Rhythmbox?" etc. It doesn't show the CD in the launcher/dock or anything of the sort. This is especially peculiar because not only do I have a standard IDE built-in optical drive, but I have an external USB optical drive. Neither work. In addition, whenever I go to "Computer///" and I click (double click, right click, or even left click) on "CD/DVD Drive" nothing happens, when I right click and select "Open" nothing happens either [for either of the two drives (both are listed in Computer///)] And if I insert a blank disk and go to a disk burning program such as Brasero, and try to burn to the drive it detects no CDs or DVDs of any kind. I'm rather stumped and can't seem to find a question similar to this. :( Thanks for all your help in advance!! :) ~Preston Output of sudo lshw *-cdrom description: DVD-RAM writer product: CD/DVDW TS-H652M vendor: TSSTcorp physical id: 0.0.0 bus info: scsi@5:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/cdrom logical name: /dev/cdrw logical name: /dev/dvd logical name: /dev/dvdrw logical name: /dev/sr0 version: 0414 capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram configuration: ansiversion=5 status=nodisc *-cdrom description: DVD reader product: DVD Writer 300n vendor: HP physical id: 0.0.0 bus info: scsi@4:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/cdrom2 logical name: /dev/cdrw2 logical name: /dev/dvd2 logical name: /dev/sr1 version: 1.25 serial: [ capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd configuration: status=nodisc

  • HTML Tidy in NetBeans IDE

    - by Geertjan
    First step in integrating HTML Tidy (via its JTidy implementation) into NetBeans IDE: The reason why I started doing this is because I want to integrate this into the pluggable analyzer functionality of NetBeans IDE that I recently blogged about, i.e., where the FindBugs functionality is found. So a logical first step is to get it working in an Action class, after which I can port it into the analyzer infrastructure: import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.io.StringWriter; import org.openide.awt.ActionID; import org.openide.awt.ActionReference; import org.openide.awt.ActionReferences; import org.openide.awt.ActionRegistration; import org.openide.cookies.EditorCookie; import org.openide.cookies.LineCookie; import org.openide.loaders.DataObject; import org.openide.text.Line; import org.openide.text.Line.ShowOpenType; import org.openide.util.Exceptions; import org.openide.util.NbBundle.Messages; import org.openide.windows.IOProvider; import org.openide.windows.InputOutput; import org.openide.windows.OutputEvent; import org.openide.windows.OutputListener; import org.openide.windows.OutputWriter; import org.w3c.tidy.Tidy; @ActionID(     category = "Tools", id = "org.jtidy.TidyAction") @ActionRegistration(     displayName = "#CTL_TidyAction") @ActionReferences({     @ActionReference(path = "Loaders/text/html/Actions", position = 150),     @ActionReference(path = "Editors/text/html/Popup", position = 750) }) @Messages("CTL_TidyAction=Run HTML Tidy") public final class TidyAction implements ActionListener {     private final DataObject context;     private final OutputWriter writer;     private EditorCookie ec = null;     public TidyAction(DataObject context) {         this.context = context;         ec = context.getLookup().lookup(org.openide.cookies.EditorCookie.class);         InputOutput io = IOProvider.getDefault().getIO("HTML Tidy", false);         io.select();         writer = io.getOut();     }     @Override     public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ev) {         Tidy tidy = new Tidy();         try {             writer.reset();             StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter();             PrintWriter errorWriter = new PrintWriter(stringWriter);             tidy.setErrout(errorWriter);             tidy.parse(context.getPrimaryFile().getInputStream(), System.out);             String[] split = stringWriter.toString().split("\n");             for (final String string : split) {                 final int end = string.indexOf(" c");                 if (string.startsWith("line")) {                     writer.println(string, new OutputListener() {                         @Override                         public void outputLineAction(OutputEvent oe) {                             LineCookie lc = context.getLookup().lookup(LineCookie.class);                             int lineNumber = Integer.parseInt(string.substring(0, end).replace("line ", ""));                             Line line = lc.getLineSet().getOriginal(lineNumber - 1);                             line.show(ShowOpenType.OPEN, Line.ShowVisibilityType.FOCUS);                         }                         @Override                         public void outputLineSelected(OutputEvent oe) {}                         @Override                         public void outputLineCleared(OutputEvent oe) {}                     });                 }             }         } catch (IOException ex) {             Exceptions.printStackTrace(ex);         }     } } The string parsing above is ugly but gets the job done for now. A problem integrating this into the pluggable analyzer functionality is the limitation of its scope. The analyzer lets you select one or more projects, or individual files, but not a folder. So it doesn't work on folders in the Favorites window, for example, which is where I'd like to apply HTML Tidy, across multiple folders via the analyzer functionality. That's a bit of a bummer that I'm hoping to get around somehow.

  • How to Edit PDFs?

    - by snowguy
    I typically have two needs: Scenario A. Change a single PDF page. In this case I have a PDF but not the original source file used to create the PDF. I don't want to try to recreate the document from scratch. I'd like to open the PDF and change a few things. A good example of this scenario: I was responsible for planning a big event at a campground site, I had a PDF of the site. I wanted to start with that document, highlight some parts, add some labels, remove some parts that weren't relevant. or Scenario B. Combine PDFs or extract information from a PDF This scenario usually arises because I want a single PDF deliverable that is made up of parts that are best created in different programs. In this case I have the source files for all the documents but they don't play well enough together to easily create a single PDF deliverable. For part of it, I may want to use Libre Office Writer. For another page I may want to use Gimp. Still another page I may use Libre Office Calc. I could use Writer as the master document and embed images or the Calc object into that, but for ultimate control, you can't beat separate PDF documents that are then combined. What are the best tools / processes for editing PDFs in Ubuntu?

  • Garage Sale Code &ndash; Everything must go!

    - by mbcrump
    Garage Sale Code     The term “Garage Sale Code” came from a post by Scott Hanselman. He defines Garage Sale Code as: Complete – It’s a whole library or application. Concise – It does one discrete thing. Clear – It’ll work when you get it. Cheap – It’s free or < 25 cents. (Quite Possibly) Crap – As with a Garage Sale, you’ll never know until you get it home if it’s useless. With the code I’ve posted here, you’ll get all 5 of those things (with an emphasis on crap). All of the projects listed below are available on CodePlex with full source code and executables (for those that just want to run it).  I plan on keeping this page updated when I complete projects that benefit the community.  You can always find this page again by swinging by http://garagesale.michaelcrump.net or you can keep on driving and find another sale. Name Description Language/Technology Used WPF Alphabet WPF Alphabet is a application that I created to help my child learn the alphabet. It displays each letter and pronounces it using speech synthesis. It was developed using WPF and c# in about 3 hours (so its kinda rough). C#, WPF Windows 7 Playlist Generator This program allows you to quickly create wvx video playlist for Windows Media Center. • Strings are UTF-16&hellip;. There is an error in XML document (1, 1).

    - by Shawn Cicoria
    I had a situation today where an xml document had a directive indicating it was utf-8.  So, the code in question was reading in the “string” of that xml then attempting to de-serialize it using an Xsd generated type. What you end up with is an exception indicating that there’s an error in the Xml document at (1,1) or something to that effect. The fix is, run it through a memory stream – which reads the string, but at utf8 bytes – if you have things that fall outside of 8 bit chars, you’ll get an exception.   //Need to read it to bytes, to undo the fact that strings are UTF-16 all the time. //We want it to handle it as UTF8. byte[] bytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(_myXmlString); TargetType myInstance = null; using (MemoryStream memStream = new MemoryStream(bytes)) { XmlSerializer tokenSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(TargetType)); myInstance = (TargetType)tokenSerializer.Deserialize(memStream); }   Writing is similar – also, adding the default namespace prevents the additional xmlns additions that aren’t necessary:   XmlWriterSettings settings = new XmlWriterSettings() { Encoding = Encoding.UTF8, Indent = true, NewLineOnAttributes = true, }; XmlSerializerNamespaces xmlnsEmpty = new XmlSerializerNamespaces(); xmlnsEmpty.Add("", "http://www.wow.thisworks.com/2010/05"); MemoryStream memStr = new MemoryStream(); using (XmlWriter writer = XmlTextWriter.Create(memStr, settings)) { XmlSerializer tokenSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(TargetType)); tokenSerializer.Serialize(writer, theInstance, xmlnsEmpty); }

  • How to build a Singleton-like dependency injector replacement (Php)

    - by Erparom
    I know out there are a lot of excelent containers, even frameworks almost entirely DI based with good strong IoC classes. However, this doesn't help me to "define" a new pattern. (This is Php code but understandable to anyone) Supose we have: //Declares the singleton class bookSingleton { private $author; private static $bookInstance; private static $isLoaned = FALSE; //The private constructor private function __constructor() { $this->author = "Onecrappy Writer Ofcheap Novels"; } //Sets the global isLoaned state and also gets self instance public static function loanBook() { if (self::$isLoaned === FALSE) { //Book already taken, so return false return FALSE; } else { //Ok, not loaned, lets instantiate (if needed and loan) if (!isset(self::$bookInstance)) { self::$bookInstance = new BookSingleton(); } self::$isLoaned = TRUE; } } //Return loaned state to false, so another book reader can take the book public function returnBook() { $self::$isLoaned = FALSE; } public function getAuthor() { return $this->author; } } Then we get the singelton consumtion class: //Consumes the Singleton class BookBorrower() { private $borrowedBook; private $haveBookState; public function __construct() { this->haveBookState = FALSE; } //Use the singelton-pattern behavior public function borrowBook() { $this->borrowedBook = BookSingleton::loanBook(); //Check if was successfully borrowed if (!this->borrowedBook) { $this->haveBookState = FALSE; } else { $this->haveBookState = TRUE; } } public function returnBook() { $this->borrowedBook->returnBook(); $this->haveBookState = FALSE; } public function getBook() { if ($this->haveBookState) { return "The book is loaned, the author is" . $this->borrowedbook->getAuthor(); } else { return "I don't have the book, perhaps someone else took it"; } } } At last, we got a client, to test the behavior function __autoload($class) { require_once $class . '.php'; } function write ($whatever,$breaks) { for($break = 0;$break<$breaks;$break++) { $whatever .= "\n"; } echo nl2br($whatever); } write("Begin Singleton test", 2); $borrowerJuan = new BookBorrower(); $borrowerPedro = new BookBorrower(); write("Juan asks for the book", 1); $borrowerJuan->borrowBook(); write("Book Borrowed? ", 1); write($borrowerJuan->getAuthorAndTitle(),2); write("Pedro asks for the book", 1); $borrowerPedro->borrowBook(); write("Book Borrowed? ", 1); write($borrowerPedro->getAuthorAndTitle(),2); write("Juan returns the book", 1); $borrowerJuan->returnBook(); write("Returned Book Juan? ", 1); write($borrowerJuan->getAuthorAndTitle(),2); write("Pedro asks again for the book", 1); $borrowerPedro->borrowBook(); write("Book Borrowed? ", 1); write($borrowerPedro->getAuthorAndTitle(),2); This will end up in the expected behavior: Begin Singleton test Juan asks for the book Book Borrowed? The book is loaned, the author is = Onecrappy Writer Ofcheap Novels Pedro asks for the book Book Borrowed? I don't have the book, perhaps someone else took it Juan returns the book Returned Book Juan? I don't have the book, perhaps someone else took it Pedro asks again for the book Book Borrowed? The book is loaned, the author is = Onecrappy Writer Ofcheap Novels So I want to make a pattern based on the DI technique able to do exactly the same, but without singleton pattern. As far as I'm aware, I KNOW I must inject the book inside "borrowBook" function instead of taking a static instance: public function borrowBook(BookNonSingleton $book) { if (isset($this->borrowedBook) || $book->isLoaned()) { $this->haveBook = FALSE; return FALSE; } else { $this->borrowedBook = $book; $this->haveBook = TRUE; return TRUE; } } And at the client, just handle the book: $borrowerJuan = new BookBorrower(); $borrowerJuan-borrowBook(new NonSingletonBook()); Etc... and so far so good, BUT... Im taking the responsability of "single instance" to the borrower, instead of keeping that responsability inside the NonSingletonBook, that since it has not anymore a private constructor, can be instantiated as many times... making instances on each call. So, What does my NonSingletonBook class MUST be in order to never allow borrowers to have this same book twice? (aka) keep the single instance. Because the dependency injector part of the code (borrower) does not solve me this AT ALL. Is it needed the container with an "asShared" method builder with static behavior? No way to encapsulate this functionallity into the Book itself? "Hey Im a book and I shouldn't be instantiated more than once, I'm unique"

  • LitJSON's JsonMapper.ToJson error: Max allowed object depth reached while trying to export from type

    - by dev.e.loper
    I have an object that I would like to convert to json inside one of the object's methods. I'm using LitJson library. Like so: protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { ... writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Value, JsonMapper.ToJson(this)); .... } However JsonMapper.ToJson(this) produces a server error "Max allowed object depth reached while trying to export from type System.Drawing.Color". My guess is that because its trying to convert an object inside itself its going into some kind of infinite loop. Just curious what is actually happening.

  • QR Code encoding and decoding using zxing

    - by helixed
    Okay, so I'm going to take the off chance that someone here has used zxing before. I'm developing a Java application, and one of the things it needs to do is encode a byte array of data into a QR Code and then decode it at a later time. Here's an example of what my encoder looks like: byte[] b = {0x48, 0x45, 0x4C, 0x4C, 0x4F}; //convert the byte array into a UTF-8 string String data; try { data = new String(b, "UTF8"); } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) { //the program shouldn't be able to get here return; } //get a byte matrix for the data ByteMatrix matrix; com.google.zxing.Writer writer = new QRCodeWriter(); try { matrix = writer.encode(data, com.google.zxing.BarcodeFormat.QR_CODE, width, height); } catch (com.google.zxing.WriterException e) { //exit the method return; } //generate an image from the byte matrix int width = matrix.getWidth(); int height = matrix.getHeight(); byte[][] array = matrix.getArray(); //create buffered image to draw to BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB); //iterate through the matrix and draw the pixels to the image for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) { for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) { int grayValue = array[y][x] & 0xff; image.setRGB(x, y, (grayValue == 0 ? 0 : 0xFFFFFF)); } } //write the image to the output stream ImageIO.write(image, "png", outputStream); The beginning byte array in this code is just used to test it. The actual byte data will be varied. Here's what my decoder looks like: //get the data from the input stream BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(inputStream); //convert the image to a binary bitmap source LuminanceSource source = new BufferedImageLuminanceSource(image); BinaryBitmap bitmap = new BinaryBitmap(new HybridBinarizer(source)); //decode the barcode QRCodeReader reader = new QRCodeReader(); Result result; try { result = reader.decode(bitmap, hints); } catch (ReaderException e) { //the data is improperly formatted throw new MCCDatabaseMismatchException(); } byte[] b = result.getRawBytes(); System.out.println(ByteHelper.convertUnsignedBytesToHexString(result.getText().getBytes("UTF8"))); System.out.println(ByteHelper.convertUnsignedBytesToHexString(b)); convertUnsignedBytesToHexString(byte) is a method which converts an array of bytes in a string of hexadecimal characters. When I try to run these two blocks of code together, this is the output: 48454c4c4f 202b0b78cc00ec11ec11ec11ec11ec11ec11ec Clearly the text is being encoded, but the actual bytes of data are completely off. Any help would be appreciated here. Thanks, helixed

  • Serializing a list of Key/Value pairs to XML

    - by Slauma
    I have a list of key/value pairs I'd like to store in and retrieve from a XML file. So this task is similar as described here. I am trying to follow the advice in the marked answer (using a KeyValuePair and a XmlSerializer) but I don't get it working. What I have so far is a "Settings" class ... public class Settings { public int simpleValue; public List<KeyValuePair<string, int>> list; } ... an instance of this class ... Settings aSettings = new Settings(); aSettings.simpleValue = 2; aSettings.list = new List<KeyValuePair<string, int>>(); aSettings.list.Add(new KeyValuePair<string, int>("m1", 1)); aSettings.list.Add(new KeyValuePair<string, int>("m2", 2)); ... and the following code to write that instance to a XML file: XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Settings)); TextWriter writer = new StreamWriter("c:\\testfile.xml"); serializer.Serialize(writer, aSettings); writer.Close(); The resulting file is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Settings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <simpleValue>2</simpleValue> <list> <KeyValuePairOfStringInt32 /> <KeyValuePairOfStringInt32 /> </list> </Settings> So neither key nor value of the pairs in my list are stored though the number of elements is correct. Obviously I am doing something basically wrong. My questions are: How can I store the key/value pairs of the list in the file? How can I change the default generated name "KeyValuePairOfStringInt32" of the elements in the list to some other name like "listElement" I'd like to have?

  • Problem with cvCreateVideoWriter in OpenCv. Again )

    - by lyuba
    I know, that the issue had been widely discussed before, but after 5 hours of inefficient googling I guess I deserve to ask :) By the way, all such problems concerned earlier versions of OpenCV, so.. I've compiled fresh OpenCV 2.1. from source under Ubuntu 9.10. It works fine except of cvCreateVideoWriter, which returns null to the following request: CvVideoWriter *writer = cvCreateVideoWriter("video.avi", CV_FOURCC('M','J','P','G'), fps, size, 0); I've walked through the OpenCv folders - it even seems to have ffmpeg inside. I've also installed it on the system to make sure. I've changed CV_FOURCC('M','J','P','G') to -1 - all worthless. I would appreciate your help soo much! P.S. I've also explored some new way for writing videos here: http://opencv.willowgarage.com/documentation/cpp/reading_and_writing_images_and_video.html#videowriter But it fails to work as well, showing the mistake: error: no match for ‘operator>>’ in ‘writer >> frame’ My code is here: http://pastie.org/984734

  • c# gridview row click

    - by Martijn
    When i click on a row in my gridview, i want to go to a other page with the id i get from the database. In my RowCreated event i have the following line: e.Row.Attributes.Add("onClick", ClientScript.GetPostBackClientHyperlink(this.grdSearchResults, "Select$" + e.Row.RowIndex)); To prevent error messages i have this code: protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { // .NET will refuse to accept "unknown" postbacks for security reasons. Because of this we have to register all possible callbacks // This must be done in Render, hence the override for (int i = 0; i < grdSearchResults.Rows.Count; i++) { Page.ClientScript.RegisterForEventValidation(new System.Web.UI.PostBackOptions(grdSearchResults, "Select$" + i.ToString())); } // Do the standard rendering stuff base.Render(writer); } My question is, how can i give a row a unique id (from the DB) and when i click the row, another page is opened (like clicking on a href) and that page can read the id. Thnx

  • Using ELMAH and URLRewritingNet Together

    - by Chris Laythorpe
    I have ELMAH setup on my production server and it has done a fantastic job of letting me know about any niggles - as well as any creative SQL injection! I've decided to introduce URl Rewriting and went for http://www.urlrewriting.net/ in the end. It was nice and easy to setup and it's doing exactly what I want with the customer-facing site. The problem is ELMAH. Because I've set the urlrewritingnet node in my config like so: <urlrewritingnet rewriteOnlyVirtualUrls="true" contextItemsPrefix="QueryString" defaultPage = "default.aspx" defaultProvider="RegEx" xmlns="http://www.urlrewriting.net/schemas/config/2006/07" > ...ELMAH likes to do this to it's axd links; http://www.mydomain.com/elmah.axd/stylesheet/default.aspx Does anyone have any idea how to either a) stop the re-writer following the .axd; or b) add rules to the re-writer to get ELMAH to work Any ideas? I'm happy to hack about with the httpHandlers...

  • DataContractSerializer and XSLT not Serializing Class Properties

    - by Russ Clark
    I've written a simple Employee class that I'm trying to serialize to an XDocument and then use XSLT to transform the document to a page that displays both the properties (Name and ID) from the Employee class, and an html form with 2 radio buttons (Approve and Reject) and a submit button. Here is the Employee class: [Serializable, DataContract(Namespace="XSLT_MVC.Controllers/")] public class Employee { [DataMember] public string Name { get; set; } [DataMember] public int ID { get; set; } public Employee() { } public Employee(string name, int id) { Name = name; ID = id; } public XDocument GetDoc() { XDocument doc = new XDocument(); var serializer = new DataContractSerializer(typeof(Employee)); using (var writer = doc.CreateWriter()) { serializer.WriteObject(writer, this); writer.Close(); } return doc; } } And here is the XSLT file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" > <xsl:output method="html" indent="yes"/> <xsl:template match="/"> <html> <body> <xsl:value-of select="Employee/Name"/> <br /> <xsl:value-of select="Employee/ID"/> <br /> <form method="post" action="/Home/ProcessRequest?id={Employee/ID}"> <input id="Action" name="Action" type="radio" value="Approved"></input> Approved <br /> <input id="Action" name="Action" type="radio" value="Rejected"></input> Rejected <br /> <input type="submit" value="Submit"></input> </form> </body> </html> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> When I run this, all I get is the html form with the 2 radio buttons and the submit button, but not the properties from the Employee class. I saw a separate StackOverflow post that said I need to change the <xsl:template match="/"> to match on the namespace of my Employee class like this: <xsl:template match="/XSLT_MVC.Controllers"> but when I do that, now all I get are the Employee properties, and not the html form with the 2 radio buttons and the submit button. Does anyone know what needs to be done so that my transform will select and display both the Employee properties and the html form?

  • Loading XML from Web Service

    I am connecting to a web service to get some data back out as xml. The connection works fine and it returns the xml data from the service. var remoteURL = EveApiUrl; var postData = string.Format("userID={0}&apikey={1}&characterID={2}", UserId, ApiKey, CharacterId); var request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(remoteURL); request.Method = "POST"; request.ContentLength = postData.Length; request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; // Setup a stream to write the HTTP "POST" data var WebEncoding = new ASCIIEncoding(); var byte1 = WebEncoding.GetBytes(postData); var newStream = request.GetRequestStream(); newStream.Write(byte1, 0, byte1.Length); newStream.Close(); var response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); var receiveStream = response.GetResponseStream(); var readStream = new StreamReader(receiveStream, Encoding.UTF8); var webdata = readStream.ReadToEnd(); Console.WriteLine(webdata); This prints out the xml that comes from the service. I can also save the xml as an xml file like so; TextWriter writer = new StreamWriter(@"C:\Projects\TrainingSkills.xml"); writer.WriteLine(webdata); writer.Close(); Now I can load the file as an XDocument to perform queries on it like this; var data = XDocument.Load(@"C:\Projects\TrainingSkills.xml"); What my problem is that I don't want to save the file and then load it back again. When I try to load directly from the stream I get an exception, Illegal characters in path. I don't know what is going on, if I can load the same xml as a text file why can't I load it as a stream. The xml is like this; <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <eveapi version="2"> <currentTime>2010-04-28 17:58:27</currentTime> <result> <currentTQTime offset="1">2010-04-28 17:58:28</currentTQTime> <trainingEndTime>2010-04-29 02:48:59</trainingEndTime> <trainingStartTime>2010-04-28 00:56:42</trainingStartTime> <trainingTypeID>3386</trainingTypeID> <trainingStartSP>8000</trainingStartSP> <trainingDestinationSP>45255</trainingDestinationSP> <trainingToLevel>4</trainingToLevel> <skillInTraining>1</skillInTraining> </result> <cachedUntil>2010-04-28 18:58:27</cachedUntil> </eveapi> Thanks for your help!

  • Adding a JPanel to another JPanel having TableLayout

    - by user253530
    I am trying to develop a map editor in java. My map window receives as a constructor a Map object. From that map object i am able to retrieve the Grid and every item in the grid along with other getters and setters. The problem is that even though the Mapping extends JComponent, when I place it in a panel it is not painted. I have overridden the paint method to satisfy my needs. Here is the code, maybe you could help me. public class MapTest extends JFrame implements ActionListener { private JPanel mainPanel; private JPanel mapPanel; private JPanel minimapPanel; private JPanel relationPanel; private TableLayout tableLayout; private JPanel tile; MapTest(Map map) { mainPanel = (JPanel) getContentPane(); mapPanel = new JPanel(); populateMapPanel(map); mainPanel.add(mapPanel); this.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(800, 600)); this.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); this.setVisible(true); } private double[][] generateTableLayoutSize(int x, int y, int size) { double panelSize[][] = new double[x][y]; for (int i = 0; i < x; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < y; j++) { panelSize[i][j] = size; } } return panelSize; } private void populateMapPanel(Map map) { double[][] layoutSize = generateTableLayoutSize(map.getMapGrid().getRows(), map.getMapGrid().getColumns(), 50); tableLayout = new TableLayout(layoutSize); for(int i = 0; i < map.getMapGrid().getRows(); i++) { for(int j = 0; j < map.getMapGrid().getColumns(); j++) { tile = new JPanel(); tile.setName(String.valueOf(((Mapping)map.getMapGrid().getItem(i, j)).getCharacter())); tile.add(map.getMapItem(i, j)); String constraint = i + "," + j; mapPanel.add(tile, constraint); } } mapPanel.validate(); mapPanel.repaint(); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Not supported yet."); } } My Mapping Class public class Mapping extends JComponent implements Serializable{ private BufferedImage image; private Character character; //default public Mapping() { super(); this.image = null; this.character = '\u0000'; } //Mapping from image and char public Mapping(BufferedImage image, char character) { super(); this.image = image; this.character = character; } //Mapping from file and char public Mapping(File file, char character) { try { this.image = ImageIO.read(file); this.character = character; } catch (IOException ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } public char getCharacter() { return character; } public void setCharacter(char character) { this.character = character; } public BufferedImage getImage() { return image; } public void setImage(BufferedImage image) { this.image = image; repaint(); } @Override /*Two mappings are consider the same if -they have the same image OR -they have the same character OR -both of the above*/ public boolean equals(Object mapping) { if (this == mapping) { return true; } if (mapping instanceof Mapping) { return true; } //WARNING! equals might not work for images return (this.getImage()).equals(((Mapping) mapping).getImage()) || (this.getCharacter()) == (((Mapping) mapping).getCharacter()); } @Override public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); //g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, null); g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, this.getWidth(), this.getHeight(), null); } // @Override // public Dimension getPreferredSize() { // if (image == null) { // return new Dimension(10, 10); //instead of 100,100 set any prefered dimentions // } else { // return new Dimension(100, 100);//(image.getWidth(null), image.getHeight(null)); // } // } private void readObject(java.io.ObjectInputStream in) throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException { character = (Character) in.readObject(); image = ImageIO.read(ImageIO.createImageInputStream(in)); } private void writeObject(java.io.ObjectOutputStream out) throws IOException { out.writeObject(character); ImageWriter writer = (ImageWriter) ImageIO.getImageWritersBySuffix("jpg").next(); writer.setOutput(ImageIO.createImageOutputStream(out)); ImageWriteParam param = writer.getDefaultWriteParam(); param.setCompressionMode(ImageWriteParam.MODE_EXPLICIT); param.setCompressionQuality(0.85f); writer.write(null, new IIOImage(image, null, null), param); } }

  • C# XMLSerializer fails with List<T>

    - by Redshirt
    Help... I'm using a singleton class to save all my settings info. It's first utilized by calling Settings.ValidateSettings(@"C:\MyApp") The problem I'm having is that 'List Contacts' is causing the xmlserializer to fail to write the settings file, or to load said settings. If I comment out the List then I have no problems saving/loading the xml file. What am I doing wrong... Thanks in advance // The actual settings to save public class MyAppSettings { public bool FirstLoad { get; set; } public string VehicleFolderName { get; set; } public string ContactFolderName { get; set; } public List<ContactInfo> Contacts { get { if (contacts == null) contacts = new List<ContactInfo>(); return contacts; } set { contacts = value; } } private List<ContactInfo> contacts; } // The class in which the settings are manipulated public static class Settings { public static string SettingPath; private static MyAppSettings instance; public static MyAppSettings Instance { get { if (instance == null) instance = new MyAppSettings(); return instance; } set { instance = value; } } public static void InitializeSettings(string path) { SettingPath = Path.GetFullPath(path + "\\MyApp.xml"); if (File.Exists(SettingPath)) { LoadSettings(); } else { Instance.FirstLoad = true; Instance.VehicleFolderName = "Cars"; Instance.ContactFolderName = "Contacts"; SaveSettingsFile(); } } // load the settings from the xml file private static void LoadSettings() { XmlSerializer ser = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyAppSettings)); TextReader reader = new StreamReader(SettingPath); Instance = (MyAppSettings)ser.Deserialize(reader); reader.Close(); } // Save the settings to the xml file public static void SaveSettingsFile() { XmlSerializer ser = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyAppSettings)); TextWriter writer = new StreamWriter(SettingPath); ser.Serialize(writer, Settings.Instance); writer.Close(); } public static bool ValidateSettings(string initialFolder) { try { Settings.InitializeSettings(initialFolder); } catch (Exception e) { return false; } // Do some validation logic here return true; } } // A utility class to contain each contact detail public class ContactInfo { public string ContactID; public string Name; public string PhoneNumber; public string Details; public bool Active; public int SortOrder; } }

  • Remove newlines from MarkupBuilder result

    - by aldrin
    Is there a way to control groovy's MarkupBuilder's output and filter out the newline characters? I have code like below: import groovy.xml.MarkupBuilder def writer = new StringWriter() def xml = new MarkupBuilder(writer) xml.basket(){ fruit (type:"apple", 1) fruit (type:"orange", 2) } which invariably outputs: <basket> <fruit type='apple'>1</fruit> <fruit type='orange'>2</fruit> </basket> I'd really like it in a single line: <basket><fruit type='apple'>1</fruit><fruit type='orange'>2</fruit></basket>

  • Difference between C# and java big endian bytes using miscutil

    - by Eric Hauser
    I'm using the miscutil library to communicate between and Java and C# application using a socket. I am trying to figure out the difference between the following code (this is Groovy, but the Java result is the same): import java.io.* def baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); def stream = new DataOutputStream(baos); stream.writeInt(5000) baos.toByteArray().each { println it } /* outputs - 0, 0, 19, -120 */ and C#: using (var ms = new MemoryStream()) using (EndianBinaryWriter writer = new EndianBinaryWriter(EndianBitConverter.Big, ms, Encoding.UTF8)) { writer.Write(5000); ms.Position = 0; foreach (byte bb in ms.ToArray()) { Console.WriteLine(bb); } } /* outputs - 0, 0, 19, 136 */ As you can see, the last byte is -120 in the Java version and 136 in C#.

  • C# streamreader, delimiter problem.

    - by Mike
    What I have is a txt file that is huge, 60MB. I need to read each line and produce a file, split based on a delimiter. I'm having no issue reading the file or producing the file, my complication comes from the delimiter, it can't see the delimiter. If anybody could offer a suggestion on how to read that delimiter I would be so grateful. delimiter = Ç public void file1() { string betaFilePath = @"C:\dtable.txt"; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(betaFilePath, FileMode.Open)) using (StreamReader rdr = new StreamReader(fs)) { while (!rdr.EndOfStream) { string[] betaFileLine = rdr.ReadLine().Split('Ç'); { sb.AppendLine(betaFileLine[0] + "ç" + betaFileLine[1] + betaFileLine[2] + "ç" + betaFileLine[3] + "ç" + betaFileLine[4] + "ç" + betaFileLine[5] + "ç" + betaFileLine[6] + "ç" + betaFileLine[7] + "ç" + betaFileLine[8] + "ç" + betaFileLine[9] + "ç" + betaFileLine[10] + "ç"); } } } using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"C:\testarea\load1.txt", FileMode.Create)) using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(fs)) { writer.Write(sb.ToString()); } }

  • Is there a Java API for creating a XHTML document?

    - by Bedwyr Humphreys
    I want to provide a simple XHTML representation of each of the resources in a REST web service. At the moment i'm using a StringBuilder to generate these which is both tedious and error prone. I don't see these changing after I publish the service but the process of coding each is a bit painful. Is there a XHTML document writer api? Should I just use an XML writer? Which one? Should I just roll my own basic HTML document class - doctype is the same each time, i just need to set the title, metatags and body content, most of which (but not all content) is already in HTML for the GETs. Or should I just use StringBuilder and stop whining? ;) Thanks.

  • asp.net mvc 1.0 - how to render a partial view as a string

    - by Chev
    Hi There I need to render a partial view to a string within a controller action. I have the following sample code, but the ControllerContext.ParentActionViewContext does not seem to exist in mvc 1.0 // Get the IView of the PartialView object. var view = PartialView("MyPartialView").View; // Initialize a StringWriter for rendering the output. var writer = new StringWriter(); // Do the actual rendering. view.Render(ControllerContext.ParentActionViewContext, writer); Any tips greatly appreciated.

  • Error : while creating a file.

    - by Harikrishna
    I am storing records of datatable to csv file with the help of the following code : // we'll use these to check for rows with nulls var columns = yourTable.Columns .Cast<DataColumn>(); using (var writer = new StreamWriter(yourPath)) { for (int i = 0; i < yourTable.Rows.Count; i++) { DataRow row = yourTable.Rows[i]; // check for any null cells if (columns.Any(column => row.IsNull(column))) continue; string[] textCells = row.ItemArray .Select(cell => cell.ToString()) // may need to pick a text qualifier here .ToArray(); // check for non-null but EMPTY cells if (textCells.Any(text => string.IsNullOrEmpty(text))) continue; writer.WriteLine(string.Join(",", textCells)); } } But I get the error like System.UnauthorizedAccessException was unhandled Message="Access to the path 'D:\\Harikrishna\\Monthly Reports' is denied." What can be the problem and solution ?

  • C++: Implementing Named Pipes using the Win32 API

    - by Mike Pateras
    I'm trying to implement named pipes in C++, but either my reader isn't reading anything, or my writer isn't writing anything (or both). Here's my reader: int main() { HANDLE pipe = CreateFile(GetPipeName(), GENERIC_READ, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, NULL); char data[1024]; DWORD numRead = 1; while (numRead >= 0) { ReadFile(pipe, data, 1024, &numRead, NULL); if (numRead > 0) cout << data; } return 0; } LPCWSTR GetPipeName() { return L"\\\\.\\pipe\\LogPipe"; } And here's my writer: int main() { HANDLE pipe = CreateFile(GetPipeName(), GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, NULL); string message = "Hi"; WriteFile(pipe, message.c_str(), message.length() + 1, NULL, NULL); return 0; } LPCWSTR GetPipeName() { return L"\\\\.\\pipe\\LogPipe"; } Does that look right? numRead in the reader is always 0, for some reason, and it reads nothing but 1024 -54's (some weird I character). Solution: Reader (Server): while (true) { HANDLE pipe = CreateNamedPipe(GetPipeName(), PIPE_ACCESS_INBOUND | PIPE_ACCESS_OUTBOUND , PIPE_WAIT, 1, 1024, 1024, 120 * 1000, NULL); if (pipe == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { cout << "Error: " << GetLastError(); } char data[1024]; DWORD numRead; ConnectNamedPipe(pipe, NULL); ReadFile(pipe, data, 1024, &numRead, NULL); if (numRead > 0) cout << data << endl; CloseHandle(pipe); } Writer (client): HANDLE pipe = CreateFile(GetPipeName(), GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, 0, NULL); if (pipe == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { cout << "Error: " << GetLastError(); } string message = "Hi"; cout << message.length(); DWORD numWritten; WriteFile(pipe, message.c_str(), message.length(), &numWritten, NULL); return 0; The server blocks until it gets a connected client, reads what the client writes, and then sets itself up for a new connection, ad infinitum. Thanks for the help, all!
