  I have an error with java/solr when the traffic grows up. • Create App_Data and register Excel application on ASP.NET deployment? (IIS7.5)

  I am deploying an ASP.NET MVC3 application in IIS7. I already deployed other applications but they never made use of the App_Data folder or any additional component such as the Interop library. I used the one click deployement and I sue the default application pool. When I launch the application I immediately get an error stating: [web access] Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request. [browse from IIS7] Could not find a part of the path 'D:\Data\Apps\OppUpdate\App_Data\Test.xlsx'. Then I manually added the App_Data folder inside the deployment directory and the application starts regularly. Then when it comes to the taks that uses the Interop library, I get the following error: [web access] Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request. [browse from IIS7] Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)). Is there any way to automatically add the App_Data folder when using 1 click deploy? How can I register the Interop services? Thanks you, Francesco

• What characteristic of networking/TCP causes linear relation between TCP activity and latency?

  The core of this problem is that our application uses websockets for real-time interfaces. We are testing our app in a new environment but strangely we're noticing an increasing delay in TCP websocket packets associated with an increase in websocket activity. For example, if one websocket event occurs without any other activity in a 1-minute period, the response from the server is instantaneous. However, if we slowly increase client activity the latency in server response increases with a linear relationship (each packet will take more time to reach the client with more activity). For those wondering this is NOT app-related since our logs show that our server is running and responding to requests in under 100ms as desired. The delay starts once the server processes the request and creates the TCP packet and sends it to the client (and not the other way around). Architecture This new environment runs with a Virtual IP address and uses keepalived on a load balancer to balance the traffic between instances. Two boxes sit behind the balancer and all traffic runs through it. Our host provider manages the balancer and we do not have control over that part of the architecture. Theory Could this somehow be related to something buffering the packets in the new environment? Thanks for your help.

Did find: .../libsvm-3.12/python/../libsvm.so.2: mach-o, but wrong architecture when I do "lipo -info libsvm.so.2", I get: Non-fat file: libsvm.so.2 is architecture: i386 So it looks like I'm running 64-bit python but libsvm ends up as a 32-bit program. Any way I can get it to compile as a 64-bit program?

• How to install QEMU on Damn Small Linux?

  i'm trying to install QEMU on a Damn Small Linux installation in order to emulate pentium features in a 486 computer. Though DSL was descontinued, it's the only linux that runs reasonably on the 486 processor, most recent kernels doesn't even boot on 486 architecture. I tried Tiny Core Linux, but it doesn't work in 486, so i seem to have no escape here. The most recent image of DSL is from 2008, it uses kernel 2.4.x, and i couldn't find a way to compile QEMU on it. Firstly, it lacks several compile tools needed for compiling it, and, it have several dependency problems. I tried some pre-compiled packages, but the only one that worked was a QEMU 5.2 RPM package (it didn't had dependency problems), and it was way too old, it wasn't capable of running windows yet, it just gave me the option of emulating a code, not a full OS as windows, and it also didn't give me the option to choose which architecture i wanted it to emulate (-cpu option). Can anyone help me with this? Also, if someone can think of some alternative to it, i'd be grateful. Thanks.

  I will not bother explaining my full architecture or reasons for wanting this in order to keep this question short: Is it possible to auto-cc a certain email account any time a Exchange user creates an appointment or meeting in his own calendar? Is it possible using rules? Our Exchange 2007 server is outsourced, I cannot change the configuration or install plugins server-side Preferably, it still should work server-side, because users may use the Outlook client but also Outlook Web Access Is there any other way, perhaps using group policies? My conclusion so far is that the only viable way to accomplish this is to build an Outlook add-on. The problem there is that it will need to be managed for thousands of desktop users and that the add-on will not work when using another client (OWA, mobile). An alternative architecture could be to pull the information from the user's calendar on a scheduled basis. Given that we are talking about a lot of users, scalability is a major issue, this has also been confirmed by Microsoft. Can you confirm that my thinking is correct or do you have any other solutions?

  Hi, We installed a clustered SQL 2005 installation on windows 2008 and reattached our san drives from another machine and restored to do a migration to new hardware. There have been a few minor issues, but this one has me stuck. Trying to populate Full-Text indexes is not working. • WS 2008 R2 giving "Internal Server Error"

  I have had this problem for a while now and can't find the problem at all. When i open a page it will sometimes give a 500 Internal Server Error message. This hapens on a website that works perfectly but when i try to upload anything it will give this message(all php settings have been set to either 1gb or 3000 seconds as well as the iis headers). Also when i open a simple page which does nothing more than include another php page and include a couple of classes the error will occur. I have no idea what causes this error and would love to hear from any of you on what this could be. I checked the server logs and for the upload issue i found this error: The description for Event ID 1 from source named cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. • Resolving a BSOD/CPU/GPU issue...

  Hello all, I'm getting a BSOD / system crash (sometimes the PC just quits without a BSOD). Hardware Specifications cpu: i7 920 2666MHz / 8 cores (not OCed afaik) mobo: Asus P6T SE ram: 2x Corsair CM3X2G1333C9 (64bit DDR3 667MHz) gfx: ATI Radeon HD 5970 1GB (XFX HD5970 BE) os: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (legit) All bios, firmware and drivers are all up to date (as of today). Symptoms Sometimes the PC runs smoothly, sometimes I get this BSOD. The BSOD always happens when I'm doing something related to graphics, such as viewing a video or playing a game. I get to know about the imminent BSOD ~10 seconds earlier; the PC starts freezing occasionally but increasing in frequency and length of lag (I noticed processor usage in creased from Process Monitor). I've tweaked BIOS settings occasionally but afaik, it was in vain. A day or so ago, I reset it to factory settings. BSOD contents The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000101 (0x0000000000000019, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88001f35180, 0x0000000000000004). 15-12-2010 A fatal hardware error has occurred. Because there are no RPM available currently for SQLite latest version (v3.7.3), I created RPM using rpmbuild the very first time by following the instructions given here. • What do you upgrade to make games load faster? [on hold]

  Let's say you have a relatively modern game like Shogun 2. The loading screens take several minutes. This bothers you and you'd like to improve it. What is actually going on when loading screens are up? I'm guessing assets are being loaded into memory from disk, and possibly being decompressed first. However, what is actually causing the slow down? The memory? Mainboard? CPU? HDD? If you had $100 to spend on upgrades and your only goal is to speed up loading screens without reducing other performance, what component of the computer does it make sense to upgrade for maximum benefit? If your answer is "it depends on the existing setup", what sort of benchmarks would you run to determine what is causing the bottleneck? What if you had $500 instead? I give the two budgets for context. I am not asking for actual recommendations about which component to buy (nor are the numbers supposed to be rigid limits), but what features are important when shopping for components with small and large budgets (a large budget could allow buying multiple components which are not so good on their own, but work particularly well together). I mention Shogun 2 as an example, but I'm asking about reducing overall loading times, across all games, not just one game. Therefore, "put it on a solid state disk" probably won't be good solution, because putting every game on your SDD will quickly fill it up.

• Constant crashes in windows 7 64bit when playing games

  I've tried everything I can possibly think of in trying to fix this problem and I'm totally out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated: The problem: whenever I fire up a game, it works for a short while with no problems and then it would crash. Either its a hard crash, forcing me to reboot, or windows would report that the display driver has stopped working and recovered. Here is a list of things I've already tried: Drivers - tried the latest drivers (catalyst 9.12) as well as the stock drivers that came with the video card. Also have the latest BIOS/chipset Memtest - Ran Memtest86+ overnight, had no problems, the windows diagnostic tool also does not find any problems. Overheating - Video card/cpu temperatures are well below peak (42 and 31 Celsius receptively) PSU Voltage - CPUID shows that the voltage levels are all above what they should be. The PSU itself is only roughly 16 months old and is a good model.   We installed a clustered SQL 2005 installation on windows 2008 and reattached our san drives from another machine and restored to do a migration to new hardware. There have been a few minor issues, but this one has me stuck. Trying to populate Full-Text indexes is not working. • IIS7 Binary Stream Error

  I'm struggling to understand the problem I'm seeing so please accept my apology if the question is vague. I'm running a classic asp app in IIS7 and everything seems to work fine except for one issue that has me stumped. Basically, files can be downloaded from the server which is done using the sendBinary method of Persits ASP Upload component. This component works fine for uploading etc it's just the downloading I have a problem. The strange thing is, I cannot have a pure asp page that serves the binary file. Everything works fine in II6, but in II7 there is a strange problem. • Copy one db diagram from one db to another on different servers? (Same db)

  I used the copy database wizard to copy my database from our test server to our production server, the database copied everything fine except for the diagram. Okay no problem, first I make sure the target database on production has the support objects created to use database diagraming. Then I select to import data from the other database and chose the dbo.sysdiagrams.Go through with the rest of the import data wizard, but then I get the following error: Validating (Error) Messages Error 0xc0202049: Data Flow Task: Failure inserting into the read-only column "diagram_id". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0202045: Data Flow Task: Column metadata validation failed. • Why do manufacturers not show all hardware power usage?

  I find it slightly more difficult to build a computer when I do not know how much power is needed for a component. When selecting a power supply for a computer, it is difficult to know how large of one to get. You don't want to go too large for cost reasons and circuit reasons, but you don't want to go too low and not be able to properly use every component. For instance, a graphics card might say "Minimum of a 500 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amps.)" But it really needs 360W (12V * 30A). So why don't they just say "Uses 360W max and xxxW peak"? Processors, I have noticed are good at reporting their power usage, but aside from processors and sometimes graphics cards, power usage is easily found. What is the power consumed by the Blu-ray / DVD drives? By the HDDs/SSDs? By the Mobo? etc. Why are these questions not easily answered when building a machine?

• Cannot Install Phusion Passenger 3.0.13 with Nginx 1.2.1

  I installed gem Passenger which installed 3.0.13. Then I executed passenger-install-nginx-module which is what the Nginx instructions on http://www.modrails.com said to do. It installs the latest stable version which is 1.2.1 according to the Nginx official wiki page. I said to install Nginx to /usr/local/nginx (which is the default if you go to the nginx wiki website). • Standards for documenting/designing infrastructure

  We have a moderately complex solution for which we need to construct a production environment. There are around a dozen components (and here I'm using a definition of "component" which means "can fail independently of other components" - e.g. an Apache server, a Weblogic web app, an ftp server, an ejabberd server, etc). There are a number of weblogic web apps - and one thing we need to decide is how many weblogic containers to run these web apps in. The system needs to be highly available, and communications in and out of the system are typically secured by SSL Our datacentre team will handle things like VLAN design, racking, server specification and build. So the kinds of decisions we still need to make are: How to map components to physical servers (and weblogic containers) Identify all communication paths, ensure all are either resilient or there's an "upstream" comms path that is resilient, and failover of that depends on all single-points of failure "downstream". Decide where to terminate SSL (on load balancers, or on Apache servers, for instance). My question isn't really about how to make the decisions, but whether there are any standards for documenting (especially in diagrams) the design questions and the design decisions. It seems odd, for instance, that Visio doesn't have a template for something like this - it has templates for more physical layout, and for more logical /software architecture diagrams. So right now I'm using a basic Visio diagram to represent each component, the commms between them with plans to augment this with hostnames, ports, whether each comms link is resilient etc, etc. This all feels like something that must been done many times before. Are there standards for documenting this?

• 503 Error After Microsoft Request Routing Is Installed - 32 bit 64 bit madness

  I have a requirement to install the Microsoft Request Routing component for IIS 7.5 running on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64Bit machine. After installing Microsoft Request Routing via the Web Platform installer our ASP.NET 4.0 application gets a "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." The Windows event log error details says: The Module DLL 'C:\Program Files\IIS\Application Request Routing\requestRouter.dll' could not be loaded due to a configuration problem. The current configuration only supports loading images built for a AMD64 processor architecture. The data field contains the error number. To learn more about this issue, including how to troubleshooting this kind of processor architecture mismatch error, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=29349. I can make this error go away by changing the application pool to run in 32 bit mode by changing the "Enable 32-Bit Applications" setting to true. However I would prefer not to have to do that to resolve the issue. My questions are: Why is the Microsoft Request Routing feature trying to load a 32 bit version, isn't there a 64 bit version for it? How do I resolve this issue without having to change my application pool to a 32 bit mode?

• Windows 7: Moving Program Files location during install using unattend.xml

  I am planning on using an unattend.xml to create a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit setup with Users and ProgramData on a 2nd drive. I have found many samples of how to do this (see below). However I would also like to move Program Files to a 3rd drive as well. i.e.: C:\Windows [SSD] D:\Users [HDD1] D:\ProgramData [HDD1] P:\Program Files [HDD2] P:\Program Files (x86) [HDD2] I have found that this was possible using unattend.txt in XP but all documentation or examples I find about Win 7 only mention Users and ProgramData, not Program Files. Is this possible using an answer file? • Nginx + WordPress + HHVM: Why isn't Batcache working? Would Varnish help even more?

  I've heard great things about HHVM, so I've setup a copy of WordPress blog (on another domain) with Nginx (with the Pagespeed module) and HHVM. Right now the benefits are obvious: on the same config, load times are between two and three times faster. I'm trying to speed up things a little bit, and I've also installed Memcached and Batcache. I've installed the memcached package, copied object-cache.php (Pastebin) onto the root folder of the WordPress blog, and after that I've installed the Batcache plugin and copied the advanced-cache.php (Pastebin) file onto the wp-content folder. Also, I've included the line define('WP_CACHE', true); in the wp-config.php file. It seems it doesn't work, though. If I quickly reload the page several times Batcache should show the cached page, but it doesn't. It's easy to check that by reloading (Cmd+R on Chrome on OS X) the page several times and then viewing the page's code. Under the <head> section I should see some batcache stats, but they aren't there. I wonder if someone could give me some hint on this. On a side note, I don't know if I could add some other component in order to help the performance be even better. I'm thing about Varnish, but I'm not sure if it's just useless and it's just another way to the same I'm currently doing. Any other component there? (I'll test CDN for images, minifying js, etc and some other tricks as well, but I'm talking from the server perspective).
