  • Database for Large number of 1kB data chunks (MySQL?)

    I have a very large dataset, each item in the dataset being roughly 1kB in size. The data needs to be queried rapidly by many applications distributed over a network. The dataset has more than a million items (so 500 million+ 1kB data chunks). What would be the best method to storing this dataset (need to allow adding more items, and reading them rapidly, but never modifying already added data)? Would using a MySQL DB using the binary blob format be appropriate? Or should each of these be stored as files on a file system? edit: the number is 1 million items now, but needs to be able to scale to well over 500 million items easily.

    I'm working with very long time series -- hundreds of millions of data points in one series -- and am considering Cassandra as a data store. In this question, one of the Cassandra committers (the über helpful jbellis) says that Cassandra rows can be very large, and that column slicing operations are faster than row slices, hence my question: Is the row size still limited by available memory?

    so i have been looking around on how to do this but with no success. Im trying to get the value of the name test from an external website <input type="hidden" name="test" value="ThisIsAValue" /> But so far i have only found how to get the value of that with an ID <input type="hidden" id="test" name="test" value="ThisIsAValue" autocomplete="off" /> but I need to try find it without a ID is my problem.   • Best suited tool to document message processing done in C written program

    I am relatively new to UML and it's seems to be very vast I have a small program which basically receives messages on socket and then depending upon message ID embedded as first byte of message it processes the buffer. There are around 5 different message ID which it processes and communicates on another socket and has around 8 major functions. So program in short is like this. I am not pasting entire .c file or main function but just giving some bits and pieces of it so that to get idea of program flow. int main(int argc, char** argv) { register_shared_mem(); listen(); while(get_next_message(buffer)) { switch((msg)(buffer)->id) { case TYPE1: process1(); answer(); ..... } } } I want to document this is pictorial way like for Message type 1 it calls this function which calls another and which calls another. Please let me know any open source tool which will allow me to quickly draw such kind of UML or sequence diagram and will also allow me to write brief description of what each function does?   • Converting a soap message to a document using wssj

    I have been supplied with a jar file that should enable me to connect to a 3rd party system. When I run the necessary class I get an error which states that the namespace for the prefix "SOAPENV" has not been declared. Using jad I have decompiled the class files to try suss out what is going on and the error seems to occur when a soap message is being converted to a document. Unfortunately I don't know much about wssj. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? I'm wondering if it's an incompatibility issue as it's not a recently created jar file and the decompiled code looks different to all the examples I can find. For example, in this section the examples have addNamesSpaceDeclaration rather than addAttribute...     Hello, I am writing a program and part of it is to store the keyed entry in a database on an sql server when the enter key is hit. The database is small and simple with only three entry spots in the table. one for the tracking number, one for the date entered, and one for the time entered. The only thing the user will see is the tracking number text box and an enter button. the date and time will be auto entered when the enter key is hit. i am relatively new to databases so i cannot figure out how to send the data to the database. The database is already configured, just need to get the program and the database talking to eachother. Thanks.

    Hey, I'm just looking for some rough guidance here on the feasibility of a project. I have say a few thousand text documents and I want to create a web based system to serve them up to users in a OS X application. It's just a tiny aside for my family's small business, so it doesn't need to be amazing at the moment, we just want to see if we can can anyone to use it. I can't believe it can be that hard to do this? -Some sort of SQL backend database to manage permissions for users? -Download through the application? -For the moment just want to view the raw text files. -If we want people to pay, how would we go about incorporating that? Sorry for the vague outline. I'm still not 100% sure on what we want. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Gurus, This is with reference to this question where I got one tabular report format. I need to update the user entered values correctly back to the same table rows. I am in the process of doing this by using general form post data methods by using some logics which I think will not be easy to maintain. So, just out of curiosity, Is there a front end creator javascript libraries or frameworks which can create the front end for any query's resultset and updates the corresponding rows when the user updates them from front end. This need not have all the full functionality, any one usable, customizable thing will reduce the code maintenance problems. I have googled for some javascript libraris for this but not able to get which will be suitable. Please suggest any useful tools. My environment is Mysql, PHP, JQuery, XAMPP server on Windows. Is JQuery provides one. Thanks in advance.

    I am getting following error each time I tried to select database. The database 'DB Name' is not accessible. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ObjectExplorer) Note: My OS is Win Vista. When I tried to open SQL Mgmt Studio as Run as administrator than I can able to access database properly. Any idea why it is giving error. I am also getting following error when my asp.net application is trying to access database. Cannot open database "DBName" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'PCName\abcd'. I am not very good with SQL Server, please let me know how to create user and grant them permission in case that is what causing the problem. Thanks.

  • Don't know how to encrypt database using SQLCipher

    I have included SQLCipher into my project exactly like explained in this link: http://sqlcipher.net/ios-tutorial/ But I am not sure how to encrypt the database I have read description from above link but not getting. Actually what I am doing is if application is opening first time then it will copy the database(i.e. without encryption) to the document directory. One more thing my database is blank when copying from bundle to document directory. I have tried to use sqlite3_key function after opening the database but nothing is encrypted. But I didn't found something like how to encrypt database when copying from bundle to document directory. I am planning to use FMDB so it would be better to reply according to that. Please guide me how to do that or point to direction if is there any tutorial for it. Also suggest what should be the standard approach to do that.

Now, I receive online record updates from some webservice and it's not like "data warehouse" every single record can be updated any time and it actually happens every second.     I have created a ContentProvider for my main Sqlite table, pretty much following NotePad example from SDK (although I am not sure whether I will ever be exposing my data to other apps). However, I need to create lots of other, non-trivial queries on that and other tables and views. A good example would be queries to extract some statistics from the base data, averages, totals etc. So what's the best place for this code in an Android project? How it should be related and connected to the Uri-based data access exposed by a Provider? Any good examples out there?

    Is there a way to tell SQL server to use specific default seed value for IDENTITY columns - assuming the (to be run) CREATE TABLE statements do not specify one? I don't really care about altering existing data or altering the seed values for specific IDENTITY columns. I want the same seed for all newly created identity columns. Assume I cannot modify the individual CREATE TABLE statements in any way.

    First off, I'm sorry if this shows no code which is not what Stack Overflow is about..But I have no clue where to go on this. I have a basic CMS I made, and I am trying to distribute it. I want to make it so that upon going to /cms/install for example, they set the database info, and different info to integrate into the CMS. Now my issue is, what would be the best method to allow the user to store that database info? A cookie seems to not be the right way..Could I store database info inside of a database? Not too sure where to go on this. More or less. What is the best way to temporarily store the database information the user gave before arrival of the full CMS.

    Hi, I know, there is a lot of info on mysql out there. But I was not really able to find an answer to this specific and actually simple question: Let's say I have two tables: USERS (with many fields, e.g. name, street, email, etc.) and GROUPS (also with many fields) The relation is (I guess?) 1:n, that is ONE user can be a member of MANY groups. What I dis, is create another table, named USERS_GROUPS_REL. This table has only two fields: us_id (unique key of table USERS) and gr_id (unique key of table GROUPS) In PHP I do a query with join. Is this "best practice" or is there a better way? Thankful for any hint!

    The entities to be stored have 25+ properties (table columns). The entities are pretty diverse, meaning that, most of the columns are empty. On average, I'd say, less than 20% (<5) properties have a value in any particular item. So, I have a lot of redundant empty columns for most of the table rows. Almost all of the columns are decimal numbers. Given this scenario, would you suggest serializing the columns instead, or perhaps, create another table named "Property", which would contain all the possible properties and then creating yet another table "EntityProperty" which would map an property to an entity using foreign keys? Or would you leave it as it is?
