• Can I Use ASP.NET Wizard Control to Insert Data into Multiple Tables?

  Hello All, I have an ASP.NET 3.5 webforms project written in VB that involves a multi-table SQL Server insert. That is, I want the customer to input all their contact information, order details etc. into one control (thinking wizard control). Then, I want to call a stored procedure that does the insert into the respective database tables. I'm familiar and comfortable with the ASP.NET wizard control. However, all the examples I've seen in my searches pertain to inserting data into one table. Questions: 1. Given a typical order process - customer information, order information, order details - should a wizard control be used to insert data into multiple database tables? If not, what controls/workflow do you suggest? 2. I've set primary keys and indexes on my order details, orders and customers tables. Is there special stored procedure syntax to use to ensure that referential integrity is maintained through the insert process? Thanks, Sid

  So, I can create an input button with an image using <INPUT type="image" src="/images/Btn.PNG" value=""> But, I can't get the same behavior using CSS. for instance, i've tried <INPUT type="image" class="myButton" value=""> where "myButton" is defined in the css file as .myButton{ background:url(/images/Btn.PNG) no-repeat; cursor:pointer; width: 200px; height: 100px; border: none; } If that's all I wanted to do, I could use the original style, but I want to change the button's appearance on hover (using a myButton:hover class). I know the links are good because I've been able to load them for a background image for other parts of the page (just as a check). I found examples on the web of how to do it using javascript, but I'm looking for a css solution. I'm using Firefox 3.0.3 if that makes a difference. Thanks

Can you give me some syntax examples relating to my question which can be accomplished in your language of choice which consider useful.   I am looking for a PAM module that can use OpenID to do the authentication. My idea is that I want to logon my Linux box using my gmail account and password. I found there is a open source project in Google Code which seems to be doing the things I want but I don't see any code available for download. I saw there are so many examples or implementations but they are all about web apps. Is there any non-web based OpenID applications in the world? Is it technically possible to make a non-web based OpenID application? I naively think that it should be possible. I can emulate whatever packets the browser send out to the OpenID provider and get back the result. As long as my Linux box is connected to the Internet, I should be able to use my OpenID to login. Appreciate any comments, suggestions or pointers on how to make an OpenID PAM module. Thanks!

  I've been slowly transitioning from a traditional web forms architecture to the MVP pattern (Passive View). So far, it's been fairly easy to implement b/c the views I've dealt with have all employed a classic PostBack model. However, I've come across my first view that will refresh portions of itself via web services. I can't grok where the web service should live (Presenter I think) or how to expose that asmx end point to my View while still maintaining the clean separation of concerns/testability that MVP affords me. I've searched far and wide for some examples on how this might be implemented and have come up with nothing. Please help!

• How to limit the number of connections to a SQL Server server from my tomcat deployed java applicati

  I have an application that is deployed on tomcat on server A and sends queries to a huge variety of SQL Server databases on an server B. I am concerned that my application could overload this SQL Server database server and would like some way to preventing it making requests to connect to any database on that server if some arbitrary number of connections were already in existence and unclosed. I am looking at using connection pooling but am under the impression that this will only pool connections to a specific database on the SQL Server server, I want to control the total of these combined connections that will occur to many different databases (incidentally I can only find out the names of individual db's dynamically as they change day to day). Will connection pooling take care of this for me, are am I looking at this from the wrong perspective? I have no access to the configuration of the SQL Server server. Links to tutorials or working examples of your suggested solution are most welcome!

  I am trying to extract three segments from a string. As I am not particularly good with regular expressions, I think what I have done could probably be done better... I would like to extract the bold parts of the following string: SOMETEXT: ANYTHING_HERE (Old=ANYTHING_HERE, New=ANYTHING_HERE) Some examples could be: ABC: Some_Field (Old=,New=123) ABC: Some_Field (Old=ABCde,New=1234) ABC: Some_Field (Old=Hello World,New=Bye Bye World) So the above would return the following matches: $matches[0] = 'Some_Field'; $matches[1] = ''; $matches[2] = '123'; So far I have the following code: preg_match_all('/^([a-z]*\:(\s?)+)(.+)(\s?)+\(old=(.+)\,(\s?)+new=(.+)\)/i',$string,$matches); The issue with the above is that it returns a match for each separate segment of the string. I do not know how to ensure the string is the correct format using a regular expression without catching and storing the match if that makes sense? So, my question, if not already clear, how I can retrieve just the segments that I want from the above string?

  Hello! I decidet to start my own web project. It should be highload project, and I can't decide which technologies should I use. I'm good in ASP.NET MVC, but I like languages like Python more than C#. I read a lot about Python and Django/Pylons/etc but I didn't find any good examples of highload projects on python. So, the question is: Is Python good for highload project? Is it enough fast? And if it is, are python frameworks like django/pylons/etc good for this? Or asp.net mvc will be better choice? PS, I'm not interesting in Java, Ruby and PHP :) So, I'm choosing only between Python + django/pylons/etc and asp.net mvc. Thanks in advance. Please, don't make holywars :)

• Calling software modules (Java, Perl, etc.) from R

  I've recently started using R for Natural Language Processing tasks and find that a lot of applications are available in Java and Perl (for my purposes). For example: A few perl modules are available to find distance measures between words by querying Wordnet. I am aware of the R Wordnet package, but it does not perform the tasks that these CPAN modules do. Many Java packages for NLP are out there, which I'd like to use from within R. I know of rJava, RSPerl, the simple system command amongst others, but I'd like more examples of how I could make calls to Java and Perl applications from R. Recently I tried capturing console output from a perl script. cat( 'print "Hello World\n";',file="hello.pl" ) system(command="c:\Perl64\bin\perl hello.pl") system(command=paste(Sys.getenv("COMSPEC"),"/c","C:\Perl64\bin\perl hello.pl")) None of the above system commands showed 'Hello World' on the R console. I've used "system" before to run perl scripts to perform tasks without wanting to capture console output. Any hints and redirection to other more extensive sources of information would be highly appreciated. Thank you

It's to be used as a client-side validation and I don't want to prevent users from entering whatever they want. Best to give examples of what should/should not pass validation: So to be specific, the expression I'm looking for is to test to make sure string contains anywhere from 3 to 10 alphanumeric characters. I'd like to plug into an ASP.NET client side validator. NOTE: quotes not part of input (but could be!) " f o o " should pass since there are 3 chars "f_0_0" should pass " fo " should not "F......o......o......b.....a......r" should pass thx

  I have a Windows server that is intermittently losing the ability to lookup DNS information. I'm trying to get to the root cause of the problem but in the mean time I'd like to be able to monitor whether the server can perform lookups. Basically, it should attempt to lookup some common hostnames and the display 'Success' if the lookups are successful. I see lots of examples of doing this with third party components in ASP.NET but I would prefer to be able to do this with a single ASP.Net script that would be portable and not require anything additional be installed.

Explanation 2, 3, 10, 6, 4, 8, 1, 7 then 2,3,10,6 and 4,8,1,7 then 2,3 and 10,6 and 4,8 and 1,7 then 2 and 3 10 and 6 4 and 8 1 and 7 Here as these elements will remain in same order, i will get the maximum difference, here it's 6. Now i will move back to merege these arrays and again find the difference between minimum of first block and maximum of second block and keep doing this till end. I am not able to implement this in my code. can anyone please provide a pseudo code for this?

I am currently making use of the Invoke method to search for DISPID_HTMLDOCUMENTEVENTS2_ONCLICK and have been successful in capturing the event. How can i access a HTML input on the page is filled up with values? (eg. i navigate to www.gmail.com, key in some values into the username and password, and my BHO is activated upon the onclick event?)   I have written a little streaming mp3 server in python. So far all it does is accept a ServerSocket connection, and begin streaming all mp3 data in its queue to the request using socket.send(). I have implemented this to chunk in stream icy metadata, so the name of the playing song shows up in the client. I would like to add playlist management to the server, so that I can manipulate the playlist of the running server. I have a vague idea that xmlrpclib would be suited to doing this, but I'm confused about one thing: When I start the server it listens on port N. The python xmlrpclib examples involve creating a socket and listening for requests. So my question is should server listen on two ports; i.e., one for streaming client requests and one for xmlrpclib calls, or is there a way to do it by somehow delegating the request to the appropriate handler based on its type?

What I need to do now is extend the Claims Identity that's in the current thread / http context and add my own information (DOB, Address.. that sort of stuff) so my question is - where is the best place to do this? any examples would be great.. I have a desktop app and 1 user may be logged in at one time or 50 users may be logged in. I would like to add a chat feature that will allow them to talk to each other without relying on a central server. If I do have to use a central server, I assume that WCF would be the best option? • Getting a table's values into a tree

  So, I have a table like such: id|root|kw1|kw2|kw3|kw4|kw5|name 1| A| B| C| D| E| F|fileA 2| A| B| | | | |fileB 3| B| C| D| E| | |fileC 4| A| B| | | | |fileD (several hundred rows...) And I need to get it into a tree like the following: *A *B -fileB -fileD *C *D *E *F -fileA *B *C *D *E -fileC I'm pretty sure the table is laid out poorly but it's what I have to live with. I've read a little about Adjacency List Model & Modified Preorder Tree Traversal but I don't think my data is laid out correctly. I think this requires a recursive function, but I'm not at all sure how to go about that. I'm open to any ideas of how to get this done even if it means extracting the data into a new table just to process this. Are there any good options available to me or any good ways to do this? (Examples are a bonus of course)

  In various places I've seen the claim that by designing a system up-front, you can significantly reduce development time. I.e. by spending an hour designing you can save a week coding. My problem is that I have never seen a situation where I found this to be true. So I want to know of any examples out there that people have where this would be true: So: What sort of problem arose during coding? (or was avoided?) How could you have avoided (or did avoid) the problem by spending more time doing design? Why was it (or would it have been) hard to fix the problem in the code?
