• Comparing 2 mysql tables and updating only records that have changed

  I have the following. Two mysql tables. I want to copy info that has changed from table a to b. For example if row 1 column 2 has changed in table a I want to only update that column in table b. Table b is not the same as a but has same columns that also exist in a. The other solution I have is to just clear table b and replace it with the contents from table a, the problem with this could be that the script will take longer to execute, since there are more than 10000 records. Any advise for which method would work the best will be highly appreciated

  Hi, I need a little help with ClientDatasets in Delphi. What I want to achieve is a grid showing customers, where one of the columns shows the number of orders for each customer. I put a ClientDataset on a form and load Customers.xml from Delphi demo-data. Another ClienDataset is loaded with orders.xml. Relatively simple, I can define an aggregate on the orders CDS showing the total amount per customer (or the count). (See Cary Jensens article on this: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/29272) The problem is getting this aggregate result from orders dataset into the customer dataset. It is kind of an reverse lookup, since there is a 1-n relationship between customers and orders, not an n-1 as normally in lookup scenarios. Any ideas ? Søren

• Ordering recursive result set in SQL Server

  I am having extreme difficulty constructing a query which returns an XML style hierarchy. We have a database table which contains a hierarchy of URLs for our website. The table contains the columns: ID, URL, DisplayName, ParentID, ItemOrder The parent ID forms a recursive relationship between the current item and it's parent. The item should site below it's parent in the hierarchy and it should also be ordered using the item order against items at the same level in the hierarchy. I have managed to get a recursive query working so it drills down the hierarchy sequentially but I cannot order this by the item order as well.   I have a database framework where I have two tables. The first table has a single column that is an identity and primary key. The second table contains two columns. One is a nvarchar primary key and the other is a nullable foreign key to the first table. On the default import of the database I get the following error: Condition cannot be specified for Column member 'ForeignKeyId' because it is marked with a 'Computed' or 'Identity' StoreGeneratedPattern. where ForeignKeyId is the second foreign key reference in the second table. Is this just something the entity model doesn't do? Or am I missing something?

• Android ScrollView issue

  Guys, We are trying to make a board with sticky notes. We have used ScrollView in which we have LinearLayout. We have four columns. If there are more than 3 notes in one column, scrollview comes up. Issue is, if I try to move Row 5 column 1 note to Row 1 Column 2, scroll views hides all the notes. If we scroll to top of the board, notes become visible again. Any idea what's the issue ? Thanks Salman

  While reskining GridView (ListView with more columns), I ran into a problem, that I couldn't change the color of the Highlighted row. I searched the internet and found out, that adding this can help. <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey}" Color="Transparent" /> <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.ControlBrushKey}" Color="Transparent" /> This solved the issue for some people but it didnt help me. The Highlight color was still in system default. I finally managed to change the color of the selected row, but the highlight is still visible around the border of the row plus i need to get rid of the Highlight in the ColumnHeaders. • Serialized form fields in Ruby on Rails problem

  I'm having a problem making serialized columns in my model persist correctly in forms. If my model validation fails I want to redisplay the "new" page with all my model data still in the forms. Right now, everything except the serialized fields seem to persist (if my Order fails to purchase, on the "new" page the email is still filled in but the shipping address fields are not). Is this a Rails bug or am I doing something wrong? • How to optimise MySQL query containing a subquery?

  I have two tables, House and Person. For any row in House, there can be 0, 1 or many corresponding rows in Person. But, of those people, a maximum of one will have a status of "ACTIVE", the others will all have a status of "CANCELLED". e.g. SELECT * FROM House LEFT JOIN Person ON House.ID = Person.HouseID House.ID | Person.ID | Person.Status 1 | 1 | CANCELLED 1 | 2 | CANCELLED 1 | 3 | ACTIVE 2 | 1 | ACTIVE 3 | NULL | NULL 4 | 4 | CANCELLED I want to filter out the cancelled rows, and get something like this: House.ID | Person.ID | Person.Status 1 | 3 | ACTIVE 2 | 1 | ACTIVE 3 | NULL | NULL 4 | NULL | NULL I've achieved this with the following sub select: SELECT * FROM House LEFT JOIN ( SELECT * FROM Person WHERE Person.Status != "CANCELLED" ) Person ON House.ID = Person.HouseID ...which works, but breaks all the indexes. Is there a better solution that doesn't? I'm using MySQL and all relevant columns are indexed. EXPLAIN lists nothing in possible_keys. Thanks.

• Speech.Recognition GrammarBuilder/Choices Tree Structure

  In playing around with C#'s Speech Recognition, I've stumbled across a road block in the creation of an effective GrammerBuilder with Choices (more specifically, Choices of Choices). IE considering the following logical commands. One solution would to "hard code" every combination of Speech lines and add them to a GrammarBuilder (ie "SET LEFT COLOR RED" and "SET RIGHT CLEAR", however, this would quickly max out the limit of 1024, especially when dealing with number combinations. Another solution would to Append all 'columns' as "Choices" (and filter out incorrect paths upon 'recognition', however this seems like it's processor heavy and unnecessary. The middle ground, seems like the best path - with Choices of Choices - like a tree structure on a GrammarBuilder - however I'm not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions?

  I have two AccessDataSources each returning one row. I want to use the data in each row to populate content on my page, so I figured I would use a Repeater or FormView. However, I would not necessarily want the labels bound to a particular DataSource placed together. For example, I might want labels from the following columns in order (DataSourceName.ColumnName): TestSetup.TestType, TestSummary.FormattedValue, TestSetup.DeviceChannel, TestSummary.CompletedOn. How do I handle this? Do I just have a separate Repeater/FormView for each value? Can I have both Repeater's/FormView's in 'scope' at the same time? Note: No language preference (C#/VB).

  Square brackets allow you to use names for columns or aliases that contain characters not permitted for column names or aliases. a) I’ve noticed that lots of times table and column names are enclosed inside square brackets, even though their names consist of perfectly legal characters. Why is that? b) As far as I know, square brackets enclosing object’s name aren’t actually a part of that name. Thus, if we create a table named [A]: CREATE TABLE [A] ( … ) we can later reference it without using brackets: SELECT * FROM A But why isn’t the same true when I try to reference a column KEY from a table returned by CONTAINSTABLE function? • Silverlight Scrollable Content Problem

  I am fairy new to Silverlight and I have a problem. I have a grid on a page that is resizable when the user resizes their browser window. In one of the grids columns I want to display dynamically added content that is scrollable, as there is more data than space available. I currently have a scrollViewer with a stack panel inside it, that i programmatically add a user control to and then several user controls to that control depending on the amount of content. My problem is this. The scrollViewer does not respect the available space and as such displays its content outside of the viewable area when there is more data than space. i.e. it does not uses it is not scrollable nature. Hopefully this is something simple that I have missed, but i am banging my head against the wall at the moment. Any help gratefully received.

• Undo/Redo Support for Table Changes in WPF RichTextBox

  As part of an editor project, I need to add functionality to the WPF RichTextBox control to allow the user to perform operations on a table. One of those operations is to apply a new width value to one or more columns of the table. I have a function that is applying a new Width value to the TableColumn objects in question, and the table is resizing itself nicely. However, I've noticed that the column-width change operation does not seem to be added to the undo stack. In other words, if a user types something, then changes a column width, then selects undo, the RichTextBox control undoes the user's typing. Undo and redo don't seem to be picking up the property change on the TableColumn object. Is there some way to make this operation occur in a way that it actually is undoable/redoable?

I want to make a CHECK constraint on this table which says that: if Length == NULL then StartTime <> NULL and EndTime <> NULL else StartTime == NULL and EndTime == NULL I've begun to try things like this: Length == NULL AND StartTime <> NULL AND EndTime <> NULL Obviously this is not enough, but even this simple expression will not validate. I get the error: "Error validating 'CK_Test_Length_Or_Time'. Do you want to edit the constraint?" Any ideas on how to go about doing this?

  Imaginary Situation: You’ve used mysqldump to create a backup of a mysql database. This database has columns that are blobs. That means your “text” dump files contains both strings and binary data (binary data stored as strings?) If you cat this file to the screen $ cat dump.mysql you’ll often get unexpected results. The terminal will start beeping, and then the output finishes scrolling by you’ll often have garbage chacters entered on your terminal as through you’d typed them, and sometimes your prompts and anything you type will be garbage characters. Why does this happen? Put another way, I think I’m looking for an overview of what’s actually happening when you store binary strings into a file, and when you cat those files, and when the results of the cat are reported to the terminal, and any other steps I’m missing.

  I have a table whose columns are varchar(50) and a float - I need to (very quickly) look get the float associated with a given string. Even with indexing, this is rather slow. I know, however, that each string is associated with an integer, which I know at the time of lookup, so that each string maps to a unique integer, but each integer does not map to a unique string. One might think of it as a tree structure. Is there anything to be gained by adding this integer to the table, indexing on it, and using a query like SELECT floatval FROM mytable WHERE phrase=givenstring AND assoc=givenint? This is Postgres, and if you couldn't tell, I have very little experience with databases.

It should report the number of rows with the same values for (green.h.0, green.v.0, and offset.0) by only looking at the previous rows. The example above uses the expected values, but assume they are incorrect. How can I add a new column (say "count") which will count all previous rows which have the same values of the specified variables? I have gotten help on a similar problem of just selecting all rows with the same values for specified columns, so I supposed I could just write a loop around that, but it seems inefficient to me.

  I have a three level database with the following structure (simplified to only show the primary keys): Table A: a_id Table B: a_id, b_id Table C: a_id, b_id, c_id So possible values for table C would be something like this: a_id b_id c_id 1 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 3 1 2 1 1 2 2 2 1 1 2 2 1 2 2 2 ... I am now unsure, how foreign keys should be set; or if they should be set for the primary keys at all. My idea was to have a foreign key on table B B.a_id -> A.a_id, and two foreign key on C C.a_id -> A.a_id and ( C.a_id, C.b_id ) -> ( B.a_id, B.b_id ). Is that the way I should set up the foreign keys? Is the foreign key from C->A necessary? Or do I even need foreign keys at all given that all those columns are part of the primary keys? Thanks.
