  • Remote Socket Read In Multi-Threaded Application Returns Zero Bytes or EINTR (104)

    Hi. Am a c-coder for a while now - neither a newbie nor an expert. Now, I have a certain daemoned application in C on a PPC Linux. I use PHP's socket_connect as a client to connect to this service locally. The server uses epoll for multiplexing connections via a Unix socket. A user submitted string is parsed for certain characters/words using strstr() and if found, spawns 4 joinable threads to different websites simultaneously. I use socket, connect, write and read, to interact with the said webservers via TCP on their port 80 in each thread. All connections and writes seems successful. Reads to the webserver sockets fail however, with either (A) all 3 threads seem to hang, and only one thread returns -1 and errno is set to 104. The responding thread takes like 10 minutes - an eternity long:-(. *I read somewhere that the 104 (is EINTR?), which in the network context suggests that ...'the connection was reset by peer'; or (B) 0 bytes from 3 threads, and only 1 of the 4 threads actually returns some data. Isn't the socket read/write thread-safe? I use thread-safe (and reentrant) libc functions such as strtok_r, gethostbyname_r, etc. *I doubt that the said webhosts are actually resetting the connection, because when I run a single-threaded standalone (everything else equal) all things works perfectly right, but of course in series not parallel. There's a second problem too (oops), I can't write back to the client who connect to my epoll-ed Unix socket. My daemon application will hang and hog CPU 100% for ever. Yet nothing is written to the clients end. Am sure the client (a very typical PHP socket application) hasn't closed the connection whenever this is happening - no error(s) detected either. Any ideas? I cannot figure-out whatever is wrong even with Valgrind, GDB or much logging. Kindly help where you can.

    I have used CPAN to install perl modules on quite a few occasions, but I've been lucky enough to just have it work. It's acting as a gateway w/NAT and has been so for quite some time.   • Two threads in a rails initializer file seems to not run them properly

    Initially I was using one thread to listen a queue from amazon and works perfectly. aws.rb Thread.new do queue1 = AWS::SQS::Queue.new(SQSADDR['my_queue']) queue1.poll do |msg| ... but now I appended another thread to listen another queue: ... Thread.new do queue2 = AWS::SQS::Queue.new(SQSADDR['my_another_queue']) queue2.poll do |msg| ... and now it seems to not work. Only the last one receives response... I have to join the threads? I can't understand What is going on?

  • Windows 8.1 and fingerprint readers

    Is there any build in UI for that kind of hardware like it exist in Modern UI for WiFi, Bluetooth, Broadband mobile and other common settings or I'm forced to use separate software (besides the obvious drivers for hardware)? The thing is that I have build-in fingerprint reader in my laptop and I have installed all necessary official drivers for it (and it looks like they are working fine, btw). But I did not find any UI settings where I could change Sign-in option from password/picture password/pin to fingerprint.

  • Sporadic EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL) when in 64 bit mode

    For some reason for a low-number of users (say 1 in a few hundred) the application seem to crash when run in 64bit mode on a Snow Leopard 10.6.3 I've attached the code, but please remind IT IS NOT A CODE issue. The crashed seem to be random in com.apple.AppKit at random locations and random moments. Anyone else had any experiences? Any suggestions other then running the application in 32 bit only? Please do not dilute the feedback by asking for or blaming the code, the code is 100% solid, guaranteed! No memory leaks, the crashes clearly are triggered in 32 bit mode only just after start inside the AppKit itself like deep inside NSThread sleep's callstack.

For example, I can use {if}, {foreach}, or {assign} tags without any problems. But whenever I try to use {html_select_date}, {html_image}, or {html_table}, I get the errors. In case this matters, the programmer who is designing the plugin copied the openXWorkflow plugin and made some changes. I noticed that the openXWorkflow plugin has a file (openx/plugins_repo/openXWorkflow/www/admin/plugins/openXWorkflow/library/OX/UI/Smarty/SmartyCompilerWithViewHelper.php) with a class that overrides the default Smarty compiler, supposedly with the ability to compile shorthands for calling ZF view helpers. That file has a list of Smarty functions, but the list is incomplete. If I add the functions to the list, or simply delete the file, my template works fine, but I don't like to change library files. It may make the app hard to maintain, and I don't know if it will mess up something else. The file has the comment "There is no easy access to the list of Smarty's built-in functions so we need to list them here. HTML-specific functions are not included as we cover HTML generation separately.", so it seems like certain Smarty functions may be disabled on purpose for some reason. Will anything bad happen if I try to use them? If, for example, I want to use the {html_select_date} tag in my template, how would I go about doing that? Keep in mind that much of this stuff is new and unfamiliar to me. This is my first time ever using OpenX or Smarty, and I only have a little bit of experience with the Zend framework. Please let me know if we are using the wrong approach.

  • Is it possible to embed Cockburn style textual UML Use Case content in the code base to improve code

    experimenting with Cockburn use cases in code I was writing some complicated UI code. I decided to employ Cockburn use cases with fish,kite,and sea levels (discussed by Martin Fowler in his book 'UML Distilled'). I wrapped Cockburn use cases in static C# objects so that I could test logical conditions against static constants which represented steps in a UI workflow. The idea was that you could read the code and know what it was doing because the wrapped objects and their public contants gave you ENGLISH use cases via namespaces. Also, I was going to use reflection to pump out error messages that included the described use cases. The idea is that the stack trace could include some UI use case steps IN ENGLISH.... It turned out to be a fun way to achieve a mini,psuedo light-weight Domain Language but without having to write a DSL compiler. So my question is whether or not this is a good way to do this? Has anyone out there ever done something similar? c# example snippets follow Assume we have some aspx page which has 3 user controls (with lots of clickable stuff). User must click on stuff in one particular user control (possibly making some kind of selection) and then the UI must visually cue the user that the selection was successful. Now, while that item is selected, the user must browse through a gridview to find an item within one of the other user controls and then select something. This sounds like an easy thing to manage but the code can get ugly. In my case, the user controls all sent event messages which were captured by the main page. This way, the page acted like a central processor of UI events and could keep track of what happens when the user is clicking around.     Hi everyone, I am putting together a dynamic photo gallery and getting stuck trying to place thumbnails. Basically I am trying to place each thumbnail and caption in its own DIV, floated to the left. The thumbnails are working just as I want them to but for some reason the parent DIV refuses to cover the height of the thumbnail area.     During several recent training courses, I found it very interesting that Worker Thread is not quite known to everyone despite the fact that it is a very important feature. At some point in the discussion, one of the attendees mentioned that we can double the Worker Thread if we double the CPU (add the same number of CPU that we have on current system). The same discussion has triggered this quick article. Here is the DMV which can be used to find out Max Worker Count SELECT max_workers_count FROM sys.dm_os_sys_info Let us run the above query on my system and find the results. As my system is 32 bit and I have two CPU, the Max Worker Count is displayed as 512. To address the previous discussion, adding more CPU does not necessarily double the Worker Count. In fact, the logic behind this simple principle is as follows: For x86 (32-bit) upto 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 256 For x86 (32-bit) more than 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 256 + ((# Procs – 4) * 8) For x64 (64-bit) upto 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 512 For x64 (64-bit) more than 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 512+ ((# Procs – 4) * 8) In addition to this, you can configure the Max Worker Thread by using SSMS. Go to Server Node >> Right Click and Select Property >> Select Process and modify setting under Worker Threads. According to Book On Line, the default Worker Thread settings are appropriate for most of the systems. (And 64bit Debian 7 boots OK, but I've not tried installing under the latest version of VirtualBox as I have just upgraded VBox today.)   • Weblogic domain scale up using EM Grid Control 11gR1

    As you know a weblogic domain consists of set of servers running independently or in a cluster mode, sharing the distributed resources. And in most environments weblogic  cluster consists of multiple managed servers running simultaneously and working together to provide increased scalability and reliability.  These servers can run on the same machine, or be located on different machines.  It's a common task to increase a cluster's capacity by adding new machines to the cluster to host the new server instances.  You can do it by manually installing weblogic binaries to the new host and use pack/unpack commands to add a managed server to this new host.  But with Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11gR1 (EMGC) there is  another way - Fusion Middleware Domain Scale Up  procedure. I'm going to show you how it works.Here is a picture of  my medrec_oradb weblogic domain, what is registered in EMGC. It contains an admin server and a cluster MedRecCluster with  the single managed server MS1. Both admin and managed servers are on the same host oel46-vmware, it's a virtual machine with OEL 4.6 that runs inside our Oracle VM infrastructure.  And here are the application deployments, note that couple of applications are deployed to the cluster.First of all I have to prepare a new machine that will host new managed sever of my cluster. I created new VM with OEL 5.4 using the corresponding Oracle VM template available in Oracle E-Delivery site for Oracle Linux and Oracle VM and named it wls1032. Next step is to install Oracle EM Grid Control 11gR1 Agent to this new host.  You can download it from the OTN page and install it manually,  or you can use Agent Installation Deployment procedure available in EMGC  (Deployments->Agent Installation->Install Agent). Anyway, when you agent is up and running on the new machine, you will see it in EMGC Console in the Targets->Hosts subtab.Now we are ready to scale up our weblogic domain. Click the Deployments tab in Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, and then click Deployment Procedure. Select a Fusion Middleware Domain Scale Up procedure from the list, and click Schedule Deployment. The first page of the FMW Domain Scale Up Wizard is displayed and you can proceed with the deployment process.Select the domain from list, enter the working directory on the admin server host, and also fill the weblogic credentials for the administration server console and the OS credentials for the  admin server host.  Click Next button.  The next step allows you to configure you domain, to add a new manager server to the cluster you should select the cluster in the tree and click Add Server button. Select the newly added server in a tree, choose the target host and  enter the configuration details of your managed server. You can also add new machine and node manager details.  Please note that you cannot change the values in  Domain Location and Fusion Middleware Home fields, so these locations on the target host will be the same as for the admin server host.   Working directory on the target host should have enough free space to store FMW home binaries and domain configuration files.  In my experience the working directories should have at least 3 Gb of free space.  The last thing you should fill is the OS credentials for the target host. The next steps allows you to schedule the execution of the procedure, it is started immediately in my example. The last step is just a review the configuration for the domain scale up. Click Submit to launch the process. You can track the status of the procedure execution by selecting Deployments->Deployment Procedures->Procedure Completion Status in the EMGC Console.As you can see in the picture below, the procedure consists of the many steps, and I'm going to share my experience about the issues that I had at some of the steps. Please keep in mind that you can always continue the execution from the last successfully completed step by clicking Retry button.Check OUI Prerequisites  step may fail if the target host does  not pass prerequisites checks for Weblogic Server installation such as amount of RAM, linux packages installed, etc. Create FMW Clone Archive step may fail if you do not have enough free space in the working directory on the administration server host.Transfer cloning archive to targets  step  may fail if the EMGC agents on the admin server host or on target host are not secured.   You should secure the agent by issuing ./emctl secure agent  command from $AGENT_HOME/bin directory and entering the agent registration password.Both Transfer cloning archive to targets and Apply Clone at target hosts steps may fail if you do not have enough free space in the working directory on the target host. The most complicated issue I had on the Run Inventory Collection  step. Here was the steps:issued system-config-date command on wls1032.imc.fors.ru  and set timezone to "America/Los_Angeles"propagated the changes to the agent bu executing ./emctl resetTZ agent  command from $AGENT_HOME/bin directoryconnected to EMGC repository as sysman and executed the following PL/SQL block:   begin      mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wls1032.imc.fors.ru:3872','America/Los_Angeles');      commit;   end;After that I had to clear the pending uploads on wls1032.imc.fors.ru:  rm -r $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/state/*  rm -r $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/collection/*  rm -r $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/upload/*  rm $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/lastupld.xml  rm $AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/agntstmp.txt  $AGENT_HOME/bin/emctl start agent  $AGENT_HOME/bin/emctl clearstate agentThe last part of this solution was to resync the agent in EMGC console by clicking Agent Resynchronization button (please leave "Unblock agent on successful completion of agent resynchronization" checkbox checked in the next screen).After that I issued ./emctl upload command from $AGENT_HOME/bin on the wls1032 host,  and my previous error disappeared,  but I catched another one: EMD upload error: Failed to upload file A0000004.xml: HTTP error.Response received: ERROR-400|Data will be rejected for upload from agent 'https://wls1032.imc.fors.ru:3872/emd/main/', max size limit for direct load exceeded [7544731/5242880]So the uploading XML file size was 7 Mb, and the limit on OMS was 5 Mb.  To increase the max file size limit to 20 Mb I had to connect to the OMS host and execute the following commands from $OMS_HOME/bin directory: ./emctl set property -name em.loader.maxDirectLoadFileSz -value 20971520 -module emoms ./emctl stop oms ./emctl start omsAfter that I issued ./emctl upload command from $AGENT_HOME/bin on the wls1032 one more time and it completed successfully.   The agent uploaded the configuration information to the EMGC  repository and I was able to see the results of my weblogic domain scale-up in EMGC Console.DeploymentsSo, now the weblogic cluster contains 2 managed servers located on the different hosts. This powerful feature of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control  is a part of  the WebLogic Server Management Pack Enterprise Edition.

    As a side project I've been attempting to make a dynamic display (for example a screen within a game) that shows images from my webcam. I've been messing around with JavaCV and LWJGL for the past few months and have a basic understanding of how they both work. I found this after scouring google, but I get an error that the ByteBuffer isn't big enough. IplImage img = cam.getFrame(); ByteBuffer buffer = img.asByteBuffer(); int textureID = glGenTextures(); //Generate texture ID glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, textureID); //Bind texture ID //I don't know how much of the following is necessary //Setup wrap mode glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL12.GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL12.GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); //Setup texture scaling filtering glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_NEAREST); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_NEAREST); //Send texture data to OpenGL - this is the line that actually does stuff and that OpenGL has a problem with glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGB, width, height, 0, GL12.GL_BGR, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, buffer); That last line throws this- Exception in thread "Thread-0" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Number of remaining buffer elements is 144, must be at least 921600.   • XNA Required information to represent 2D Sprite graphically

    I was thinking about dividing my game engine into 2 threads: render thread and update thread (I can't come up on how to divide update thread from physic thread at the moment). That said, I have to duplicate all Sprite informations, what do I really need to represents a 2D Sprite graphically? Here are my ideas (I'll mark with ? things that I'm not sure): Vector2 Position float Rotation ? Vector2 Pivot ? Rectangle TextureRectangle Texture2D Texture Vector2 ImageOrigin ? (is it tracked somewhere else?)
