  Happy Friday, everyone! This week, I want to highlight a really wonderful resource, the Oracle Linux Wiki on wikis.oracle.com. You can find a lot of in-depth technical information there and it’s probably worthy of a bookmark to check in on occasionally. One of my favorite types of content on the wiki is the do it yourself hands on labs. We do these at in person events like Oracle OpenWorld and also online for our Virutal SysAdmin Days, and those are great because you can get real-time assistance if you have any questions. But, if you’re eager to learn more about Oracle Linux and don’t want to wait for one of those events, you can step through these labs in your own time. All of the information you need is on the wiki. • Where can I find a package for "project looking Glass"? ("The Java desktop")

  Hi, I really really want to find this package. Because after I saw the youtube clip I realized it's just one of those things I must have done before I die. This tutorial would be great if the repository were online. My question is: Where can I find the file, and how can I install it without changing my current desktop? The project was called "project looking glass" and was released in 2007. It is now an "inactive open source project", according to its Wikipedia article. @Takkat found this VERY good live cd, hope it works.

• SSL certificates - best bang for your buck [closed]

  I am in the process of setting up an online store. This is the first project I have attempted which will require a good level of security, so I recognise that an decent SSL certificate is a must. My current (albeit admittedly basic) understanding of the options are: DV SSL - more or less pointless, as provides no verification. OV SSL - better, as provides a basic level of organisational verification. EV SSL - 'better, full' verification, but much more expensive. As this is a new business venture, and budgets are tight, which option provides the best bang for my buck? I have read questions such as EV SSL Certificates - does anyone care? which suggest that EV certificates are a bit of a con. Does this mean that OV certificates offer better value for money, especially for new businesses with shallow pockets?

• Amazon GameCircle Integration

  I'm trying to integrate Amazon GameCircle and I have been able to successfully initialize GameCircle in my app, but the problem is when I click on the button that displays achievements, the GameCircle achievement list comes up but it says "You have unlocked 0 of 0 achievements". Same happens with leaderboards i.e there are no leaderboards for this app. I have created a Leaderboard and a few achievements on the online developer portal for Amazon but they don't show for some reason. Can someone help me with this. Any links/resources that help with integrating GameCircle will be appreciated. Thanks.

• Ubuntu 13.04 ERROR: /etc/apt/sources.list not found

  So, I tried uninstalling the LAMP stack I had following the Ubuntu documentation for it. I also manually removed dbconfig-common. Now, I'm unable to run apt-get update. When I do, I get the error message: E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/htp could not be found. After some digging, I've discovered that I no longer even have an /etc/apt/sources.list file. Also, I've received an error, when trying to run: sudo tasksel install lamp-server That aptitude can not be found. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? I'm not able to find any documentation online that works - all the documentation out there is dated and no longer (or will not) work with 13.04. I followed this link previously prior to posting my question and it did not work for me: How do I fix a "E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/http could not be found." error?

• Clicking on active apps on unity launcher stopped working

  I don't know how it suddenly became this but here's what's happening right now: e.g. I have 2 firefox windows open, so I see 2 small arrows on the left side icon of the unity launcher. Before, when I click on the firefox icon, I see 2 small windows of the firefox so I can choose which one. Now it suddenly stopped working. (super+W still works though). The bug on my system applies to all progams with multiple window instances like nautilus, terminal, etc. Please help, I don't know what to do. I also have cairo dock, compiz, myunity installed in my 12.04. I tried searching online to no avail.

• Doing affiliate program with shops who don't have a program already set up

  I am developing an online shop which has managed to agree with other shops to a comission per sale. Now, the problem, is these other shops don't have any kind of affiliate system. So my question is, is there any way we could arrange an easy way for this? They don't plan to develop anything as they are small shops, so... my only guess right now is to control on my site how many times the links to them have been clicked to have an estimate of potential clients, but don't know how they can know that user came through my site and purchased something. • Testing Git competence

  I hire a lot of programmers for tiny tasks. I very clearly specify that the tasks can only be completed by making a pull request on GitHub. Unfortunatelly, so many programmers do not know Git and often the programmers cannot complete the project due to not understanding/being willing to learn Git, even after they have undertaken the programming of the task. This is bad both for me and for the programmers. Sometimes I end up arguing for why it is inefficient that they just send me a zip file containing the code. Therefore, I am looking for an online service to certify that the programmers know how to make a pull request so I do not waste their nor my time. The certificate should be free for the coders, but may cost me. It is important that the course just focuses on exactly what is needed to make a clean pull request so it should not take more than 5 minutes to go through. Does such a thing exist?

• How can I fix latency problems for car game?

  Basically I'm trying to make a online car racing game for IOS using Game Center real time multiplayer. I have setup a timer that sends data every 0.02 seconds to the other player with the current position and current angle. However sometimes, it will take LONGER then these 0.02 seconds for the package to be sent and then received. In this case i have implemented a method that "calculate" what the next position should be if no position is received based on the last position and angle. However, when the data then receives for let say 0.04 seconds after, it will change back to the last position, which will result in the car "jumping" back and lag. And If i just keep ignoring the data it will never take any input from the other user. Is their any way to prevent this? I suppose this needs to be fixed with some client-sided algorithm.

• Web stalker has purchased a domain name that uses my personal name, web page is defamatory [closed]

  We have been unsuccessful in persuading a stalker's website host to release the domain name he purchased which is my own personal name, e.g., PERSONALNAME.com. You will find my name below in the signature area. Look for yourself. On the one page that this domain name leades to is dreadful and defamatory material. No attorney has felt it worth their time to chase this issue down, and we cannot afford to go to a national or international dispute resolution group to bring this issue to WHOIS. Worse, the stalker is amoral and a psychopath: he would just love the attention. We've even consider trying to find someone to illegally hack into the webpage to at least redirect the domain pointers to my own professional website. This issue has continued now for two years and is affecting my professional reputations as potential clients have looked for me online. Is there any remedy? Your help and advice would be greatly welcomed.

• novice user...firewall

  I've recently ditched windows 7 for Ubuntu 11.10 64bit... I'm a total novice and was wondering do I need to make any changes to the firewall?. I read somewhere that the built in firewall doesn't need touching...but a friend says he uses firestarter,I'd be really grateful if someone could advise me weather to just leave well alone or if I should make certain changes,I'll be doing a lot of web browsing and also proberly a bit of online banking to. Infact this is one of the reasons I've switched to Linux as I was told its much more secure than windows... I just want my comp to be setup in a way that I can access my bank account safely and not knowing what to do about the firewall or how to configure it is off putting... Also do I need an antivirus?..I know bitdefender and eset do a free Linux scanner but again I've heard there not really needed. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my questions...much appreciated. Dave...

• Is it a good idea to add robots "noindex" meta tags to deep low content pages, e.g. product model data

  I'm considering adding robots "noindex, follow" tags to the very numerous product data pages that are linked from the product style pages in our online store. For example, each product style has a page with full text content on the product: http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE Then many data pages with technical data for each model code is linked from the product style page. http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE-1 http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE-2 http://www.shop.example/Product/Category/Style/SOME-STYLE-CODE-3 It is these technical data pages that I intend to add the no index code to, as I imagine that this might stop these pages from cannibalizing keyword authority for more important content rich pages on the site. • How can I have a Bluetooth Keyboard Auto-Connect at Startup?

  I have a bluetooth keyboard for my HTPC. I pair it with my computer via bluetooth, and it works fine. However, when I turn off the keyboard or my computer, it has to connect again (which requires me entering a passcode on the computer and keyboard) when I turn them back on. I've looked through many forums and through that I have found that I'm missing some seemingly vital bluetooth files: /etc/default/bluetooth /etc/init.d/bluetooth /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf In the instructions that I've found online so far, I must change certain lines in any of these files. I am unable to, since they do not exist. Am I missing a dependency or something? I've also tried installing Blueman but that didn't help at all. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). • How can I make sure my website will be available during a presentation?

  I have an online presentation to do next week and I have it all ready to go. The website is HTML and CSS only (no DB), and currently resides on my shared hosting account. Now, although my shared hosting is (relatively) reliable, I have noticed that recently they have been making some changes and my website has been unavailable at times. I don't want this to happen to me on the morning of my presentation, so I am asking what is the best way to prepare for such a thing? My domain is www.presentation.mydomain.com and I would like to keep this if possible (even if issues arise). I have been thinking of a few alternatives: Host my site on two different domains or servers (but what about the domain name?) Have a portable XAMPP version on a USB stick (again, domain name?) Possible failover site/location Update: The presentation will be carried out on their laptop, not mine. So I am unable to install any software.
