• Ein besonderes Oracle Business Breakfast in Berlin

  Seit mehreren Jahren finden bei uns Business Breakfasts statt. Diese Veranstaltung ist üblicherweise an Technologen mit tiefem technologischen Wissensdurst gerichtet. Aus einem besonderen Anlass ist die Veranstaltung am 13.6.2014 in unserem Customer Visit Center in Berlin etwas speziell. Anlässlich des Solaris 11.2 Launches tourt Herr Markus Flierl, Oracle VP Software Development, gerade durch Deutschland. Wir haben ihn nach Berlin in unser Customer Visit Center eingeladen, um mit Ihnen Ihre Cloud Strategien und Anforderungen an ein modernes Betriebssystem zu diskutieren. Vielleicht setzen Sie zurzeit ein Betriebssystem ein, welches nicht aus dem Hause Oracle stammt. Das macht nichts. • Verfügbare Anwendungen für Oracle Solaris 11

  Die Einführung einer neuen Version von Solaris ist immer wieder begleitet von der Frage, wie schnell welche Software für die neue Version verfügbar und zertifiziert ist. Für Oracle Software können wir diese Frage beantworten, da wir ja selber der Hersteller sind. Bei Software anderer Hersteller ist die Situation etwas anders. Wir unterstützen hier Softwarepartner so gut wir können bei der Umstellung ihrer Software - soweit das notwendig ist. Dafür haben wir eine eigene Abteilung bei Oracle. Diese Abteilung veröffentlicht in ihrem eigenen Blog Hinweise auf neu verfügbare Software mit Querverweisen auf die entsprechenden Seiten der Software-Hersteller. Wer also die neuesten Nachrichten dazu lesen möchte, wird hier fündig.   Mein Kollege Karim Berrah aus der Schweiz hat die Informationen des Blogs sehr schön in einer Tabelle zusammengefasst, um die Suche zu erleichtern. Diese Liste wird von ihm von Zeit zu Zeit aktualisiert, wächst langsam aber stetig und hat natürlich nicht den Anspruch der Vollständigkeit, erleichtert aber die Suche ungemein.

  Am 27. März beginnt eine Webinar Reihe für Solaris Entwickler und Administratoren, die sich mit dem Rollout von Anwendungen in Oracle Solaris 11 beschäftigt. Im 14-tägigen Rhythmus geht es um das Image Packaging System (IPS), Bootenvironments, Zonen, SMF und vielem anderen mehr. Software Engineers geben ihre Erfahrungen hier weiter. • How can I dynamically add an <object> tag with JavaScript in IE?

  I have to add either an embed tag for Firefox or an object tag for Internet Explorer with JavaScript to address the appropriate ActiveX / Plugin depending on the browser. The plugin could be missing and needs to get downloaded in this case. The dynamically added embed tag for Firefox works as expected. The dynamically added object tag for Internet Explorer seems to do nothing at all. The object tag needs the following attributes to function properly. id ="SomeId" classid = "CLSID:{GUID}" codebase = "http://www.MyActicexSource.com/MyCuteActivex.CAB#Version=2,0,0,1" Even a general working idea or method would be nice. • NGN/NLUUG conferentie vj2012: Operating Systems

  On April 11th, 2012 the Spring 2012 conference with the topic overarching topic "Operating Systems" takes place in Nieuwegein near Utrecht. Besides talks about Linux, Windows and AIX, there will be a track about Solaris. I will be the first speaker in the Solaris track and giving an overview about Solaris 11 and how features interact. • Announcing Solaris Technical Track at NLUUG Spring Conference on Operating Systems

  The Netherlands Unix Users Group (NLUUG) is hosting a full-day technical Solaris track during its spring 2012 conference. Hot topics like Cloud Computing and Virtualization; the massive adoption of mobile devices that have their special needs in the OS they run but that at the same time put the challenge of massive scalability onto the internet; the upspring of multi-core and multi-threaded chips..., all these developments cause the Operating System to still be a very interesting area where all kinds of innovations have taken and are taking place.The conference will focus specifically on: Linux, BSD Unix, AIX, Windows and Solaris.
