    Hello i have two columns: duration (int) and dateCol (date) in a table. How should i proceed if i want to know when CURDATE() - dateCol will iqual to duration. ie: CURDATE() - dateCol (2010-05-08) = duration (14 days), and then send an e-amil?

  • Fastest way to become a MySQL expert?

    I have been using MySQL for years, mainly on smaller projects until the last year or so. I'm not sure if it's the nature of the language or my lack of real tutorials that gives me the feeling of being unsure if what I'm writing is the proper way for optimization purposes and scaling purposes. While self-taught in PHP I'm very sure of myself and the code I write, easily can compare it to others and so on. With MySQL, I'm not sure whether (and in what cases) an INNER JOIN or LEFT JOIN should be used, nor am I aware of the large amount of functionality that it has. While I've written code for databases that handled tens of millions of records, I don't know if it's optimum. I often find that a small tweak will make a query take less than 1/10 of the original time... but how do I know that my current query isn't also slow? I would like to become completely confident in this field in the ability to optimize databases and be scalable. Use is not a problem -- I use it on a daily basis in a number of different ways. So, the question is, what's the path? Reading a book? Website/tutorials? Recommendations?

    is there any way to "wait for user action on popupmenu" after an element is clicked ? for example: person A clicks on link. javascript menu popups asking what the user would like to do with this link. user should not be allowed to click anywhere else but the popup menu. after user clicks an action on the menu, the default browser action should happen (ie. link to the next page)

    I'm wondering what the difference is between the following two modules # First Example module Parent module Child end end and # Second Example module Parent::Child end Using the 2nd method, it appears as though the Parent module must be previously defined, otherwise I get an 'uninitialized constant' error Given this, what is the preferred way of defining modules such as this and then adding nested children with regards to syntax and file structure (ie. folders etc). Reference to a Rails way would be greatly appreciated. Are these two examples for all intents and purposes equivalent?

When i check get the pid of the process that is connected to the local port, i get the pid of the svchost.exe process. How can i get the user account that the call was associated to?

    This works fine: NSString *myVariable; - (IBAction) doFirstAction { myVariable = @"123456789"; } - (IBAction) doSecondAction { NSLog(@"%@",myVariable); } However, if I do this (substituting the @"123456789" for some code which returns the same value ie "123456789") I cannot access the value in doSecondAction. NSString *myVariable; - (IBAction) doFirstAction { myVariable = [imageNode getAttributeName:@"value"]; } - (IBAction) doSecondAction { NSLog(@"%@",myVariable); } Any clue as to why I cant access myVariable outside of doFirstAction?

    Is there any way I can embed the images within my exe (as resource?) and use it in generated HTML ? Here are the requirements: A. I want to show dynamic HTML content (e.g. using webBrowser control, VS 2008, VB .Net, winForm desktop application) B. I want to generate the HTML on-the-fly using XML and XSL (file1.xml or file2.xml transformed by my.xsl) C. The HTML may contain IMG tags (file1.gif and or file2.gif according to the xml+xsl transformation) and here comes the complicated one: D. All these files (file1.xml, file2.xml, my.xsl, file1.gif, file2.gif) should be embedded in one exe file. I guess the XML and XSL can be embedded resources, and I can read them as stream, but what ways do I have to reference the image within the HTML ? <IMG src="???" /> I do not want to use absolute path and external files. If the image files are resources, can I use relative path? Relative to what? (I can use BASE tag, and then what?) Can I use stream as in email messages? If so, where can I find the format I need to use? http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/inline-images/ are browser dependent. What is the browser used by webBrowser control? IE? what version? Does it matter if I use GIF or JPG or BMP (or any other image format) for the images? Does it matter if I use mshtml library and not the regular webBrowser control?     When using ECMAScripts typeof on plugin elements (i.e. embed or object), Safari & FireFox return "function": typeof(window.document['myPlugin']) // "function" This can't be influenced on the plugin side, as the browser doesn't call the plugin here. Funny enough, in IE the same line evaluates to "object". Is that simply implementation dependent behaviour as per ECMAScript §11.4.3 or am i missing something here?

    I have a problem that I have been trying to figure out and haven't been able to get past it because Chrome/FireFox/IE do not publicly publish their "rules" for pop up blocking when it comes to JavaScript, Flash, etc. I am trying to trigger a window.open() when a user clicks anywhere on page. I've tried this: document.onclick = window.open("http://msn.com"); But all 3 browsers are blocking the popup, even though it is a user interaction.

  • Refining Search Results [PHP/MySQL]

    I'm creating a set of search panes that allow users to tweak their results set after submitting a query. We pull commonly occurring values in certain fields from the results and display them in order of their popularity - you've all seen this sort of thing on eBay. So, if a lot of rows in our results were created in 2009, we'll be able to click "2009" and see only rows created in that year. What in your opinion is the most efficient way of applying these filters? My working solution was to discard entries from the results that didn't match the extra arguments, like: while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)) { foreach($_GET as $key => $val) { if($val !== $row[$key]) { continue 2; } } // Output... } This method should hopefully only query the database once in effect, as adding filters doesn't change the query - MySQL can cache and reuse one data set. On the downside it makes pagination a bit of a headache. The obvious alternative would be to build any additional criteria into the initial query, something like: $sql = "SELECT * FROM tbl MATCH (title, description) AGAINST ('$search_term')"; foreach($_GET as $key => $var) { $sql .= " AND ".$key." = ".$var; } Are there good reasons to do this instead? Or are there better options altogether? Maybe a temporary table? Any thoughts much appreciated!

  • Are there localization tools which spot content strings in xaml/wpf?

    When globalizing a wpf application with static resx classes, it's very easy to miss the odd label or button that has its Content property set to a hard coded string in a particular language, ie English. These should of course be moved off to a {x:Static ...} so they can be localised for each culture. Are there any tools which can spot this and warn you? Built in to VS would be ideal, but I'm thinking that 'style cop' type build tools would do the job as well.
