    I have a bunch of sheets in my workbook, in each one there is an email address at B6. What I want to do is to make a list with all the email addresses. I'm familiar with sheet range (all my sheets are between a sheet "first" and a sheet "last"), so I can do something like first:last!B6 to refer to the range. But what is the formula?

  • Using function arguments as local variables

    Something like this (yes, this doesn't deal with some edge cases - that's not the point): int CountDigits(int num) { int count = 1; while (num >= 10) { count++; num /= 10; } return count; } What's your opinion about this? That is, using function arguments as local variables. Both are placed on the stack, and pretty much identical performance wise, I'm wondering about the best-practices aspects of this. I feel like an idiot when I add an additional and quite redundant line to that function consisting of int numCopy = num, however it does bug me. What do you think? Should this be avoided?

  • Windows 7 Mapped Network Drive Multiplying to Create Duplicates all the way to Z:

    A strange issue came in today from some users. At least two Windows 7 x64 boxes that have duplicate mappings of a network drive. The drive is not mapped with a log in script, but done manual through "Map Network Drive". Everything has been fine for months, but all of the sudden, Explorer looks like this: Files (\\fileServerPath) (S:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (T:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (U:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (V:) Files (\\otherServerPath) (W:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (X:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (Y:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (Z:) There are some other networks drives mixed in there that did not duplicate. The drive is normally mapped to S:\, but it decided to make its way to Z:. What is going on here?     Hello. I am using Notepad++ and attempting to replace all numeric strings within a specific tag (xxxxof my XML document with a new string which has been modified by a specific variable. Here's an example (please remove the space between < and start): < start501234< /start round(501234 * 0.9) = 451111 < start451111< /start Is there a way to automatically find all numeric values within the start tag and do replace it by that same value multiplied by 0.9? I don't have to use Notepad++ if there's another tool that can do this. Thanks!

    I am trying to convert an R script into something that a client can run in batch mode. My code uses generic functions and one snippet which is near the beginning goes like: setGeneric("testInput", function(inputData, params = list()) standardGeneric("testInput")) I've been using R CMD BATCH and it works fine. However I couldn't find an easy way to make my script print the output on the console, so based on that (and suggestion that Rscript.exe is the "proper" way to run R batch files) I decided to switch to Rscript. However when running the very same .R file with Rscript I get the following: Error: could not find function "setGeneric" Execution halted I know there is probably a trivial reason behind this but I just cannot figure it out. Can someone please point me to where the mistake is? Thanks so much in advance. Cheers!

    I am interested to know what a proper x (vector matrix or data frame) input looks like. I am currently using the function in two different sorts of matrices. However, I am not sure how R would interpret my data the way I intend. I will explain the types of matrix by example.     i had once had a very simple one or two line code that would start a function with its own thread and continue running until application closed, c++ console app. lost the project it was in, and remember it was hard to find. cant find it online now. most example account for complicated multithreading situations. but i just need to open this one function in its own thread. hopefully someone knows what im talking about, or a similar solution. eg. start void abc in its own thread, no parameters
