  • view switcher in window

    I used to have button in my file viewer window that allowed me to easily change from list to compact to icons, which was really convenient. Now, in 12.04 (running gnome fallback mode to mostly keep my original layout) I don't have that anymore, I have to go to 'view' and then at the bottom of the menu choose the way I want to display the files. Any way to get this switcher back? In its place I just have a search function and buttons that I don't need and never use.

  • Best way to set up servers for .NET performance [migrated]

    Assume we have 3 physical servers and let's say we are only interested in performance, and not reliability. Is it better to give each server a specific function or make them all duplicates and split the traffic between them? In other words dedicate 1 as DB server, 1 as web server, and 1 as reporting server/data warehouse, or better to put all three services on each server and use them as web farm?

  • Update linux kernel image, How can I do it in safe? (how to revert)?

    based on this post , i am trying to update my kernel from 2.6.32 to 2.6.35 as my intel video card doesn't work. However, I am very afraid that my update would cause my computer crash and lost all the thing.(does not function , esp for video) I am using ubuntu 10.04, currently version is 2.6.32-40-generic. Does anyone try to update to 2.6.35-32??? If in case it make crash? how can i revert back to 2.6.32??? Thanks Kit

    hey there i followed the instructions on this page to change permission of all files in a directory in /var http://superuser.com/questions/47463/how-to-change-permissions-on-all-files-in-a-directory-and-when-new-files-are-ad and now chrome doesn't work.. it doesn't even start. is there a way to fix this. i've tried changing the permission of /opt folder but still no use. thanks! P.S i changed the username and group name to www-data

    I'm thinking on buying the Lenovo USB 3.0 Dock and use it with Ubuntu and Unity, but I haven't found information regarding if Ubuntu already has built-in drivers for it. Are there any websites (or other sources) out there that specialize in this? While the website (or other source) does not have to be geared specifically for part-time work or Microsoft.NET development, if it is than that would be just wonderful.     I have some files in my project that started from a sample in the all-in-one code sample browser: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/4934b087-e6cc-44dd-b992-a71f00a2a6df Some files contain boilerplate code that I modify heavily. They contain MS comments at the top that mention the license, copyright microsoft etc. Am I required to leave the entire comment block at the top of the source files that I modify or is it okay to just include the MS-PL license in a separate file for the whole project?

  • Lenovo Ideapad p500 having Windows 8 booting issues. Boot repair pastebin included!

    I recently installed Ubuntu 13.10, and thought I properly set things up to dual boot into Windows 8, but I continually get .efi errors when I attempt to boot into Windows 8. I installed Boot-Repair and used that to run the recommended fixes. It provided additional boot options within the GRUB2, but none (other than Ubuntu) are working.     I'll often see a URL that looks something like this: site.com/articles/may/05/02/2011/article-name.php Surely all of those subdirectories don't actually exist? It seems like it would be a huge redundancy, even if it was only an identical index file in every directory. To change anything you'd have to change every single one. I guess my question is, is there some more elegant way that sites usually accomplish this?
