  • SQLite/iPhone read copyright symbol

    - by Marco A
    Hi All, I am having problems reading the copyright symbol from a sqlite db that I have for my App that I am developing. I import the information manually, ie, from an excel sheet. I have tried two ways of doing it and failed with both: 1) Tried replacing the copyright symbol with "\u00ae" (unicode combination) within excel and then importing the modified file. - Result: I get the combination of \u00ae as a part of the string, it doesnt detect the unicode combination. 2) Tried leaving as it is. Importing the excel with the copyright symbol. - Result: I get a symbol that is different from the copyright, its something like an AE put together.looks like this: Æ Heres my code how I read from DB: -(void) readCategoriesFromDatabase:(NSString *) rest_input { // Init the products Array categories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Open the database from the users filessytem rest_input = [rest_input stringByAppendingString:@"'"]; NSString *newString; newString = [@"select distinct category from food where restaurant='" stringByAppendingString:rest_input]; const char *cat_sqlStatement = [newString UTF8String]; sqlite3_stmt *cat_compiledStatement; if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, cat_sqlStatement, -1, &cat_compiledStatement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { // Loop through the results and add them to the feeds array while(sqlite3_step(cat_compiledStatement) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSString *catName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(cat_compiledStatement,0)]; // Create a new product object with the data from the database Product *category = [[Product alloc] initWithName:catName]; // Add the product object to the respective Array [categories addObject:category]; [category release]; } sqlite3_finalize(cat_compiledStatement); } NSLog(@"Finished Accessing Database to gather Categories...."); } I open the DB with this function: -(void) checkAndCreateDatabase{ NSLog(@"Checking/Creating Database...."); NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; [fileManager removeFileAtPath:databasePath handler:nil]; NSString *databasePathFromApp = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:databaseName]; [fileManager copyItemAtPath:databasePathFromApp toPath:databasePath error:nil]; [fileManager release]; if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_close(database); database = nil; } NSLog(@"Finished Checking/Creating Database...."); } Thanks to anything that can help me out.

  • warning about data loss c++/c

    - by Dr Deo
    i am getting a benign warning about possible data loss warning C4244: 'argument' : conversion from 'const int' to 'float', possible loss of data question i remember as if float has a larger precision than int. So how can data be lost if i convert from a smaller data type (int) to a larger data type (float)

  • Can I use a binary literal in C or C++?

    - by hamza
    I need to work with a binary number. I tried writing: const x = 00010000 ; But it didn't work. I know that I can use an hexadecimal number that has the same value as 00010000 but I want to know if there is a type in C++ for binary numbers & if there isn't, is there another solution for my problem?

  • Minimalist array creation in c#

    - by sipwiz
    I've always wanted to be able to use the line below but the C# compiler won't let me. To me it seems obvious and unambiguos as to what I want. myString.Trim({'[', ']'}); I can acheive my goal using: myString.Trim(new char[]{'[', ']'}); So I don't die wondering is there any other way to do it that is closer to the first approach?

  • Should I consider memmove() O(n) or O(1) ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, this may be a silly question, but I want to calculate the complexity of one of my algorithms, and I am not sure what complexity to consider for the memmove() function. Can you please help / explain ? void * memmove ( void * destination, const void * source, size_t num ); So is the complexity O(num) or O(1). I suppose it's O(num), but I am not sure as I lack for now the understanding of what's going on under the hood.

  • Convert string from getline into a number

    - by haskellguy
    I am trying to create a 2D array with vectors. I have a file that has for each line a set of numbers. So what I did I implemented a split function that every time I have a new number (separated by \t) it splits that and add it to the vector vector<double> &split(const string &s, char delim, vector<double> &elems) { stringstream ss(s); string item; while (getline(ss, item, delim)) { cout << item << endl; double number = atof(item.c_str()); cout << number; elems.push_back(number); } return elems; } vector<double> split(const string &s, char delim) { vector<double> elems; split(s, delim, elems); return elems; } After that I simply iterate through it. int main() { ifstream file("./data/file.txt"); string row; vector< vector<double> > matrix; int line_count = -1; while (getline(file, row)) { line_count++; if (line_count <= 4) continue; vector<double> cols = split(row, '\t'); matrix.push_back(cols); } ... } Now my issues is in this bit here: while (getline(ss, item, delim)) { cout << item << endl; double number = atof(item.c_str()); cout << number; Where item.c_str() is converted to a 0. Shouldn't that be still a string having the same value as item? It works on a separate example if I do straight from string to c_string, but when I use this getline I end up in this error situation, hints?

  • passing a class method as opposed to a function in std::sort

    - by memC
    hi, Within a class, I am trying to sort a vector, by passing a method of the same class. But it gives errors at the time of compilation. Can anyone tell what the problem is? Thank you! it gives the following error: argument of type bool (Sorter::)(D&, D&)' does not matchbool (Sorter::*)(D&, D&)' I have also tried using sortBynumber(D const& d1, D const& d2) #include<vector> #include<stdio.h> #include<iostream> #include<algorithm> class D { public: int getNumber(); D(int val); ~D(){}; private: int num; }; D::D(int val){ num = val; }; int D::getNumber(){ return num; }; class Sorter { public: void doSorting(); bool sortByNumber(D& d1, D& d2); std::vector<D> vec_D; Sorter(); ~Sorter(){}; private: int num; }; Sorter::Sorter(){ int i; for ( i = 0; i < 10; i++){ vec_D.push_back(D(i)); } }; bool Sorter::sortByNumber(D& d1, D& d2){ return d1.getNumber() < d2.getNumber(); }; void Sorter::doSorting(){ std::sort(vec_D.begin(), vec_D.end(), this->sortByNumber); }; int main(){ Sorter s; s.doSorting(); std::cout << "\nPress RETURN to continue..."; std::cin.get(); return 0; }

  • [C++] std::string manipulation: whitespace, "newline escapes '\'" and comments #

    - by rubenvb
    Kind of looking for affirmation here. I have some hand-written code, which I'm not shy to say I'm proud of, which reads a file, removes leading whitespace, processes newline escapes '\' and removes comments starting with #. It also removes all empty lines (also whitespace-only ones). Any thoughts/recommendations? I could probably replace some std::cout's with std::runtime_errors... but that's not a priority here :) const int RecipeReader::readRecipe() { ifstream is_recipe(s_buffer.c_str()); if (!is_recipe) cout << "unable to open file" << endl; while (getline(is_recipe, s_buffer)) { // whitespace+comment removeLeadingWhitespace(s_buffer); processComment(s_buffer); // newline escapes + append all subsequent lines with '\' processNewlineEscapes(s_buffer, is_recipe); // store the real text line if (!s_buffer.empty()) v_s_recipe.push_back(s_buffer); s_buffer.clear(); } is_recipe.close(); return 0; } void RecipeReader::processNewlineEscapes(string &s_string, ifstream &is_stream) { string s_temp; size_t sz_index = s_string.find_first_of("\\"); while (sz_index <= s_string.length()) { if (getline(is_stream,s_temp)) { removeLeadingWhitespace(s_temp); processComment(s_temp); s_string = s_string.substr(0,sz_index-1) + " " + s_temp; } else cout << "Error: newline escape '\' found at EOF" << endl; sz_index = s_string.find_first_of("\\"); } } void RecipeReader::processComment(string &s_string) { size_t sz_index = s_string.find_first_of("#"); s_string = s_string.substr(0,sz_index); } void RecipeReader::removeLeadingWhitespace(string &s_string) { const size_t sz_length = s_string.size(); size_t sz_index = s_string.find_first_not_of(" \t"); if (sz_index <= sz_length) s_string = s_string.substr(sz_index); else if ((sz_index > sz_length) && (sz_length != 0)) // "empty" lines with only whitespace s_string.clear(); } Some extra info: the first s_buffer passed to the ifstream contains the filename, std::string s_buffer is a class data member, so is std::vector v_s_recipe. Any comment is welcome :)

  • How do I invert a colour?

    - by ThePower
    I know that this won't directly invert a colour, it will just 'oppose' it. I was wondering if anyone knew a simple way (a few lines of code) to invert a colour from any given colour? At the moment I have this (which isn't exactly the definition of an invert): const int RGBMAX = 255; Color InvertMeAColour(Color ColourToInvert) { return Color.FromArgb(RGBMAX - ColourToInvert.R, RGBMAX - ColourToInvert.G, RGBMAX - ColourToInvert.B); }

  • Vector iterators in for loops, return statements, warning, c++

    - by Crystal
    Had 3 questions regarding a hw assignment for C++. The goal was to create a simple palindrome method. Here is my template for that: #ifndef PALINDROME_H #define PALINDROME_H #include <vector> #include <iostream> #include <cmath> template <class T> static bool palindrome(const std::vector<T> &input) { std::vector<T>::const_iterator it = input.begin(); std::vector<T>::const_reverse_iterator rit = input.rbegin(); for (int i = 0; i < input.size()/2; i++, it++, rit++) { if (!(*it == *rit)) { return false; } } return true; } template <class T> static void showVector(const std::vector<T> &input) { for (std::vector<T>::const_iterator it = input.begin(); it != input.end(); it++) { std::cout << *it << " "; } } #endif Regarding the above code, can you have more than one iterator declared in the first part of the for loop? I tried defining both the "it" and "rit" in the palindrome() method, and I kept on getting an error about needing a "," before rit. But when I cut and paste outside the for loop, no errors from the compiler. (I'm using VS 2008). Second question, I pretty much just brain farted on this one. But is the way I have my return statements in the palindrome() method ok? In my head, I think it works like, once the *it and *rit do not equal each other, then the function returns false, and the method exits at this point. Otherwise if it goes all the way through the for loop, then it returns true at the end. I totally brain farted on how return statements work in if blocks and I tried looking up a good example in my book and I couldn't find one. Finally, I get this warnings: \palindrome.h(14) : warning C4018: '<' : signed/unsigned mismatch Now is that because I run my for loop until (i < input.size()/2) and the compiler is telling me that input can be negative? Thanks!

  • C++ vector and segmentation faults

    - by Headspin
    I am working on a simple mathematical parser. Something that just reads number = 1 + 2; I have a vector containing these tokens. They store a type and string value of the character. I am trying to step through the vector to build an AST of these tokens, and I keep getting segmentation faults, even when I am under the impression my code should prevent this from happening. Here is the bit of code that builds the AST: struct ASTGen { const vector<Token> &Tokens; unsigned int size, pointer; ASTGen(const vector<Token> &t) : Tokens(t), pointer(0) { size = Tokens.size() - 1; } unsigned int next() { return pointer + 1; } Node* Statement() { if(next() <= size) { switch(Tokens[next()].type) { case EQUALS : Node* n = Assignment_Expr(); return n; } } advance(); } void advance() { if(next() <= size) ++pointer; } Node* Assignment_Expr() { Node* lnode = new Node(Tokens[pointer], NULL, NULL); advance(); Node* n = new Node(Tokens[pointer], lnode, Expression()); return n; } Node* Expression() { if(next() <= size) { advance(); if(Tokens[next()].type == SEMICOLON) { Node* n = new Node(Tokens[pointer], NULL, NULL); return n; } if(Tokens[next()].type == PLUS) { Node* lnode = new Node(Tokens[pointer], NULL, NULL); advance(); Node* n = new Node(Tokens[pointer], lnode, Expression()); return n; } } } }; ... ASTGen AST(Tokens); Node* Tree = AST.Statement(); cout << Tree->Right->Data.svalue << endl; I can access Tree->Data.svalue and get the = Node's token info, so I know that node is getting spawned, and I can also get Tree->Left->Data.svalue and get the variable to the left of the = I have re-written it many times trying out different methods for stepping through the vector, but I always get a segmentation fault when I try to access the = right node (which should be the + node) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • No Matching Function Error for inserting into a list in c++

  • NSMutableArray does not print well with several lines of string

While part of the value appears meaningful, some of the characters of those values are absurd like "00fu". How can I print them in proper fashion ?
