  • Using shortkeys to search the internet for a term selected in a text editor/viewer

    - by cipricus
It seems possible (as I learned from a comment to this question made by user55822) to use a command in order to search a term on the web by using "keybinding" the way Aretha is used. What the aforementioned user says is that "you could search mouse selection anywhere by using an app like Artha, or by keybinding sh -c 'firefox "http://translate.google.com/#en/fr/$(xclip -o)"' (example given translate english into french)" A lot of things are obscure for me here. I could use Artha or keybinding (as alternative), or both? How to do that in each case? and "The command I gave you will open google translate in Firefox with your mouse selection (text highlighted) as a query. Use sh -c 'firefox "https://www.google.com/search?q=$(xclip -o)"' if you want regular Google over Google translate. And obviously, that would work everywhere" I do not know what to do with that formula. What should I do exactly? How to use it? In what application?

  • Find out when a new domain appears in search results

    - by TerryB
Does anyone know a way to perform the following: I want to know whenever a new domain starts appearing in the google search results for a particular query. For a given google search query, I'd like to receive an alert whenever a new domain pops up and starts appearing in the search results for that query. Alternatively, it would be great if you could just sort google search results by the age of the domain, making it easy to find new sites. As far as I can tell you can only sort by when the page was "last updated". Is something like this possible? EDIT: Following John's suggestion of Google Alerts. The problem with Google Alerts is that it sends you any new PAGES appearing in the search results, not just new DOMAINS.

  • Google Chrome (not chromium) is crashing XFCE on startup. Where can I find some detailed logs of the issue?

    - by MALON
I'm using xubuntu 12.10 and every time I open Chrome, the desktop enviro crashes then automatically restarts, prompting me to log in again. This is the latest x86 .deb downloaded from Chrome's website. I've tried both installing the .deb using the software package manager and using sudo dpkg -i, same issue for both, except that the package manager puts out an alert that says "This package is of bad quality", but doing a quick google search reveals that particular message is a bug in Chrome and it's safe to ignore.

  • Visual Studio Code Analysis: CA0001 Error Running Code Analysis - object reference not set to an instance of an object

    - by sturdytree
For a WPF application being developed in VS 2012 (Ultimate), the application runs fine when a particular project's code analysis is disabled. Enabling it results in the error above. This was working fine until recently (i.e. running with code analysis enabled for the particular project) and the only recent change I can think of is removing NHibernate Profiler (using NuGet). Will be grateful for any pointers on how to debug this, or to see a more detailed log/error message.

Hello we are haunted by occasional occurences of exceptions such as: com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException: Type 'xxx' was not assignable to 'com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.IsSerializable' and did not have a custom field serializer. For security purposes, this type will not be serialized.: instance = xxx at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serialize(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:610) at com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.impl.AbstractSerializationStreamWriter.writeObject(AbstractSerializationStreamWriter.java:129) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter$ValueWriter$8.write(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:152) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.impl.ServerSerializationStreamWriter.serializeValue(ServerSerializationStreamWriter.java:534) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.encodeResponse(RPC.java:609) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.encodeResponseForSuccess(RPC.java:467) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RPC.invokeAndEncodeResponse(RPC.java:564) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RemoteServiceServlet.processCall(RemoteServiceServlet.java:188) at de.softconex.travicemanager.server.TraviceManagerServiceImpl.processCall(TraviceManagerServiceImpl.java:615) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.RemoteServiceServlet.processPost(RemoteServiceServlet.java:224) at com.google.gwt.user.server.rpc.AbstractRemoteServiceServlet.doPost(AbstractRemoteServiceServlet.java:62) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:710) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:803) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:290) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(ReplyHeaderFilter.java:96) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:235) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValve.java:230) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValve.java:175) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.SecurityAssociationValve.invoke(SecurityAssociationValve.java:179) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.security.JaccContextValve.invoke(JaccContextValve.java:84) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java:127) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:102) at org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.jca.CachedConnectionValve.invoke(CachedConnectionValve.java:157) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve.java:109) at org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:262) at org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpAprProcessor.process(AjpAprProcessor.java:419) at org.apache.coyote.ajp.AjpAprProtocol$AjpConnectionHandler.process(AjpAprProtocol.java:378) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.AprEndpoint$Worker.run(AprEndpoint.java:1508) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) The application is normally running fine. The indicated class implements Serializable (the whole object graph). So far the only patterns / observations are: we seem to have the issue only when the application is used inside an iframe the problem seems to happen when a new version of the application has been deployed running firefox in privacy mode (disabling all caches etc.) doesn't fix the problem Any ideas? • how to exclude a Web Reference from Code Coverage in VS 2008 Team System

    - by Sarah Vessels
When I run my MSTest tests in Visual Studio 2008 Team System and get code coverage results, I always see a particular web service included. I don't care how well this web service is tested, I'm intentionally only using a small part of it. How can I exclude the Web Reference from showing up in my Code Coverage results? I see that someone asked this very question over on Microsoft Connect and it's marked as postponed, but I was hoping someone knew of a workaround.

  • Google maps API : custom infowindow : V2 : Input element not clickable : G_MAP_FLOAT_PANE

    - by PlanetUnknown
I'm trying to make a custom infowindow. Version = 2. I have added my DIV to the map as follows - $("#infoWindowClass").appendTo(map.getPane(G_MAP_MARKER_MOUSE_TARGET_PANE)); The infoWindowClass is - #infoWindowClass { position:absolute; padding:10px; height: 155px; width: 225px; background-color: #E7F8CD; color: #3F3F3F; border:0.5px solid #8D8D8D; font-size:80%; } Per documentation, this is above all other DIV layers. This DIV has two input fields, however I can't click on any of them. I manually added the z-index to 990 for this DIV but the input fields are still not clickable. Any pointers ?

  • XHR readyState = 4 but Status = 0 in Google Chrome Browser

    - by Jay
Hello i'v got a strange Problem with an AJAX call on my site. I make a simple AJAX call to a Script on my site. But the AJAX call fails with readState=4 and Staus = 0. There's no cross domain problem because the script i want to call is on my server. $.ajax({ type:"GET", url: 'http://mydomain.com/test.php', success : function(response){ console.log(response); }, error : function(XHR){ console.log(arguments); } }); I 've googled a lot of sites but there seems to be no solution for that!

  • jQuery Thickbox and Google Maps Extinfowindow

    - by cdonner
I am trying to place a link into an Extinfowindow that obtains its content through an Ajax call. So, I click on a push pin marker, up pops the Extinfowindow with my ThickBox link in it, and when I inspect the DOM for the entire page at that point, I can see the element correctly showing up with the "thickbox" class. The link looks like this <A class="thickbox" title="" href="http://localhost:1293/Popup.aspx? height=200&width=300&modal=true">Modal Popup</A> However, when I click on it, it does a full refresh and the target page loads in the browser, not in a popup. It seems that when the <A> for the Thickbox control is injected into the DOM after the initial load, jQuery is no longer able to do its magic and intercept the anchor link request. Does anybody have thoughts about how to do this better?

  • .NET Code Generataion | Unable to create a T4 template in Visual Studio 2008

    - by cedar715
    I've the Visual Studio 2008 installed on my machine(licensed one). When I try to add a new .tt(say bar.tt) file to the project, the following code is generated: I've seen in a screencast, where in an empty .tt file should be opened and the developer enters the T4 code. Even if I remove the code and enter T4 code, am getting build errors. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Drawing; using System.Linq; using System.Reflection; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace Foobar { partial class bar : Form { public bar() { InitializeComponent(); this.Text = String.Format("About {0} {0}", AssemblyTitle); this.labelProductName.Text = AssemblyProduct; this.labelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0} {0}", AssemblyVersion); this.labelCopyright.Text = AssemblyCopyright; this.labelCompanyName.Text = AssemblyCompany; this.textBoxDescription.Text = AssemblyDescription; } #region Assembly Attribute Accessors public string AssemblyTitle { get { object[] attributes = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(typeof(AssemblyTitleAttribute), false); if(attributes.Length > 0) { AssemblyTitleAttribute titleAttribute = (AssemblyTitleAttribute)attributes[0]; if(titleAttribute.Title != "") { return titleAttribute.Title; } } return System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().CodeBase); } } public string AssemblyVersion { get { return Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().Version.ToString(); } } public string AssemblyDescription { get { object[] attributes = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(typeof(AssemblyDescriptionAttribute), false); if (attributes.Length == 0) { return ""; } return ((AssemblyDescriptionAttribute)attributes[0]).Description; } } public string AssemblyProduct { get { object[] attributes = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(typeof(AssemblyProductAttribute), false); if (attributes.Length == 0) { return ""; } return ((AssemblyProductAttribute)attributes[0]).Product; } } public string AssemblyCopyright { get { object[] attributes = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(typeof(AssemblyCopyrightAttribute), false); if (attributes.Length == 0) { return ""; } return ((AssemblyCopyrightAttribute)attributes[0]).Copyright; } } public string AssemblyCompany { get { object[] attributes = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(typeof(AssemblyCompanyAttribute), false); if (attributes.Length == 0) { return ""; } return ((AssemblyCompanyAttribute)attributes[0]).Company; } } #endregion } } EDIT: I didn't download any T4 software separately as I got to know that it already ships with Visual Studio 2008.

  • Tracking Google Analytics events with server side request automation

    - by Esko
I'm currently in the process of programming an utility which generates GA tracking pixel (utm.gif) URL:s based on given parameters. For those of you who are wondering why I'm doing this on the server side, I need to do this server side since the context which I'm going to start tracking simply doesn't support JavaScript and as such ga.js is completely useless to me. I have managed to get it working otherwise quite nicely but I've hit a snag: I can't track events or custom variables because I have no idea how exactly the utme parameter's value should be structured to form a valid event or var type hit. GA's own documentation on this parameter isn't exactly that great, either. I've tried everything from Googling without finding anything (which I find ironic) to reverse engineering ga.js, unfortunately it's minified and quite unreadable because of that. The "mobile" version of GA didn't help either since officially GA mobile doesn't support events nor vars. To summarize, what is the format of the utme parameter for page hit types event and custom variable?

  • Should I use my ISP's DNS, or Google's 8.8.8.8?

    - by Torben Gundtofte-Bruun
It seems like a good idea to use Google's public DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 because it's really fast -- much faster than my own ISP's DNS! -- and probably more reliable, too. That seems like a ridiculously quick win for me, and much easier to remember. Assuming we're not all "tin foil hat" about Google, why shouldn't everybody use Google DNS? Note: I've seen this question, but I don't want a comparison to OpenDNS. This is about everyday use by everyday people in their homes. Update: I seem to have put my hand in a wasps' nest of privacy concerns. I appreciate the issue, but I was expecting a more technology-oriented discussion...

  • Cut and Paste Code Reuse - JavaScript and C#

    - by tyndall
What is the best tool(s) for tracking down "cut and paste reuse" of code in JavaScript and C#? I've inherited a really big project and the amount of code that is repeated throughout the app is 'epic'. I need some help getting handle on all the stuff that can be refactored to base classes, reusable js libs, etc... If it can plug into Visual Studio 2010, that would be an added bonus.
