• What is the meaning of this C++ Error std::length_error

  While running my program I get this Error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error' what(): basic_string::_S_create Abort trap I know that you can't do much without the code but I think that error is to deep in the code to copy all of it. Maybe I can figure it out if I understand what this error means. Is this a sign for an issue with reading or writing at the wrong memory address? Is there something I can do to get more information about the problem from my program?

• Cannot redeclare config() error in cakePHP

  Hi, I am getting the error Fatal error: Cannot redeclare config() (previously declared in.../basics.php:58, in live server. It works fine in my local server but when i uploaded the site to live server, i got the fatal error. I checked if the config() was declared multiple times but it's only declared once in basics.php file. The naming conventions are also followed, as it is working fine in local server. It only displays such error in live site. Please suggest solution for this. Help on this will be much appreciated.

• Suppress error with @ operator in PHP

  In your opinion, is it ever valid to use the @ operator to suppress an error/warning in PHP whereas you may be handling the error? If so, in what circumstances would you use this? Code examples are welcome. Edit: Note to repliers. I'm not looking to turn error reporting off, but, for example, common practice is to use @fopen($file); and then check afterwards... but you can get rid of the @ by doing if (file_exists($file)) { fopen($file); } else { die('File not found'); } or similar. I guess the question is - is there anywhere that @ HAS to be used to supress an error, that CANNOT be handled in any other manner?

• Windows Service Start-Up Error 1069

  Hello, I am installing a new windows service coded in C# on a server. I installed the service fine on the server, but once i manually start up the service on a server, with the same login credentials that our other services use, i get the fatal error message notification: "Could not start the %service name% on Local Computer. Error 1069: The Service did not start due to a logon failure." I looked in the event log and i got a 7038 and 7000 event id error in that order. 7038 event id message: "The %service name% service was unable to log on as %login% with the currently configured password due to the following error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. To ensure that the service is configured properly, use the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC)." 7000 event id message: "The %service name% service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not start due to a logon failure. " I have other services that are using the same exact login account and they work fine. Is there something simple I could be missing? Thanks

• Integrate SharePoint 2010 with Team Foundation Server 2010

  Our client is using a brand new shiny installation of SharePoint 2010, so we need to integrate our upgraded Team Foundation Server 2010 instance into it. In order to do that you need to run the Team Foundation Server 2010 install on the SharePoint 2010 server and choose to install only the “Extensions for SharePoint Products and Technologies”. We want out upgraded Team Project Collection to create any new portal in this SharePoint 2010 server farm. There a number of goodies above and beyond a solution file that requires the install, with the main one being the TFS2010 client API. These goodies allow proper integration with the creation and viewing of Work Items from SharePoint a new feature with TFS 2010. This works in both SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010 with the level of integration dependant on the version of SharePoint that you are running. There are three levels of integration with “SharePoint Services 3.0” or “SharePoint Foundation 2010” being the lowest. This level only offers reporting services framed integration for reporting along with Work Item Integration and document management. The highest is Microsoft Office SharePoint Services (MOSS) Enterprise with Excel Services integration providing some lovely dashboards. Figure: Dashboards take the guessing out of Project Planning and estimation. Plus writing these reports would be boring!   The Extensions that you need are on the same installation media as the main TFS install and the only difference is the options you pick during the install. Figure: Installing the TFS 2010 Extensions for SharePoint Products and Technologies onto SharePoint 2010   Annoyingly you may need to reboot a couple of times, but on this server the process was MUCH smother than on our internal server. I think this was mostly to do with this being a clean install. Once it is installed you need to run the configuration. This will add all of the Solution and Templates that are needed for SharePoint to work properly with TFS. Figure: This is where all the TFS 2010 goodies are added to your SharePoint 2010 server and the TFS 2010 object model is installed.   Figure: All done, you have everything installed, but you still need to configure it Now that we have the TFS 2010 SharePoint Extensions installed on our SharePoint 2010 server we need to configure them both so that they will talk happily to each other. Configuring the SharePoint 2010 Managed path for Team Foundation Server 2010 In order for TFS to automatically create your project portals you need a wildcard managed path setup. This is where TFS will create the portal during the creation of a new Team project. To find the managed paths page for any application you need to first select the “Managed web applications”  link from the SharePoint 2010 Central Administration screen. Figure: Find the “Manage web applications” link under the “Application Management” section. On you are there you will see that the “Managed Paths” are there, they are just greyed out and selecting one of the applications will enable it to be clicked. Figure: You need to select an application for the SharePoint 2010 ribbon to activate.   Figure: You need to select an application before you can get to the Managed Paths for that application. Now we need to add a managed path for TFS 2010 to create its portals under. I have gone for the obvious option of just calling the managed path “TFS02” as the TFS 2010 server is the second TFS server that the client has installed, TFS 2008 being the first. This links the location to the server name, and as you can’t have two projects of the same name in two separate project collections there is unlikely to be any conflicts. Figure: Add a “tfs02” wildcard inclusion path to your SharePoint site. Configure the Team Foundation Server 2010 connection to SharePoint 2010 In order to have you new TFS 2010 Server talk to and create sites in SharePoint 2010 you need to tell the TFS server where to put them. As this TFS 2010 server was installed in out-of-the-box mode it has a SharePoint Services 3.0 (the free one) server running on the same box. But we want to change that so we can use the external SharePoint 2010 instance. Just open the “Team Foundation Server Administration Console” and navigate to the “SharePoint Web Applications” section. Here you click “Add” and enter the details for the Managed path we just created. Figure: If you have special permissions on your SharePoint you may need to add accounts to the “Service Accounts” section.    Before we can se this new SharePoint 2010 instance to be the default for our upgraded Team Project Collection we need to configure SharePoint to take instructions from our TFS server. Configure SharePoint 2010 to connect to Team Foundation Server 2010 On your SharePoint 2010 server open the Team Foundation Server Administration Console and select the “Extensions for SharePoint Products and Technologies” node. Here we need to “grant access” for our TFS 2010 server to create sites. Click the “Grant access” link and  fill out the full URL to the  TFS server, for example http://servername.domain.com:8080/tfs, and if need be restrict the path that TFS sites can be created on. Remember that when the users create a new team project they can change the default and point it anywhere they like as long as it is an authorised SharePoint location. Figure: Grant access for your TFS 2010 server to create sites in SharePoint 2010 Now that we have an authorised location for our team project portals to be created we need to tell our Team Project Collection that this is where it should stick sites by default for any new Team Projects created. Configure the Team Foundation Server 2010 Team Project Collection to create new sites in SharePoint 2010 Back on out TFS 2010 server we need to setup the defaults for our upgraded Team Project Collection to the new SharePoint 2010 integration we have just set up. On the TFS 2010 server open up the “Team Foundation Server Administration Console” again and navigate to the “Team Project Collections” node. Once you are there you will see a list of all of your TPC’s and in our case we have a DefaultCollection as well as out named and Upgraded collection for TFS 2008. If you select the “SharePoint Site” tab we can see that it is not currently configured. Figure: Our new Upgrade TFS2008 Team Project Collection does not have SharePoint configured Select to “Edit Default Site Location” and select the new integration point that we just set up for SharePoint 2010. Once you have selected the “SharePoint Web Application” (the thing we just configured) then it will give you an example based on that configuration point and the name of the Team Project Collection that we are configuring. Figure: Set the default location for new Team Project Portals to be created for this Team Project Collection This is where the reason for configuring the Extensions on the SharePoint 2010 server before doing this last bit becomes apparent. TFS 2010 is going to create a site at our http://sharepointserver/tfs02/ location called http://sharepointserver/tfs02/[TeamProjectCollection], or whatever we had specified, and it would have had difficulty doing this if we had not given it permission first. Figure: If there is no Team Project Collection site at this location the TFS 2010 server is going to create one This will create a nice Team Project Collection parent site to contain the Portals for any new Team Projects that are created. It is with noting that it will not create portals for existing Team Projects as this process is run during the Team Project Creation wizard. Figure: Just a basic parent site to host all of your new Team Project Portals as sub sites   You will need to add all of the users that will be creating Team Projects to be Administrators of this site so that they will not get an error during the Project Creation Wizard. You may also want to customise this as a proper portal to your projects if you are going to be having lots of them, but it is really just a default placeholder so you have a top level site that you can backup and point at. You have now integrated SharePoint 2010 and team Foundation Server 2010! • Error 0x80300001 Installing Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit on FastTrak TX4660 RAID volume

  I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit on the following hardware: motherboard Intel DBS1200BTL Promise FastTrak TX4660 RAID controller 4 disks set up in two RAID1 arrays (handled by FastTrak) I am trying to install Windows so it would boot from RAID1 volume created with the FastTrak controller. The installation goes as in the manual, I insert the disk with the driver, select 'Browse' and specify the correct driver, it finds all the RAID arrays but notifies me that error 0x80300001 happened, Windows can't be installed on the mentioned RAID volumes, since they may not be bootable (even though the target RAID volume is the first in boot options list). If I proceed with the installation, Windows copies and unpacks itself, performs other standard actions after that. After the computer is restarted, it won't boot (Windows Boot Manager appears in the boot devices list; however, neither it nor the RAID volume itself does not boot). Is it a known problem? I can attach the boot disks to the motherboard and use its RAID capabilities instead, but I'd prefer FastTrak ones. Driver version is 1.3.0.4. Thanks.

• Dell printer goes offline after second print job.

  Dell printer goes offline(server connection) after second print job. Although the printer's display says it is ready. If you turn off then on the printer you can send one job and goes back offline(server connection) on the next print job. We have multiple Dell 2330dn printers installed through a print server, only one of the printers is experiencing this problem. Two different users. Two different machines. Two different operating systems (win7 and Vista). The computers have been reset. Dell printers have web interface if this helps (through IP address). Thanks for any help!

• Windows 2008 R2 SMB / CIFS Logging to diagnose Brother MFC Network Scanning

  I am attempting to setup network scanning on a brother MFC-9970CDW printer. According to the Brother documentation, the printer is setup to connect to any CIFS network share. I applied all of the appropriate setting in the printer however I get a "sending error" when I try to scan a document. When I look at the logs of the 2008 R2 server that I am attempting to connect to; I can see in the security log where the printer successfully authenticates, however nothing else is logged. I would assume that immediately after the authentication, the printer is making a CIFS request and some sort of error is occurring, however I can't seem to find any way to log this information to find out what is going on. Is it possible to get Windows 2008 to log SMB/CIFS traffic? • What is causing a vm to exhibit packet loss?

  We have a pretty nice piece of hardware set up to run multiple virtual machines in vmware and one of the vm's is an instance of Windows Server 2003 running SQL Server 2005. For some reason we occasionally see 10-20 seconds of straight packet loss to this machine from remote machines (my workstation) as well as other vm's on the same physical hardware. I am using PingPlotter to keep a close eye on the packet loss. So far we've turned off flow control on the NIC but we are already running out of other things to try. What might be causing this and how can I identify the problem? Note: We also have another server with a very similar configuration with the same type of problem to a lesser extent (because its not used as heavily?)

  Hello everybody We're just setting up a brand new Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop services. Everything is installed fine so far, we have set it up with 5 CALs per User (not Machine!) and they are activated and running. The problem / question here is: Is it possible to log in with the same user multiple times? This worked perfectly fine in Windows Server 2003 We just want it to start a new session on the server with the same user. Has anyone of you got experience in that? Thanks!

Previously, all ads management (tracking click and impression that each ads has served) and content were served in a single server with the following spec: Server 1 OS: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit CPU: Intel® Core™ i5 - 4 cores RAM: 8 GB Storage: 2 x 1 TB hard drives Bandwidth: 10 TB per month To improve our website speed, I decided to separate the ads management script to another dedicated server because we have more than 15 advertisers to 30 advertisers per each page. Server 2 OS: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit CPU: Intel® Core™ i5 - 4 cores RAM: 4 GB Storage: 2 x 300 GB hard drives Bandwidth: 10 TB per month The Problem The problem is that Server 1 can handle both content and ads system. Now, that I take away the ads system and put it at Server 2. Server 2 can barely serve only ads system. Test First of all, I moved 75% of the ads to Server 2. And then, perform a ping to server: ping -t xxxxx.   I'm posting this as a BIG CAVEAT to everyone. I know it's not a standard Q&A, but I think this is someone every Windows admin should know. There is a very real risk of falling into Big Troubles. Microsoft has recently released Windows Management Framework 3.0 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, which includes some nice things native to Windows Server 2012 (like PowerShell 3.0) and lots of improvements to WMI, WinRM and other management technologies. Windows Update is advertising it as an optional update. Should I install it on my servers?

• An efficient setup of several VPSs on one box?

  Hello all, I hope its ok to ask this question on serverfault, its not an actual fault but more of an implementation advice request. I would like to have a dedicated server that I can deploy my own VPSs on. These VPS will be various windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. I was thinking of buying a large Linux based dedicated server and then running VMWare Server or Virtualbox and adding my own images on there for each OS but I am thinking this isn't going to be cost effective and easy to maintain. I am hoping someone can help me with the perfect setup that is both cost effective and efficient so that I can have 6 VPS at my disposal that I can easily control. Thanks all for any help.

  I have the following configuration Router : IP: 200.208.88.17 (Internet) MASK: 255.255.255.40 Server 2003 : IP: 10.0.0.1 (with dhcp server ativated) dhcp scope: 10.0.0.11 - 10.0.0.254 MASK: 255.255.255.0 clients : IP: 10.0.0.11 - 10.0.0.254 MASK: 255.255.255.0 At this point I have all computer set-up in one switch. All clients are receiving ip´s from the dhcp server. I need to enable the internet in every client. I am not sure how to route the traffic from the clients to the router that is providing internet access. Could you please point me to the right direction?

• Trouble joining Windows Server 2008 to Domain

  When I try to join my new server to my existing domain I get the following error: "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resove DNS names in the target domain." I have tried all of the following already: Successfully pinged the domain controller. Ping the new server from the domain controller by IP address and by DNS name. Ping the DC server from the new server by IP address and by DNS name. Changed the network to DHCP (it was originally static). No joy as static or DHCP. Turned off all firewall settings. Added the domain name to 'hosts' file. Added the server name of the primary domain controller to the 'hosts' file in the new server. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help! Jim Update: With help from J. Brian Kelly (Thanks) I have managed to narrow down the problem to a DNS issue. Specifically, UDP/53 packets are being sent (they are seen in Network Monitor), but are not getting to the DNS server. But, I do not yet know why. Update: The quested output from IPCONFIG for the HyperV host and the virtual machine.
