• SharePoint Documents Library - Change "Document Created By" field

  Hello, I have a code that changes the username in various SharePoint lists, mostly by the "Author" column. It all works fine on normal lists, but it doesn't seem to work on the "Shared Documents" list which is a document library. Whether I change the username in "Created By" or "Document Created By", the change doesn't seem to take effect. The item.Update command doesn't throw any exception, but it clearly doesn't update the field(s). What can I do if I want to change this field through code? Thanks

  Over the last few years F# has evolved into one of Microsoft's fully supported languages employing many ideas incubated in OCaml, ML and Haskell. Over the last several years C# has extended it's general purpose features by introducing more and more functional language features: LINQ (list comprehension), Lamdas, Closures, Anonymous Delegates and more... Given C#'s adoption of these functional features and F#'s taxonomy as an impure functional language (it allows YOU to access framework libraries or change shared state when a function is called if you want to) there is a strong similarity between the two languages although each has it's own polar opposite primary emphasis. I'm interested in any successful models employing these two languages in your production polyglot programs and also the areas within production software (web apps, client apps, server apps) you have written in F# in the past year or so that you would previously have written in C#. • Manipulating source packages from Hackage how to easy deploy to several windowsboxes?

  Recently when I have found good sources packages for ghc 6.12/6.10 on Hackage I've been forced to do some minor or major changes to the cabal files to make those packages to work under windows. Besides to fork and merge my fixes with github, what seems to be the best way/ good enough practice to take these modified builds to a couple of other windows boxes that only has a basic haskell platform installed? I should prefer if I somehow could work with the cabal-install because that is what one normally use. Should one put the modfied build dirs on a shared/networked dir and mount from the targeted windows box? Say something like this: on machine prepare cabal fetch foo cabal unpack foo cd foo edit .cabal and .hs cabal configure cabal build On machine useanddevelopnormal cd machinepreparemount cd foo cabal install

• Injecting EntityManager Vs. EntityManagerFactory

  A long question, please bear with me. We are using Spring+JPA for a web application. My team is debating over injecting EntityManagerFactory in the GenericDAO(a DAO based on Generics something on the lines provided by APPFUSE, we do not use JpaDaosupport for some reason) over injecting an EntityManager. We are using "application managed persistence". The arguments against injecting a EntityManagerFactory is that its too heavy and so is not required, the EntityManager does what we need. Also, as Spring would create a new instance of a DAO for every web request(I doubt this) there are not going to be any concurrency issues as in the same EntityManager instance is shared by two threads. The argument for injecting EFM is that its a good practice over all its always good to have a handle to a factory. I am not sure which is the best approach, can someone please enlighten me? SB

Using php i am inserting or updating the mysql database with create date or modified date using the variables $datestring = "%Y:%m:%d %h:%i:%s"; $time = time(); $createdate= mdate($datestring, $time); In this $createdate will be the variable i use to insert or update the table. But its updating the wrong value. ITs not the server time or localtime. mostly its 30 mins delay with godaddy's server time. Pls help.

• MySQL Conventions?

  Hi There, I just moved my website to a new server (Shared to VPS) I expected errors, and the only error that is really puzzling me is this SQL statement. echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users_online_now") This returns nothing! And if I try the mysql_num_rows, it returns mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource.. If I query another table though eg: echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users") It works fine. I'm guessing it's something to do with the naming of the table? It worked fine on my previous host, is there some setting I should modify?

  Hi, I am building a web app in Silverlight which allows users to view and edit a database. In order to prevent multiple users from editing the same data, I was thinking of implementing a lock and key mechanism, so that other users are made to wait when one particular user is editing the data. Is there any way in which we can have variable(flag specifying if a user is editing data) in the server which can be shared across multiple clients? Is there a better way to manage this type of conurrent data access issues?

In my web site I query my Blogger account and get blog posts to display on my web site.   Read (skimmed enough to get coding) through Erlang Programming and Programming Erlang. One question, which is as simple as it sounds: If you have a process Pid1 on machine m1 and a billion million messages are sent to Pid1, are messages handled in parallel by that process (I get the impression no) and(answered below) is there any guarantee of order when processing messages? ie. Received in order sent? If so, how is clock skew handled in high traffic situations for ordering? Coming from the whole C/Thread pools/Shared State background ... I want to get this concrete. I understand distributing an application, but want to ensure the 'raw bones' are what I expect before building processes and distributing workload. Also, am I right in thinking the whole world is currently flicking through Erlang texts ;)

  I have a set of shared pointers: std::set<boost::shared_ptr<T>> set; And a pointer: T* p; I would like to efficiently remove the element of set equal to p, but I can't do this with any of the members of set, or any of the standard algorithms, since T* is a completely different type to boost::shared_ptr<T>. A few approaches I can think of are: somehow constructing a new shared_ptr from the pointer that won't take ownership of the pointed to memory (ideal solution, but I can't see how to do this) wrapping / re-implementing shared_ptr so that I can do the above just doing my own binary search over the set Help!

  I have a set of Java 5 source files with old-style Doclet tags, comments and annotations. And based on that I would like to write a generator for another set of Java classes. What is the best way to do that? And are there any good standalone libraries for code analysis/generation in Java? Any shared exprience in this field is appreciated. So, far I have found these: JaxME's Java Source Reflection - seems good, but it does not seem to support annotations. Also it had no release since 2006. Annogen - uses JDK's Doclet generator, which has some bugs under 1.5 JDK. Also it had no releases for a long time. Javaparser - seems good as well and pretty recent, but only supports Visitor pattern for a single class i.e. no query mechanism like in the 2 above packages.

• Best option for Google App Engine Datastore and external database?

  I need to get an App Engine app talking to and sharing data with an external database, The best option i can come up with is outputting the external database data to an xml file and then processing this in my app engine app and storing it inside the datastore, although the data being shared is sensitive data such as login details so outputting this to an xml file is not exactly a great idea, is it possible for the app engine app to directly query the database? or is there a secure option for using xml files? oh and im using python/django and the external database will be hosted on another domain

• Strategy for developing a multi function asp.net web application

  I'm about to start a new project and want some advice on how to implement. I need a web application which contains a booking module for reserving timeslots, and a time management module which will enable employees to clock in / clock out. If I am writing an update to the time managment module, I don't want to disrupt the booking engine availability by releasing a new solution containing both modules. to make things more difficult, there is some shared functionality like common users, roles and security. Here's a suggestion I've gotten, which sounds a bit cruddy, but may be functional. Write a 'container' web application which consists of basically a frame, and authentication / security features. This then has links which, will load the 2 independantly built and released web applications into the frame. I can see that say, if I wanted to update the time management module, I would only need to build and release this separately, and the rest of the solution would be 'untouched' Any better alternatives?

• Do I need to enable DRS to use Dynacache in Websphere Application Server Cluster

  We are running a websphere commerce application with several websphere application servers configured in a cluster. We are using dynacache, so each server in the cluster will have its own cached objects in its own JVM. We are using CACHEIVL with database triggers for all cache invalidations. I was reading http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/0603_crick/0603_crick.html and found an interesting sentence: "Furthermore, cache replication is necessary to ensure that invalidation messages are shared between the servers in a cluster." After thinking about this it would make sense that for the invalidation to work it would need to be triggered on all the servers in the cluster, but I couldn't find confirmation of this in the mountains of IBM doco. Does anyone know if you can use trigger based cache invalidation (through CACHEIVL) when you have several application servers clustered each with their own cache without DRS turned on? or do I need to use DRS for this to work?

So far I'm confident that a process is the representation of running (or suspended, but initiated) program with its own memory, program counter, registers, stack, etc (process control block). Processes can run threads which share memory, so that communication via shared memory is possible in contrast to processes which have to communicate via IPC. But what's the difference between tasks and process. I often read that they're interchangable and that the term task isn't used anymore. Is that really true?

• correct way to turn EAR module into OSGI bundle

  Greetings to all! There is a necessity to turn part of EAR (namely - war) into OSGI bundle and retain it's interoperability. Glassfish 3.0.1 already has osgi-web-container module and I succeeded to deploy standalone OSGI war. But in case of of ex-enterprise war it looks a bit difficult to me. What do I do with EJB calls from inside future OSGI war? Is it enough to replace @EJB injections with true JNDI lookups? What about APIs and libraries shared across EAR? I could split and rearrange them, but still I will have at least one jar needed by both EAR and OSGI war. Duplicate, make it as OSGI-bundle itself and make it available to ear somehow, place it GF domain's library path? Any other ideas, advices which could make that hybrid working?   I followed this article on making a table-per-type inheritance model for my entities, but I get the following error when I try to add an instance of a subclass to the database. Here is how I create the subtype: var cust = db.Users.CreateObject<Customer>(); // Customer inherits User db.Users.AddObject(cust); db.SaveChanges(); I get the following error when I make that last call: "A value shared across entities or associations is generated in more than one location. Check that mapping does not split an EntityKey to multiple store-generated columns." With the following inner exception: "An item with the same key has already been added." Any ideas on what I could be missing?

  Is there a built in linux utility that I can use to test a newly compiled shared library for external undefined references? Gcc seems to be intelligent enough to check for undefined symbols in my own binary, but if the symbol is a reference to another library gcc does not check at link time. Instead I only get the message when I try to link to my new library from another program. It seems a little silly to get undefined reference messages in a library when I am compiling a different project so I want to know if I can do a check on all references internal and external when I build the library not when I link to it. • Singelton on iPhone Simulator vs Singelton on real Device

  I am using a Singelton for some shared stuff. In the simulator, the app crashes ocasionally. Tracking the crash down shows that the the properties of my Singelton became dealocated. Those crashes never happend on a real device. Does the iPHone simulator handle memory managemend different? GC maybe? Changed the singelton to match this pattern. The iPhone Simulator dont crash now, but I am not sure about the memory handling on the real device. I assume that this solution will cause problems. What do you think?
