• Logging from symfony's model layer

  I'm currently working on a project with symfony 1.4 and Doctrine 1.2. I'm looking for a proper way to do logging from the model layer. In some model classes I use the record hook postSave() to create a ZIP file using exec() (since PHP zip doesn't provide for storage method 'Stored'). To be sure that everythings works fine I check the return code and log an error if something goes wrong. My first naive approach was to do it like this: if ($returnCode != 0) { sfContext::getInstance()->getLogger()->debug(...); } As you know, this doesn't work so well because sfContext belongs to the controller layer and shouldn't be used from the model layer. My next try was to use the model's constructor to pass in an sfLogger instance, but this doesn't work due to Doctrine 1.2 reserving the constructor for internal use (Doctrine 1.2 Documentation). I'm looking forward for your suggestions!

• allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' error when publishing from VS2010 (but only after a previous

  I can run my Asp.Net MVC 2 application without an issue on my local computer. Just Run / Debug. But if I have already built it, I can't publish it! I have to clean the solution and publish it again. I know this is not system critical, but it's really annoying. "One Click Publish" is not "Clean solution and then One click publish" The exact error is as follows: Error 11 It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. I suspect it's something to do with the Web.Config in the Views folder, but then why only after I build once previously. And just to note, the app works fine once published.

• Problems with testing in app purchases

  I am trying to test my application with in app purchases. I created features, test user, logged out from iTunes on the iPhone and used developer certificate. Load app from XCode in debug mode. When I click "Buy" button I pass all checks for internet availability, canMakePayments and call SKPayment *payment = [SKPayment paymentWithProductIdentifier:featureId]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addPayment:payment]; But all what I see is a pending view and after some minutes it failed in - (void) failedTransaction: (SKPaymentTransaction *)transaction { if (transaction.error.code != SKErrorPaymentCancelled) { NSLog(@"failedTransaction"); } [[MKStoreManager sharedManager] paymentCanceled]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] finishTransaction: transaction]; } Please advice in what direction I should go to figure out the problem and what else I should check. • SharePoint People editor control - UpdatePanel postback issue

  Hi I've a people editor control inside an update panel. During postback, I need to update the value of people editor control based on some selection. Though the value is getting updated, it is not being persisted on postback. I can see the value being updated when I debug. All other controls inside the update panel are working fine and their values are updated on postback. I have read blogs that we need to set the style attribute "display:block" on postback, but that's not working for me. Any suggestions highly appreciated. Thanks

I have a dll named AxInterop.Microsoft.Office.Interop.VisOcx and I refer it to instantiate an object of the type AxDrawingControl(). Now as soon as I write this code: AxDrawingControl objDrawControl=new AxDrawingControl(); and check the attributes of this object objDrawControl in the debug mode, I see this message: Exception of type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost+InvalidActiveXStateException' was thrown. • Access to module denied from within GAE dev server

  I am developing an app for GAE. Having installed the "feedparser" module with setuptools, I tried importing it (with "import feedparser") statement. However, the module does not load and when I look at the dev_appserver.py debug log on screen, I see the following: Access to module file denied: /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/feedparser-4.1-py2.6.egg/feedparser.py So GAE dev server cannot access the module but I can't figure out why. The path is correct and the file is accessible. I am fairly new to Python/Django/GAE - what am I missing?

• Is it possible to have a global exception hook?

  Hi, my code is fairly well covered with exception handling (try..except). Some exceptions are not expected to happen and some exceptions happen fairly often, which is expected and ok. Now I want to add some automated tests for this code. It would be good to know how many exceptions happened during execution, so I can later see if the expected number was raised or anything unexpected happened. I don't want to clutter every exception handling block with debug code, so my question is: Is there a way to install some kind of global exception handler which sits right before all other exception handling blocks? I am searching for a central place to log these exceptions. Thanks for any suggestions! (And if this matters: it is Delphi 2009)

• Ant ignores attempt to override the LANG environment variable

  We need to test a java build with the languages set to different values. I can manually (i.e. via export LANG=en_DK.UTF-8 and export LANG=en_DK) test that the unit tests run with the ant build script behaves differently, but I need to set the environment variable from ant. I have tried setting it using these methods (with the shell $LANG set to en_DK.UTF-8): using -D on the command line: ant -DLANG=en_DK using a build.properties file with the line LANG=en_DK in it using the following statements in the build.xml file (sorry for the formatting, I can't get SO to display it otherwise): : <property environment="ANTENV"/> <property name="ANTENV.LANG" value="en_DK"/> Using any of the three possibilities, and when run with -debug, ant reports that: Override ignored for property "LANG" What can I do to set the LANG environment variable from within ant?

Using cygwin after entering $perl -d sample.pl Loading DB routines from perl5db.pl version 1.3 Editor support available. Enter h or h h' for help, orperldoc perldebug' for more help. main::(sample2.pl:7): looper(); DB<1 It hangs at the DB<1 line. I cannot enter anything at the prompt. Is there a reason why this post is inappropriate? or how is this not clear?

• Headless gem: webkit_server: cannot connect to X server

  I've got some problems running capybara-webkit with the Headless gem, Xvfb and our ci server. We use this setup for automatic integration testing and javascript testing of our Ruby on Rails 3.2 app. During the tests it complains that webkit_server: cannot connect to X server But when I ps aux | grep Xvfb deploy 1602 0.0 0.1 61696 1912 pts/2 S+ Jul10 0:00 /usr/bin/Xvfb :99 -screen 0 1280x1024x24 -ac I see the Xvfb running. If I run the tests with --trace it also only shows the error log above and I can't debug the error. Any ideas how I could get some more information, or even a solution?

  Hello, I have a cmd command that needs to be executed, when the command starts it starts to fill a progressbar. When the cmd command is done the progressbar needs to fill up to 100. This is the code i use, but it gives me an error when the progressbar.Value = 100 comes up. VB gives me a suggestions about Cross Thread, but i don't know how i could make it work with this.

But, I usually test application using JUnit, So I init the basic configurator in setup method. after that, I test the application, and I can see the log. Because I deployed, the web in websphere. • Workling not running tasks in background

  Hi, I followed the railscast that describes how to get workling running background tasks, but can't get it working. The task runs, but not in the background (it's taking 5 secs before I'm redirected to admin_path). • What happens to an ActiveX control (COleControl) after the call to OnDestroy() ?

  I have an ActiveX control written in C++ that runs in Internet Explorer 8. Most of the time (approx 90%) when the tab or browser containing the control is closed, there is an access violation like this: The thread 'Win32 Thread' (0x1bf0) has exited with code 0 (0x0). Unhandled exception at 0x77b3b9fd in iexplore.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x65007408. The access violation occurs after the call to OnDestroy() but before the call to the control's destructor. The debug output says: No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed. None of my code is present in the stacktrace, although perhaps the heap was corrupted at some earlier point during execution. What lifecycle events does an ActiveX control receive between the call to OnDestroy() and the control's destructor?

• Web Service in c# - "This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace."

  I've created a web service using Visual Studio ( 2005 - I know I'm old school ) and it all compiles fine but when it opens I get warned thus: This web service does not conform to WS-I Basic Profile v1.1. And furthermore: This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace. Which would be fine except my service begins thus: [WebService(Namespace = "http://totally-not-default-uri.com/servicename")] Searching the entire solution folder for "tempuri" returns nothing. I can't find it mentioned in any configuration page acessible from Visual Studio. And yet it's right there in the wsdl:definitions list for the xmlns:tns attribute on the web service descriptor page when I view it through the browser and as targetNamespace in the same tag. I'm viewing it using Visual Studio's "debug" mode with the built in server from that. Seems like something has got cached somewhere but I can't work out what and where- I've tried stopping and restarting the server, cleaning and rebuilding the service and going through the associated text config files with a text editor but no dice. Any idea what is going on?

  Please forgive my noob-ness on this, but how do I package LAME.exe w/ a C# setup project? LAME and the compiled code reside in the same directory when installed. Help!

Any help will be appreciated.

  i'm using NyroModal, a 3rd party jQuery based dialog script. According to these settings, I should be able to do this: $.nyroModalManual({ type : 'ajax', url : '/url', 'ajax' : { url : '/url', data : 'somedata=1' } }); However I receive an error "$.ajax() is not defined". How could this be? p.s. If I run console.debug($.ajax()) right before the nyroModalManual part, it shows the XMLHTTPObject nicely, so I'm probably doing something wrong in the settings... I just need to be able to pass data.

• Addressing a memory leak stops my UI from showing iphone

  Hi I've being getting a memory leak warning with a UITabbarcontroller. If I release the tabbarcontroller the warning goes away but the tabbar will not show any content. • Can Log4net have multiple appenders write to the same file?

  I'm using a RollingFileAppender to log some info to a file with a conversionPattern (in the web.config) that looks like this for the header of each log section: <conversionPattern value="%date - %property{userId} - %property{method}%newline--------------------------------%newline%message%newline%newline"/> I'd like to log details under this header as bullet points. I'm currently trying to use another RollingFileAppender that logs to the same file with a simple conversionPattern of just a dash, like this: <conversionPattern value="- %message%newline"/> But these messages aren't making it into the log file. I'm using Log.Info() for the header and Log.Debug() for the bullet points and filtering each appender on their respective log levels. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Or is there a better way to get header and detail information into a log file from log4net?

I am thinking of creating a deamon that would: upon start rename /dev/tty.baseband to /dev/tty.baseband.old. create a raw node /dev/tty.baseband spawn two threads: Thread 1: reading /dev/tty.baseband.old writing into /dev/tty.baseband Thread 2: reading /dev/tty.baseband writing into /dev/tty.baseband.old This would work a little bit like a MITM process. I wonder if there is not a 'standard' way to do this.

  Hello, I'm trying to execute a shell command from a java application, on the GNU/Linux platform. The problem is that the script, that calls another java application, never ends, although it runs successfully from bash. I tried to debug it: (gdb) bt #0 0xb773d422 in __kernel_vsyscall () #1 0xb7709b5d in pthread_join (threadid=3063909232, thread_return=0xbf9cb678) at pthread_join.c:89 #2 0x0804dd78 in ContinueInNewThread () #3 0x080497f6 in main () I tried with: ProcessBuilder(); and Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd); Looks like it waits for something to finish.   I'm running into a problem where a Server 2003 SP2 box has started crashing roughly once an hour, BSODing out with the message that fltmgr.sys is probably the cause. I ran dumpchk.exe on the memory.dmp file, indicating the same thing. Any thoughts on typical root causes? • Is it possible to temporarily disable Python's string interpolation?

  I have a python logger set up, using python's logging module. I want to store the string I'm using with the logging Formatter object in a configuration file using the ConfigParser module. The format string is stored in a dictionary of settings in a separate file that handles the reading and writing of the config file. The problem I have is that python still tries to format the file and falls over when it reads all the logging-module-specific formatting flags. { "log_level":logging.debug, "log_name":"C:\\Temp\\logfile.log", "format_string": "%(asctime)s %(levelname)s: %(module)s, line %(lineno)d - %(message)s" } My question is simple: how can I disable the formatting functionality here while keeping it elsewhere. My initial reaction was copious use of the backslash to escape the various percent symbols, but that of course permanently breaks the formatting such that it wont work even when I need it to. Also, general pointers on good settings-file practices would be nice. This is the first time I've done anything significant with ConfigParser (or logging for that matter). Thanks in advance, Dominic
