  • IIS requesting certificates even though set to ignore

    I have a web site in IIS 6 with directory security set to Require secure channel (SSL) and Require 128-bit encryption. Also, the Client certificates setting is set to "Ignore client certificates". When I hit https://servername/resource in Internet Explorer and Chrome , I am prompted for a certificate. I can cancel the prompt, and the resource will load, but I don't want to see this prompt at all. I looked at the virtual directories and resources within the web site, and they all have the ignore client certificates setting on. Could there be another setting, perhaps in the metbase, that is overriding the web site's directory security settings?

    When I startup my computer, pages from my local webserver (IIS) won't load. In the event viewer(System log) I get the error below. The only way I get IIS to work again is to issue an iisreset.exe. I have Windows XP. Any ideas to fix this?     We have an IIS FTP site on a Windows Server 2003 x64 machine. Application Layer Gateway service is disabled (so http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931130 does not apply). Windows Firewall service is disabled as well. Connection timeout for the FTP site (there is only one) is set to 1,200 seconds = 20 minutes. An external client can connect to the site, list directory contents and download small files. When a client attempts to download a large file (eg, if the download continues for 3 minutes, which is still under 20 minutes, but relatively long), the server sends all data, then the connection times out, the client issues REST / RETR commands attempting to restart the download since after the last byte (which I believe should succeed and receive exactly 0 bytes), and the server behaves as if the client tried to restart after byte 0, that is, it sends the entire file all over. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • IIS 7.5 doesn't load static html pages

    There is an IIS 7.5 freshly installed on a dedicated server. ASP.NET 4.0 Web app copied to its folder, new website is created on its own IP on post 80, IIS_IUSR and IUSR accounts have read/execute rights on site's folder, the site is assigned to its own Integrated app pool with 4.0 .NET (I tried Classic pool with the same results). The problem: when I try to access this web site, browser only loads content generated by .NET resources such as aspx pages, .axd files, etc. Static images, static js, css and html files are in the page source but IIS doesn't serve them. Dev tools in all browsers complain that all those static resources have been sent by the server with wrong content type (plain text instead of image, styles, etc). What do I do wrong?

  • SSL certificate for ISAPI redirected Web Site

    I have a Win 2003 server and I'm using Ionics Isapi Rewrite Filter to redirect requests made to a Web Site configured in IIS to another Apache2 Server in a server not exposed to the Internet. The Web Site has its host headers configured to catch requests for the specific site, and the redirection is being done with the ProxyPass directive. This is working OK. So far the scenario, my question is: I'd like to add a server certificate to the Apache server, but I don´t know if I need to add the certificate to both Apache and IIS sites. I think I still don´t get the theory behind this and would like to know from someone with expertise in the field the right way to implement this. Thank you in advance.

  • IIS: redirect to a webpage if authentication fails

    We have an IIS site (MOSS 2007) that uses Windows Authentication. When a user that has forgotten their password tries to login the servers keeps sending 401 requests. This means on IE the user gets three prompts before IE displays a blank page, on Firefox the user is prompted over and over until they give up. We would like to change the behavior so if a user fails to login three times in a row we send them a redirect to a different site, instead of another 401 Forms authentication is not an option; the site has to remain on windows authentication to allow for SSO capabilities and certain sharepoint functions. Is there any way to tweak the IIS behavior to do this?

  • Should I start MCPD training now or wait for new exams?

    i apologize if this question has been asked before, or if this is the wrong place to put it. I'm beginning my study track for the MCPD certification in Web Development. However, Microsoft plans to retire this certification on July 31st of 2013, along with two of the necessary tests to receive the certification. On MS's site, I can't find a newer certification path to take - I imagine that Microsoft will release new certification paths and new tests for their new software, but I don't know when that will happen. I don't really know anything about Microsoft's process, as this is the first Microsoft certification I'll be studying for. The bottom line is this - I don't want to lose six months waiting for a new test to appear that won't expire, but I don't want to rush to get a certification that will be invalid in six months (or have to reset any progress due to new study material). To those with experience in affairs like this - what is the best course to take, and can I maximize the time I have now (not wait for new testing material)? Is there any way to find material for the new tests that Microsoft will be rolling out? Thank you for your patience. If this is the wrong place to put this question, I would like to request that it be moved to the correct StackExchange site instead of being closed. Thanks for your help!

  • IIS 7 - Application pools

    I made a CompanySite website in IIS - it's the only website on that server. I created .NET 4 Integrated pool for that website. I've installed ASP.Net site into CompanySite and it works fine. Now I'd like to install an application within this site. I create another .NET 4 application pool for that application. Then I install application into CompanySite using that application pool. As soon as setup starts off the website goes offline either with 503 or with The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. The only way to fix this (that I have found) is to uninstall that application and restart Windows Server, not just IIS server. Question is how can I install multiple applications within a single site? THank you

  • shut down FTP from IIS 6 after <X> failed login attempts

    Is there a setting in IIS 6 to turn an FTP site off after a specified number of failed login attempts? It has already been documented on this site that a Windows server sitting on a static IP address can record tens of thousands of failed login attempts a month. One server I maintain has had tens of thousands of attempts made against the FTP port. I have solid passwords in place, so I am not overly concerned. I rarely have to use the FTP, so for the most part I turn it on and off as I need it. Sometimes though I forget to turn it off when I am done, only to find the next day that my EventLog is full of audit failures. I would want to set a high number, in case I just messed up the password. Something like if 50 failed login attempts happen, just turn off the FTP site. Then if I need it later I can just start it again.

  • Configuring IIS site to use HTTPS

    I am working on a REST API which I have currently deployed on a Win XP Professional SP2 development machine running IIS 5.1. The site is currently being hosted on port 81 and being accessed via HTTP. I would now like to configure the site to stop using HTTP and use HTTPS only. I have developed a self-signed certificate using the SelfSSL.exe tool from the 6.0 Resource Kit Tools and set the Common Name to be the IP of my server (as it's a local development machine it has no domain name). I have also already configured the site to use SSL using the How To Set Up an HTTPS Service in IIS tutorial as my guide. However, whenever I try to access a resource in the API via HTTPS I get a 404. Any ideas?

  • Issues With IIS Hosting Two Domains From Same Folder

    I have two different domain names that resolve to the same ASP.Net site. Both domains are hosted on the same server, which runs Windows Server 2003 and IIS6. The sites are differentiated in IIS Manager using host headers. However, both of the sites point to the same folder on the local drive for the site's page files. I am occasionally experiencing an ASP.Net error that says "The state information is invalid for this page and might be corrupted." I'm the site developer so I've addressed all the relevant code-related causes for this issue. However, I was wondering whether having two domains/sites sharing the same folder for an ASP.Net application might be causing this intermittent error. Also, is this generally a bad practice? Should I make separate, duplicate folders for each of the domains? Seems like that can become a maintenance headache.

Then I tried to break the document into sections and now I am stuck with trying to figure out how to link and unlink sections. Is there a quick and easy to achieve this?   • Why is Excel 2010/2013 taking 10 seconds open any file?

    I have a fast Windows 7 PC with two SSDs and 16GB of RAM, so I'm used to programs loading very fast. But recently, for no reason I can figure out, Excel has started taking way too long to open Excel files (of any size--even blank files). This is occurring with Excel 2010 and with Excel 2013 after I upgraded, hoping to solve the problem. Here a couple scenarios: If I start Excel directly, it opens almost instantly. No problem there. If I start Excel directly, and then open any Excel file (.xls or .xlsx), it loads almost instantly. Still no problem BUT if I attempt to open any Excel file directly, with Excel not running, it consistently takes 10-11 seconds for Excel to start. I get no error messages, just a spinning cursor for 10-11 seconds, and then the file opens. During the delay while Excel is trying to start, I'm not really seeing any discernible spike in CPU or memory usage, other than explorer.exe. This problem is only occurring with Excel, not Word or any other program I'm aware of. I've searched around quite a bit on this question and found various others who have experienced it, but the solutions that worked for them are not working for me. For a few people it was a problem with scanning network drives, but my problem is purely with local files; I have no network drives, and the problem persists even with all network connections disabled. Some people suggested worksheets with corrupted formulas or links, but I'm experiencing this with ANY Excel file: even blank worksheets. Others thought it was a problem with add-ins, but I have all Excel add-ins disabled (as far as I can tell). One person solved it by disabling a "clipboard manager" process that was running in the background, but I don't have that. I've disabled as many startup and background processes as I can, but the problem persists. I've run malware scans, disk cleanup, CCleaner, and installed Excel 2013. I've deleted temporary files, enabled SuperFetch, and edited registry keys. Still can't get rid of the problem. Any ideas? My system details: Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit, Excel 2013 32-bit, 16GB RAM, all programs installed on SSD.

    I'm not entirely sure how to properly explain this, but here we go... I'm trying to create a single budgeting document that allows me to manage purchasing and reconciliation for multiple projects. I would like to create separate sheets per project and have purchased items populate on a master sheet. Using conditional formatting, I've set one of the columns to display an item's status (waiting for approval, approved, ordered, received). I would like the contents of an entire row to populate in a new sheet table once the status is set to "Received." The sheet should update descendingly. I can't attach an image because I don't have a 10 reputation.. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Section 2) Click 'Yes, Start Enforcing Protection' and optionally set a password. Now go to the unprotected section and in the Format menu options like 'Bullets and Numbering...' and 'Borders and Shading...' are greyed out. How can you protect a section without limiting the features that can be used in the unprotected section?

  • Issue with IIS...SERVER APPLICATION UNAVAILABLE

    My web application was running absolutely fine. Just 2 days back, I got an error saying. SERVER APPLICATION UNAVAILABLE I am pretty certain that nothing was changed on IIS. Unless my automatic Windows updates screwed it up completely. My event viewer had zillions of following errors in Application category. aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. The error code for the failure is C0000005. This error can be caused when the worker process account has insufficient rights to read the .NET Framework files. Please ensure that the .NET Framework is correctly installed and that the ACLs on the installation directory allow access to the configured account. I reinstalled IIS. After installing, i ran aspnet_regiis -i for framework v2 and now it throws error saying - The application could not be initialized properly. Any ideas what going on?

  • Outlook 2010, 2007 Sync problems after migration from SMTP to Exchange

    Our organization recently switched from an SMTP server to an Exchange server, since then several user's Outlook's are not synchronizing their emails as expected with the Exchange server. Our move over from an SMTP server to an Exchange server consisted of adding the new Exchange account alongside the existing SMTP account, drag-dropping/copy-pasting folders client-side from the SMTP account in the folder pane in outlook, to the newly created Exchange account. The problem happens when a user moves an email to a folder from their inbox or another folder. At this point the email disappears from Outlook client side. Re-syncing the folder, send/receive, closing/opening outlook and even system reboots do not make this email reappear. The Outlook web interface (OWA) reports the email is in fact in the folder they placed it in, and is not deleted. Doing a "search all mail items" for the emails shows that the email is still there; not deleted nor removed. To add to the confusion, when new folders are created and the email is placed in these folders, the synchronization happens without any issue both client side and server side. As the emails are appearing server side, we are confident to presume this is a client side issue. We have tried adding/removing accounts on one system which resulted in the same issue. This was a very long and slow process due to the sheer volume of emails (20gig+ from most users). We have tried reinstalling outlook restoring accounts from back-ups which has not resolved the issue. We also tried upgrading one system from outlook 2007 to outlook 2010 which, again, did not resolve the issue. We have experienced issues with a lot of emails disappearing during the copy-over process in which I'm not convinced it was the best route of migration, but nonetheless we are where we are. Can anyone suggest potential avenues of solutions to resolve this issue? Thank you.     Currently I have a setup with a virtual FTP site in IIS 7.5 that requires the following authentication details for the anonymous account: Host: ftp.mydomain.com User: ftp.mydomain.com|anonymous Pass: <none> I have multiple FTP accounts setup on this same server. I know that this means I need to specify the domain in the username to let IIS know what I need site to authenticate against, but is it possible to make the username only be anonymous? Would I have to create a user by that name in the windows users and groups area to be and specifically link it there?

  • Can I use excel to read barcodes and take me to a specific cell?

    I work for a community group that holds an annual fund raiser for charity over a weekend. I am an excel user and am wanting to set it up so that I can assign a barcode on a card to a specific person. My hope is to be able to scan the barcode have it take me to a specific cell in the spread sheet so I can update the Commitment amount. and provide as much anonymity for our donors as possible. Can this even be done?
